Rebuild Your Wardrobe with These 4 Essentials
Let’s face it: Sometimes, your current outfit rotation just doesn’t cut it. Every time you look in your closet, all you see are clothes that don’t really excite you. Maybe you’ve moved to a new city, and the vibe is different than where you’re from, or maybe you’ve been wearing the same styles for years and feel it’s time to reinvent your personal aesthetic. Whatever your situation, a wardrobe refresh is in the cards. It might seem like a daunting task, but it can be done. Here are four essential items you need to build a solid style base.
Tumblr media
Solid Color Polos The start to any good style is a versatile collection of polos. They work in the office, at the beach, on the course, at home, and pretty much anywhere you go, you’ll look good and feel good while wearing a polo. Having polos in a variety of different solid colors makes it easy to craft your look to fit different settings and occasions. Start rebuilding your wardrobe by picking out a couple of polos in your favorite colors. Green, light blue, grey, navy, or red are all great foundational choices. You can wear them by themselves with a pair of shorts or throw a blazer on top with some chinos for a professional look. Also consider a high-quality golf pullover. Complementary Pants A good pair of pants is like the best supporting actor in your favorite movie. They aren’t the star, but they are a big part of why your outfit looks ready to win awards. You want your pants to complement the rest of your style. A pair of five-pocket pants in neutral colors like tan, grey, or navy can match almost anything, especially your favorite pullovers. They automatically level up any outfit and can dress up or dress down. They work just as good at the grocery store as they do in the board room. Grab a couple different colors so you can wear them with practically anything. Statement Button Ups Now that you’ve got your bases covered, it’s time to add some pieces that will help you make a statement at parties, special events, and just everyday life. You need some button ups that help you stand out from the crowd. This is where your individuality and creativity get to shine. You have complementary, neutral shorts, so you can go as bold as you want with your button ups. If stripes are your thing, find some plaid pattern shirts. Have fun with it, and you’re sure to find something you’ll love. Quarter Zip Pullovers Everyone needs layering pieces to add some polish to any of their daily looks. A 1/4 zip pullover is a must-have for this reason. A performance quarter zip that’s wrinkle-resistant, moisture-wicking, and breathable should do the trick. Pick some versatile colors like navy or grey for a simple look you can take anywhere, or hit the links in a bright blue or lime green option. The only limit is your imagination. These quarter zips can put the finishing touches on the foundation of your new wardrobe. Now, you’re ready to get out and show the world the new looks you’ve crafted. About johnnie-O Whether you’re hitting the links in Chicago or enjoying a world-class meal out in L.A., every guy deserves clothes that help him look good and feel even better. It doesn’t matter where you live—johnnie-O is bringing WEST COAST PREP to your life. Introducing the Teacher-Gamer Handbook
Tumblr media
The Teacher-Gamer Handbook is a resource for educators to lead Role Playing Games (such as Dungeons and Dragons) in the classroom, in homeschool and online. It contains a full semester of robust lesson plans and the pedagogical infrastructure to last years that teach 36 life-skills to players with pre-created adventure suggestions, narrative arcs and prompts.
Tumblr media
The main premise is: you can’t learn something unless you notice it. The purpose of the RPG Skillset is to generate multitudes of continuous opportunities to notice things within at least 36 major domains of self-development. The possibilities are endless.
My name is Zach.
Here is a brief history of how the Teacher-Gamer Handbook came to be:
1982 played Dungeons and Dragons for the first time - my character died in the first 10 minutes, it was so fascinating and unlike anything I had ever experienced... I was hooked! I have been playing RPGs for thousands of hours and almost 4 decades. Some would call me an O.G. (Original Gamer).
1990’s adventuring in life, school, work, music production, becoming Canadian and starting a family steered me in new directions.
2002+ raising two boys with my wife Sophie, I was teaching and studying by day, hangin' with the family and playing RPGs when I could on weekends.
2006 enrolled in an MA program in Education to better understand the “how” of teaching and learning.
2010 finished my Masters in Education focused on authentic learning and life-skills curriculum development.
2012 realized that role-playing games (RPGs) in Schools was an untapped resource. I began working on the Teacher-Gamer as an extension of my Distinct Self well-being program.
2014-2016 brought RPGs in Schools curriculum into the classroom at Green School Bali
2015-present Wild Mind Training workshops blending RPGs in Schools with mindfulness ramps into wilderness trips with Wildlife Conservation Society.
Tumblr media
2020 Teacher-Gamer Revolution! - happening offscreen on tabletops everywhere! Let’s get radical about balancing EdTech and AI coming into schools by bringing our teacher’s hobbies into life-skills classes that enrich youth with socio-emotional and literary skills while maintaining the distinctly human teacher-student relationships that cannot be replaced by computers.
Tumblr media
What We Need & What You Get
Tumblr media
I started this campaign for three main reasons:
It is time to put the Teacher-Gamer Revolution on the timeline, now, globally. It is so important to take what you have inside you and put it into the civic sphere. I urge all educators to make the world a better place by combining their passions with their pedagogical skills and make them available to the public.
