It depends but you can sometimes do this depending on the details. A federal case for example could be then tried on the state level. That is not double jeopardy. You can pressure your local counties to call for ballot audits today. Join the revolution.

I remained nervous and worried on the long drive back, feelings that did not abate until midnight, when I received the call that the PPE shipment was secured at our warehouse.”

The disadvantages of self-control.

The exhortation to self-control is really an exhortation to obedience and submission. (When they said I lacked 'self-control', what they actually meant was I wasn't controlling myself according to their demands. and they proceeded to take actual selfcontrol away from me) If we are really going to free ourselves of the crippling influence of convention and actually arbitrary, oppressive socalled 'authority', we probably ought to rid ourselves of all self-control that is not absolutely necessary.

Real change.

The cave-dwelling masses and everyday non-mental -patients, while all too fatuously and recklessly embracing ideologies of social 'progress', are frightened of a real change in their Being and locked into a pattern of stagnation and decay. The madman, (remember, the etymological meaning of the word 'mad' is to 'change') at least in the normative, ideal sense of that term, (as well as often he or she who is solabelled), has awakened to the need for spiritual becoming, both in himself and others.

Madness and Art.

Madmen and poets are alike: they both give freer reign to their emotional and linguistic expressions than is considered decent. And, both of them too, do it largely for socially admirable, therapeutic reasons. Albeit the 'mad' one is more often misunderstood, since people forget that all life, and the unartistic life most of all, is a good opportunity for art, for therapy.

The unartistic life is the most drab, automatic, unredeemed kind of life, in which salutary disruptions are still possible No one blinks twice if they see an eviscerated heart in an art gallery nowadays. But if they see an eviscerated heart while it is still in someone's chest. That's magic.

Autobiography of values as requisite.

To counter-act the tide of artificial, false pretenses to expert, scientific 'objectivity', and the docile, herd-like conformity that actually entails within social science, within the healing professions, and within society a whole, I propose that a personal account of one's life-story, focusing on how one came to arrive at one's central, integral values, become a standard for all such careers. This would be a move towards bolstering the development of personality and character throughout society, preventing people from hiding entirely behind their professional veneers, and presencing the real-lived experience and actual, rather than false selves, of individuals. I don't propose this merely as a helpful task for the 'professional' on the way to qualifying, but as a central piece that he must present to his or her clients/patients. A kind of C. V., but, as I say, with the focus on HOW HE CAME TO HIS CENTRAL CONVICTIONS ABOUT LIFE

‘Recreational’ drug use is medicinal drug use.

The potential of currently illegal substances such as LSD and DMT, as well as more common and less potent ones such as marajuana, to provide radical new, mad vistas of consciousness, and so heal the mental sickness with which mainstream society is so disastrously afflicted ( see the work of Terence Mckenna), is no less important than their capacity to treat physical illness or relieve physical pain. While all substances can potentially be used ill-advisedly, the depreciation of supposed ‘recreational’ uses ignores the dire and gaping need even so-called ‘normal’ people have for fresh inspiration, hedonic sustenance, and the health benefits that all true enjoyment, relaxation or true insight brings. It merely repeats the fallacious and artifical seperation between these supposedly mutually alien aspects of ourselves, a long with the superstitious, ascetic and crude utilitarian privileging of the mere functionality of ‘health’, over the supposedly wicked nature of happiness in this world --- a sad residue of religious puritanism and centuries of slavery to sadistic dogmas of control --even though it is only Epicurean pleasure that ultimately justifies life itself. This attitude is so pervasive and so perverse that it simply cannot be under-stated.Ravi Das, a neuroscientist at University College London who is researching the effects of ketamine said: “The potential benefits are definitely downplayed in face of these drugs being used recreationally,” he said. “People view their use in a research setting as ‘people are just having a good time’. ”From this vantage point, must one not wager the theory that almost the whole of modern medicine, most obviously in terms of mental illness, but even in its approach to illness as such --- including physical illness- -- as simply a form of prolonged Christian hatred-ofthe-flesh and jaw-dropping sado-masochism on a mass scale ? That is why Prof. David Nutt equated the barriers to research to the Catholic church’s censorship of Galileo’s work in 1616. “We’ve banned research on psychedelic drugs and other drugs like cannabis for 50 years,” he said. “Truly, in terms of the amount of wasted opportunity, it’s way greater than the banning of the telescope. This is a truly appalling level of censorship. ” Ignoring the importance of psycho-active drugs for promoting health is bad enough, but to ignore or denigrate the importance of pleasure to this aim, is like discounting the use of the eyes in driving to work in the morning! --.

