thinking crescentia thoughts … how she sits and talks to her owl for hours when she should be making friends with people, the loneliness of the road traveling as a silverstar, how she diverges from selûnite doctrine by refusing to hate shar and sharrans …
the depth of her love for mortalkind has made her so lonely. some days it hurts to get out of bed for the heaviness in her heart. she wants so badly for everyone to feel the love that she has been fortunate enough to feel; she wants everyone to have second, third, and fourth chances because people are innately good. people are good.
even when she gets robbed on her journeys or sees the worst of her fellow mortals, people are good; they’re just hurting.
as happy as her disposition is, i think the weight of her devotion to people is stifling and leaves her feeling incredibly empty and sad at times, from overextending her reach. she needs people in her life to remind her to be selfish and take care of her needs, otherwise she will run herself ragged.

Hi 👋🏽 ,how I saw that you are answering questions again, I wanted to ask, how do you think Arrow would have reacted when he found out that Amelia married Doppler? And what did Gray think?
Yes! I arise from the depths and always live questions!
I like to think Arrow would be supportive, especially if he somehow knew how Doppler came into his own following the mutiny.
Though I also think of Arrow were alive during that time, Doppler and Amelia wouldn't have gotten together. She would have relied on Arrow like she always had in the past if he were there. Doppler would prolly have had some growth, but nothing like what we saw since he would have deferred to Arrow as Amelia's primary help. They would have become friends, but prolly not had the experiences necessary to go past that. Especially alone time.
But anyway, I see Arrow being that kind of person who would support Amelia's choices but remain watching from afar. Just in case. Though it's not like he wouldn't think Amelia's couldn't kick the ass of anyone who broke her heart herself.
Also, how we have it, Amelia's previous love interest, Jane Porter, is also a passionate, bookish, soul. Obviously not exactly like Doppler, but enough for it not to be too surprising that Amelia falls for him like she did with Jane. So Arrow prolly wouldn't be entirely surprised that they got together.
Dr. Gray and Ko would likely be the same way, just prolly be more direct and maybe even greatly scrutinize him when they first meet him (we actually will likely explore this with our next planned fic). But just like with Arrow, they would be supportive of Amelia and trust her judgement. Buuuut also be ready in case she needs back up. They are ride or die.

Okay well not necessarily a headcanon and more a quick little deep dive into Elias, his transition, and his family’s opinions upon it because i cannot stop thinking about it. TW for transphobia, and child neglect (this section will also be under a read more!)
Tumblr media
So while not exactly out and about with it, as it is something Elias tends to keep it under wraps. The only people who openly know of his identity are his family as well...he had no choice there when it came to his home life. Elias passes well enough to be stealth to both public society and his fellow state alchemists and soldiers unless they are high up enough to have known through his medical examinations when first joining the military (or they’ve slept with him but Elias doesn’t often mix work with pleasure). However, outside of binding down his breasts, Elias hasn’t taken any steps in his transition. The rigorous vocal training he was put through as a kid helps him control and keep his voice pitch low though those with keen observation may notice he’s not speaking at his natural pitch. Its something someone with keen observation skills could pick up on if they’re around him enough however, especially given his voice can crack under the strain of constantly lowering his pitch.
Another reason why Elias tends to try and avoid people.  He feels much safer in his own home as the less people around to try and ask him questions the better.
Something Elias would want in the future is top surgery, however finding a surgeon willing to do it and do it safely has been difficult. He’s thought about attempting to use medical alchemy, but he knows very little of it but hopes to find a medical alchemist who might be able to help him with the task. If HRT was an available treatment, he would also be on that but given the time period I’m a little unsure if it would be.
As mentioned before, Elias/Apollo is out to his family, though their opinions are incredibly...mixed about it. Apollo is not exactly ousted given his talents and place within the Martin family, but its a little harder to say he is entirely accepted by them either when it comes to this. His gender identity for the most part is just treated like another family secret, an obvious elephant in the room that everyone ignores as to not disrupt dinner.
His mother Elvira, and brother Alois are rather accepting of his identity both having always wanted to support Elias/Apollo in any way that they can. Elvira was the first person Elias opened up to as a child, as Elias was very vocal of his identity as a child even as he lacked the understanding for it.
His older sister Babette doesn’t really care, and often doesn’t acknowledge that little fact in their family. His other older brother Nikolaus is the same, though he has been and still is hesitant in addressing Elias as his brother to other people. He instead opts to usually refer to Elias as his “sibling.”
His father Florian and his sister Crescentia are where opinions start to get more negative. His sister barely respects his identity, following her father’s leave of only doing so when its convenient or when they have guests. Otherwise she often insults Elias and gives the bare minimum of respect if only to stay out of trouble with their mother.
Florian says he “accepts” his son as he is, however only allowed Elias to transition under the condition he take his grandfather’s name “Apollo.” He also allowed it as he believed that if Elias was presenting as a man, it would help skyrocket his work to fame as its easier for a male composer to get recognition and fame. Though Florian’s acceptance is also entirely reliant on how compliant Elias/Apollo is being with his demands unless he is saving face in front of guests or the public. In private, however, he is not opposed to referring to Elias by his deadname and the wrong pronouns if Elias has managed to upset him enough.
It was something that killed a lot of early rebellious streaks Elias had he did not want to lose what his father had ingrained in him as a “lucky privilege.” Elias grew up with his father being this domineering force in his life, but thought himself lucky that he was at least willing to let him present how he pleased. Thus being willing to take on whatever task his father wanted him to with fear of the retributions of if he didn’t.
Elias, in regards to his identity, considers his first act of rebellion against his father not being the secret studies of history, science and alchemy he took on in his childhood, but the fact that after he left home and joined the state alchemists, he finally chose his own complete name.

