Birthday
Tumblr media
Too Young Masterlist Summary: It's Arthur's first birthday.
Arthur’s first birthday came around faster than they could have imagined. It had been a year full of firsts. Arthur took his first steps, said his first word “Dada”, went to his first concert, the list was endless.
Jay had kindly offered to host Arthur’s first birthday party at her house, Anne of course offering to help plan and prepare everything with her. So the two proud grandmothers excitedly did it all. YN always appreciated how lucky Arthur was to have such doting grandparents.
YN had always been made to feel welcome at Louis mum’s house, despite them not being together. So when YN arrived, with Harry behind her carrying Arthur on his hip she wasn’t surprised when Louis grandmother welcomed her with warm open arms.
“Come on in my love.” Jen hugged YN, before greeting Harry and making a fuss of the little boy, who still had his arms clung around his uncles neck. “And happy birthday to this handsome little boy!”.
Following Louis grandmother through the large cosy house, they were met with their close family and friends. At the sight of Arthur in Harry’s arms, Louis mood picked up and his feet walked him over to his son.
“There’s my boy…happy birthday my little lad!” Louis stroked his little chubby cheek.
Noticing his dad was near, Arthur’s head popped up from Harry’s shoulder and his little hands reached for Louis. “Dada!”.
Louis naturally took Arthur into his arms, placing a sweet kiss onto the mini version of himself’s cheek. “Waw…how are yah one already?”.
“He’s growing too quickly!” Harry agreed, his eyes not moving away from his nephew.
Noticing the little one in her brother’s arms, Lottie appeared wanting to steal a little cuddle with the birthday boy.
“Hello Archie bear!” Lottie made a fuss of her nephew, using Arthur’s nickname. “Happy birthday baby boy!”.
YN excused herself to find her Mum whilst she knew Arthur was in safe hands with Louis and Harry. As she walked around the large family home, greeting family and friend as she passed, she couldn’t help but feel overwhelmed with how much effort her Mum and Jay had gone through for her little boy.
Balloons, banners and every party decoration she could have ever imagined were scattered around. She found her Mum, Gemma and Jay in the kitchen along with Louis other sisters.
“YN…darling, we didn’t know you were here yet!” Anne continued to empty the food onto the serving trays.
“Oh YN you’ve arrived!” Jay noticed her standing in the doorway of the kitchen. “No need to worry about a thing, we’ve got it all under control!”.
“C’mon girls, Arthur’s here!” Gemma spoke to Louis sisters, motioning them to the towards the other room to see their nephew.
YN laughed as Gemma and the younger Tomlinson’s all ran past her, each of them racing to the birthday boy.
“Where Ernie and Doris?” YN asked Jay, noticing that the twins were no where to be seen.
“Dans taken them out for a walk so they can have a nap!” Jay explained.
YN was startled when she felt a hand on her back, as she still stood in the doorway. Turning to the side, she noticed the hand belonged to Louis as he tried to squeeze past her.
For a while there had been some tension between the two. It wasn’t an awkward one but their eyes would linger on each other a bit longer than normal, small innocent touches here and there made them both pause and glance at one and other. YN couldn’t help but notice how Louis would hang around a little longer, after their little one went to sleep, when he came to see Arthur. Or how when Phoebe cheekily held a mistletoe above them last Christmas, as they sat together with Arthur opening presents.
YN had driven over from her Mum’s house on Christmas afternoon so Louis could see Arthur on Christmas. As it was Arthur’s first Christmas, Louis and Jay had gone crazy with gifts.
Louis sat on the floor, with Arthur on his lap, YN by the side on them watching how excited everyone was to see their little one opening his presents.
But Phoebe has sneaked a mistletoe from her Mums decorations, and cheekily stood behind Louis and YN laughing hysterically.
Noticing what Phoebe was up to, Jay, the others girls and their older grandparents couldn’t contain their laughter. Louis shook his head and tried to keep a straight face. YN could feel the redness appearing onto her cheeks.
“Pheebs…c’mon, go and sit down.” Louis tried to take the green decoration from her but failed.
Phoebe still wore a cheeky smirk. “No…you know the rules!”.
“Yeah…you know the rules!” Daisy joined in on teasing her older brother.
“Mum…please tell them!” Louis laughed as he begged his Mum for help.
Jay shrugged her shoulders at her first born. “Sorry love…they’re right, it’s the mistletoe rule.”.
Louis could see YN had her eyes attached to Arthur, not knowing what to do. Louis let out a sigh and quickly peck YN’s cheek to keep his sisters entertained.
“Where’s Arthur?” YN asked him, noticing their son was no where to be seen.
“His Aunties are arguing over him!” Louis laughed as he thought about the scene he just walked away from.
Jay and Anne laughed, knowing how loved their grandson is. “Who’s winning?” Anne asked.
“Harry!” Louis stated, before adding “He’s clinging to Harry, probably hoping the girls will get the hint!”.
“He does love his Uncle Harry.” Jay smiled.
The rest of the afternoon was filled with celebration. Food was consumed, games were played, cards and presents were opened and Arthur was given so much love and attention.
Jay walked into the living area with a circular birthday cake, personalised for Arthur. YN and Louis looked at their now one year old with the biggest smiles, before they both helped him to blow out the candles.
Everyone gathered around, as Louis held Arthur and YN now held the cake in her hands, to sing and celebrate the year they got to love and cherish the little boy.
Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to Arthur, Happy Birthday to you!
Instead of the Styles family driving back home, Jay had offered them all to stay for the evening. Whilst their other families and friends had gone, Anne and Jay enjoyed a much needed glass of wine as they sat down together after a busy few days. Doris and Ernest were fast asleep in their cots, and Louis younger sisters were hanging out in one the girls bedrooms.
Louis had offered to settle Arthur after his bath. He sat in the rocking chair, his Mum used for the twins, with Arthur drinking his bottle of milk whilst cuddled up in his arms. YN stood quietly watching from outside the room, admiring the scene in front of her. A precious father and son moment.
“Hey…you alright?”. Harry interrupted her thoughts as he spoke quietly.
“Yeah…m’fine”. YN whispered back, not wanting to disturb Louis and Arthur.
“You look like you’re in your own head a lot lately.” Harry had watched his sister for the last few weeks, noticing how she was always deep in thought or spaced out.
YN only shrugged her shoulders. “It’s nothing.”.
“Which means it’s something.” Harry argued. “C’mon tell me!”.
YN thought about it, she told Harry most things. He wasn’t one to judge or make her feel guilty for having these feelings. “It’s just…I don’t know…when I was younger, I always imagined having a family but I didn’t ever think that my baby would have two separate homes.”.
Harry took YN’s words in, trying to understand them. He looked to Louis who was still cuddling Arthur to sleep, “You never gave Louis a chance…it doesn’t have to be this way if you let your walls down a bit.”.
There was no harshness in Harry’s comment, YN knew he was being honest. She did put her walls up, especially after she found out she was pregnant. “I don’t want to get hurt…and I don’t want to jeopardise your friendship with Louis.”.
Harry couldn’t hide his smirk as he joked. “I mean you’ve had a baby together…I think we’re past that point.”.
YN watched as Harry walked down the stairs, leaving her with her own thoughts. YN had a decision to make.

Oh I’m sure they’ll meet at some point (Freddie and his baby cousin) people are speculating that Lottie may have told Louis at Christmas. I’m not sure if that’s true or how far along she is but it’s a sweet thought. Yeah Jay would have been overjoyed. Larries are being gross as expected, it’s taking a lot of will power to not kick their asses. Anyway no matter what Freddie will always be the first grandchild and was so loved by his Nanny. I’m sure Louis is delighted to be an Uncle and the new baby when they arrive will be very loved and treasured by their family. Also Eleanor will be an Aunt too! If not legally then at least in spirit. Eleanor has always been loved by Louis’ siblings so I’m sure she’ll be considered an Aunt to Lottie’s baby.

according to phoebe lottie told her about pregnancy at xmas - but since she said 'no one else knew', not sure when louis exactly got the news himself. either way I'm sure he's surely overjoyed at becoming an uncle!
And yes, Jay would've been so happy!

Title: #MyFamily Author: Star Word Count: 2,827 Pairing: Louis/Harry Summary: Louis, her pregnant wife Harry, and Louis’ sisters do a #MyCalvins photo shoot.