Beyond rational self-preservation ((lock him up! He's a danger to himself.

Enlightenment thinkers such Thomas Hobbes and John Locke tried to appeal to and foster what is called man's rational selfpreservation, inserting it above all other goals as the centrepiece and pivot of the whole of society. Notice here the two concepts, reason, on the one hand, and self-preservation, on the other, are heavily intertwined, which still remains the case today. Madness, on the other hand, is commonly associated with throwing caution to the wind, tightrope walking over a precipice just for the sheer Hell of it, and embracing a variety of dangers that may very well end in personal extinction. However, when one considers the nature of our own inevitable mortality, is making selfpreservation our highest goal really so rational? In order to face life in all its grim reality, is it not necessary, at some point or other, to eschew 'rational' self-preservation for a bold leap, (if only in the imagination, if not outward practice), towards an affirmation and embrace of this inextricable fatality? Especially if one seeks to give birth to something greater than oneself, like the Christ, and take on the grave sacrifices that sometimes requires. In other words, rather than 'rational self-preservation', isn't the ability for the‘insane self-annihilation’ of loving sacrifice equally, or an even greater sign of maturity - or of true morality? Thus also the Buddha would seem to have it, who equally, in view of the passing away of all earthly things, preached 'Loss of self' rather than the steady incremental Lockean accumulation of an estate that is eventually destined to perish anyway; he who is said, out of compassion, to have given his life up to be voluntarily devoured by a starving tiger. Reminds me of those ‘voluntary patients’ on the ward that I was on!—.

Consequences of the dehumanization of madness on the collective mind.

The villifIcation of madness and the various phenomenon which are labelled as ‘mentally ill’ in our society, such as ‘grandiose delusions’, ‘hallucinations’, ‘paranoia’, etc. , a long with all the other countless represents a form of collective repression that not only has unspeakably dire results for those so labelled, but wreaks utter havoc on the collective unconscious and the collective conscious. Rather than being the shamen, the spiritual leaders of society, such men and women are quietly tortured and cast into ignominy. Thereby, society is not only deprived of its natural guiding elite, but everyone in society is trained to feel a senseless (‘paranoid’) fear and hatred of their own deepest spiritual roots, that prevents them re-connecting with these forbidden aspects of themselves and manifesting their true potential. Take for instance ‘paranoia’. This stigmatization of questioning the benevolent motives and fundamental agendas of one’s government is one of the most cynical and blatant causes of that government getting out of control and the citizenry failing to protect their own rights and freedoms. The same applies to all the other associated phenomenon of madness, which as has been argued, represent a perenial bed-fellow and midwife of intellectual and spiritual awakening. Just as the criminalization of drugs produces an association between drug-use and general criminality that does not exist independently, re-validating society’s negative view of drug-use in its own eyes, so the category of mental illness and the inhumane, disabling treatments with which those who fall subject to it suffer, is not merely a product of but re-inforces and creates society’s negative attitude to those who manifest these various ‘mad’ phenomenon. All the while, the fact that the sacred key to everybody’s own selfrealization is so maligned and spat upon understandably produces a deep, unacknowledged sense of disconcertedness and pessimism in the population as a whole, the root cause of many other of society’s ailments and self-destructive tendencies. In truth, the real mental illness is the senseless conformity which the ‘mental health’ establishment sacralizes. This sanctified madness then, unconsciously aware of its own shortcomings, in order to sustain its own self-conception as reasonable and sane, is driven to ever more fervent quest to identity and persecute those it delusionally deems ‘mad’, for the sake of externalizing and thereby gaining some sense of control over its own deepest insecuries, and having an Other to label & stigmatize in opposition to which it can re-affirm its own false, insecure and groundless sense of Self

She would never bother anybody again. - [9:25 PM] She made up her mind. She was so tired of being less important than anything or anyone. - [8:33 PM] She knocked on her mother's room. But she was too busy with those paperworks. Paperworks were more important than her. "Go back to sleep. Stop bothering me." - [7:23 PM] She texted her father. Her father was with his new mistress. His mistress was more important than her. "I'm gonna give you money tomorrow. I'm busy. Stop bothering me." - [6:42 PM] She knocked on her sister's room. But she was studying for her exams tomorrow. However, sadness is usually short-lived. When a person suffers with depression, it can affect work, school, eating, and the ability to enjoy life over an extended period. It is imperative to make the distinction between sadness and clinical depression; when depression is recognized, needed treatment can be obtained.

