Lost Tomb Lewks, Part 4

Warning: vague Spoilers for Season 1 of The Lost Tomb Reboot

Look 17 is this gorgeous knife.

I’m not a “knives are sexy” person, or I should say, I never WAS a “knives are sexy” person before.

I do have a strong affection for my Alaskan ulu kitchen knife, which is a godsend for anyone who is arthritic (me) or who is an upper-limb amputee (my family member) or is hemiplegic (different family member), but that’s as much attention as I’ve ever paid to a knife.

Until now:

Ahem.

This is a kukri, a traditional knife of the Gurkha people in Nepal and India. It’s similar to a machete but it has a downward-curving blade, which means you can slash downward forcefully without bending your wrist. It’s excellent for cracking crustacean shells heavy chopping, as well as combat. Wikipedia doesn’t know why there are notches near the base of the blade but sure does have some theories.

The handle looks to be a mix of metal and ivory. Hopefully antique ivory, or ivory from a properly-compensated voluntary donor. [That is a joke, the ivory trade is bad, don’t kill elephants, etc.] The case is topstitched leather with snaps to keep the knife from escaping. Did OP just spend an hour learning too much about knives? She did. Does this mean she’s going to also make an effort to learn something about watches, a critically overlooked area of her menswear commentary? It does not.

Look 18 is a classic explorer’s rig that looks like it came out of the Banana Republic catalog back in 1987 when the name “Banana Republic” still kind of suited the clothes sold there. (Google it and be startled) This look features dark brown trousers that are comfortably loose but still well-fitted and flattering. The shirt is two warm tans--a dark one for most parts, and a lighter one through the chest and inner arms. This gives it a nice depth and keeps it from looking bland. This outfit also features Wu Xie’s watch, which...is round? and tells time.

This look features the first of many, many, many times that a character will shine a flashlight directly into the camera. Which makes it painful to watch the show on my tablet in the dark when my bedmate is asleep. Knock it off, characters!

Side Note: Wu Xie’s room has some good features. He’s got a giant bulletin board holding framed photos of all the adventures in which he was played by a different actor. This makes it easy to move his photo collection when his uncle decides to be a dick about the rent.

Wu Xie’s bed is big and comfy-looking, with a variety of patterns and textures; appropriate for a person who’s planning on dying, or having an increasingly complicated love life, or both. This bed has room for a 100-year-old boyfriend, a 20-year-old girlfriend, and a thousand-year-old crustacean-brained princess, as long as everyone’s friendly.

It also has a padded headboard, which is so important when you are dating a paper-mache person with a fragile head. This padded headboard also has curved head/neck support things that look just the right size for a person to grab onto with both hands and hold on for dear life. It looks antique, which means Wu Xie bought it for the aesthetic value and definitely not for fucking, right? Definitely not. For fucking.

Wu Xie tops off Look 18 with the handsome swamp green coat from their recent tomb adventure, now completely unmuddy thanks to the world’s greatest dry cleaner, and with a strappy, practical backpack.

This warm-toned outfit and the buttery colors of the room are perfect for having an intimate, deeply truthful conversation...

....in which you gently crush your dear one’s heart into powder.

Look 19 is Xiao Ge’s blue hoodie and black pants combo, which we finally get to see in the full light of day.

The hood is good for hiding in when you want to cry.

This hoodie looks black in low light, but is actually navy blue with black piping, placket, and zipper.

The ensemble features black trousers with an eye-catching vertical silver-toned zipper on the front pockets. Black boots and black tactical gloves round out the look.

Side note: each of the Iron Triangle guys has his own backpack style. Wu Xie’s is an olive green expedition pack. Pangzi’s is two-tone canvas and leather.

Xiao Ge’s is black tech fabric, and features a chest strap to keep it from shifting around when he is kicking asses. The black straps coordinates well with the black piping on his hoodie.

This outfit is a good one to wear while you exchange tender gazes of pure unconditional love with the guy who is crushing your heart into powder.

I don’t need to look at Pangzi I know what Pangzi looks like and anyway I glanced at him already today.

Did OP slow these gifs way down purely to keep from giving anybody eye strain? She did. OP is considerate of your eyes. Speaking of eyes, awww. Xiao Ge sure is bros with Wu Xie, you guys.

Look 20: Liu Sang! Liu Sang! Liu Sang!

Actor Liu Chang, a man who can wear literally anything and make it look fucking amazing, makes his entry onto the scene in a good, but understated, suit.

Most of the suit is a charcoal grey, but it has a single light grey lapel and pocket flap, to keep things interesting. He’s wearing it with black Oxford shoes that have a small red, white, & blue tab poking out the back. So he’s dressed conservatively, but with a bit of flair.