Self-publishing the Teacher-Gamer Handbook (TGHB) will launch this new step of my career with all the support of my colleagues, friends and anyone who likes the idea that robust off-screen game-system-learning (engaging face-to-face life-skills development) is a viable initiative to balance the influx of technology into schools.
The TGHB is my calling card, a beacon, an organized methodology that I can put into the hands of people I meet at conferences, conventions and school boards wherever I go.
I took a calculated risk and have already borrowed the money to:
finish the book
have it typeset in the style of a role-playing game handbook
make videos to explain how teaching RPGs in schools works
build a website with a private interactive forum.
I also plan to use the momentum and connections I make with so many people around the world to take the curriculum to the next level.
Tumblr media
My ultimate goal is to hit at least $60,000 so that I can spread the methodology online and hit the road when the world opens up again to safe conferences and in-person education.
Here's the Teacher-Gamer Revolution plan for the funds raised on IndieGoGo:
Hard Copy prints of the book for everyone!
Hit our stretch goals and produce additional resources for Teacher-Gamers to accompany the Handbook.
Finish the next three handbooks full of additional lesson plans, classroom activities and teaching strategies.
Newsletters with practical activities
Instructional videos
Teacher-gamer website features celebrating educator success around the world
Weekly Webinars for online outreach and support
Teacher training workshop deployment to implement new full-scale RPGs in the classroom programs.
Head to Conferences and speaking events to grow the community and gain traction.
Continued customization of RPGs in Schools curriculum in community centers, school boards, correctional facilities and homeschools far and wide.
Finish the next three handbooks full of additional lesson plans, classroom activities and teaching strategies.
Tumblr media
Benefits for the Educators
help schools transition into more life-skills programs that prepare youth for adulthood
build progressive opportunities for face-to-face off-screen courses in schools
maintain positive attitudes about the future of schools
work to make life-skills more prominent in schools for the subject teacher who is getting pushed out by tech
Strengthen relationships with students through gameplay
The last thing a teacher wants to feel like is “obsolete”. There is some hustle each teacher must do to remain fresh, viable and relevant in their community, but if teachers are trying to battle incoming tech or are being asked to do more tech type roles, they will have to find ways to shift the consciousness of the institutes they work in or be moved around or pushed out.
This is a call to teachers to take their passions- or at least an opportunity to pick up this methodology to teach games- and deploy life-skills into their learning environment.
Tumblr media
The Impact
Tumblr media
By contributing to the Teacher-Gamer Handbook, you are doing more than just buying a book or helping it get printed, you help:
establish the printing, distribution and sale of the book
the off-screen Teacher-Gamer Revolution gain traction and take flight
bring viability to the TEACHER-GAMER profession
subject teachers to collaborate with their peers to build robust game systems into learning opportunities
wilderness survival teachers establish classroom simulations of safety and role-playing through authentic learning narratives
bring a whole new piece of curriculum to holistic education
make in-roads for RPGs in Schools to become a discipline unto itself that helps youth process the multiverse of systems, franchises, worlds and cultures that are coming at them at high-speed through the internet and media.
The Story
Tumblr media
The Teacher-Gamer Handbook has been over 8 years in the making!
The RPGs in Schools program was originally developed as an extension to a Personal and Social Development Local Programme course cycle in Canadian public school – a well-being curriculum program of life-skills electives at The English Montreal School Board in Quebec. Since then, the RPGs in Schools program has been adapted into the Wild Mind Training resiliency program for youth, 10 years old and older in schools and camps in Indonesia and the UK where I have been working over the last 6 years.
Starting in 2014, Green School Bali was an early adopter of the RPGs in Schools Program where I ran Introduction to Dungeons and Dragons as an English literacy course (creative writing) in high school and as an English literacy course (communication thematic) in middle school.
Tumblr media
Every child surveyed in Green School reported that they liked the RPGs class and over half of them considered it their favorite class!
As I went along, I started realizing that all the life skills (21 basic and 15 advanced) that I was teaching could be dialed in to meet various curriculum goals and that if I put learners on a narrative cycle such as the Hero’s Journey, they would begin to recognize so many more thematics, symbols, motifs and literary forms as they relate to so many of the stories, books, films, TV series, mangas and other sagas that they follow.
Re-branded as Wild Mind Training, over the last 4 years. I have been experimenting with more mindfulness, wilderness conservation and improvisational theatre elements. As a home school aggregate on the weekdays and a weekend workshop for day school children, I have ironed out the kinks of three different levels of Introduction to Life-Skills through 3rd edition Dungeons and Dragons courses.
As with any pedagogy delivery system, the context and content (ie. role-playing game being used) can be adjusted into the area of study or subject. What matters most is that the learning system is authentically motivating and delivers opportunity after opportunity to acquire literacy, socio-emotional and life skills.
Tumblr media
Risks & Challenges
Tumblr media
Getting the book printed is only the first step. I’m taking a huge financial risk of my own even if the project does not get funded. In order for it to succeed, I have to get out there and hit the road to show people how the methodology really improves the learning experience for the students and teachers.
I’ve got to hit trade shows, book speaking events, and still create workshops to help teacher-gamers really kickstart this program.