Depression can affect one's ability to do the simplest things, such as waking up in the morning, brushing your teeth, going to school or work, and eating a meal. Depressed feelings make it hard to function normally, focus, and participate in once-enjoyable activities. Depressed feelings result in little to no motivation or energy, making it hard to get through each day.

Symptoms of depression range from feeling sad, empty, hopeless, angry, cranky, or frustrated; to weight loss or gain; to thinking about dying and/or having suicidal thoughts. What causes depression? Heredity plays a significant role, accounting for half of the etiology behind depression. Depressed individuals often are direct family members of others who suffer from depression. Depressed individuals may not have the same thoughts as healthy persons, due to neurotransmitter imbalances in the brain. Specifically, depressed individuals experience abnormal regulation of cholinergic, catecholaminergic (noradrenergic or dopaminergic), and serotonergic (5-hydroxytryptamine) neurotransmission. The neurotransmitter imbalances can prevent someone from recognizing that he or she could find help. Many depressed individuals cannot imagine being happy again. They feel unbearable emotional, and sometimes physical, pain that seems to have only two options: dying or living with pain. Neuroendocrine dysregulation may relate to problems of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal, hypothalamic-pituitary-thyroid, or growth hormone systems, areas that can be treated. Psychosocial factors also play a role in depression. Major life stressors can precipitate depression but normally do not cause clinical depression, except in people predisposed to depression. Once someone has been clinically depressed, she is at higher risk for depression. Women are at higher risk, possibly related to heightened response to daily stressors (emotional sensitivity), higher levels of monoamine oxidase enzyme responsible for degrading neurotransmitters, higher rates of thyroid dysfunction, and the endocrine changes of menstruation and at menopause. Depression can be categorized as mild, moderate, or severe. The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders Fifth Edition classifies eight depressive disorders. Five of the depressive disorders are classified according to symptoms. Major depressive disorder is defined as a period lasting two weeks or longer, when a person experiences at least five of nine symptoms where one symptom is depressed mood or loss of interest or pleasure in activities. Persistent depressive disorder is a depressed mood that lasts for at least two years in adults, but only one year in children or adolescents. Other specified or unspecified depressive disorders involve symptoms that do not meet the full criteria for another depressive disorder, but cause clinically significant distress or impairment. Disruptive mood dysregulation disorder, diagnosed in children, involves severe emotional outbursts and irritable mood. The remaining three depressive disorders are classified by etiology and include premenstrual dysphoric disorder, depressive disorder due to another medical condition, and substance/medication-induced depressive disorder. Adolescents can have any of these disorders. In the past, people believed children could not suffer with depression. When teens showed signs of depression, it could be mistaken for the moodiness of puberty. Research today reveals that teens may be clinically depressed. Clinical depression may lead to attempts at self-harm. Teenagers may show indicators of depression that are different from adults. Depressed teens may sulk, act out, get in trouble at school, express negativity, and feel misunderstood by others. One study suggests that as many as six students in a classroom may be struggling with depression at any given time. Teens struggle with school, grades, family, friends, and their identity. Bullying is a serious problem, contributing to teen depression. In 2013, 19.6% of U.S. high school students reported being bullied on school property, whereas 14.8% reported bullying electronically by email, chat rooms, instant messaging, websites, or texting. Sadly, family members, friends, and school personnel may not notice teens who are sad, lonely, and distressed, as they can be invisible or try not to be noticed. These self-inflicted injuries are a cry for help. The first step to preventing teen suicide is recognizing and treating depression. Effective, early intervention will help reduce the burden and disability of depression. A combination of proactive support, mood elevating medications, and psychotherapy such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, can effectively treat teen depression. Depressed teens need to be assessed for how they respond to life, especially stressful situations. Negative thinking patterns and behaviors can be replaced with effective coping strategies, such as good problem solving, helping with motivation to change, building self-esteem, resolving relationship problems, and learning stress management techniques. If chronic pain is a variable, management of pain is important. Other studies additionally support the importance of religion and increased frequency of attendance at religious services as protective factors for depression and suicidal ideation in adolescents. Adults and peers can help prevent suicide by knowing the risk factors, warning signs, and asking if a teen has been thinking about suicide. It is okay to ask, “Do you ever feel so badly that you think about suicide?” “Do you have a plan to commit suicide or take your life?” “Have you thought about when you would do it (today, tomorrow, next week)?” “Have you thought about what method you would use?” The more specific thinking and plans a person has made, the more serious the risk of suicide. Risk also is greater if warning signs are new and/or have increased, or are possibly related to an anticipated or actual painful event, loss, or change. Major depression and suicide can be averted if society takes action by careful consideration of the individual's developmental level, identifying high-risk groups, and researching the best evidenced-based interventions to reach the largest numbers. However, despite the prevalence of depression, the impact on school performance, and lifelong costs, there is little discussion about intervention for depression among school personnel. Sadly, it is common for someone suffering with depression to go unnoticed. Teen depression continues to be a quiet crisis in schools. To intervene, we need raised awareness of the problem, trained school personnel, and structures for delivering mental health services in schools. Depression is a quiet crisis, but it need not be. Increased awareness, with the development of needed mental health programs, can reach teens who need help. Working with social media can reach teens who may be suffering in silence. Collaboration with teen support groups and faith organizations can create safe havens for teens. Through a coordinated effort on the part of public and private industry, government agencies, concerned family, friends, schools, and healthcare professionals, we can make a difference in preventing suicide and saving lives. For a difference to occur, people need to acknowledge the severity of teen depression and the significant risk of suicide. Teens need our attention to make them feel valued, accepted, and secure in the knowledge that people are there to help them. Teens taking their lives is a tragedy. In conclusion, depression doesn't go naked. It sometimes wears a blue shirt and sits in a corner of a house while clutching a toy car in its little arms, trying hard not to hear the violent words from its parents' mouths.It sometimes wears a school uniform, reluctantly going home, in its bag is a report card that will certainly define its worth just like what it did last year.It sometimes wears a jacket not against the cold but to conceal the bruises in its pale skin.It sometimes wears a pink dress, sometimes, an orange sweater, a white lab coat, a black suit, a yellow cardigan a green basketball jersey.It wears everything— cheap or expensive— everything.But no matter what clothes it uses, there's something that it never forgets to put on. Hackers seek ransoms from Baltimore and communities across the US

