Visiting HeyShop Barcelona

Back in August, I was lucky enough to find myself visiting the HeyShop created by Barcelona based HeyStudio. Founded by Veronica Fuerte in 2007, HeyStudio is a small studio that takes huge inspiration from colour, pattern and imagery as communication. Part of their ethos is to be playful with graphics, which comes across within the HeyShop as a physical portfolio of HeyStudio’s history over the past 12 years.

As I hope to create a studio myself in future, as Stay Calm Studio (formulated by myself, Ruth Yeates, Kirsty McGill and Jess Hughes) grows, visiting a studio with more values than simply just design has inspired me to create a unique twist on where we as a team take Stay Calm. As the collective was formed over creating a zine focussing on mental health in creative industries, I feel that staying calm and spreading a positive message to clients and other creatives is an ethos I think we could really promote - especially through personal projects to the studio. The next steps for this would be to tackle the branding and from there perhaps create simple merchandise pushing our ethos.

Lo cierto es que cada red social se comporta de una manera diferente y por eso cada una tiene una frecuencia para postear.

La buena noticia 👌🏻 es que lo más probable es que no sea tan seguido como lo has escuchado 😮‍💨

Quizá aplique para cuentas que tiene muchísimos seguidores, pero no funciona igual para los negocios promedio que usan las redes social para hacer marketing.

Así como postear muy poco hará que tu audiencia se olvide de ti, postear demasiado los agobia y harás que dejen de seguirte. Lo mismo pasa con los correos masivos, pero eso ya seguro lo has experimentado ¿Cierto?

Birmingham Design Festival 2019 To boost my creative CV and network further, I volunteered throughout the entirety of Birmingham Design Festival. This allowed me to delve into new areas of the design industry and network with other creatives, both students and within the industry. It was a great experience to increase my design circle and gain more inspiration for future projects. During the few days of the festival, I was positioned at various locations to represent the festival including; the welcome desk, events doorman and to represent exhibitions happening as part of the festival. I got talking to many creatives and also attended incredible talks which widened my views on the design industry. Talks that really stood out to me included ones held by Veronica Fuerte from Hey Studio, Katherina Tudball from Superunion discussing the BBC Two Rebrand and David Wall from WorkGroup. Hey Studio inspired me about the importance of personal projects and how these can feed into paid projects in future, as clients can come across your work through personal projects. Additionally, I discovered a passion for the way in which HeyStudio runs, as a small team who create bright and positive design - with colour at the forefront of what they produce. From this talk, I decided to visit the HeyShop in the centre of Barcelona. https://heystudio.es/ Katherina Tudball from Superunion’s talk surrounding the BBC Two Rebrand showed me how experimentation is important towards reaching the final polished version. This experimentation helps refinements become perfection. https://www.superunion.com/ Finally, David Wall’s talk about the work at his Dublin-based studio WorkGroup heavily focussed on the important of delving deeper into the meaning and narrative behind a design - which makes pieces created stand out from competitors and even aid clients in feeling more involved at their own work place - which was the case with their Demonware project, spanning to redecorating the offices for the company beyond just a rebrand. http://workgroup.studio/