Let’s keep it real: this is an alternative learning method that requires adaptation. There may be backlash as conventional school systems are entrenched in “standardization”. I have to keep pushing this body of work as a complement to curricula by expanding the resources for teachers.
Gamification has brought games into education, but have also made the teachers gatekeepers to the computer. The negative result is that kids will be on their best behavior just to be allowed to get on screen. We need to bring value back to the teacher-student relationship, also making the teacher-gamer an exciting part of education - off-screen!
Tumblr media
The Teacher-Gamer Revolution is on!
And I am ready. The time is NOW. If not us, then who?
As a network of early adopters it is YOU that will help me carry this forward and YOU that by belief in this project, will help extend the reach of the Teacher-Gamer Revolution.
We have some goals to hit, and time is of the essence. There has been so much learned by going for it and I am so excited to turn this guerilla-style launch of getting the first Handbook off the ground and into teachers hands everywhere.
We will try to get questions answered as soon as possible, just know we are also trying to get the book to print BEFORE the end of the campaign and have a lot going on.
That being said, we are GOING TO PRINT and get your copies to you as SOON as possible. Depending on your location this could take some time as we are a GLOBAL movement with community around the world, but can only afford to print in ONE location at this time.
Print and delivery is scheduled for June 15th and getting copies in your hands by July 1st. But again, your patience is much appreciated and we will update you every step of the way!
Thanks to you for all your patience and getting involved.
Indiegogo campaign ends: 24 April 2020

On the Resourcefulness, Intelligence and Grit of Fic Writers
My beta and starmate @rainbowstarbird and I have been writing fic since we were preteens. I specifically remember straining, in my seat, toward my screen and my 13th birthday so that I could Very Legally sign up for ff/net. Wild, right?
We are also students of narrative, specifically radical queer storytelling. One of our favorite things to do is go on errands (we’re old be quiet) and just brainstorm ideas with characters we love where they share our identities and struggles and do things we need or want to see. Or just ... get kinda horny, as today.
Rae exclaimed at some poor driving on our way to the house and accidentally said “room for two” and our brains went south, toward the double penetration line of thinking. We laughed, and laughed, and then Rae shrieks MAKE IT A PORN, GO and thus began the game.
Me: uhhh uhhh uhhh OH OH okay so, it’s!!! a bed and breakfast!!! and the hot married owners court and seduce a guest and DP them! ROOM!! FOR!!! TWO!!! it works on both levels!
Rae: Aaaaaaaa someone hasn’t made this a porn yet?! make it a fic!
and we did.
Me: oh shit who’s an OT3 we can play with?
Rae: WHITE COLLAR
(for those who don’t know, White Collar is a delicious drama action procedural show where a white collar FBI agent, Peter, teams up with one of the greatest con men ever. A con man he’s tailed for YEARS, by the way, that HE put in jail, and together they solve art crimes and slowly rehabilitate Neal. Peter is amazing, soft soulful masculinity to a t, and has a very frank, beautiful, nurturing wife named Elle who is also amazing and Neal has never belonged anywhere and there is a LOT of tension as Neal edges closer and closer to letting himself be loved but then NOPES out to return to his scammer ways. The cast joked about a threesome. It’s heavy. Both Peter and Elle would do anything for Neal, and struggle with his inability to believe he’s worth love. Its. Ugh.)
Me: YES!!! SO!!! to theme, it would have to be married couple Peter and Elle running a cute little Bed and Breakfast that Neal stumbles upon and then he gets fuuuuuuuuucked
Rae: But I want peter to be a FBI agent?? Who is he, if not a lawman?
Me: AH! RETIRED cop/FBI agent peter, swayed into peaceful AND swanky bed and breakfast life by his canonically talented event designer wife Elle in the hopes of giving him some calm and space to come to grips with himself
Rae: YES! AS HE DEALS WITH HIS PTSD. his career took a slightly darker turn -- we can take one of the harder cases and imagine how it would have gone without Neal and how it would have shook him -- and necessitated a retirement from the field.
Me: and Neal is very off his track. He broke up with whatserface. Maybe he just got out of prison, or narrowly squirmed out of it after one of his art blackmail schemes went south. He doesn’t know whether he wants to go back to crime/art forgery, but he’s out of money and out of ideas and he pulls up at this small unassuming (BUT VERY TASTEFUL) bed and breakfast and immediately tries to scam Elle with a fake credit card to stay the night.
Rae: Yes, he’s charming, but he’s off his game due to the recent upset and fumbles the delivery. Peter scents it immediately, being a cop, but Elle takes pity on him and just says honey let it be. Maybe he’s having some trouble. She’s so nurturing, and says ‘remember what we talked about in therapy, Pete?’ and frames it as letting go of hypervigilance, and being more centered like they’re learning in therapy. Because they need therapy. And the idea of a sexy older established couple openly talking and communicating to deal with their pain but also their boundaries is amazing. But also it’s hilarious how it becomes “Neal is a walking test of Peter’s ability to Calm Down” because Elle leverages it like REMEMBER? THERAPY? and Peter stomps off flustered and lets her get her way just like in the show
Me: yes and so they get attached to poor lost Neal, and extend and extend his stay night after night while he figures things out. so of course everyone gets to talking. Peter feels his Old Buried Gay Feelings awakening with such a beautiful guy hangin out, bein’ all charming and sweet -- which is an opportunity to bring up the “remember what we talked about in therapy?” line in a different context, a la dealing with neglected parts of ourselves and not just “problem” parts of ourselves to create a WHOLE self -- and Elle spots it from a mile away, as well as Neal crushing right back but being on his best behavior with this awesome couple just sorta letting him live with them.
