As someone who used to be super into McDanno(bought a literal shirt about them voted in fan polls etc.) let me save you the heartache & tell you it's not going to happen. Peter Lenkov will NEVER let it happen & CBS will NEVER let it happen. There are no gay characters on CBS. Peter is just queerbaiting. He's using them to bring in viewers. The show would have been cancelled a LONG time ago if McDanno never became a hit.

First of all, I understand your feelings Anon on that matter, (specially on how ‘love’ can turn into ‘disappointment’, and [sometimes] eventually into hate…)

Yeah, it’s tough being a McDanno shipper (or a shipper in general, bc hello! we are on Tumblr, it’s basically a big support group here xD), and not gonna lie, but, besides ocasional wishful thinking; strings of hope from time to time; and even those leap of faith we give the Network in anticipation on another mid-season/new season, there’s also just the pure sheer of happiness that pairing those two together can bring to lots of folks, for lots of different reasons.

Yes, there are different sup-parts of this fandom, some that just ships them casually, not expecting a thing (but grateful for anything that eventually happen, if happen); there’s also the ones that just wants that to happen, enjoying the ride while not if if doesn’t happen; and of course there’s the ones that just craves it , that wants them to be happy together, bc they’re just meant to be (as if there isn’t enough ‘proofs’ of that along the show of how much good they’re to each other), which it includes me on that part. My point here is, there’s more sub-parts, but it just shows how McDanno can be part of people’s life, makes them happy, with or without them actually becoming canon one day.

On other point you said, about CBS not having gay characters, well, being realistic that is true in some degrees, but I could shine a light on that bringing Start Trek: Discovery, with a tridimensional gay character on the lead (along with badass women on the show), and there’s also Elementary, a show with more than quite a few LGBTQ+ characters on comparison to other shows of the genre (like how there’s lots of organic and natural talking without assuming people are straight; there’s also more than a couple of gay suspects, gay witnesses, and that’s one of many things H50 could learn with Elementary), and the way they’re portrayed, as in regular human beings rather then the ocasional ‘center-of-attention-bc-they’re -just-gay’ like sitcoms regularly does (they also did the astonishing job to create the gigantic bond between Sherlock and Joan, that strong and beautiful relationship, and as far i have watched, with no visible signs of baiting). I know they’ve not the same director/writers/producers, but hey, they exist.

That brings to your other point, the queerbaiting on the show, and yeah, i’m not gonna deny that there is indeed an amount of queerbaiting/shipbaiting/fan service there (it’s a gray area on which is which, but you know it’s there, specially when you watch too many shows and see their differently approach), but is that thing: we get happy that it happened, but not happy for the reasons it happened, like it would be infinity better if that happened for another reasons, but like as I said, it can be a gray area sometimes, sometimes if is indeed for the plot, but after a long time, you start to wonder sometimes….

And now, to the most important point on my opinion here, you said that McDanno will ‘’NEVER’’ happen bc Lenkov and CBS would never allow it, which after some really deep thinking over my almost two year on the fandom now (I think it will make 2 years this month?), can agree in some degree here. but here’s the key words here…’’Lenkov’’ and ‘’CBS’’.

You may be right that Lenkov would never allow it, it simply too much risk to jeopardize so much money and his career (as a matter of speaking) over Representation, Healthy relationships and Well being of the characters, so why put that on the line?. Specially when the ratings are going so strong on this season right now (S9)

But, i’m getting to my point here that, you see, I (often, I think…) talked abt this on my tags when discussing a post abt this point, on how life can be…unpredictable, like things can happen out of our control, even if the possibilities of that to happens are so low, to exemplify this: I (and I believe many many others) never expected to a Director like James Gunn to be dropped on such a billionaire franchise like GotG; how lead/main characters of popular shows can actual be taken out of the show without a proper warning, for alot of different reasons; how personal life can hit/affects directly with the job, ‘forcing’ people to leave, to take their time no matter how ‘big’ or ‘important’ the project was, bc that’s their life after all.

What I’m saying is, there lots of things that can actually happen, that can change the direction of how things are going, despite the probabilities, and I may point some just to exemplify:

The ratings can go really low, unexpectedly, forcing new measures to be taken to avoid a cancellation, that may includes plot twists, and like the name says, things that normally wouldn’t happen/aren’t expected, may happen. (I like to mention Legend of Korra here from time to time, where if you don’t know, at the very very end of the show, confirmed a same-sex shipping of the two lead woman as canon by just showing them holding hands, to surprise of many, but you know, it was the end of the show, what could happen after? drop the views? haters boycott the show? lead to cancellation? ha);

Actors contracts ending, and they may no longer be interested in continuing the show after so long, like more paycheck wouldn’t change that, so maybe a change of winds on how their character is portrayed, would be more challenging for them, professionally speaking. (And part of me believes that this one may includes Scott);

Things could always polarize in Hollywood (or even on the entire USA/World), as in demanding more Representation like’s been happening (not fast enough sadly, but at least with more minorities, not only the LGBTQ+ Community) nowadays, putting pressure on networks to change that, and that could always leads to:

Change of Directing, of approaching, how to deal and continue with a work/project, where it never is the same p.o.v from their antecessor, as like I was talking about earlier, how not only writers can be replaced, but you can replace the cast, the crew, the director, the producers…

Things can go really south and the show be can actually be cancelled, and what Lucifer, Sense8 and Brooklyn Nine Nine taught us is, (despite the odds) Fans have a voice, there’s hope, and it’s a small chance but it is there, and it may lead to greener pastures after all, maybe on one more inclusive and open minded, more receptive, who knows?

So, that’s what I was saying Anon, I’m a really, heavy, with all my heart McDanno shipper, you may don’t even realize how much good they’re doing to me right now in this point of my life, but I’m still a negative/pessimist realist person here, like, I don’t expect this mid-season 9 for them to became canon, like, with all the sneak peeks out there, BTS pics and Fillers of upcoming eps, or the mid season finale Expendable-like on 9x10 or 11, to turn them canon, there’s lots of things i wished it changed, not only McDanno canon, like finally a lead gay character on the team to say at least; but I know that things can change, it changes all the time, maybe it happens, maybe it doesn’t, until there, when the time comes and the final episode finally airs we’ll know for sure, (or maybe even not then, and we need to wait for the final DVD, I’m talking to you How I Met Your Mother alternative ending).

TL;DR Life happens, things out of our control may occurs, we may be surprised with all we get, but we should always try to have a good time here, with the things that makes us happy, and let it go of things that don’t anymore.

In the meantime, I’m gonna stick with those two, Anon, bc they‘re still the light of my life ^^