The people of Baltimore are beginning their fifth week under an electronic siege that has prevented residents from obtaining building permits and business licenses – and even buying or selling homes. A year after hackers disrupted the city’s emergency services dispatch system, city workers throughout the city are unable to, among other things, use their government email accounts or conduct routine city business.

In this attack, a type of malicious software called ransomware has encrypted key files, rendering them unusable until the city pays the unknown attackers 13 bitcoin, or about US$76,280. But even if the city were to pay up, there is no guarantee that its files would all be recovered; many ransomware attacks end with the data lost, whether the ransom is paid or not.

Similar attacks in recent years have crippled the United Kingdom’s National Health Service, shipping giant Maersk and local, county and state governments across the U.S. and Canada.

These types of attacks are becoming more frequent and gaining more media attention. Speaking as a career cybersecurity professional, the technical aspects of incidents like this are but one part of a much bigger picture. Every user of technology must consider not only threats and vulnerabilities, but also operational processes, potential points of failure and how they use technology on a daily basis. Thinking ahead, and taking protective steps, can help reduce the effects of cybersecurity incidents on both individuals and organizations.

Understanding cyberattack tools

Software designed to attack other computers is nothing new. Nations, private companies, individual researchers and criminals continue developing these types of programs, for a wide range of purposes, including digital warfare and intelligence gathering, as well as extortion by ransomware.

Many malware efforts begin as a normal and crucial function of cybersecurity: identifying software and hardware vulnerabilities that could be exploited by an attacker. Security researchers then work to close that vulnerability. By contrast, malware developers, criminal or otherwise, will figure out how to get through that opening undetected, to explore and potentially wreak havoc in a target’s systems.