Rae: YES, like, he doesn’t want to mess this up, and he’s also not used to ... being good. Behaving. Or ... being trusted. All of this is fucking him up on a lot of levels, bringing him face to face with his hollow conceptions of self-worth, and it’s delicious. They LOVE HIM. and there’s so much angst about him dying to confess that he never really had the money to stay here in the first place, that he tried to scam them, as a metaphor for his intrinsic worthlessness.
Me: yes. they love him. And then they love him. At the same time. DP. Room for two.
[screams, high-fives, then contented silence. horny, contended silence]
Rae: But wait. ... it’s ... DP?
Me: *shrugs* Elle gives the strap. You know she does.
Rae: holy shit she do. DONE ITS A THING WE MADE A THING WOOOOOO
SO!
This is why fanfiction is magic. We took these characters and fit them to a cheap porn scenario just for the hell of it, and yet its much more than a scenario, and so much more than fitting a square peg into a round hole. It’s about the characters interacting AROUND AND WITHIN the scenario, the way all of their problems and complexes interlock in the new setting or AU, which enriches the scene and lends it emotional weight and momentum. It’s that amazing quote about “i don’t want porn in my LOTR, but LOTR in my porn”, but obviously it doesn’t always have to be an explicit scenario to reflect this amazing ability to ADAPT, IMPROVISE, AND OVERCOME in order to create incredible content!
Fanfiction is about learning identities and ways of being. Fanfiction requires a top view of characterization and a grasp of narrative flow: The important components of a character, and how many parts you can tweak or change and it Still Be the Character. It delves into those weird grey areas where you see THOUSANDS of different iterations of a character and some of them hit the spot, and some don’t, and we learn what we like. What we value, personally, and in these characters, as well as how OTHER people see traits that become HCs that let us learn about those populations, like a prevailing hc that someone is trans, or deaf, or nonbinary, or a spoonie, or etc etc etc and our world view gets a little wider, a little richer, and a little more empathetic.
It also means understanding the tiers of characterization, like what are defining traits versus secondary traits, and thus what (environmental) aspects you can change to bring out secondary character traits but still retain the core of the character while exploring material never approached in the show, just because you want to. Because you see something of yourself in this character and want to SEE YOURSELF in this character. It is amazing. IT IS AMAZING.
Yes, fanfic is the ultimate sandbox for “for the sake of” fantasies/stories and part of the transformative value is there’s no real NEED to adhere to characterization. There’s no pressure. We can go wild. It’s a blank slate, IT’S WHATEVER, but I think we consistently underestimate how fanfiction itself is an adaptive and analytical gladiator-ring-slash-orgy that we can emerge from MASTERS of characterization, exploration and expression, and just about every day is a study of What We Like and What We Want to See. Even, or especially, if the higher ups aren’t gonna give it to us off the cuff.
It’s amazing. Fic is amazing. I dunno. I’m just super happy with this thing we do.
So if you’re feeling weird about that fic you want to write, don’t. Just do it!
Rae and I are gonna make a podcast where we talk about this stuff. I’m excited. You in? :)

A Matter of Convenience 4
There was a horrible screech, as Prowl’s frame seized. Ratchet was in the room a nanoklik after the episode had begun. Before the medic could plug into his patient, it ended, and the Praxian went slack, his optics dark.  Jazz stepped back as Ratchet examined Prowl, inside and out. Wisdom would have had the Polihexian make a quick, but instead he stayed glued, optics never leaving the prone mech. He had seen crashes before, but not like that, and not this close. Though it might have been silly, Jazz felt certain that it was his fault, certain that Ratchet was going to have his helm. Really, he should have been sneaking away. But he watched, and he waited. Eventually Ratchet unplugged from his patient and turned to the saboteur, tapping a wrench against his palm.
“What did I say about stressing him?” The medic asked coolly. Cool was so much worse than hot when it came to Ratchet, it promised pain and suffering. “Enforcers got him wound up, and you have him crashing.”
“I was tryin’ not to!” Jazz exclaimed, servos raised. “I just... startled him?”
“That would do it,” Ratchet grumbled. “He has a processor glitch.”
“From those slaggers?” The Polihexian asked.
“Latent,” the old Iaconian explained.  “You didn’t know?”
“His brother mentioned a defect but I didn’t realize he meant literal,” Jazz replied. “Frag. Mech’s had it rough.”
“The good news is crashes like that don’t cause any real damage,” Ratchet said. “It’s more system defence to prevent it. The bad news is that seizing undid some of the repairs I did on his doorwing, so I’m going to need to go in again. No more surprises or you, are banned.”
“Gonna take him right now?” the saboteur asked. He felt he was really earning his job title right now.
“Yep, no reason not hold off,” the medic replied.