So what happened all this time with Silver from the moment he first discovered the little socks during his long cargo trip to him finally returning home to Sarah? Does this all connect back to the last headcanon you wrote about him receiving the news of her expecting, and the recent story you wrote about Sarah learning of her pregnancy and what she did to prepare until Silver returned home?
-After Silver received the letter with the socks, he was honestly distracted for the remainder of the trip. All he could think about was getting home to his wife and Jim and waiting for the new addition. His chest was positively bursting with pride. The word had gotten out to the crew since Silver showed the socks to that one crew member, so they understood when he seemed stuck in his head and wasn’t as efficient as normal. The captain even personally congratulated the cyborg. They were happy for him.
- Of course Silver was super thrilled but he was nervous too. After all, he never had to take care of a baby before. Sure he knew a thing or two, but he had only parented Jim, and while a sometimes moody teenager had its difficulties, a baby was a whole other deal. Pretty soon his thoughts got the best of him, and he sheepishly asked the crew members who he knew were fathers for advice. They were more than happy to share some words of wisdom! He felt much more confident after confiding his worries to these guys, although learning that Sarah probably had morning sickness right now made him worry himself to death. What can he say? He’s a protective pap.
-Silver continued to write letters to Sarah, asking her for updates with her pregnancy and how she was feeling. In every letter he always made sure to tell her to take it easy. Sarah, in return, joked about how she was doing the most strenuous activities she could think of, just to tease Silver. Eventually it got to the point where he couldn’t tell if she was joking or not, and he quickly wrote back in a panic, telling her to take. It. Easy. Sarah and Jim were in hysterics at his responses.
-When they stopped at ports, Silver went and bought as much baby stuff as he could. He didn’t really even know what he was looking for, he just bought it all. He knew he probably overdid it, but he didn’t really care. It was his first little child, he HAD to be ready. Plus, he was just overwhelmed at how much stuff there was, but he got it anyways. (“How could a little pup NEED all t’is?”) Sarah would probably laugh at him if she could see him frantically running from store to store and buying up their entire baby stock. The people who helped him check out instantly knew he was a first-time father from the amount of stuff he bought. They did their best to keep their chuckles in.
-When Silver returned to Crescentia, he hauled all the stuff he bought off the ship, the little white socks tucked safety in his pocket, and practically sprinted to the space shuttles so he could get home quickly. He got some weird looks, and it took everything in him to refrain from excitedly telling them his wife was expecting. Silver was bursting with energy and excitement, he could barely stay still on the shuttle ride home. When he FINALLY got into the town, he ran past dozen of faces, and this time he didn’t stop himself from exclaiming the news about the baby. Most of the passersby smiled and nodded or congratulated him. They all knew about Sarah’s pregnancy because her inn was the best in town, they all went. And we all know Jim and B.E.N were not the type to keep their mouths shut when it came to such news.
-And of course, he finally made it home to the awaiting arms of his wife and son. After the embraces and the tour of the nursery and the revealing of the Ursid lullaby, Silver happily showed Sarah all the things he bought on his trip for the little cub. Sarah nearly suffocated trying to not burst out laughing because really, what he bought and the sheer amount he bought was ridiculous. But Silver was so pleased with himself that Sarah could only lovingly thank him. And also smack Jim on the head before he could make any cheeky remarks.
And there you have it, more Silver family fluff!