Read here on AO3  |  Ko-Fi
“How does it feel to be a part of the biggest lesbian photoshoot that Calvin Klein has ever done?”
Louis barely stops herself from rolling her eyes. “It’s not a lesbian shoot when there’s only two lesbians, one bisexual girl, and three other straight girls.” There that’ll show them. “Yes this is the most people who are openly gay in the same shoot that I can remember, but there are bound to be others.”
The interviewer, Tammy, or something, jots something down in her notebook. She’s interviewing Louis while Louis is getting her hair and makeup done for said shoot. It’s actually a Tomlinson family photo shoot. The twins wanted to do something after they turned eighteen, and when Harry had made the enquiry, everything just fell into place.
Tammy gets up and leaves, satisfied with whatever she managed to get from Louis’ answers. She doesn’t particularly like the woman. There was just something about her that rubbed Louis up the wrong way. She’s already interviewed Harry, and she just has Lottie and Félicité left to interview now, Louis thinks.
Félicité and Lottie are over the other side, getting their hair done, and Harry is around here somewhere. Louis would be worried, but she’s been having to use the loo a lot more since she’s entered her last trimester. This is baby number three for them and Louis couldn’t be more excited.
It wasn’t just Daisy and Phoebe who wanted to do this shoot, Louis did, too. Each time Harry had been pregnant, they had done some kind of advertising campaign that showed off Harry’s beautiful pregnant belly, and this time couldn’t be any different. Sure, they had done their usual maternity photo shoot, but they had done that for their first two children as well.
Her daughter appears a moment later, as if thinking about her children made one of them materialise out of nowhere. Louis looks over when she hears Leah’s particularly noisy squeal. She’s as loud as Louis is when she wants to be. She absolutely loves it.
“Mama!” Leah says, barrelling towards Louis at the speed only a five year old can achieve.
“What are you up to? Where’s your sister?”
“Daphne is with Mummy,” Leah says, climbing up onto the chair that Louis is sitting in. She snuggles in close, her fingers curling around the edge of the robe Louis is wearing.
Their stylist and beauty teams are thankfully used to dealing with toddlers and children, and Louis barely notices any difference. Leah plays with Louis’ hands, stroking over her freshly polished nails.
“Mama, I’m tired,” Leah says, leaning heavily into Louis’ chest. “Can we go home now?”
“We only just got here, sweetheart,” Louis replies. “Grandma Jay will be here soon, you love spending time with her.”
Leah nods and yawns. She slumps harder against Louis. Within seconds, she’s out like a light. Louis gently pushes Leah’s brown curly hair out of her face. She looks so like her Mummy that it makes Louis’ heart ache. She loves this little girl in her arms more than life itself.
“I’ve got her.” Louis looks up to see her mum, looking fresh faced and happy. It warms Louis’ heart.
“Thanks, Mum,” she says. Jay carefully scoops Leah up into her arms, cuddling her close as she wanders from the dressing room to another area. Louis hopes that Leah isn’t getting sick. She doesn’t want that for her poor baby.
“Mum’s here,” Harry says as she wanders back into the dressing room. She sits down next to Louis in the chair she’d vacated earlier. “She took Daphne with her.”
“My mum is here, too,” Louis replies. “Leah’s asleep. I hope she’s not coming down with something.”
“She didn’t have a good night last night,” Harry says, angling herself to face Louis a little more. She reaches out and presses her bare foot against Louis’, the only part of them that can really touch at the moment.
“How come I didn’t know?” Louis asks.
“Because you and Daphne were fast asleep in her room,” Harry replies. “Before you came to bed, she was up with me a fair bit.”
“Sorry, love,” Louis apologises. She reaches out with her hand to take Harry’s, squeezing it gently. “I didn’t mean to fall asleep with Daphne. She was being fussy.”
“I get it, honey.”
They finish getting primped and preened, and are all too soon heading into the studio to start the shoot. There’s a massive bed set up in one section, and Louis figures that’s for her and Harry’s solo stuff. She knew there was going to be some ‘casual lying about’ but a bed seems far from casual to her.
Next to her, Harry winces. Immediately, Louis wraps her arm around Harry’s back.
“Alright, love?”
Harry nods. “Yeah,” she replies. “She’s just kicking. She’s going to be a footie player if my insides are anything to go by.”
Louis smiles. She can’t help it. Harry said the same about both Daphne and Leah when she was pregnant with them.
“C’mon, let’s go find you somewhere to sit down.”
“Right this way, Mrs and Mrs Tomlinson,” someone says, appearing out of nowhere. Louis blinks and follows the bright, dyed red haired woman that shows them to a comfortable looking loveseat. Harry immediately sits down and sighs. She rests her hands on her stomach and closes her eyes.
“I might have a kip if I’m sitting here for too long.”
“Sleep if you want to,” Louis says. “I’ll see when we’re up.”
“One sec,” Harry says. “Kissy.” Louis grins, unable to resist. She doesn’t care for their freshly done make-up, if her wife wants a kiss, she’ll get a kiss.
Their lips press together, softly, as Harry is probably thinking about their lipstick, too. But it’s enough to make Louis smile against Harry’s lips.
“Love you.”
“Love you too,” Harry agrees. Her eyes flutter closed again. Louis gets up and wanders over to the photographer’s assistant. She pulls the youngish looking boy aside and asks when they’re up.
“Umm,” he mumbles, thumbing through the papers attached to his clipboard. “You and Mrs Tomlinson are up first, and then it’s the whole family shoot.”
Louis nods. She turns her back on him and looks around at the set, taking everything in. There’s not much in the way of props – it’s an underwear shoot, after all, but there’s a few fun looking things that she knows Daisy and Phoebe will really get into.
Before too long, Louis is making her way back over to Harry. She’ll just stay here with her wife until they’re called to the set to start. Harry looks so peaceful sleeping, Louis thinks. Something that she’s not been getting much of lately. Not with a five year old and a two and a half year old running around the house. And not with being almost eight months pregnant, either. But they manage, and that’s what matters. Louis knows that their girls are cared for, are loved, and have a happy and healthy life, which is what any parent could want for their children.
Despite the fact that they’re where they are, Louis is glad that Harry is getting some rest. She knows that Harry’s ability to fall asleep anywhere is left over from their touring days where the days and nights never seemed to end. She knows that at the time, it was everything they dreamt of, but looking back, she knows that there are definitely things she would change.
So she lets Harry sleep.
Until they’re called to the set, that is.
“Love,” Louis says softly, reaching over and resting her hand on top of Harry’s on Harry’s stomach. She rubs over the bump that holds their baby and spares a moment to just marvel. “C’mon, love, wake up.”
Harry’s eyes flutter open and she smacks her lips. It’s adorable. Louis loves her so much. “Hmm?”
Louis smiles softly. “C’mon, love, we’ve got a shoot to do.”
“Help me up?” she asks. Louis helps her up and steadies her on her feet. Thankfully they’re completely barefoot for this shoot. Louis knows that Harry’s feet have decided to swell more with this pregnancy, and she has trouble even with her own, worn in shoes, let alone anything else.
They’re directed where to go, how to pose, and how to look at the camera. It’s old hat to Louis, who is used to this. Harry is, too, but she’s a little grumpier than usual because of the lack of sleep. Louis gets it. She hates that Harry hasn’t been sleeping well, and to know that she was up half of the night with Leah doesn’t make things any better.
“…we’ll just Photoshop those out.”
Louis tunes back in as a thunderous expression takes over Harry’s face. They’re standing for this part, Harry’s robe completely gone, and they’re just in their underwear. Louis’ hands are on Harry’s stomach from behind, and she had lost herself in the moment, but now she’s regretting losing focus because that is Harry’s very angry expression.
“Is my pregnant body too disgusting for your shoot?” she asks, hands on her hips.
Louis bites her tongue, watching the scene unfold in front of her.
“Well?”
There’s no response from anyone.
“You are not editing out my stretch marks!” Harry exclaims loudly. “This body has gone through three pregnancies and two births so far, and I will wreak havoc on everything you love if you so much as dare suggest editing out my stretch marks ever again! Have I made myself clear?”
“Yes, Mrs Tomlinson.”