“I need to head out,” Jazz said. “His brothers slipped their handlers. I need to see if I can find’em for’m.”
“How exactly are you tangled up in this?” Ratchet asked.
“His mechlings... his brothers, rather been hangin’ out at the raceway, before me ‘n the Twins ever got back to Iacon,” the Polihexian explained. “Blue, the bitlet o’em has been a miracle for Sunny and Sides. Smokey, the younglin’s been huge too... He ‘n Sides have prank wars. Gives Sunny a break if he don’t want in on it... They got their troubles too. Blue saw their ‘genitor die... He gets panic attacks sometimes. Smokey keeps his more inside, but he scraps a bit... Their origin shipped them off to a brother they never met, ‘n they bonded to him. Now the powers that be think it’s a good idea to ship’em off to the slagger their origin’ bonded to. Mech given a frag ‘bout them.”
“Find the mechlings, and I’ll fix him up,” the old mech said. “I’m thinking you have a plan.”
“My plan is to make sure the court don’t do somethin’ stupid,” Jazz replied. “’N maybe that makes me crazy, but that ship sailed vorns ago.”
“At least you recognize it,” Ratchet rumbled. “Get going. I’ll keep, him up to date.”
“Thanks, Ratch,” the saboteur said. “Take care o’m. Don’t think anyone’s bothered to for a long time.”
Prowl had been right about one thing, Smokescreen who not come looking for him. The youngling would avoid the raceway, anywhere he thought the Enforcers would look. He would keep his comms off too, the Praxian was a smart mechling, he would make sure he could not be traced. That did not mean Jazz would not and could not look for them, and the first place he was going to was the raceway. It might have seemed counter-intuitive but Jazz knew how to track mechs, and he had a connection those Enforcers did not have. Jazz had the Twins.  If he was lucky, either Smokescreen or Bluestreak would have told either Sideswipe or Sunstreaker something that the saboteur could use to track the Praxians down. Maybe, just maybe Smokescreen might have left a clue. Knowing the youngling, he had probably planned this all along.
The Twins were in the Shack when he returned, sipping on their favourite flavour of oil smoothies. Split-sparks or not, the mechlings had different tastes on many things, but there were a lot of things they shared. Fuel was one of them. They both loved strong flavours, with pop-ores being a favoured, and these shakes were full of the things. Jazz grabbed a shake of his own, minus the shocking additives. As was their habit, the brothers were sitting side by side, rather than across from each other. While they could be separated, and they benefited from some distance at least once in a while, when they were stressed or upset, the Twins leaned on each other. Right now, they were very stressed, and what Jazz was about to tell them, was not likely to ease that stress. Steeling himself, the Polihexian joined his youngling in their booth.
“Something happened,” Sideswipe said.
“Smokey ‘n Blue slipped outta the younglin’ centre,” Jazz explained. “No one knows where they are.”
Sideswipe looked at Sunstreaker who looked Jazz straight on. They knew something alright, and in this instance, the red twin was deferring to the yellow. Both brothers could keep a secret but if you were only going to tell one mechanism, and you wanted it to stay safe, Sunstreaker was your mech. That was part of the trouble with Sunstreaker, he kept so much inside, that sometimes in choked him, and sometimes it bubbled over and exploded in shocking bursts of violence. Jazz had gotten pretty good at catching these eruptions before they could happen, right now his mechling was simmering. But Jazz was patient, and he waited, leaning comfortably back in the booth. If necessary, he could out wait them, and if nothing he could lay down the law, but right now patience was the ticket, as it usually was.
“Smokescreen talked about something he studied in social studies,” Smokescreen said, at last. “He said the Temples of Adaptus used to be a shelter, sort of. If mechanisms said they were in danger, if it was from the governement, or kin, it didn’t matter. The Priests would hide them.”
“That’s right,” the progenitor replied. “Did he tell ya anythin’ else.”
“That the old Senate would sneak in and take enemies out in the dark-cycle,” the yellow twin said. “And when Megatron seized Kaon, he didn’t even bother with the dark-cycle, he just stormed right in.”
“Also right,” Jazz said. “There’s a Temple o’ Adaptus at the Spires.”
“Would Optimus raid it?” Sideswipe asked.
“No,” the Polihexian replied. “Never. ‘N the Enforcers can’t either.”
“Could Optimus help?” Sunstreaker asked. “Those ‘Bots’re wrong. Smokey and Blue belong here.”
“Optimus won’t interfere,” Jazz said. “He can’t without gettin’ slag from everyone, ‘n rightly... Look ‘m helpin’ best I can... but I mighta jumped off a cliff of crazy. How’d ya feel ‘bout them livin’ with us?”
“In our habsuite?” The red twin asked. “Ya!”
“That’d be cool!” His brother agreed. “What’s the catch?”
“I’d be bondin’ wit their brother,” their progenitor said. He waited for an eruption, and he got one, but it was an eruption of laughter. After almost a bream, the Twins stopped their cackling and looked to Jazz again.
“You’re serious,” Sideswipe said, deadpanned. “Seriously, seriously.”
“Ya, this is definitely a new level of crazy, ‘genitor,” Sunstreaker added. “Have you even met him, like, really met him?”
