m // motivation

the vast majority of lyra’s sexual history hasn’t been driven by her personal desires but by an ulterior motive, a means to an end — she needed to seduce someone to get them off their guard, she needed them in a vulnerable position, she needed to get close to a target. she viewed her sexuality very pragmatically; it was a tool. it was a weapon.

lyra also historically used sex as a form of self-medication ( sort of referenced above ) — she’ll use it to blow off steam when the adrenaline is up, when her blood is beating in her ears, when she needs to do something or she’ll do something worse.

that’s not so much of an issue when she has an outlet with the project; the adrenaline bit is obviously still true, but she doesn’t use sex as a coping mechanism anymore, it’s just when she wants to ( which is often, she’s a hot-blooded creature ) and not when she feels she has to or one reason or another.

otherwise, it’s one of her primary means of expressing affection, it’s the love language in which she’s most fluent, so she’ll instigate sex if she wants to offer comfort or demonstrate love.