My copy of Jim’s Journal, the Treasure Planet junior novel just came in, and it’s FANTASTIC for a kids book. Here’s every other line some little key points that caught my attention for anyone curious. There’s a few canon movie contradictions in it, so whether you consider it canon or not is up for debate, but it’s basically a quarter inch thick essay on Treasure Planet details.
The dates on this thing make no sense. Jim gets the map on “02.0-106.00″ and gets home on “029.0-028.50″. I have no idea how high these numbers scale or the scope of it.
Jim is an AMAZING artist. (Here’s some of my favorite examples) He regularly draws very detailed pictures of moments in time, as well as scenery pictures that includes himself. New headcanon. It can be argued pretty seriously that Jim has an Eidetic memory, and GREAT visual memory, which makes sense with how well he picks up new skills with a little example.
Jim beats the best solar surfer on Montressor (Ray Quandree) in a race a bit before the movie
The little frog girl that eats the spoonful of Delbert’s food at the beginning of the movie is named Angela Legintoe, her species is called Loppytonians (in other media, they are Benbonians) and she tends to spill her Zirellian jellyworms on the table. Jim hates cleaning it up.
An entire two pages of solar surfing lingo
Jim has mixed feelings about his father. When an old spacer that used to work with the old man show up and tell stories, Jim is all about hearing them. He just doesn’t want to talk about the old man.
Jim accidentally breaks a whole tray of plates when exhausted and feels so bad about it he spends all night trying to glue them back together to make his mom feel better (MY HEART)
The Armada is repeatably referred to as “The Queen’s Armada”. Space has a queen.
The Solar surfing Galactic Grand Prix takes place on Crescentia.
Apparently Doppler studied “Modern spheroid cryptology” in his undergrad days and was totally stumped by the map
Jim’s mom gave him a huge list of stuff to pack, of which he only took “5 T-shirts”, “6 pairs underwear and socks”, and “toothbrush and toothpaste”
the most interesting things he crossed off on taking were “Royal Galactic Passport”, “System Health Services Immunization Form”, and “Solarium Crystals”
Doppler’s space suit is about 100 years out of style. (OH MY GOD)
For those of us who know nothing about boats, the Legacy is apparently a solar Galleon
Captain Amelia battled with the Procyan Armada
Jim was actually terrified during the fight with Scroop, to the point of shaking. Silver saving him was a huge deal for him.
Scroop is the Rigger in charge and was good friends with Oxy and Moron  (the torso and head tentacle guy). The other riggers are Greedy, Dogbreath (”Brush your teeth, my friend!”, and actual quote from Jim), and Birdbrain Mary. The ships gunner (the guy with huge thighs who shoots down the escape ship) is named Meltdown, and he’s also the mechanic. The Ropers are named Hands, Pigors, Aquanoggin, and Schwartzkopf.
Jim get’s etherium sickness when it gets a little rough (like seasickness), and regrets tossing the medicine his mother packed for him
Jim admires Amelia’s abilities as a captain.
Amelia once almost single-handedly saved seven ships during a battle, and was the youngest spacer to ever be made captain.
There was a Kattindog (HA oh my god, please tell me that’s her species name) Quasar War 15 years before the movie, and Amelia was awarded the Green Badge of Honor for her deeds
Silver tells bad pirate jokes to pass time.
Jim thinks They Are Hilarious. I am 100% serious, it’s the highlight of his day.
Jim’s duties include scrubbing the astrobarnicals from the keel, swabbing both decks, organizing the food stores, cleaning the crow’s nest, bathrooms, and oven, helping with food prep, refilling all water containers, checking all ropes and lines, and making one cafe lattoid for Captain Amelia each morning, delivered at 7am sharp
There’s a recipe for Bonzabeast Stew that Silver wrote down for him and he just taped it into the journal the dork. The recipe is full of sailing puns
you need one whole bonzabeast and it has to be defuzzed first.
make sure to include all 12 eyeballs for flavor
A bit of movie contradiction. The scene from “I’m still here” where Silver is showing Jim how to tie knots is different. Here, Silver took him up to the crows nest to surprise Jim. They watched a close by planet (Saxonite, which has huge rings) pass by, and Silver teaches him knots to pass the time. Jim was SUPER into it and it takes up like SIX WHOLE pages of this 50 page thing
Silver teaches Jim an old spacer song. It’s really morbid
Jim suspected that Amelia and Doppler had a thing for each other before Arrow even died.
Jim's not only betrayed by Silver’s mutiny. He’s positive Silver knew about Jim’s connection to the map and was using him all along
Jim’s thought processed about Silver after the mutiny is HEARTBREAKING
Like a good section of this book is Jim zigzagging between beating himself up over being fooled and being mad at Silver and it hurts
Jim’s reasoning for not going with Silver is “If there’s one thing I learned from that bucket of bolts, it’s that I have to chart my own course” and now i’m crying
Another canon contradiction, Amelia doesn’t tell him about her recommendation to the Astro Academy until after they land.
Amelia’s wounds were bad enough that she had to go to the hospital overnight
Jim. Is. A. Sap.
Seriously “It never would have happened if it weren’t for that old pirate who helped me find the real treasure - the one inside of myself!”
Amelia graduated from the academy in 005