“I’ve just been by the medicentre,” Jazz replied. “Had a talk... Sorta asked ‘m...”
“You made him crash,” the trickier of the twins accused, with a little cackle and a wage of his digit. “Didn’t you?”
“Maybe,” the saboteur replied, sheepishly. “To be fair, no one told me their was a glitch!”
“That’s one of the things that fragger Barricade’s been throwing in his face,” the yellow twin said. “Because it had him sent to a “special” school. Because other Enforcers used to make jokes about how to make the spastic Praxian crash.”
“Don’t call’m that, okay?” Jazz replied. “I know ya just repeatin’ what ya been told, so I understand, but don’t call’m, or Red or anyone else ya meet wit a processor fault that. Ain’t their fault.”
“Sunstreaker said he’s crazy smart,” Sideswipe said. “And that he got fired from the Enforcers in Praxus because he wouldn’t arrest a mech he thought was innocent, and wouldn’t testify against him. Mech got locked up anyways. Turned out he was innocent. Prowl’s evidence convicted someone else, eventually. But they didn’t call him to testify. They pretended it was all them.”
“Ya know why he was fired this time?” The Polihexian asked.
“He’s been tryin’ to prove that people are missing from the Parks,” Sunstreaker replied. “Blue said, he wasn’t recharging much, ‘cause he was trying to find something that would make them see. Guess he called out the wrong mech because they made up this report that said he was forging his time card. Then when their habsuite got trashed, most of their stuff was broken, or burnt, even though all the neighbours places were in better shape. None of his datapads were left... Not burnt up, just gone.”
“Sounds suspicious,” Jazz said. “My clever mechlings, thinkin’ like me.”
“So they’d be our brothers... sort of?” The red twin asked. “He’d be... what would we call him?”
“Prowl,” the progenitor said. “Caretaker. Whate’er ya like, that’s up to ya.”
“Why would he want to take care of us?”  The brasher of the brothers asked. “How’re we gonna know he’s gonna care about us at all... He’ll just be bonding with you for his credits.”
“If he goes for it, he’ll be bondin’ with me for Smokey and Blue,” Jazz replied. “I won’t let’m or anyone mistreat ya. If he goes for it, we’re all gonna spend some time together to see if it can work. If it don’t, ‘m still gonna do all that I can to keep Blue ‘n Smokey wit’m. But I ain’t gonna do the two o’ ya wrong for their sake, or anyone’s.”
“Okay,” Sunstreaker said, after a pause. “It’d be cool to have an older brother...”
“Ya,” Sideswipe agreed, and he grinned, full of mischief. “Younger brothers are supposed to torment their older brother, right?”
“I did hear that” the yellow twin said. Jazz laughed.
“Not sure how Smokey’s gonna feel ‘bout that,” he replied. “But I think he handles ya pretty good already.”
“Bluestreak seems to think Prowl’s pretty great,” Sideswipe said. “Smokescreen looks up to him... He might be alright.”
“I wanna know there’s somewhere here who’s really gonna watch ya, really take care o’ ya ‘n listen to ya when I get deployed again,” Jazz said. “’M hopin’ he’s up for it. ‘M hopin’ y’ll let’m.”
“We’ll see,” Sunstreaker said. “He might be alright... Is it coming? Are you gonna be deployed soon?”
“So far, so good,”the progenitor replied. “It’s gonna come, but hopefully not for stellar-cycles, even vorns yet. ‘M gonna go to the temple ‘n see if I can find our friends. Do ya wanna go home or stay here a bit longer.”
“I could go for a few more races,” the impish twin said. “How about you, Sunshine?”
“I’m gonna drive circles around you if you keep calling me that,” his brother warned. That was Sunstreaker. The was not much for nicknames, but most of his complaints were without heat. It was, for the most part, just another quirk between the twins. “Don’t come back until you find them, ‘genitor.”
“Ya, got it,” Jazz said.
The Temple of Adaptus was the smallest of the spires, devoted to the worship of maybe the least notable of the Guiding Hand. Its Priesthood was known for being benefactors of the poor and the persecuted, and Jazz hoped to Primus, Adaptus and the rest of the Guiding Hand that those priest were giving sanctuary to those two frightened mechlings. Smokescreen was a smart mechling, smarter than his teachers probably gave him credit. Jazz knew he passed his courses but rarely aced them, not because he was not smart enough but because he had a rebellious streak. On his last report, he had aced everything, and the Polihexian knew this becasue Smokescreen had showed him. He had been proud, so proud of the youngling that he had paid for an orn of racing. At the end of the orn he had shown of his gift from Prowl, a mode matching his designation. It would have cost a good chunk of credits, and maybe the caretaker was regretting it now that things had become so tight, but it had stood out to Jazz as an investment in Smokescreen, something the youngling was not going to forget.
