PIERRE QUALO, a significant figure in the Haitian Air Force, was once hailed as Haiti's hero. He earned this title by swimming a mile and a half from the coast to save a fellow pilot, Gerard Dufanal, whose plane had crashed into the sea. Interestingly, their bond deepened when they married two sisters from the Mews family, and their friendship remained strong until the end of their lives.
Rest in Peace 🙏🏾

Repost @Bertrhude
A lot of y’all have tagged me in this man’s video. This is my response…
The entire clip was problematic… like how Aaron is justifying the inhuman treatment of Haitians and black people because of something he says happened 200 years ago. Or how he failed to do a simple google search before giving Haiti the title of the most dangerous nation in the western hemisphere. Or how he is claiming Haitians are taking jobs when the Dominican government has recruited many Haitian migrants to do field work Dominicans don’t want to do. There’s so much wrong with what he said, but I’ll spend some time on just one point. Haitians did not enslave Dominicans.
Y’all fear and hate is at the heart of every genocide. I’ve heard these comments before but hearing them in defense of the inhumane treatment of Haitians takes it to another level for me.

LOST TRUMAN CAPOTE STORY PUBLISHED AFTER DISCOVERY IN NOTEBOOK| CNN
________
Shared by Jean Jean-Pierre
Richard, Dane, Jon and Rat:
One day, between 1966 (when I was a freshman at Brooklyn Prep and beginning to devour American literature) and 1969 (when we moved from Carroll Street), your Grandma Lorraine comes home from work and asks me if the name "Capote" - which she pronounced "Kapòt" - meant anything to me. Taken aback, I hesitated. She read the hesitation and said, "No, a writer, I think. I just saw his photo on a magazine cover at the subway kiosk."
"Oui, Maman," I told her, "he is well-known author. Why do you ask?"
"Because I know him. Spent several months sleeping in his Oloffson Hotel room."
And she proceeded to recount the story below:
Capote was sickly. So circa 1947-50, his doctor in USA recommended that he go down to Haiti to get a lot of sun, with a Haiti doctor contact of his US doctor to follow Capote and pursue the treatment.
Your Grandma Lorraine was doing private practice - better money than the General Hospital - and had developed a nice list of doctors for referrals.
One day, one of the doctors contacted her, and told her that he had a very good patient for her. Better still, he was an American who would pay well, and it would be for a good length of time. She would sleep in his room every night.
Sounded like a great gig, but to the young, unmarried Lorraine, there was one hitch: How could she be expected to sleep in the guy's hotel room?
The doctor chuckles, then says, "Miss Vaval, you know me well enough to know I would never draw you into a compromising situation. You will go with me to the hotel this very day, and once you've met him, you will agree with me that you have absolutely nothing to worry about."
Grandma took the job, took great care of Truman for a couple of months, made serious money, and despite neither party speaking the other's language, developed a sort of friendship with him.
And as the doctor had so well understood, Grandma never had a problem with the openly-gay Truman Capote.

December 5th 1492, the first wave of virus landed on a large island in the region of the western Atlantic Ocean that later came to be known as the Caribbean. People that don’t get mentioned in the Haitian revolution
