Underrated Fics, Part 11
As the year winds down, I have a few fics to share that haven’t reached their full potential audience yet. I know there are lots of goodies still waiting under everyone’s fic tree to be read, but if you have some room in a nook or cranny somewhere, please consider adding some of these. (P.S. See my other “Underrated” lists here.)
Criteria for this list:
Complete
Last chapter posted prior to December 1, 2018
Fewer than 200 kudos as of this posting
Earned a 'favorite' from me on AO3
In descending order of length:
1. I've no idea why this hasn't been snapped up yet. It's set in the popular Baskerville scenario with werewolves, hurt/comfort, and a breakneck race against time. It’s like comfort food in the form of a classic Johnlock fic.
The Bite (48220 words) by Laur Rating: Explicit Relationships: Sherlock Holmes/John Watson Summary: Sherlock gets it wrong. Days, months, even years in the future, Sherlock’s oversight during the Baskerville case will continue to torment him, but nothing about that night will ever be as painfully vivid as the memory of John’s screams. This is how it begins.
******
2. This story really hits all the stops from fluff to danger and betrayal, from self-discovery and first times to long-term established relationships. I am guessing that the focus on Rose is a stumbling block for many hardcore Johnlock readers, but this also does a lot of Johnlock work along with portraying a strong LGBT female protagonist so give it some kudos!
Rosa Felicia (39696 words) by SilentAuror Rating: Mature Relationships: Rose Watson-Holmes/OMC, Rose Watson-Holmes/OFC, Sherlock Holmes/John Watson Summary: Rose Watson-Holmes is eighteen and in her first year of university studying Food Science & Nutrition when events erupt in her life that force her to learn some things about her family's history never previously revealed to her. A coming-of-age story.
******
3. In an unconventional twist, John is a Vulcan in this Star Trek crossover. Grippingly written, with terrific pacing and some very fun casting and easter egg moments.
With Careful Hands (15549 words) by Laura JV Rating: Teen and Up Audiences Relationships: Sherlock Holmes/John Watson Summary: John returns to London with his mind irretrievably ruined. Sherlock Holmes just wants someone to go halves on a flat. And then there's a double homicide.
*******
4. A tender mix of angst and fluff with some neatly done mini-cases, comeuppance served hot, BAMF John, two men and a baby (but only temporarily), near-catastrophic jealousy, and perfect gestures of love.
Linens (from the bottom drawer) (15330 words) by Zingiber Rating: Mature Relationships: Sherlock Holmes/John Watson, Molly Hooper/Greg Lestrade Summary: Five times Sherlock calls John his husband and one time John calls Sherlock his.
******
5. This is one of the more smut-intensive installments from this epic series, but it's no less worth the read. No previous knowledge necessary, just read and indulge.
Dilate (13663 words) by illwick Rating: Explicit Relationships: Sherlock Holmes/John Watson Summary: A pleasant weekend in leads to some interesting experimentation.
******
6. This comes with a Major Character Death warning but it's not John or Sherlock and it happened before the story begins. This is a real ghost story with a mystery that's great fun to try to figure out: while you may guess early on who it is that's haunting Sherlock, the question of why is much more obscure.
So Closely Allied (10702 words) by J_Baillier Rating: Teen And Up Audiences Relationships: Sherlock Holmes/John Watson Summary: She has always been a part of his life but now, she needs to leave.

Don’t worry if you haven’t cultivated all of them yet. After all that’s what I’m here for to help you with. As you probably know the term fitness coach is pretty broad and can mean a lot of things. So let’s use the example of a weight loss coach to help you understand what you need to bring to the table to coach students well. In general, weight loss coaches use various coaching methods and programs to help their clients reach their target weight and maintain it. They work on issues like over-eating, establishing a control over diet and their relationship with food. Some weight loss coaches also give exercise advice and help students set up a good workout to supplement their diet. To do all this effectively, they need to have some key skills. First of all they need to Understand Behavioural Patterns By identifying the eating and lifestyle behaviors of normal people, a weight loss coach helps their clients figure out their individual obstacles that hold them back from their dream body. The coach will have to evaluate which of the habit of the clients need to be worked on, which of them are beneficial and can be turned into positive assets and which of them need to be eliminated. Since bevavior and habbits are often unconscious you need a good understanding of human psychology to do this as a coach. Understand the Relationship with Diet A coach also has to understand what their clients current relationship with their diet and food is. A positive relationship with food is cruical to any success in fitness which means negative behavioral patterns have to be adjusted or overcome. As a side note: if you find that one of your students has an eating disorder please urge them to consult a doctor as this a one of the things normal diet coaches are not trained to handle. Help Establish Realistic Goals Various studies have shown that losing a lot of weight in a really short amount of time can be harmful to your own body. Setting unlikely goals like losing 10 pounds in 5 days will only de-motivate clients omce they see it’s not sustainable. A good weight loss coach will help them set realistic goals and design a program tailored to individual and their specific situation. This includes lifestyle changes, education about the nutition and customized meal plans. Design programs This brings me to the last point, which is custom program design. You need to be able to build a new custom diet and workout for your client from scratch. Cookie cutter meal plans usually don’t work and won’t gain you a strong reputation so make sure you know how to set up not just your own diet but also one for someone else. Becuase all this can be done via skype or email, online coaching is beginning to become extremely popular as it is less time-consuming and can be done from anywhere in the world. So these are the fundametal skills you need as a coach working in the fitness industry. Make sure to take responsibility for your work and help your client develop a more balanced and effective approach to fitness. Music: Tobu - Seven [NCS Release] https://youtu.be/h18gwLKQf_Q