Sometimes a single weakness is enough to give an intruder the access they want. But other times attackers will use multiple vulnerabilities in combination to infiltrate a system, take control, steal data and modify or delete information – while trying to hide any evidence of their activity from security programs and personnel. The challenge is so great that artificial intelligence and machine learning systems are now also being incorporated to help with cybersecurity activities.

There’s some question about the role the federal government may have played in this situation, because one of the hacking tools the attackers reportedly used in Baltimore was developed by the U.S. National Security Agency, which the NSA has denied. However, hacking tools stolen from the NSA in 2017 by the hacker group Shadow Brokers were used to launch similar attacks within months of those tools being posted on the internet. Certainly, those tools should never have been stolen from the NSA – and should have been better protected.

But my views are more complicated than that: As a citizen, I recognize the NSA’s mandate to research and develop advanced tools to protect the country and fulfill its national security mission. However, like many cybersecurity professionals, I remain conflicted: When the government discovers a new technology vulnerability but doesn’t tell the maker of the affected hardware or software until after it’s used to cause havoc or disclosed by a leak, everyone is at risk.

Baltimore’s situation

The estimated $18 million cost of recovery in Baltimore is money the city likely doesn’t have readily available. Recent research by some of my colleagues at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, shows that many state and local governments remain woefully underprepared and underfunded to adequately, let alone proactively, deal with cybersecurity’s many challenges.

It is concerning that the ransomware attack in Baltimore exploited a vulnerability that has been publicly known about – with an available fix – for over two years. NSA had developed an exploit (code-named EternalBlue) for this discovered security weakness but didn’t alert Microsoft about this critical security vulnerability until early 2017 – and only after the Shadow Brokers had stolen the NSA’s tool to attack it. Soon after, Microsoft issued a software security update to fix this key flaw in its Windows operating system.

Admittedly, it can be very complex to manage software updates for a large organization. But given the media coverage at the time about the unauthorized disclosure of many NSA hacking tools and the vulnerabilities they targeted, it’s unclear why Baltimore’s information technology staff didn’t ensure the city’s computers received that particular security update immediately. And while it’s not necessarily fair to blame the NSA for the Baltimore incident, it is entirely fair to say that the knowledge and techniques behind the tools of digital warfare are out in the world; we must learn to live with them and adapt accordingly.

Compounding problems

In a global society where people, companies and governments are increasingly dependent on computers, digital weaknesses have the power to seriously disrupt or destroy everyday actions and functions.

Even trying to develop workarounds when a crisis hits can be challenging. Baltimore city employees who were blocked from using the city’s email system tried to set up free Gmail accounts to at least get some work done. But they were initially blocked by Google’s automated security systems, which identified them as potentially fraudulent.

Making matters worse, when Baltimore’s online services went down, parts of the city’s municipal phone system couldn’t handle the resulting increase in calls attempting to compensate. This underscores the need to not only focus on technology products themselves but also the policies, procedures and capabilities needed to ensure individuals and/or organizations can remain at least minimally functional when under duress, whether by cyberattack, technology failures or acts of nature.

Protecting yourself, and your livelihood

The first step to fighting a ransomware attack is to regularly back up your data – which also provides protection against hardware failures, theft and other problems. To deal with ransomware, though, it’s particularly important to keep a few versions of your backups over time – don’t just rewrite the same files on a backup drive over and over.

That’s because when you get hit, you’ll want to determine when you were infected and restore files from a backup made before that time. Otherwise, you’ll just be recovering infected data, and not actually fixing your problem. Yes, you might lose some data, but not everything – and presumably only your most recent work, which you’ll probably remember and recreate easily enough.

And of course, following some of cybersecurity’s best practices – even just the basics – can help prevent, or at least minimize, the possibility of ransomware crippling you or your organization. Doing things like running current antivirus software, keeping all software updated, using strong passwords and multifactor authentication, and not blindly trusting random devices or email attachments you encounter are just some of the steps everyone should take to be a good digital citizen.

It’s also worth making plans to work around potential failures that might befall your email provider, internet service provider and power company, not to mention the software we rely on. Whether they’re attacked or simply fail, their absence can disrupt your life.

In this way, ransomware incidents serve as an important reminder that cybersecurity is not just limited to protecting digital bits and bytes in cyberspace. Rather, it should force everyone to think broadly and holistically about their relationship with technology and the processes that govern its role and use in our lives. And, it should make people consider how they might function without parts of it at both work and home, because it’s a matter of when, not if, problems will occur.