He’s accessorized the look with perfectly fine, but not very interesting, black wirefame glasses that he’ll replace with cooler ones after some time underground. He’s got a cartilage piercing in his left ear with a flat black oblong earring. Because of his extreme hearing, he’s wearing noise-cancelling earphones.

This look says, “normalize the use of adaptive tech.” These are probably - in real life - not as effective as the larger over-ear headphones a lot of noise-sensitive people use, but their sleekness and elegance match the rest of Liu Sang’s accessories and clothing.

Because of his noise sensitivity, Liu Sang pukes as soon as he gets out into the crowded street. He vomits neatly into a drain, however, in the way of someone who’s used to managing this symptom and isn’t going to let it spoil his outfit. We stan a neuroatypical king.

What Does a Gamer Look Like? Video games entered mainstream culture decades ago, but these days, gamers are more like celebrities, with millions of fans online. That means, among other things, that the days of gamers wearing jorts and oversize T-shirts are long past. Esports athletes and streamers alike now dress with urban panache mixed with opulent sensibilities. The result is a mix of luxury brand worship, Korean streetwear, video game fantasy and Japanese “kawaii” culture. Major brands have taken notice. Tyler Blevins, the mega-popular video game streamer known as Ninja, signed a deal with Adidas and released a limited edition run of “night joggers,” which sold out almost immediately. Gucci partnered with the London esports team Fnatic on a $1,600 dive watch. Louis Vuitton teamed up with League of Legends, the most popular esport in the world, for a limited run of capsules and shirts. And the designer Jeff Staple, often credited with kick-starting the collectible sneaker revolution, worked with the Overwatch League on a line of jerseys. “I feel that while streetwear was rising, gaming culture was also rising,” Mr. Staple said. “In 2018, when Overwatch League first reached out, that’s when the paths started to cross.” Gaming accessories too are style. Players can be seen wearing large headphones with keyboards sticking out of their backpacks. HyperX creates a popular line of gaming headsets. Its ambassadors include the singer Post Malone, JuJu Smith-Schuster of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Daigo Umehara, the Street Fighter champ. For their fans, players display a wide array of styles, from a team-branded hoodie to a camo jacket to Pokémon cosplay. We spoke to three players about how they think about their appearance: an influencer, a pro gamer and an amateur gamer. Imane Anys The 24-year-old Twitch streamer known as Pokimane has more than 7 million followers on the platform. Her style mixes comfort, cute spectacle and streetwear. I see many streamers and esports athletes dying their hair in nonnatural colors. Why? Whether it’s your hair or accessories, it really becomes part of your branding and, in essence, iconic to who you are. So for example Ninja: It’s the blue hair. For me, it’s become kind of curly wavy brown hair and wearing a headset, almost all the time. In regard to accessories, what do you like to wear while you stream? It’s more about what kind of accessories you don’t want to wear. For example, I found that I don’t usually wear earrings or bracelets much because earrings really get in the way of your headset and it can kind of hurt. And bracelets get in the way of your armrest on your gaming chair. Streetwear is especially popular in gaming and esports circles. Why? It’s still something that you feel comfortable in. You can dress it sort of up or sort of down. That aspect of comfort is really important when you’re sitting down for six plus hours on your PC chair. What streetwear brands are you wearing right now? I love Prix. I’ve always really enjoyed some nice athleisure — if you would consider an Adidas or Nike a kind of streetwear. And one of my all-time favorite stores is called Maniere De Voir. Is there pressure for women who stream to want to look cute, and does that come at odds with comfort? I think because no brands are specifically targeting that — clothing that’s comfortable to sit in or walk around in — athleisure seems to be what everybody defaults to because there isn’t another option. Adidas, Nike and especially Lululemon. With Twitch having a largely male audience, is there more demand to wear sexier outfits? Does that clash with your more modest look and how do you navigate that? I think there’s a desire for both, to be honest. There are people that will ask you to wear more revealing clothing, but then if you decide to, there are people that will comment rude things. I found that it’s best to just do what you want and what makes you comfortable. How has the pandemic affected your style? Initially, quarantine