EtheriumAU stuffs for metal husband Tech:
Tech, at some point, broke his ionblade--quite possibly during the fight with Gilded. He had the working part recut into a smaller (”smaller”) blade akin to a long Bowie knife. It’s a very nasty blade that delivers quite a shock, and most end up dropping their weapon if it crosses his blade. It takes especially fortitudinous fighters to not drop their weapon. Or someone wearing a rubber glove.
Tech has no idea the rando merchant he stole cargo from and almost ruined is Gilded Valor, or that his new friend is Gilded’s daughter.
Tech’s visited nearly every bar and tavern in Montressor, Crescentia, and a few neighboring planets. One of his favorites is Caraway’s tavern on planetside; she owns the tavern with her daughter, Neon.
Tech visits Lilyfeather’s flower stand every single time he’s walking through the pier where she hawks her flowers. He buys dandyleos for his hat. This is likely where he met Quark, aiding in his escape from a certain young leonine Felid who was dead-set on catching the living laserpoint.
After getting caught by WARD, Tech asked politely if, in exchange for getting to talk to the crew, he could wait locked up in the brig. He spent most of the time smoking and walking around and making annoying noises.
Speaking of flowers, Tech has been thinking about buying a bundle for Miss Caraway for ages...
Tech’s old crew is probably still alive, and have no idea what happened to their old captain--or what he’s currently doing...
Headcanon: Merriweather quite possibly knows who Tech used to be--being a former Navy herself. Merriweather also knows he pays his tabs, pays for food for folks down on their luck, doesn’t start fights, and her son is fascinated with him.