Ever since the revolution began, crime rates are on the rise. The peaceful protests have inspired the more violent deviants to lash out in their own way, declaring war on mankind to prove their individual points. It was tiring, and certainly it took a toll on the police department. Everything was a high stress situation when it came to android-associated crimes, especially when the head count on humans increased with every passing day.

Three months have gone by since Connor deviated from CyberLife’s instructions and freed the androids from their warehouse, and three months since the RK900 models have been produced, activated, and set to work; they were another wrench in his plans. In the grand scheme of things, he would protect human and android lives at any cost, even if it meant sacrificing his own life: a FEAR that haunted his conscience daily. After all, CyberLife would no longer promote the continuation of the RK800 series, or his life; there would be no guaranteed repairs.

And yet, when presented with the opportunity of taking an undercover mission, Connor was the first to volunteer. Why bother the risk of endangering human lives when he could easily complete the mission alone? He’d be more effective and efficient, a unit to upload information straight to the department’s computers without being found out or having to sneak back to the precinct to share his findings. He could take recordings, pictures, and even share his memory of every face and conversation he comes across. It was simple, an easy job, no matter how much the lieutenant disagreed with the danger involved.

The Lieutenant was FURIOUS, and Captain Fowler’s irritation was clearly beginning to get the best of his patience. The department was no longer responsible for the damages of an android, no matter the model, and he was looking at the bigger picture. Since the undercover operation began, the crimes associated with the suspected group had stopped. Surely that meant Connor had been successful and would return any day now.

“ He’s probably been busy, and we have more important things to worry about, like the Red Ice problem. ”

A veil of silence falls between them, and Hank disrupts it by the scoot of his chair as it screeched across the floor. It was obvious to tell he wasn’t happy, especially by the way his expression twists and his brows knit. If the captain wasn’t going to be of use, then he’d go out himself. But not before sharing a few choice words as he stops in the doorway.

“ Yeah, well, fuck you Fowler. You may not be worried about him, but he’s my partner. I’ll find him my damn self. ”

The door slams, Hank gathers his essentials from his desk, and he storms out of the office. But what would he know of where to go? He was no android, nor was he currently partnered with one who could be of help. Panic sets in, alongside concern and frustration. There were so many questions, and nobody to answer them. That is until he remembers the news and a particular face, someone who knew Connor and may be willing to help: MARKUS. He had to find Markus, and he knew he could likely ask any android if they could set up a meeting for him.

“ I was beginning to think you wouldn’t show up. ”

It had only taken a few hours and a meeting place set in stone before Markus arrives, alone, and he greets Hank with a warm but wary smile. -- What was he to think of the situation? A human asking the leader of Jericho for help was such an unlikely scenario, and yet he was living it. And to think it was Hank of all people, but then again this was Connor’s partner; surely he could trust the man.

“ When I heard that Connor might be in danger, I couldn’t refuse. What’s going on? ”

It’d taken a good few minutes for Hank to explain everything: the case, the mission, the investigation parameters, and the people involved. He reached into his coat pocket and removed a crumpled piece of paper with an address and location written on it, handing it over to Markus for him to look at. Always old school in terms of jotting things down quickly, but he’d been in a hurry.

“ He wouldn’t go this long without a fucking update. I know him. He’d jump at any chance to be a pain in the ass, what with his constant updates or whatever. Can’t get him to stop talking about what he finds sometimes. ”

But as he speaks, they’re fond memories, a smile tugging at the corners of Hank’s mouth when he talks about it. -- Markus falls silent as he examines the paper, logging the address and coordinates before his internal map and GPS sets a pin. A warehouse near the outskirts of Detroit, obviously meant for taking in shipment at a port; likely lined with old crates and boxes used to house goods, shut down because of a fire many years ago. Nobody bothered to buy the building, or even attempt to repair and restore it.

“ I have it. Let’s get going. ”

It’s not long before they arrive, car coming to a quiet roll and halt just outside the building. It was snow-kissed and hauntingly silent, save for the whistle of the wind bleeding through cracks in the concrete structure. There’s the old creak of metalwork, an ancient wail that sings its rusted ache. Markus was the first to open the door and step out, leaning down in the doorway.