didn’t impact my style too much since I’ve always worked from home. However, I’ve recently started reaching for the pieces I’d usually save for special outings, and wearing them at home just to spice things up and put them to use until it’s safe to go out again. Thomas Paparatto Known as ZooMaa, he is a professional Call of Duty League player for the New York Subliners, part of the Andbox esports organization, which houses a clothing design arm. Earlier this month, he announced that he would be stepping back from competition due to ongoing wrist pain, though he will continue to stream. What are you wearing here? I wore a part of my collection, which is the hoodie, and I just put on a pair of jeans and some white shoes to go with it. I’m a very simple guy when it comes to clothes. What was your goal with this collection? I just wanted something that looks good that anybody can wear out in the open, no matter what the age is. I wanted something that people can wear to school that doesn’t scream “gamer.” What do you mean by “scream ‘gamer’”? Like a team name maybe. Or like a bunch of sponsored jerseys, stuff like that. I wanted something more, like everyday wear that people can wear to work or wear to school or wear around the office. Is there anything wrong with clothing that screams “gamer”? Absolutely not. It’s just, for me, not everybody knows much about gaming, so I just think having something that’s more versatile that anybody can wear would be really cool. But obviously I’m a gamer, so having a little bit of gaming twist to it. What things are integrated into clothing for gaming purposes? Hand warmers are a big thing. So having a nice hoodie pocket or having nice pockets like that can keep your hands warm in between matches. And why are hand warmers important? The venues are always really cold. So having hand warmers on deck, just holding between matches keeps your hands nice and warm and loose. You have a custom PlayStation 4 controller made by Scuf Gaming. Explain the importance of having a custom controller. It’s a comfort thing. They do little things that help your game. They give you a really good grip on controllers. The smart triggers and smart bumpers, which I think is like the most important thing. They’re just more responsive than a regular controller. You grew up in Cranford, N.J., and now you represent the New York Subliners. How important is your image? It’s pretty important to me. I always want to rep the team that I play for just because I’m proud of it. Have you changed your look in the pandemic? Not really, just like to change styles depending on what’s hot and what season it is. Nathan Truong The 20-year-old gamer and upcoming Twitch streamer out of San Jose, Calif., goes by Nate. Explain your get-up with the camo jacket. I decided to pick up that jacket simply because it’s something a little bit different but not too flashy. I tend to not wear a ton of print varieties of colors, but I think camouflage is something that’s not really worn too much anymore. And what are these necklaces? One, a skull, and the other one is a pendant of a lion. They add a little bit of flair to whatever you’re wearing and it does add a sense of personality to your outfit. I think one of them in specific looks like an esports team logo, Houston Outlaws. And then the rest of your ensemble? So starting with the shoes, I’m wearing the Adidas Yeezy Boost Pirate Black. I think they stand out. Fairly simple because they’re all black, as well as the Levi’s 501 original fit men’s jeans. You’re wearing HyperX headphones, and HyperX has landed endorsement deals with major athletes and gamers. Is that why you chose them? I think HyperX makes a lot of audio devices with better quality and a little bit more comfort as well as with just a cleaner look. What about the keyboard you’re using? The keyboard is a Ducky One 2 Mini. It is a 60 percent keyboard, meaning that it’s traditionally smaller than most keyboards also comes with less keys, so the arrow keys are actually also the I, J, K and L keys. I hopped on this hype train where the player Tfue had been using this keyboard. I thought it was really cool. As you build up your presence, you gain more clout. And with clout comes a greater adherence to your personal image and brand. How does fashion play into all of that? With clout, you have more people looking at you, you have more people idolizing you. If you don’t have a sense of fashion, then you could be seen as almost like a nerd. But in a way, it changes how people look at you, it makes them think whether you’re cool or not. How has your style changed during lockdown? Since quarantine, I have been going for a much more comfortable look yet with a skater aesthetic. I think the best thing about dressing this way is that it doesn’t have to be super expensive. The new Hamilton is a girl! (Lin x female!reader)