I am unsure if you guys are still answering questions, but thought I would try! I've always been curious of what the character's heights in your stories are. I know Arrow is fairly tall with Amelia being shorter than him and Delbert, but just what you guys thought them to be for them and ko, gray, Aurora? P.S. your stories are amazing, for you both, I've read them multiple times!
Sorry it has been ages since I’ve been active on this blog and am only just now getting to this!
To answer your question, we thought far more about the heights of canon characters than we have for our own! After discussion, our relative heights are as follows:
Ko < Aurora < Amelia < Doppler < Gray < Arrow
Ko, Aurora, and Amelia are all close in height and then Gray is only a couple of inches taller than Doppler, but this is mostly due to her species. She would be shorter than the average male of her kind.
The heights of everyone are as follows (please refer to this post as to how we came up with the heights for the canon characters)
Ko - 5′1″ (1.55m)
Aurora - 5′2″ (1.57m)
Amelia - 5′3″ (1.59m)
Doppler - 5′7″ (1.70m)
Gray - 5′8″ (1.73m)
Arrow - 6′6″ (1.84m)
Oh and bonus fact: As Firefall noted in our conversation, Ko started off as taller before he developed her and she got shorter the more he wrote about her!

Forgive me for asking but ... I've always been curious about the age of the characters appearing in the stories on Sector Crescentia
That’s actually a bit difficult to answer since our stories pretty much span Amelia’s entire career and beyond. However, I CAN tell you their relative ages. For reference, I’ll give you their ages that we decided they have during the events of Treasure Planet. They are actually pretty young considering how accomplished they are, but it is canonical that everyone is like… basically geniuses in their respective areas.
From oldest to youngest:
Dr. Eleanor Gray - 36
Dr. Delbert Doppler - 33
Charlotte Ko - 32
Amelia - 30
Aurora Mayflower - 26

Character Voices
So we decided to figure out what our OCs actually sound like. Or actually I did. Mostly because I instantly have a voice for a supporting character from only one work and I wanted to share, but it felt weird to do just that one on its own. And so, this list.
It was actually harder than I thought because trying to find a video that has the voice juuuust right has been frustrating. Seeing as we have a huge list of OCs, we chose the ones who are more important/recurring aaaaaand also a few who aren’t that I actually instantly have their voice in mind. I have not listed Dr. Gray as she does not vocalize.
For convenience’s sake, I’ve linked videos to the correct time stamp to be about a second before they start talking (though most begin talking immediately actually). Even then, I will also note which character and/or performer is the vocal inspiration and some notes about that choice.
Aurora Mayflower - Her characters in the Battle at Procyon game (Aurora and Mayflower we’ve combined into one person) have very short lines. I haven’t actually played the game (but I have watched play throughs). All the felinids are voiced by Jackie Brambles in this game so that makes things simpler for us.
Charlotte Ko - Ko actually took the longest to pin down. We wanted something to reflect her lower-class upbringing without using a stereotypical Cockney accent. Due to the poor treatment of the Irish during the time period that Treasure Planet is based on, it seemed like a good choice. We went with Michelle Fairley, specifically as Sharon from Flea Bites, because we really liked her vocal quality though it took some digging to find a performance that I could link to on Youtube where she really uses her native accent!
Captain Sir Edmund Forsythe -  He is heavily inspired by Michael Byrne as Captain Keene from Hornblower. I personally haven’t seen it so I can’t directly comment on that, but it’s something Firefall mentioned to me more than once so it’s prolly something I should look into soon. His voice is elderly yet authoritative.
Lord William Bonner - Markiplier as the Colonel from Who Killed Markiplier? I legitimately tried to find a source for that vocal archetype (since I’m dead sure that it is one) but none seemed to fit besides this one so there we go then.
Nasisa - Heather Headley as Aida from the musical of the same name. I will unashamedly admit that she is the reason I made this list. I didn’t have a handle on her characterization until I was listening to the Aida soundtrack and it really shows. And because I can’t help myself, here’s another clip of her performance, this one live.
Chaupi - Jason Raize as Simba from the original Broadway cast of The Lion King. It took me a long time to figure out his voice since it wasn’t ever clear in my own mind. But since I wanted one that could work well against Nasisa’s voice, I looked at different shows that had a similar audio feel and I stumbled upon The Lion King. I wasn’t sold on Raize at first but as luck would have it, it turns out that Headley originated Nala in this show. I found a clip (sorry for poor quality) of Simba and Nala reuniting and it seems like original cast. It sold it for me, especially because there are certainly some parallels between both reuniting scenes and the two have great chemistry.