“ You should stay here. I can’t let you get hurt on my account. ”

But before Markus could finish, Hank was already getting out of the car. He was stubborn, but Connor was more important to him. Besides, he was the one properly armed, as evident by the click of his gun he’s already drawn even before nudging his door closed.

“ I don’t think so. If they’re still in there, you’re gonna need me. ”

And it’s Hank who leads without another word, gun raised and with Markus in tow. The rickety metal door sways ever so slightly with the breeze, and Hank nudges it open with his foot. It’s Markus who clicks a flashlight on, shining it over Hank’s shoulder to survey their surroundings.

“ It looks empty. ”

Markus said, walking past Hank into the expanse of the area. Parts of the floor and some of the empty containers were dusted with snow, a subtle hint of just how deserted the place was. Hank squinted, struggling to see. It was pitch black, and even with a flashlight he couldn’t see every corner like he’d want to. But Markus was right, the building showed no signs of life for at least a few days from what he could see.

“ Well can’t you run your analyzing program or whatever it’s called? At least just check around to be sure. ”

With a shrug of his shoulders, Markus did just that. First came the tint change, then the grid, and his eyes scanned the expanse of the room. Aside from a few traces of thirium here and there, nothing seemed too out of the blue until his eyes settled on one of the containers. Curious to see what was left behind, wondering if it was useful to the department’s investigation, Markus climbed up and onto the top using a smaller box as his stepping stool before pushing the lid off to reveal something more. A pause, and Markus slid into the container.

“ Markus? ”

There was a sinking feeling in Hank’s chest, anxiety rising up. Surely it couldn’t be, right? Connor couldn’t be dead, especially not left in this place of all things. But as Markus emerges from the container again, pulling himself up, over the edge, and back onto the smaller crate, he takes a seat and ushers Hank closer. In his hand was an audio device, the biocomponent used for hearing and recording sound. It takes a moment before he hacks it, and with a satisfying click and less satisfying screech of a microphone’s frequency, it begins to play back the non-corrupted logs.

Static. The sound cuts out and there’s nothing left. No further logs, no further diagnostics to be made. That was the end of the transmission, of the log. Markus goes to speak, to utter hopeful words. He knew Connor was strong, but the defeat on Hank’s features tells him that this was it. The man knew Connor better than anyone, and if this was it... then there was no more hope left. It was only a matter of time before the new models had hunted Connor down and eliminate CyberLife’s biggest failure.

This experience decreased the risks and increased the extent of tumor removal. Surgical navigation systems allowed previously inoperable tumors to be excised with appropriate risks in many cases. Some of these devices can also be used for biopsies without the need for a frame to be attached to the skull. One drawback of these systems is that they rely on a pre-surgery scan (CT or MRI) to direct the neurosurgeon. As a result, they are unable to account for intraoperative brain movements.

According to a recent study, cortical language mapping may be used as a secure and effective adjunct to improve glioma resection while maintaining critical language sites.

Some patients with brain tumors can need ventriculoperitoneal shunting. Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) is continuously flowing inside the brain and spine of all. If this flow is blocked, the sacs that hold the fluid (the ventricles) will swell, causing increased pressure inside the head and resulting in hydrocephalus. Hydrocephalus, if left untreated, can cause brain damage and even death. The neurosurgeon may decide to use a shunt to redirect spinal fluid away from the brain, lowering pressure.

The peritoneal cavity is the most common body cavity into which CSF is redirected (the area surrounding the abdominal organs). The shunt is usually permanent. If it becomes blocked, the symptoms are close to those of hydrocephalus, which can include headaches, vomiting, vision issues, and/or depression or lethargy, among other things. Stereotactic radiosurgery (such as Gamma Knife, Novalis, and Cybercide) is a procedure that focuses radiation on the target tissue using several beams. This procedure does less damage to the tissues surrounding the tumor. There is currently no proof that one delivery system is superior to another in terms of clinical results, and each has advantages and disadvantages.

Chemotherapy is usually thought to be efficient in treating some pediatric tumors, lymphomas, and certain oligodendrogliomas. Although chemotherapy has been shown to increase overall survival in patients with the most malignant primary brain tumors, it only benefits about 20% of all patients, and doctors are unable to predict which patients will benefit before treatment. As a result of the possible side effects, some doctors opt not to use chemotherapy (lung scarring, suppression of the immune system, nausea, etc.).