{a/n: first part yay! Um yeah I hope ya like it, I got things wrong yes I know, um enjoy} Warnings: idk man if I have anything please tell me, so I know Summary: you get the part, only thing Lin doesn't know one very important part, you are very much a girl Lin had been in London when he got the email about the new Hamilton, a sound file attached, he put his headphones on, pressing play, the music started and he heard a slightly higher voice, but it was damn close to his when he played Hamilton, he found himself getting into his voice, reading the email, ‘Lin, so we found someone, half Hispanic half like a mix of the U.K. And like Poland, higher-low tones, no actual acting experience besides like middle school musicals, would be the shortest Hamilton we’ve had, around 5’3, youngest too, only 21, photo attached’ clicking the image was a short black haired guy, a slightly more androgynous vibe, but I mean he’d seen guys who looked like girls all the time, it wasn’t unusual for younger guys on broadway to have slightly more feminine features they looked young, which wasn’t always bad, I mean if Javier could play an older Hamilton, why not a younger one, the guy had talent, able to rap and spit, met other requirements he seemed like a good fit, though when he was done here he would half to see for himself, they would be in rehearsals right now, seeing as the new cast members wouldn’t be going on officially for a year almost, practice was the most important thing for his show. Sighing her hit reply quickly ‘I approve, have him fitted for costume, I wanna see him when I come home, let's see what this kids got’ he looked at the photo again ‘Kids good looking,’ Lin sighed shutting his laptop before sighing figuring he should sleep at some point. The months passed quicker than you expected, the costume fitting was the uncomfortable part, you had heard from many of your trans* friends that binders sucked for the first few days, and they sent you tips to make it slightly less rib crushing, you thanked them, today you were going to be all dressed up for the creator himself to see how you would look on stage, it was no surprise he was slightly worried, seeing as you would be the shortest Hamilton, not your fault you got your mother's height, you buttoned the shirt over your now flat chest sighing, what was nice was the not needing like an industrial sports bra for once, damn your grandmother's big breast gene, sighing you sat in the makeup chair, as they smiled helping make you look like a true Hamilton, they had helped the flood you called your hair, which you had warned would never grow down like Lin's in a year, you cursed the teenage years of bleach and dye. Soon you could hear the voices of happiness of friend reconnecting, the voice you knew all too well as the Lin-Manuel Miranda, you wanted to puke. Soon you were ready, an encouraging shoulder squeeze from the ensemble girls you had become fast friends with helped ‘You will do great, Lin is a sweetie, he has hawk eyes during practice but after he is the sweetest man you’ll meet’ you nodded walking into the practice room seeing the now famous grey sweater, he was here, this was it, dream achieved or dream destroyed, he held it in his hands, he had the power to put the understudy in over you, he could just put you in the ensemble, not that you would complain, but you had sort of grown to make Hamilton your own. Sighing you walked in fully the menturninga d smiling,Lin's eyes took you over as tommy and Alex spoke to him his eyes not leaving yours as they walked up ‘Lin this is (y/n), our new Hamilton’ he looked at you nodding ‘He looks good, the shoes bring his height up at least a little, and the costume fits nicely, he's a regular ten dollar founding father’ you smiled nodding ‘Thank you’ you tried to make your voice just slightly deeper as you spoke, he nodded ‘Alright show me your skills mister hamilton’ you nodded as they turned going to watch you guys rehearse, you heard the music start and on cue you walked out doing your best not to fumble because of your nerves, soon you had forgotten that Lin was even watching, it was the cabinet battle where the horror you tried to stop happened you fumbled the first verse, then the tripping over your feet didn’t help, soon the song ended and you wanted to curl into a hole and never come out, sighing a break was called, you were told to stay behind, the ensemble girls walked by squeezing your shoulder to help calm you, you now stood alone with Lin and Alex and tommy, Lin looked at you nodding ‘So, the fumbled lines and tripping, they happen to everyone, nerves will do that, I...God you are amazing, like wow, you look the part, you sound the part, this is amazing!’ You smiled nodding ‘Really? I’m not doomed to the cage of rejected cast calls?’ Lin threw his head back laughing ‘No, no you're not, in 6 months time, you will be on stage, and the world will never be the same’ you nodded as they dismissed you to go change, practice was done for the day. You nodded practically skipping back to get your normal clothes. Wiping the makeup off you saw your female features appear sighing, when he finds out you would be screwed. Slowly and carefully you peeled off the costume hanging it up before slipping pulling off the binder groaning happily as you could breath again, you didn’t hear the door open ‘Hey I just wanted-’ you turned quickly forgetting you were topless, Lin stood eyes wide mouth open ‘Your a...you have...um’ you grabbed your shirt holding it over your chest unable to say anything, ‘Um...excuse me’ the door, shut but you heard the shouting Alex and Lin were loud you changed slipping your normal clothes on, before sitting on the couch your head in your hands fighting the tears, this was it, you were done, Hamilton was pulled from your hands. You bit your lip as the tears fell down your cheeks, sighing you stood pulling your hoodie and bag on wiping your eyes before walking out, and straight into a solid force falling back you caught yourself looking up at Lin who looked back,at you before coming in and shutting the door ‘So, here's the deal, i don’t like the fact I was lied to, but I understand, so, you are still Hamilton, cause damn your good, but, i want to work with you on some things, voice tone and pitch, and movements, we are gonna make this the most convincing Hamilton okay’ you looked at him smiling nodding ‘Yes sir’ he smiled before pulling you into a hug, ‘Welcome to Hamilton’ you smiled nodding against his chest your arms around his waist. Soon you broke apart, he walked you out and offered to walk you home which you accepted. The conversation was natural and normal between you, friendly, once at your apartment complex he sighed ‘Well good night mister hamilton’ you laughed ‘Goodnight mister Miranda’ he laughed nodding you walked up the steps turning to wave good bye as you pulled the door open...turning ‘Wanna come up for like coffee? I mean if ya want’ he nodded following you. You felt the beginning of a wonderful….whatever this would be.
