as salem approached leon's apartment food in hand she wondered why she was feeling butterflies in her stomach. things had been rocky between the two of them for a while now and it seemed like every encounter they had since salem's arrival in valpo resulted in some sort of conflict. the least she could do was try to smooth things over and apologize. she knocked on the door three times before he answered and realized it probably would have been smart ahead of time to let him know she was coming over but out of habit she figured it would be fine. a smile came across her face as he opened the door. "Have you bought any grapes?" Issy asked, taking two singular grapes from the plastic cup she'd filled a couple of minutes earlier. After walking by countless vendors she couldn't pull the small delicacies out of her thoughts and bought herself a couple bags to take home. They sat in a cooler in the trunk of her car. "I'm thinking of making some of those sugar covered grapes like you see all over Tiktok." she popped some into her mouth, then extended a hand to offer him some. "Not the tanghulu," she said quickly, clarying as that would be too much trust on her cooking abilities. She'd more than likely burn the house down before the grapes made it onto the pan, "there's like one where you freeze them then cover it in granulated sugar and it's supposed to taste just like ice cream." Or so she'd heard.

growing up without friends ( and often picked on ) conditioned him to keep his expectations hellishly low when he knows there's a party coming up. one time he hand drew a unique invitation for every single person in his class and he still spent his birthday all alone, marathoning all of the scream movies because there was no one to play clue with and eating cake until he felt sick because otherwise his mom was just going to throw it out. leon sort of reminded him of the popular guy who ripped up his hand - drawn invitation right in front of drew and then threw the pieces in his face, so he was surprised when the musician agreed to come. it's not a birthday party, and he didn't get around to drawing any invitations so it was just verbal, but someone is coming to his party ! all determination to keep his expectations down there with the title character in jason goes to hell vanishes faster than charlie's girlfriends when he hears the doorbell. drew opens the door so impatiently that he almost falls over and only narrowly avoids crashing into leon's chest. "hi ! " he's rocking back and forth anyway, teetering with excitement. "you're the first person here which is really impressive because i have a roommate and i invited everyone i could think of besides my parents, my brother nolan, and rob zombie. do you want popcorn ? i made it on the stove, casey becker style," he offered, "oh ! and you get first pick of the seats for when we play clue." drew moves, creating enough space for leon to step inside his apartment by accident as he tries to offer a glimpse of the board game he's already meticulously set up in the living room.
