A Key Moment

I remember seeing this video for the very first time:

It completely blew my mind. I had just gotten a better internet connection and discovered YT (which was still fairly new back then, this was before 2010). At some point, I had the idea to start looking for shaving videos on there - and there were a lot of them! My fascination with shaving and bald heads had already been there for a very long time back then.

Still later, for some reason it occurred to me that the eyebrows were also something that could be shaved. And that was when I found this clip, at the time on someone else‘s account. The quality corresponds to what was normal then, but I think we still get a very good idea of what is happening.

This guy was apparently on a mission to remove all of his hair, which could have included the body hair as well, it‘s hard to tell. He was already bald by the time the video begins and, in front of the unbelieving eyes of the group of friends gathered around him, he then proceeds to have his eyebrows removed as well, first with clippers, then a wet shave.

I don‘t get the impression that he got paid for this, or that this is the result of a lost bet. To me, it looks more like a spur of the moment thing, an idea that is so crazy that he simply cannot resist. A thing he wanted to try out at least once in life, and he wanted to go all the way.

He is so confident that it doesn‘t matter that the others are laughing or making silly remarks, he is sure that this is what he wants to do and simply goes through with it.

I found all of this so unbelievably fascinating - both what he did and his attitude while doing it. I would never be able to look at eyebrows the way I used to again.

Some Side Effects of Being Hairless

Let's see if I manage to keep this post shorter than the earlier ones...

There are a lot of small things that feel different, sometimes very surprisingly so, once you decide to remove hair from different body parts. I will try to share some of my observations here:

A bald head means feeling the cold, wind and rain a lot more. You will be the first one to notice any rain drops and might need something like a beanie rather soon when autumn comes. However, when it is seriously hot, it works wonders to just hold your hands under the tap and then rubbing them on your head.

In my case, removing the brows had the positive side effect of putting an end to greasy stains on the top of my glasses. The lack of lashes also helped keeping them clean. On the other hand, liquids running down your forehead can reach your eyes really quick.

When you remove all of your lashes, closing your eyes feels different. More like skin on skin.

Clothes on a smooth body give you all kinds of pleasant sensations when you move, especially on your arms and legs. Even more so when you go to bed not wearing much or anything at all.

Being hairless all over means that taking a shower takes less time, and drying yourself with a towel is almost instantaneous. Also, with a bald head, there is obviously no need to wash, dry or style your hair afterwards, which saves lots of time as well.

And I rather painfully keep on noticing that head hair works like whiskers - it warns you that you are getting close to surfaces and objects. I cannot count the times I banged my head on all kinds of obstacles.

(The stubble around the mouth is as hairy as I get these days...)

Those who share this experience could surely add to the list, but for now, this is what I came up with.