“Good,” Harry says, apparently appeased. “I’m taking a break. Someone fetch me an ice water? I need to sit down.”
Inappropriately turned on, Louis is helpless but to follow Harry back to the sofa she was sitting on before. A footstool appears from god knows where, and Harry props her feet up. A frosty glass of water is also handed to Harry, and one to Louis, and Harry sips at hers happily.
“Was I too mean?” she asks after a moment, turning her gaze to Louis.
“Not at all, love. You’re one hundred percent right. We’re not doing this shoot if they want to edit out any of your stretch marks.”
Harry sniffs a little. “Thank you.”
“Always, love,” Louis replies, gently knocking her glass against Harry’s own. “If they had done that without your permission, I would’ve flipped.”
“I know you would have,” Harry says. “And that’s why I love you.”
Louis grins at her. She leans over and gently kisses Harry on the lips. “How’s our little pumpkin doing in there?” she asks, nodding at Harry’s stomach. “Is she giving you trouble still?”
Harry shakes her head. “Not at the moment. She likes her Mama’s voice too much.”
Heat floods Louis’ cheeks. “Well,” she begins. She coughs, clearing her throat. “When we get home, I’ll give you a foot rub and I’ll sing to her so hopefully you’ll get some sleep tonight.”
A smile blooms across Harry’s face. “I’d love that. Thank you.”
Louis kisses her again. Lipstick be damned.
The next half of their shoot is with Louis’ sisters. This is the fun half of the shoot, as far as the props go. They’re still inside, because the weather outside wasn’t cooperating today, but there are huge beach balls, a pregnancy ball for Harry to sit on, there are an array of little props ranging from cute hats to little pom-poms that she knows Doris would absolutely love if she were here.
It’s definitely not the usual run of the mill Calvin Klein underwear shoot, that’s for sure. Which was one of the stipulations made. Sure, they were all going to lie around in the CK underwear and jeans, but they wanted to have fun with it, too, not just look at the camera and pout like so many other celebrities and models do.
Harry sits on the ball and laughs. Louis loves that sound. She could listen to that sound for the rest of her life and never grow tired of it. The twins throw one of the beach balls to each other while Félicité sits near Harry, waving the pom-poms in the air. Louis picks up the smaller of the two beach balls and calls out Lottie’s name before throwing it to her, almost catching her by surprise. She laughs, holding it up in the air to throw it back at Louis, who barely dodges her surprisingly accurate aim.
They’re so busy having fun that they don’t even realise that this portion of the shoot is over until they’re called to reset. Félicité helps Harry up off the ball and steadies her as Louis closes the distance between them.
“I think this one is us lying around now,” Félicité says. “So you’ll be able to stay off your feet at least.”
“Thank goodness,” Harry grumbles, rubbing her lower back. “My feet are killing me today.”
Their make-up is retouched and a scared looking assistant hands Harry another cold glass of water, which she happily accepts, sipping delicately from the bright pink straw.
“We’re almost done,” Lottie says as she approaches. She gives them a soft smile and Louis slings an arm around her sister’s shoulders.
“This has been fun,” she says, taking in all of her sister’s happy expressions. “I can’t wait to see what the end result is.”
“Me too,” Daisy says as she joins them. Phoebe wanders over a second later, and soon, Louis is surrounded by almost all of her favourite women.
“This campaign is going to be featured everywhere,” Harry says. “Me and my huge pregnant belly will be plastered all over the place. God, why did I agree to this?”
“Because you look absolutely gorgeous pregnant,” Louis says, moving to wrap her arms around Harry so she can lean into Louis. “And you’re excited to see what this ends up like, no matter what you’re saying now.”
“I know,” Harry says with a sigh. “I’m just grumpy because my feet are sore.”
Louis leans in and kisses the side of Harry’s neck. “That foot rub can turn into something more tonight, if you like,” she whispers seductively. “Mum has already taken Leah and Daphne home.”
Harry grins, turning to face Louis. She kisses her softly on the lips. “That ‘something more’ better include feeding me ice cream.”
“Anything you want, love,” Louis replies sincerely.
“Good. Let’s get this over with, then.”
And that’s that, they do the last part of the photo shoot, and then it’s over.
Several weeks later, Louis is doing some last minute shopping with Harry before their daughter is born. She looks up and sees her face staring back at her via a huge hanging poster in the underwear section that she can clearly see from her spot closer to the entrance of the shop. There are several others hanging around the underwear section, too, including the group photo of them just lying about in their underwear.
The hashtags on the lower border of the poster are the standard #MyCalvins and then one specifically for their shoot #MyFamily. It makes Louis grin. That’s her family and she loves every single one of them so much.
“Our ad is out, love,” she says to Harry, who is looking at yet another pair of booties.
“Hmm?” Harry hums, turning to face Louis. Louis sees her putting the booties in their shopping trolley, but she doesn’t call Harry out on it.
“Our Calvin Klein advert,” Louis says, nodding her head to where the posters are.
“Oh, that’s nice,” Harry says. She pushes the trolley closer, presumably to have a better look.
Louis stands back and admires the solo one of Harry, in all her pregnant glory. It brings an instant smile to Louis’ face.
“And they didn’t even edit out your stretch marks!” Louis exclaims happily.
Harry takes a photo of the poster, presumably to put on social media later, and then turns to face Louis. “Good. Our girls are going to see this. They need to know that bodies like theirs exist – that stretch marks are a real part of growing up and your body changing.”
“They’ll know, love,” Louis says fondly. She kisses Harry softly, overwhelmed with affection for her wife.
She turns back to the posters, proud of her family for doing such an awesome ad campaign.

“I didn’t think you could get any less romantic…”
“I didn’t think you could get any less romantic…”
Niall rollshis eyes but Harry can see it. It’s not like he’s hiding his displeasure forthis situation, Harry or anything related to this wedding. And Harry ispatient, he has to be, it’s his job after all. He has dealt with these kind ofpeople enough times before to know how to make them participate, but Niall’scynicism is really getting on his nerves.
Harry hasworked with frat-boys as the best mans that seem to find everything to be ajoke, but after some chats alone, they would break in tears telling him howmuch they love their friend and how proud they are of them. He has deal withbridesmaid’s in love with the groom and has stopped disasters more times thathe can count, he’s had alcoholic fathers, long-lost relatives, wedding crashersand even animals in the equations, but conversations are not working with Niall. He barely listens to him but nods at the right times to pretend to be payingattention. It’s exasperating, almost like he’s trying to sabotage this wedding.
He playsaround, never listens to Harry and eats the testing food but gives zero reviewsabout it. He even finished all the glasses of wine before Eleanor could evenget to the venue the first couple of weeks of the wedding planning. But then, there are other times when Harry finds him sitting alone, looking at the wall, absorbed in his own mind until he would heard Harry walk in and proceed to makefun of his shoes or shirts even if he has the exact items according to thephotos Louis gave to him for the wedding album.
And it’sfrustrating because the first time Harry saw him, he took his breath away withthat strong chin and those beautiful blue eyes, especially with that wide smilewhen he kissed Eleanor’s cheek and hugged Louis longer than necessary. Hewasn’t gonna do anything about it. Harry is a professional and the onlyconnection he has with these people is the fact that he’s the wedding planner –even if they have actually become friends in the last six months –, he wasn’t goingto act based on attraction, but that wasn’t necessary the moment the two ofthem were left alone and Niall wouldn’t even let Harry finish with his ideasfor the reception when he sarcastically laughed at him and looked at his phonefor the rest of the hours they had scheduled.
“What areyou talking about, mate?” Niall laughs, holding Lottie’s hand and making her spina couple of times. “I’m not gonna be romantic with Tommo’s little sister.”
Charlottefrowns and slaps him on the arm, Harry wishes he could do that too.
“The onlything you have to do is walk her by the arm to the altar and split in differentdirections, Niall.” Harry says, holding onto the last bit of self-control hehas, otherwise, he would explode. “We’ve been trying to do this for the lastforty minutes, everyone would appreciate it if you stop fooling around andstart to cooperate.”
Niall turnshis head to see the rest of the best men and bridesmaid looking at their phonesand chatting with each other, obviously trying to prove Harry wrong. He sighsand Niall smirks, like he enjoys making Harry suffer. This is the leastfavorite part of his job, when Harry and his mom decided to open awedding-planning business they thought everything would be a daily display oflove and happiness, but the things he had seen, the things he had heard, thepeople he has met. Not everything is flowers and rainbows and most people justwant a beautiful wedding instead of a meaningful marriage.