Jazz stopped at the platform that led to the Celestial Spires. The walkways were a spiral, a winding path meant to spark meditation in the processors of those visiting. It meant it took breams to get anywhere, but the saboteur thought better of running. If the mechlings were at the temple, they were there, and they were safe. If they were not, he was going to have to think harder, and dig deeper. But his intuition told him this was the place. He hoped he was right. To his left stood the Council Chambers, also called the Celestial Temple. It had been the seat of the Senate for eons, and it still was but the Senate was no longer the seat of government for all of Cybertron, but only for those Autobot states. There were fewer and fewer Neutral states. As more fell to the Decepticons, more joined the Autobot cause, forgiving the sins of passed Primes, and passed senates.
He passed passed the Temple of Primus, within it the Matrix Flame Chamber. The Polihexian did not meditate on the holy sites, they were not so holy to him. Jazz stood for the Autobots, had become the left servo of the Prime, but he did not see the mech as the avatar of Primus or the wisest of mechs. Optimus was as flawed as any mech, and in a position were his flaws could do the worst damage. There was a balance between the stylus and the sword, and sometimes the Matrix-Bearer leaned to much towards the stylus. If glyphs were enough to call Megatron back to the light, the war would have been over vorns ago, and Jazz’s life would have taken a very different turn. Free Wheeler would be alive, not murdered in front of Sunstreaker. His mechlings would not have spent vorns in Polihex, fighting to survive, fighting other younglings... killing... all for Straxis’ sport. No. Life would have been very different.
Tucked behind the taller spires, the Temple of Adaptus stood at the end of the winding path. It had always been meant to be a sanctuary, a place of quiet and restoration. Their number had been decimated during Nova Prime’s reign, where their had been among the number of political prisoners taken under the cover of darkness. The current Priesthood was younger, the acolytes who had been sent into hiding during the worst of the purges. Now they served Adaptus, as much to honour the priests who had saved them, as to honour the god. More than anything, they stood for what the temple had been founded for, they stood for the poor, and the weak, and the abused. Jazz thought them idealistic, but respected their devotion to their cause, and as he walked the last of the path, he hoped they would not turn him away.
“Greetings, what brings you to the Temple of Adaptus?” The Priest of the Gate asked.
“Business, sorta,” Jazz replied. Lying in this instance was probably not the best idea. “Two mechlings, Praxians have gone missing. ‘M hopin’ ya can tell me if they’re safe under Adaptus’ optics.”
“Two such mechlings did come in the mid-cycle,” the priest said. “They will remain here until they feel safe to leave.”
“’M not lookin’ to see’em leave,” the Polihexian assured him. “I come on behalf o’ there brother. Just makin’ sure they’re okay.”
“The mechlings are safe, and will be cared for,” The Priest of the Gate replied. “Give me your designation and I will see if they feel safe meeting with you.”
“’M Jazz,” he said.
The priest step away from his post, and into the temple. Jazz waited, he knew the rules. Thankfully, he did not have to wait long, and the priest returned in less than a bream, and beckoned him to follow. Venting a sigh of relief, the saboteur did just that. A network of honeycombs, large and small, the temple was broken up into a central worship space, places of private worship, and the priory that also served as the refuge. He followed the priest to the tall door that separated the public spaces from the private. A security drone scanned the priest before the door would open, and it was Jazz’s impression that these young priests were prepared to hold off any attempts to violate the refuge with considerably more force than their predecessor. They may have been less idealistic than he had thought, and the Polihexian felt new respect for them.
“Jazz!” Bluestreak cried as he crashed into the adult mech’s legs. “Is Prowl okay?”
“Y’re brother’s gonna be just fine,” Jazz promised. “I saw’m at the medicentre, Ratchet’s taken real good care o’m.”
“I figured you’d find us,” Smokescreen said as he stepped up. “We aren’t leaving until Barricade backs off.”
“I guess that was yer plan,” the progenitor replied. “Clever move, Smokey. Very clever. I hired a lawyer for yer brother, ‘n he’s gonna dig up every piece o’ scrap Barricade’s got in his closet. Ain’t gonna back down ‘til the court sees sense.”
“Might be a while,” the young Praxian said, a bit tartly. Fair enough, why would he have any faith in the process at this point?
“I spoke to Prowl,” Jazz explained. “Explained what I’d done, what I was doin’... He just ‘bout threw himself outta the medberth when he learned ya slipped the SPS. He’ll be glad to know y’re both safe.”
“Tell him I’ll take care of Bluestreak,” Smokescreen said. “He just needs to take care of himself.”
“’Bout that...” the Polihexian said. “So one thing sorta let to another ‘n I sorta asked ‘m to bond.”
“You did what now?” The youngling asked. “Did you make him crash?”
“Eeyup,” Jazz admitted. “Naturally, he ain’t answered.”
“Why?” Smokescreen asked.
“Because I wanna keep ya ‘round,” the saboteur replied. “He was right, he got know habsuite, ‘n no prospects. Even if Barricade does end up lookin’ like waste metal, that don’t mean the court’s gonna wanna hand ya back to him. If ya got shelter, in support, I think it’ll be a quick deal.”
“So you’d bond with him?” The student asked. “Just... like that?”
“I love the two o’ ya,” Jazz said. “The Twins love ya. Seems reason enough.”

Game Night
Birthday present for @valleniel, because she’s awesome and I love both her and Scott <3 I decided towrite for one of my favorite pieces of hers.