What was the initial plan for characters from the story of Sector Crescentia?
I may have to ask for a clarification as I’m not entirely sure what you mean by this.
I wouldn’t so much say that Sector Crescentia is a planned story in any real sense. It’s more of a version of the Treasure Planet Universe where Firefall and I have our headcanons. Basically it started out where we each had our own ideas and over time those ideas began to overlap more and more until they may as well have been a shared universe. Over the last six years that has meant including each other’s OCs in each other’s stories and then even writing short stories of just them (Gray and Ko) and developing them jointly. This blog actually came about as a way to pool all of our works in one place, both the ones we’ve published on FF.net and AO3, but also never-before published stories that we felt didn’t quite belong in either place as canon characters were nowhere to be found.
In that way, it’s really hard to think of original plans for individual characters. (I think this is what your question really means?) I can only truly speak about Gray since I came up with her and there have been a LOT of things I’ve changed about her over time, but honestly my initial plan for her was “wait, why is there no character with medical training running around??” and the rest was history.
Prominent deleted character traits include (no particular order)
Losing a leg (I think this is actually still present in Supernova). I had been watching a lot of House at that time, sue me.
Mute but not deaf. This was the most recent change as I became increasingly uncomfortable with the fact that I chose a condition that basically only ever existed in fiction and was something that was easily debilitating for sympathy points without having to actually impact much. As this was the most recent change, you’ll still see a lot of references to this effect. We’ve retconned her to have hearing aids which I’m pleased to say are period-acceptable even in normal Victorian Era setting, let alone one where cybernetic enhancements are the norm.
Something that I actually almost wrote down here but I’m so embarrassed about that I have deleted all traces of it in all of my files and emails (I never delete my emails so that’s huge for me) but Firefall will know EXACTLY what I mean. It’s not angsty in any way, it was just AWFUL. The only good thing to come out of it was backstory about Gray’s older brother, Victor. I’m only even mentioning it here because it was an idea that will haunt me for the rest of my days. If Gray came to life and she tracked me down, even entertaining this idea would be her reason for my murder.

Personal EtheriumAU headcanons: -For those who live in Crescentia, the upper-class live on the tip of the upper crescent. The seat of government is in the two largest buildings, cradled in the center of the crescent. -Catnipbis is a mix of tobacco and weed basically. It is usually called Nip and is most popular with Felinids as it originated on their homeplanet, but not uncommon among spacers. -There's many a seedy tavern in Crescentia, but the seediest are actually located on the underside of the port. For the most part gravity is set in a single direction (meaning if you step off the edge of the pier you will fall into the Etherium), but clever spacers looking to avoid the eye of the law have set points where, if you know where to step, you can step off of the edge and walk on the underside of the port. Smugglers are fond of making use of these spots, often hidden in shadow due to the orbit of Montressor and Crescentia. It is quite literally the dark underbelly of the port.

More headcanons/thoughts:
Tech’s circuitry, while just fine on a day-to-day basis and some more complicated computing sporadically throughout the day, if pushed too hard, will start to overheat, like a laptop in your lap. Especially complicated ships or hard-to-crack software that takes too long for him to get through runs the risk of his circuits potentially heating up to the point of being painful.
The earpiece, circuitry, and spectacles can get uncomfortable after a long day. Taking them off and turning off the circuitry leaves him quite vulnerable though, being half-deaf, mostly blind, so places he can do this are far and few between.
Felids enjoy vertical hierarchies. The master of the house has the highest room, the one at the top of the pecking order has the chair with the highest seat, most prefer a second-story room to a ground floor room. This can even extend to where a Felid will choose to hang around a room--taking a seat on a high counter, instead of the lower chair. (Felids in Crescentia, especially, try to get homes on the “upper” tip of the crescent.)
Grooming is important to Felids. Both as a social activity and as a form of intimacy. This can be brushing each other’s hair, but can extend to mothers licking their kids. A long lick up the back of the head is about the equivalent of “oh love, you have something on your cheek, hold still...”