Harry isabout to pull his own hair out when Louis and Eleanor walk in, holding hands, smiling like they’re just three months in of his relationship and Harry thinksthey may be his favorite couple so far. Niall is looking at them as well, witha big smile on his face and holding Lottie by the arm, walking her down thealtar just like Harry indicated an hour ago. The rest of the bridesmaids andbest men follow their steps.
“How’severything going?” Louis asks, letting Eleanor on the other side of the room ashe walks and stands next to Niall.
“Wonderfully.”Niall says, pretentious tone in his voice as he looks at Harry. “Our friendHarold here is doing an amazing job.”
Louissmiles at him and Harry nods in return, because even if Niall is not sincere,Louis is, and that’s enough for him, he’s the one that truly matters, not thestupid prick that the best man is, at least only with him because he seems totransform when any other person is around, especially Anne, Harry’s mom, whoseems to love him and laughs at him every time Harry complains about the Irishman.
Eleanorwalks down the aisle, making faces at Louis as he looks at the floor to keephimself from laughing but Niall is right there, sending kisses and she pretendsto catch them. How is that someone this sweet can behave like an asshole mostof the time? Harry will never know the answer.
Therehearsal ends forty minutes later than Harry anticipated, giving them only twohours to change for the dinner rehearsal at the other salon in the hotel.Lottie and Sophia drag Harry to the hallway out of the room and they give him ahard drive with the presentation they made for Eleanor to be played at thedinner later, Harry nods and puts it in his pocket to check it when he gets inhis room.
He reminds eachperson that dinner is at 8 o’clock asthey leave the room, and of course, Niall is still inside, maybe he knows Harryhas to close the room and give the key to the Hotel’s manager and he just wantshim to wait longer.
Harry opensthe door and finds him facing the window wall, looking somewhere down the city.He clears his throat to make him notice his presence but he’s doing that thingagain when he zones out and everything else disappears around him. Harry findshim annoying, but for some reason, this time it feels sad.
“I have toclose the room,” he tries again, and Niall seems to wake up, blinkingrepeatedly as he turns to face Harry.
“Yeah,sorry.”
He takeshis jacket from the back of one of the chairs piled at the end of the room andleaves. And that’s the nicest thing he has said to Harry yet.

Harry isstanding in a corner of the salon, laughing as he looks at the pics of Eleanorand Louis’ sisters in the projector. It’s a good thing after the tears everyoneshared after the twins played the video their mom left for Louis and Eleanorbecause she knew they were gonna end up together, eventually. Harry thought itwas better to play it the day after tomorrow, the actual day of the wedding. But they begged saying they could play it at the wedding too and he couldn’tsay no.
It wasworth it, the way everyone held their breath when her face showed up in theprojector and she started speaking.
Louis, my beautiful boy…
And hecried but Niall was there to hold him and Eleanor kissed him. The things hismother said, the love in her eyes and his voice, made Harry cry too, feelingincredibly grateful to have his mom with him. The room was silent until thechildhood photos popped up and everyone started laughing.
Louis waskissing his sisters, with the little ones on each leg as they wiped up thetears on his face and laughed about memories they don’t have, Eleanor holdinghis hand. It’s a beautiful picture and Harry is so happy he can witness it.
“You shouldhave warned me about Jay’s video.”
Harryjumps, spilling some of the champagne on the floor and curses, hoping it won’tlighten up the wood of the floor. He turns to his right finding Niall in ablack suit, looking gorgeous with his red nose and red eyes.
“Phoebecame to me asking for permission. I didn’t see it until now.” He answers andNiall nods, rubbing his eyes and Harry wants to take his hands off it so hewon’t hurt himself.
“It wasperfect. Louis’ biggest regret is his mom missing his wedding. They weren’ttogether when his mom…” Niall clears his throat and now it’s Harry’s turn tonod, letting him know that he is listening, “with that video, somehow, it’slike…”
“She’shere.” Harry finishes for him because his voice is trembling. Niall nods again.
“The placelooks incredible.” Niall says, looking at the chandelier over their heads andthe decoration of the tables.
“Do I haveyour approval now?” Harry says sarcastically.
“You’re notthat lucky.” Niall winks at him, walking to the bar and Harry wishes he doesn’tlook as red as his face feels.
*
“It’sfunny.” Eleanor says as she hands Louis a glass of champagne.
He smilesat her, like the moon itself is on her eyes and backs up the chair so she cansit on his lap, and she does so, gracefully. “What is?”
“How Nialllooks like a lost puppy whenever Harry is around.” She laughs and points to theother side of the room where Niall is playing with Ernest while stealingglances of Harry organizing the waitresses.
Louislaughs too, loud and hard and full of joy. It’s a good day, he has his futurewife with him, his son will be arriving any time tomorrow and his best friendseems to be remember how life can be if you let things go.
“Poorthing, it’s been a while since he liked someone.” Eleanor takes a sip of herdrink and Louis snuggles her closer.
“It’sgetting better,” Louis sighs, “He’s been more talkative and he’s actually beencontributing the last couple of weeks with the wedding thing.”
Eleanornods, kissing Louis in the cheek, suddenly remembering a similar situation twoyears ago. Niall looked so happy at this rehearsal dinner, greeting all of hisfamily, laughing with his friends of college, introducing his brother’s son toeveryone. Louis wanted to tell him about the engagement in that moment, butEleanor wanted to wait so they wouldn’t take the spotlight off them. And it wasa good thing they did.
Sometimes,Eleanor thinks that she should have ended things at the rehearsal dinner. Couldhave been simpler. It doesn’t matter what Niall or Louis say, she hates herbecause she stole Niall from a lot of things and then, left him there withoutnothing other than pain. And yeah, she was there when she met Niall but he washer friend, not her.
“I justwant him to be happy.” Eleanor sighs, looking at Niall across the room. He’snot fully looking at Harry with the same expression he had when they first met.Speechless but also annoyed, like he doesn’t want to be attracted to him butHarry is not making it easy for him, being all charming and cute all the time.
“He’sgetting there!” Louis says, confident. Pointing at Niall debating on going Harry’sdirection or coming to talk to the couple. Louis nods in his direction andNiall rolls his eyes, trying to hide his face behind his drink.
“Rememberthe first time he saw Harry?” Eleanor laughs in Louis’ ear, resting her arm onhis shoulder. Louis laughs, nodding again. “He literally had his mouth open.”
“And thentried to ignore him for the rest of the day,” Niall takes some steps at thedistance, stopping to talk to some people on his way but his eyes never leaveHarry.
“We shouldgive Harry a bonus for bringing Niall to the real world,” Eleanor smiles, blowing kisses at Niall every time he turns to them, like looking for approval,“I didn’t even know he was ready for dating again.”
“I don’tthink he was, but Harry didn’t give him a choice, did he?” Louis says, lookingat Eleanor for what seems to be the first time the whole night. They have beenbusy, but not in a stressful way – thanks to Harry – in a lovable tired kind ofway, like a long day after hiking or touring a new city. They’re excited.
“It’s socute when Niall gets frustrated and mad because he doesn’t know how to handlehimself,” She smiles, tenderly, “like when he got drunk with the testing winebecause he couldn’t talk to Harry like a normal person.” Eleanor finishes herglass of champagne and leaves it on the table. “Poor Harry, he has to put upwith a lot.”
“All theflirting he knows goes back to when he was fifteen, remember?” Louis finisheshis glass as well, putting it next to Eleanor’s.
They seeNiall walking to Harry now and maybe he’s a little too drunk by the way hissteps seem to go sideways but when he’s finally behind him, he takes his wristand stars walking out of the salon. Harry struggles a but until he realizeswho’s dragging him and walks with him.
“Oh, damn.”Eleanor whispers.
*
“If youweren’t so fucking corny I’d have made out with your face long ago.” Niallbreathes right over his lips as he tries to unbutton his pants.
Harrylaughs, slapping his hands out of his hips, making him whimper but he doesn’tgive him time to complain when he leans in for another kiss.