“I hate to sound like a cliche, but read ‘em and weep, boy.” Gil grinned smugly as he fanned his cards out on the mess hall table. “Straight. In spades.” He chuckled. “Literally and figuratively.”
“Bloody hell,” Liam groaned, flicking away his own cards. A pair of hearts and mismatched clubs spun to a halt precariously close to the table’s edge. “I knew I had a shit hand, but I was hoping someone would end your reign of terror.” He shot a meaningful look at the freckled brunet sitting next to him.
Scott shook his head apologetically. “Sorry, mate.” He set down his own cards; hearts and clubs full house, and watched Gil rake in his winnings. “So, are we playing another hand?”
“No way. I’m not losing any more money to Brodie,” Liam said ruefully.
“I will also accept favors,” Gil piped up with a smirk.
“Even more no,” Liam retorted vehemently. “I’m fine with hangin’ out longer if you two want, but I vote we pick a new game.”
“Seconded,” Scott laughed.
Gil rolled his eyes. “You two are just sore losers.”
“I think after the fifth hand in a row, it stops being sore losers and starts being smart,” Liam shot back, pushing away from the table to go rifle through the games, puzzles, and other miscellaneous ways to kill time the Tempest crew had collected.
“See if you can find something that doesn’t involve cards,” Scott said jokingly, pushing up his glasses as he watched Liam’s search.
“Like this?” Liam turned, holding a tall, narrow case full of small rectangular wooden blocks.
“S’that Jenga?” Scott grinned. “That’ll work.”
Gil raised a skeptical eyebrow. “What’s so great about Jenga?”
Scott and Liam both stared at him and demanded in matching incredulous tones,  “You’ve never played Jenga?!”
“No...” Gil said slowly. “But I have a feeling that’s about to change.”
“Damn straight,” Liam chuckled, returning to the table and carefully easing the tower of blocks free. “The rules are simple, and it’s more fun than you might think...”
oOo
After a couple games--which he insisted were warm ups and didn’t count--Gil was practically a pro. The delicacy of engineering had made him quite good at being precise. The three of them spent the next three hours not so much playing Jenga as working together to see how tall they could get a tower. Every time it became unsustainable and collapsed in a noisy shower of wooden blocks against the hard plastic tabletop, they laughed and tried again. Scott’s tea and Liam’s beer sat forgotten and rapidly heading toward room temperature after attempt number four very nearly reached twenty-one levels.
“Shit,” Liam groaned when the final corner of the block he was removing caught just a tad and sent the whole thing tumbling.
“Good try, Kosta,” Gil chuckled, helping to push all the loose blocks into a pile. “You just rushed it a little too much at the end.”
Liam just rolled his eyes and built the tower for the next round. “Let’s just try to do better this time, yeah?”
“Thought that was the whole point,” Scott commented as he wiggled the first block free. “Taller each time.”
This tower fared better, if only because Gil teased Liam enough with take it slow, hotshot that Liam glared but was actually more careful removing pieces. It wobbled and fell at twenty five levels, simply under its own weight and balance issues. The next one was up to thirty before it started swaying in a worrisome manner whenever one of them touched it.
Two blocks in to level thirty-one, it swayed without being touched.
“Quite a challenge ahead of you, Scott,” Liam ribbed, clapping one hand on his shoulder and giving it a squeeze. “But I have faith you’ll rise to it.”
Scott rolled his eyes at the intentional pun and cracked his knuckled as he sized up the wobbly structure. “Gimme some elbow room, would you?”
Liam and Gil both scooted away dramatically, careful not to jostle the table.
Scott picked a block, bit his lip in concentration, and very, very gingerly started working it free. Focus, Scott, danced through his head. Focus! (It sounded like Sara, which was counterproductive) Still, the block was halfway free with no sign of imminent collapse. Liam and Gil knelt on the floor and sidled back close to the table, faces mere inches from the very wobbly tower. “’S gonna hit you two in the face when it falls,” Scott hissed.
“Then don’t make it fall,” Gil shot back.
“Yeah, just focus, Scott,” Liam chimed in.
I’m trying. With just the right wiggle, his block popped free. That was, of course, only half the battle, but hopefully it had been the trickier half. He carefully lined it up, and all three held their breath as he lowered it into place.
The tower swayed but remained upright. Scott, Liam, and Gil let out a collective sigh of relief. That’s when it fell, a loud cascade of wooden blocks sending Gil and Liam scrambling backwards to avoid being hit.
“Shit,” Liam laughed, “So close. D’you want to call that thirty one and go again?”
“Or you could go to bed,” a new voice chimed in, and three heads swiveled toward the doorway. Vetra smirked a little before continuing, “It’s one in the morning. You all need sleep. Go to bed, try to beat your record when you wake up.”
She was right, and they knew it. So with some half-hearted grumbling, they cleaned up and went their separate ways. Scott started feeling the exhaustion halfway back to his cabin, and so settled for kicking off his shoes and flopping into bed when he reached it, barely remembering to pull his glasses off in time. With a soft chitter, his pyjack curled up next to him, and Scott smiled as he drifted off to sleep. He might be tired tomorrow(today?), but that had still been a damn fun night.