His head isfuzzy and his moves are slow for all the champagne he had as the night movedalong. One minute he was alone at the bar, drinking as everyone started leavingto go to their rooms and the next thing he knows, Niall is dragging him to the washroomwith his hand on his pants.
The kissturns slow and Niall makes these little sounds that are driving Harry crazy. His hands are now in Harry’s hair, pulling, rubbing, pressing. And it feelsgood, too good to think clearly. So he starts walking to the faucet untilNiall’s ass hits the sink and he jumps to sit on it, getting his pants wet andhissing about it.
Harrystarts leaving kisses from his cheek to his neck and a voice in the back of hismind is counting all the reasons why this is a bad idea but Niall’s legs aroundhis waist makes him forget them all.
“You lookso hot in that suit.” Niall moans in his ear and he wants to say the same thingbut his knees hit the floor and Niall doesn’t let him talk anymore.
*
Harry hasbeen busy enough to keep him from thinking about how Niall seems to be avoidinghim now. His mom came along to help him to check the food and the flowers, theguest list, the security guys and the decoration of both salons in the Hotel. She’s also helping Eleanor and the girls get ready so Harry has enough time totake a shower and get ready for the ceremony.
He haseverything planned by schedule and all is going according to it. What hedoesn’t expect is someone knocking at his door two hours before the wedding. He’s buttoning his shirt when he opens the door and finds Niall in his blue suit, one hand in the pocket and his eyes on the floor.
“Hey.”Harry says, unsure.
“I needyour help.” Niall says, and he sounds so little.
Harry stepsin, letting Niall walk into his room. He wants to reach for him but somewheredeep down he knows Niall doesn’t feel the same way and it’s fine, Harry hasbeen in this situation enough to know what’s coming.
“I can’tfind the rings.” Niall says, and that wasn’t what he was waiting for.
“What?!”
Harry nevershouts, he likes to talk slow and tender, phrasing his words so it would matchhis thoughts and most people find it exasperating but they have grown used toit, so it doesn’t only surprise Niall when he screams, Harry’s own heartbeat isrising at an incredible speed.
“I don’tremember much from last night but it wasn’t on the shelf next to my bed where Ileft them before going to the club and my room is already upside down and Ican’t focus with all the mess…” Niall is talking fast and moving his hands andHarry would be worried if he wasn’t so mad.
“Are youtrying to ruin this wedding?!” He asks, making Niall looks up, “Are you in lovewith Louis or Eleanor or something?!”
Niallfrowns and he’s ready to hit Harry on the face but he stops with his fist inthe air, controlling his breathing as he sits on the bed, holding his head inhis hands.
“Just helpme find the fucking rings and I’ll be out of your sight.”
*
Harry feelslike he can finally breathe when Louis and Eleanor exchange an I do and kiss. The rings were in thefridge in Niall’s room next to the empty bottles of alcohol. They didn’t sayanything after they found them. Harry just left the room and went to the firstfloor for the final touches.
It’s been acouple of hours and everyone seems to be having fun. Eleanor looks perfect inwhite dancing with Louis’ sister and a beautiful smile on her face. Sophia isdancing with one of the best man, Liam, and maybe they’ll end up together againjust like Lottie planned all along.
An armfalls over his shoulders and he finds Louis at his side holding a pint andlooking at his wife holding his son, spinning around, making Briana laugh asshe waits for her turn to dance with Freddie again. He looks happy and thatsatisfies Harry in an incredible measure.
“Thank youfor all of this.” Louis says and Harry smiles, nodding.
“I hate tosay that’s my job.” Harry mumbles. “I want to say something like you’re myfriend and-”
“Hey!”Louis laugh, slapping the back of his head. “We’re family now, curly.”
Harryblushes and looks at the floor. He didn’t want to say goodbye to these people, maybe he doesn’t have to.
“And I knowNiall has been a pain in the ass, I’m not blind.” Now he’s looking at Niall atthe bar, drinking another whisky a sip at a time. “He hasn’t always been likethis, I promise.”
There’ssomething in his voice, like a flicker of sadness down his throat that he’sbeen trying to let go, but it’s still there.
“Wepostponed the wedding a year, you know?” Louis says, eyes still on Niall.
Harryfrowns, turning half of his body to look at Louis eye to eye. “Why?”
“He wasleft at the altar two years ago by the girl he was in love with since he wasfifteen.” Harry’s mouth opens and his eyes travel to where Niall is sitting, looking at his empty glass. “We were gonna announce the good news at the party, but Niall was so broken, we couldn’t…”
Harry nods,understanding.
“He avoidedevery social event after that, all of his friends know this girl so it wasalmost impossible not to walk into her and her new boyfriend.” Louis sighs, “Wedecided to wait until he was ready to leave his bed and put a smile on his facefor us.”
He wants tosay something, he wants to walk to Niall and apologize and maybe hug him, if heallows it. Maybe it’s written all over his face because Louis laughs and hisarm falls from his shoulders and he pushes him to Niall’s direction.
“The smilehe has when you’re around.” Louis points at Niall, “I haven’t seen that one ina while.”
*
“Hey,”Harry says, sitting in the empty sit next to Niall.
He doesn’tlook up, he doesn’t acknowledge his presence. He just drinks and lets the glasshit the table loud enough to make Harry shiver.
“I want toapologize,” he says, slowly, “I’m so sorry, Niall…”
But helaughs, strong and rough, turning to Harry, giving him goosebumps.
“Did Tommo spillthe beans?” Harry looks down and that’s all the confirmation Niall needs. “Idon’t need your pity.”
“I don’t pityyou.” Harry puts a hand on his arm and his chest gets warm when Niall doesn’t throwhim off. “Everyone deals with their own shit. I just seem to have forgottenthat.”
Niallshakes his head, looking at Harry’s hand on his arm and he puts his own handover it before Harry could move it.
“There’s noexcuse for the way I’ve been treating you.” He clears his throat, looking upwith his red teary eyes. “I’m just afraid, I don’t know what I’m doing anymore.I’m sorry.” He smiles.
Harry nods, smiling as well. “Maybe we can star over after this wedding is over.”
“What aboutnow?” Niall says, squinting.
“That’salso a good idea.”

Practical Magic, 2/?
previous installment here
By the time Louis gets out of the house a few hours later, she's definitely glad to be doing so. She apologized to Lottie for blowing out her candles, but she could tell that Lottie wasn't really ready to forgive her just yet.
It figured that when Louis actually tried to step up and be a good role model and follow the rules it would blow up in her face. In retrospect, perhaps she should've been a bit nicer to Lottie. It'd been over a month since the incident with the fire in the dining room, and they still hadn't actually figured out what had happened or who'd done it. Lottie swore up and down that she had nothing to do with it, but Louis still wasn't sure if she believed her.
Perhaps a bit of time away from her sister was a good idea.
It was a bit of a trek, getting from their house to town, but Louis didn't mind. She liked the seclusion that their house afforded them; it usually kept away all the nosy tourists looking to catch a glimpse of a witch.
Louis had spent her whole life in this town and it was small enough that she knew just about everyone, and they all knew her. It was hard not to know any of the Tomlinson coven, to be honest. It's not like they kept their witchery a secret, far from it. There was no reason to.
They never performed any animal sacrifices or dabbled in any dark magic. Louis' mum was known throughout the town as a healer, and considering the closest doctor with an actual medical license lived three towns over, it was far easier to just trek up the hill to the Tomlinson house for cures for minor illnesses.
Louis and her mum and sisters were genuinely well-liked by everyone. The only odd looks they ever had to endure were from the occasional tourist, and even those were few and far between because it's not as though they all walked around in black dresses and pointy hats. There was no need to draw unnecessary attention.
That isn't to say they haven't had a few hiccups in the past, especially as the girls grow older and learn to harness their unique talents. While Jay's strengths lay in the magic of healing, Louis had a predilection for love spells and potions. She could very easily make people become infatuated with others, sometimes without meaning to, which led to a couple of awkward situations that Jay had to take care of.
Although, Louis still hasn't been able to master any sort of love spell that works in her own favor. As the years go by, she's beginning to wonder if she's not supposed to find love for herself, only to help others find it.
Unlike Louis, both Lottie's and Fizzy's talents derive from what one might call the more traditional side of witchcraft: divination and herbalism, respectively. Lottie can neither read minds nor correctly predict the future, but it certainly doesn't stop her from trying. And as far as Fizzy is concerned, she'd probably sleep in the garden if their mum would let her.
As for the twins, Daisy and Phoebe, their talents have yet to reveal themselves. But, according to Jay, they're growing ever closer to the age at which most young witches learn where their talents truly lie. Louis just hopes it's nothing too destructive or intrusive, to be quite honest. The twins are rambunctious enough as it is without bringing magic into the mix.
She smiles widely at the several townsfolk she passes on her way to the shop in the center of town. They all smile in return, and a few even greet her by name. She doesn't stop to chat, and it's not necessarily because she's on a mission for her mum.
Louis strides into the shop and immediately heads for the counter at the back, happy to see that there's no one else waiting in line so she can waltz right up. She slaps her hand against the bell resting on the countertop even though it was entirely unnecessary. Judging by the look on Harry's face as he turns around, he knew it was her before the bell even stopped.
"Harold!" she says with a wide, toothy grin. "How's my favorite shop boy?"
"Tired," he replies with a soft sigh. "And you banging on that bell doesn't help."
"But you know I love to ring the bell," she says. He rolls his eyes as she juts out her bottom lip in an exaggerated pout. "It's one of my simple pleasures in life."
"Yeah, yeah." Even when Harry tries to sound exasperated with her, he can't manage it well enough to be convincing. Louis knows she's just too charming for anyone to stay mad at her for too long (her sisters notwithstanding, of course).
"Louis!"
Louis turns at the sound of her name to see the shop owner, Bernard, coming towards her with a warm smile nearly hidden under his moustache. She smiles in return, leaning back and resting her elbows on the counter behind her.
"Come for your order?"
"Yes!" she answers. "Someone wasn't being very helpful." She nods her head towards Harry in an exaggerated manner, but the smile doesn't fade from Bernard's face so she knows he isn't taking her seriously.
"I'll be sure to reprimand him," Bernard says, playing into her joke as he walks past her and opens the door to the right of the counter. "Dock his pay, at the very least."
"Ought to give him twenty lashes too, so he really learns his lesson." Louis turns back around and flutters her eyelashes at Harry, who's glaring at her as he tries not to smile.
"Will you ever stop trying to get me sacked?" he asks with a huff.
"Probably," she replies. "Y'know, when it actually works."
"Then what'll you do? You'll have no one to flirt with but Bernard."
"Excuse me, Harold. I am not flirting with you."
"Sure, you're not." Harry winks in the most ridiculous manner and Louis can't help but laugh.
"You're an idiot," she declares just as Bernard comes up next to Harry with a bag in his hand.
"Here we are," he says as he sets it down on the counter. "Shall I go through it?"
"Nah," Louis says as she reaches out for it. "I trust you. Besides, if anything's missing I'll just hex you."
She smiles brightly as both Bernard and Harry laugh; it's an empty threat they've heard many a time. Louis would never actually hex anyone.
"Tell your mum I said hello, will you?" Bernard asks. Louis nods.
"I will. S'pose I'd better get going, before Mum sends one of the others to look for me." Louis rolls her eyes.
"Run along, Louis." Harry waves his hand at her and Louis swipes at it. "Some of us have work to do."
"Shut up, Harold. Bye, Bernard!"
Louis tucks the bag under her arm as she strides to the front of the store and through the doors, getting halfway through the town centre before she catches the edge of a conversation that piques her interest.
"No, I'm telling you, it's the truth!"
"It can't be, why would another witch come to our town?"
Louis had already slowed down to eavesdrop, but the mention of the word witch has her full on stopping mid-step. She carefully turns her head to the left to see a group of older women near the market, and not a single one of them have noticed that Louis is nearby. In an effort to not be conspicuous, Louis ducks behind a nearby tree and strains to listen to their conversation.
"I didn't say I knew why," one of the women is saying, "I'm just telling you what I've heard."
"Well, where'd you hear it from?" another woman demands. "Because I don't know if I trust your information, not after--"
"That was entirely different," the woman from before cuts in. "How was I to know that--"
"Now, please, don't start that again," a gentle voice interrupts and Louis peeks around the tree trunk to double-check that her ears aren't playing tricks on her. She thinks she knows that voice and as she spots its owner, she finds out she's right: it's Harry's mum, Anne. "What about Jay? Has anyone spoken to her about it?"
"Well, no," the first woman replies, sounding a little ashamed. "But I have it on good authority that--"
"I'm sure you do," Anne says smoothly, "but until we hear it from Jay, then we shouldn't speculate."
The other women all murmur in agreement and Louis turns away, leaning back against the tree trunk. Another witch? Louis shakes her head, telling herself it can't possibly be true. If anyone knew about a new witch coming to their small town, her mum would, and she would've at least told Louis about it.
Louis takes a deep breath before she sets off, walking at a quick pace with the intent on getting home as soon as possible. She's not sure if her mum will know everything about this supposed new witch, but surely she's got to know something.
A/N: according to google docs, this fic (as a whole) is already 2.5k which can only mean that by the time i’m through with it (whenever that may be), it may very well be a monster. strangely, i’m alright with that.

Dark In The Day~ Chapter 4
Love, you left me haunted. Love, I’m just a shadow now.
Sometimes the darkest of them deserve a second chance.
TW almost at the end of the chapter!
~Chapter 4
Jay stood in front of the bathroom mirror, her gaze focused on her graying hair. That was the reason why he had left her, he had found someone younger. He didn't want the pressure of having to raise five kids. She looked away when the tears stung her eyes and she closed them, trying to erase that image from her head. She picked up a bottle of pills and looked at the label. Sleeping pills. They worked for those restless nights when she couldn't sleep, and it made her wonder what it would be like to go in her sleep. To stop hurting once and for all.
The house was empty, she was aware of that when it was too quiet. She couldn't hear her daughters' laughter and their giggles. She couldn't hear her boy telling them stories, or making his sisters laugh. She let out a sob and put the pills back in the drawer. She wiped away her tears and started picking up the mess around the bathroom, unable to stop crying when she knew she was weak. But truth be told, she was the strongest woman out there.
"Now is not the time." She told herself as she tried to stop crying. Now it wasn't the time to go and leave her children behind on their own.
When she was done in the bathroom, she made her way to the bedroom to do the bed. That's when she heard the car pulling up into their driveway. She knew it was that man, the one that had been giving rides to her Louis. She narrowed her eyes and went to look out the window, seeing him and her children getting out of the car. They each had a bag of chips in their hands, and they followed Harry to the back. When he opened the trunk of the car and started taking out the many colorful flowers, her heart warmed up at the sight of them. They were beautiful, and seeing her children smiles brought a little bit of warmth and color into her dull and gray life.
She startled when Harry looked up and made eye contact with her. His green eyes, they were something she would never be able to get out of her head. She walked away and made her way downstairs to make grilled sandwiches, smiling when she saw they had enough for everybody, including Harry. She brightened up when she could hear her children having fun outside, and that was something she would never be able to pay back for to that man.
Outside, Louis listened to Harry telling his sisters how they were supposed to plant the flowers and where so they would stay pretty for a long time. He had on a smile on his face when his sisters already loved Harry and Harry seemed to like them. He looked away, feeling his cheeks heating up when he thought about what it would be like if Harry and himself could be something more. But that was out of the question when he remembered what had happened hours earlier. He took a deep breath and started helping Daisy when she was having trouble with getting the flowers out of the small temporary flower pot.
Looking at Harry, the man was everything Louis could ever want. But he was out of his reach, too good to be true, way superior to him. Louis felt bad when he told himself why would Harry want someone like him when he looked around him, when he thought about his situation. He would be lucky to even have Harry look at him that way, even after finding out the many things he had to deal with everyday. He willed himself to stop thinking about it that way. He didn't need a man, his main priority was his sisters and his mother and that was that.
"And now we water them." He told Daisy, making sure to let her do it on her own. When she was done, she gave him a bright happy smile and it was enough to make him smile.
"You girls did a great job." Harry told them when they were done.
"The house looks so much better." Lottie smiled. "Thank you, Harry."
She hesitated at first, but when Harry gave him a smile, one of those that had her feeling hope, she finally took a step forward and hugged him. Harry returned the hug right away, feeling her energy radiating off of her. Lottie was a good child, Harry learned. The type to leave everything to aid his siblings whenever they needed it. When Louis was gone, everything would sadly fall on her shoulders. It made Harry want to back off, go home and accept he had failed his mission. He didn't want to do it anymore, not when he had gotten to know them.
His brother, the one who lived in the shadows, was certainly right. Some humans were rotten beings, but others deserved a chance. Harry hadn't talked to him in many years, but his older brother had always been wise. It was his want for freedom, his want for equality and the way that he had rebelled that had been his end. Its what had made their Father ban him from home.
"My pleasure." Harry told her, letting go when the front door opened and Jay walked out.
The change in her was noticeable when she smiled at them. It made Louis smile when the twins ran to her and hugged her around her waist before pulling her with them to show them the new flowers. She smiled the whole time and when she made her way towards Harry, Louis started getting nervous. The girls were still working on the flowers, which gave Jay the perfect time to say what she had to say.
"I want to apologize for my behavior earlier today." She said. "It wasn't my intention to make you feel unwelcome, much less when you've helped us so much."
"I understand your wariness towards me." Harry said. "There's nothing to forgive. I haven't introduced myself, my name's Harry Styles." He lifted his hand up to shake hands with her.
"Harry." Jay smiled, her blue eyes shining. "Like the angel Harry."
Harry cleared his throat and tried to keep smiling. "My parents were big devotes." He said.
"That's our favorite angel." Phoebe said when she walked up to them. "Louis reads us stories about him."
"Did you know," Daisy started, making Louis and his family smile. "That Lucifer is Harry's twin. It hurt Lucifer a lot when Harry didn't go with him, but he was evil. Harry was good, that's why he couldn't go with him."
"I'm sure Lucifer understood." Harry's voice trembled.
"He's evil." Daisy said. "He didn't understand and now he does bad things."
"Daisy!" Jay scolded her.
"You're a very smart girl." Harry chuckled.
"See, mama!" Daisy beamed.
"A very beautiful smart girl." Jay kissed her cheek then stood up straight. "I made grilled cheese sandwiches for everybody. Come on, I won't take no for an answer." She told Harry as soon as he saw he was about to protest.
They walked inside, leaving Louis behind who was nothing but happy with how happy his mom was. After all, she deserved a little bit of happiness. The girls sat around their small table while Louis, Jay and Harry decided to eat standing up. Louis tried his best to make conversation, and found it easier when his mother was already feeling comfortable around Harry.
"So where are you from?" Jay asked him as she washed the dishes, having refused Harry to help her when he was the guest. Louis was upstairs with the girls, trying to help them with their homeworks.
"New York." Harry answered right away, having figured out things before he showed up.
"New York!? Wow, you're far away from home, child." She told him, "Don't you miss your family?"
Harry wanted to tell her that he did, he missed them all. He missed his brother. He wanted to tell her many things, but he bit his tongue and sipped from his glass of water. Jay was a very motherly person. Harry wasn't supposed to feel a thing yet there he was. His chest tingled and for once he felt what it was like to have a mother.
It was a strange feeling to him when he had always been the one to protect, change the patterns and the future. It was a warm feeling, the kind where you didn't have to worry about anything when you knew a mom was there to make everything okay. Harry had never had a mother.
"I don't miss my parents that much, they left too soon." Harry shrugged, the lie easily slipping out.
"Oh, I'm sorry." Jay finished what she was doing and dried her hands.
"It's okay." Harry gave her a sweet smile. "I wasn't even a year old yet."
"I think it doesn't matter." Jay sighed. "We still need a mother and a...a father no matter what. A child shouldn't have to lose their parents, and parents shouldn't have to lose their children. My mother always used to tell me that parents, especially a mother, shouldn't have to bury their own child. You leave everything behind when you're old and die, but a child takes everything with them. She used to say there was nothing we could do, that it was the Lord's will and we must accept it."
"It is the Lord's will." Harry told her, swallowing thickly when she shook her head.
Had Father put her through more than enough? Had she had enough?
"That's what I was taught." She looked down, then back at Harry with wet eyes. "And now I'm left wondering why He's cruel to His children."
"I'm sorry if I'm crossing the line, but what happened to Louis' father?" Harry asked, watching her whole demeanor changing.
"That's none of your business." She took a step back, taking a deep breath before facing Harry again. "You're a good man, I can see it. If you're going to stick around I only have one request."
"What is it?" Harry asked again, watching the way her eyes filled with tears, seeing just how hurt her soul was. There was nothing left but emptiness, no hope and faith left whatsoever.
"Please don't hurt my Louis. That's all I ask." She answered.
Harry felt a lump in his throat, an ache on his chest at a mother's request. He couldn't promise her anything, he couldn't do it when he was going to have to break it in just a few days. He wanted to tell her that he would never do it, but he wasn't one to give false hope. It wasn't who he was.
"Is everything okay?" Louis interrupted them, watching his mother wiping at her eyes. "Did something happen?"
No, of course not, baby." Jay forced a smile. "I was just thanking Harry again for what he did for the girls. She lied.
"It was my pleasure. It– It was an honor to make them happy." Harry went along with her lie.
"And I can promise you they will take good care of them." Louis smiled.
"I'm sure they will." Harry said before looking at the clock. "I have to go, but I'll pick you up tomorrow morning." He told him.
"I'll be ready." Louis said.
"It was a pleasure to meet you ma'am." Harry told her.
"The pleasure is mine. Thank you for what you did for the girls, I don't know how I'll ever repay you." Jay said.
Harry hesitated before he answered, when he knew she was going to have to do it. "Just be strong, okay? For them."
His request took Jay by surprise whose eyes widened, but she nodded nonetheless. She grabbed a rag and continued wiping the counters while Louis walked Harry to the door. When Louis got back, she was already sitting in front of her sewing machine, trying to fix the many clothes so they didn't have to buy new ones. Louis walked up to her and wrapped his arms around her shoulders, kissing the side of her head as he thanked her. She held Louis' hand and gave him a smile, finally a genuine one.
"I don't know what is it about that man." Jay said as she rubbed the top of Louis' hand with her thumb. His hands used to be soft and now they weren't anymore.
"He's too good for this world, ma." Louis said.
"People like him give me hope, at least for a little while." She smiled, but it was gone too soon.
"We'll be okay. We're a family and no matter what we stay together. As long as we're together then we'll be fine." Louis told her.
Jay nodded and felt Louis kissing the side of her head again before he left. She continued working, suddenly looking up when she remembered the one place where she might be able to get a job. That night she went to bed with a little bit of hope. A few miles away he prayed for her, kneeling down on the side of the bed with his hands clasped together.

Harry wasn't one to keep many personal items. In fact, he had never owned that many clothes, but according to his brothers, clothes were absolutely necessary. His temporary home was a studio apartment with just the necessary things to survive. He didn't need luxuries when they weren't what they needed. He didn't even own a phone, but a car was necessary. All he needed was a bed to rest when on earth rest was necessary to keep his body healthy. He had a small bathroom to keep himself clean and a kitchen to cook the little food he ate.
He found himself sitting on the couch doing nothing but staring straight ahead hours after he had dropped Louis off. That's how he spent most of his days, cooped up in that small apartment pretending to be someone he wasn't. He closed his eyes and laid down trying to fall asleep, but he found it impossible when he kept feeling that pull. He hadn't changed patterns that morning when he had dropped Louis off, yet something felt wrong. Time slowed down around him and when he lifted his head up to look around, he found him standing in the small space of a kitchen he had.
"I would have looked for something bigger, brother. I almost feel claustrophobic here." He spoke up.
"This is all I need." Harry answered as he got up.
He watched his brother drop a red apple. The fruit looked as if it was floating as it fell when time had been slowed down for them. But outside, time kept going as if it was supposed to.
"Tempting, huh?" His hazel eyes looked into Harry's green ones. "Temptation is everywhere, brother. So is lust...carnal attraction."
"What are you doing here, Gabriel?" Harry asked him, thoughts of Louis filling his head. He closed his eyes and willed them away, and when he opened them he found Gabriel staring at him.
"Your time is running out. Father wants to know what's taking you so long." Gabriel walked around the small apartment. "You didn't change your mind, did you? Let Michael convince you."
"I've seen it with my own eyes." Harry's eyes filled with tears. "Michael is right, they just need help."
"What we need is to start over and you're not helping." Gabriel's gaze hardened with anger. "It is what Father wants and that's what you're going to give him. You've already disobeyed Him enough times, changed the patterns when you weren't supposed to."
"I couldn't do–"
"The many times you've driven him home!" Gabriel interrupted him. "That lamp. You should've been back home days ago with him."
"He has a family and they depend on him." Harry hurried up to explain. "We can't make Johanna suffer more...if we take Louis she'll never recover."
"Life is full of tests, brother!" Gabriel shouted. "She's weak if she can't get through them."
"This is not who we are, Gabriel. We're supposed to guide them through the right path, not destroy them." Harry pleaded.
"They're destroying themselves, Harry. They're greedy, they're thirsty for blood, they love wars, they love to shed blood. They can't even love one another for something as stupid as race. They're all God's children in our eyes, but what does it matter now when all they do is hate and kill each other." Gabriel's eyes filled with tears.
"That's why they need our help! They need Louis' –"
"The prophecy won't fully happen, brother." Gabriel interrupted him again. "Patterns were set long ago, and it's started. You can't do anything about it anymore. Good luck trying to change them now." Gabriel sighed and walked to the door to leave.
"What are you talking about?" Harry followed him.
"You underestimate me." Gabriel turned around to look at him. "It hasn't been long here, but out there, time never stopped."
And Harry understood. The blood rushed through his head making his vision blurry. The apple finally fell to the floor and by then, Gabriel was gone and many hours had already passed. He was supposed to have picked Louis up almost an hour ago. He took a few steps back, hitting his hip against the counter. His eyes filled with tears and that's when he took off.
He slammed the door closed without bothering to lock it and ran downstairs past his car. He didn't need it when he had something that could get him there faster. He had missed the rush of air on his face, but now was not the time to enjoy it. It didn't take long for him to hear his screams and for his vision to adjust to the darkness just enough to see it. His blood boil when he saw Louis running in the darkness and into an alley, and Chris behind him as he laughed.
It all happened so fast and he couldn't move fast enough when by the time he got there Louis was already on the dirty ground. Harry walked faster when he saw Chris on top of him, but a hand wrapping around his arm is what stopped Harry. He turned around and looked into Michael's blue and sad eyes.
"It'll be over soon, brother." His voice trembled.
"No." Harry tried to push him away, but Michael was stronger.
"You can't mess with the pattern and change the future anymore, Harry. Let what has to happen happen." He insisted as he used all of his force to hold Harry back.
Harry's eyes filled with tears and his heart ached when Louis kept screaming for help. He didn't want this to happen, he didn't want Louis to have to go through that. He should have ended everything when he had the chance, now Louis was paying the price. Harry kept fighting Michael, screaming when the older man wrapped his wings around him and held him in place.
"Not like this! Not this way!" Harry screamed.
"It'll be over soon." Michael insisted.
Harry didn't want to watch but he had to. He fought with all his being to get his brother off of off him at the same time Louis struggled to get Chris off of him. He gave up the moment Louis pushed Chris off and scooted away from his as fast as he could. He looked up and watched the window AC unit fall from a third floor apartment window and land on top of Chris' head. The sound it made was enough to make Harry cringe, but that didn't deter him from continuing to watch.
A pool of bright red blood quickly formed around Chris' head while Louis stared with wide and terrified eyes full of tears. His old shirt was ripped and his jeans were missing the button, having being pulled down halfway down his bum. He started shaking and let out a loud sob as he brought his knees close to his chest and wrapped his arms around them. He rocked himself back and forth as Harry and Michael watched.
Harry couldn't hear what Michael was trying to tell him when all he could see was the dark figure standing next to Chris' body, looming over his body and Louis. His eerie green eyes watched in amusement how Chris' rotten soul struggled to stay attached to its vessel. Harry saw the darkness on his face, a face identical to his as a smirk slowly formed on his red plump lips. He watched the way he clawed at the soul before he grabbed it and took off into the darkness.
"Harry!" Michael shouted, finally catching Harry's attention. "Take him to your place until he calms down. Things have changed."
"It was you." Harry mumbled.
"We're running out of time, they'll be here soon." Michael let go of him, "I'll look for you later." He said before he was gone.
That's when Harry reacted and ran to Louis, dropping to his knees right next to him. It broke his heart to see the way he was crying, unaware of his surroundings when he seemed to be in a trance as he cried. He didn't say anything and picked Louis up to take him back to his place. He walked and carried Louis all the way up until he made it back. He gently placed Louis on his bed and walked to the sink to wet a towel so he could clean his face. He knew it was coming as soon as the towel made contact with Louis' face.
His sobs were the loudest Harry had ever heard and his body spasmed as he cried. For the first time, Harry held him and tried to comfort him. He looked outside at the dark skies through the window, wondering what was it that his Father had planned. Why tell him and his brothers to love them, when now He wanted to end them. When he wanted to end the life of someone as good as Louis'. He held Louis tighter when he remembered the brother he had lost eons ago had taken Chris' soul, when it had been Chris' soul the one the one he wanted all along. Now Harry was starting to understand him, his reason to do what he did.
The alley was dark and wet due to the rain that had fallen earlier that day, not a single person to be seen in the area unless you wanted to get robbed, and in extreme cases, die. A chained dog viciously barked in the distance, rattling the chain link fence whenever it would get too close to it. The night air was chilly, bringing with it the smells of foods from different countries being sold by a few restaurants nearby.
It was noisy, too noisy for anyone to notice the whoosh of air caused by something, a body falling from the dark skies above. He landed with grace on his feet, with knees bent to soften the fall, and a hand on the dirty wet ground. It wasn't necessary when he already had something to soften the fall, and it was more efficient. His wings. His bones were dense so there was no risk of damaging them, yet the habit of bending his knees was always there.
He took a deep breath, his nostrils flaring at the new smells and his green eyes widening at the new scenery around him. It was nothing like his home. It was true what the rest said, the world was now dirty and too violent. Humans had no salvation no matter how many times Michael had tried to convince them. He looked up at the sky and closed his eyes as he nodded until the sudden noise of a fence rattling startled him.
He rushed to take cover against a wall, then quickly walked towards the exit. The dog barking made him nervous even though he knew the dog was just as nervous as he was and wouldn't hurt him. He didn't have much time left to find him and complete his mission so he could go back home. His Father had promised it would be quick and painless, and that the poor soul had a well deserved spot in heaven.
He folded his wings against his back, and with a little concentration, he created the illusion of them not being there at all. He walked the dark dirty streets, shaking his head at the many vile acts happening in front of him. He couldn't do anything, that wasn't his mission. That wasn't why he was allowed to descend. He ignored the people staring at him, not quite understanding why he was freely walking in the cold rain. His long hair was wet and sticking to his skin. He would have to cut it soon.
He walked until he arrived at his destination. An empty parking lot surrounded by nothing but abandoned buildings ready to be demolished. He spotted the new car in front of him and the dark figure standing next to it, waiting for him.
"You're late. My time is very valuable and I've been waiting for hours." He spoke, cockiness slipping out in every word, "Ex father should be thankful you were once my favorite."
"Lucifer. Always the dramatic one. Seems like Hell couldn't fix that." He rolled his eyes, "I've missed you, brother."
"Cut that shit out, Harry." Lucifer snapped, his eyes glowing red before they went back to that eerie green, a green that once used to be kind like Harry's still were. "Here are the keys, and everything else you're going to need is in the car. Tell your Father I don't owe him anything else." He threw the keys at him and started walking away as he ran his fingers through his long brown hair.
"Believe it or not, I never agreed with him when he cast you out!" Harry shouted, knowing he had hit a nerve when Lucifer stopped and turned around to look at him. His features similar as Harry's hardening in an instant. "You're my brother, we were cut from the same cloth."
"Whatever. I don't need your pity. Do me a favor, when you kill that kid, make sure you make it fast. Ex Father knows he's been through enough and doesn't deserve more pain." Lucifer looked down at the floor before turning around and walking away as fast as he could.
Harry's wings itched to unfold and take him back to heaven as soon as he heard Lucifer's request, but he ignored it in favor of completing his mission. He would not fail his Father like his twin brother had done.
