Insaniquarium is a really, really stupid game. I love it! Look at the little freak that is Guppycruncher! This is an ambiguously arthropodian creature whose body consists of massive slicing mandibles, a head to power those mandibles, eyes, to seek out its next target, and legs to get it to its prey. Its prey are your beloved, valuable guppies. And best of all, Guppycruncher is your friend!

Here we have a Baby Guppy. The foundation of our entire gameplay experience. Take care of your guppies well, and they will reward you with money! As they grow, their rewards increase, and they may even grow up into a resplendent crowned guppy dropping dazzling diamonds! But sometimes that’s not a viable enough strategy. Sometimes you need money FASTER. And that is where Guppycruncher comes in!

You get no points for guessing what Guppycruncher does to guppies. You do however, get a smile! You are all winners :)

You may think it is silly that, in a game where the goal is to reach a certain amount of money by raising fish, you would intentionally purchase a creature whose sole purpose is to kill and eat these fish before they can even mature. Well, I’m here to tell you that YOU are the silly ones!

See? As Guppycruncher eats guppies, it creates Beetles! Yes, kids, this is where beetles come from! No, I don’t know what an “egg” is! Guppycruncher’s massive jaws make it look quite a bit like an antlion larva’s head, and it functions sort of like the opposite of a real antlion! Guppycruncher eats fish and spits out insects. Meanwhile, real antlions eat insects! And for all you know, they could be pooping out fish underground!

That all being said, I would not be at all surprised if Guppycruncher was inspired by the bobbit worm! Unlike an antlion, it jumps up to catch its prey, as a bobbit worm lunges out from its burrow! It’s like a bobbit worm head with legs. Also, I just want to mention that the butt-like shape of its head reminds me of how big dogs have a butt shape on the top of their heads due to their large jaw muscles! They probably did not have that in mind here, but it is fun anyway.

Anyway, Beetles are where the REAL money is! It quickly becomes more economical to have a steady supply of cheap little guppies in order to feed a growing army of Guppymunchers, since beetles are worth more than currency. But what if you want MORE? More than beetles? Frankly, how dare you ask such a thing. But fine.

Name: Beetlemuncher

“Finally! A use for all those pesky beetles!” -an utter fool

It’s true, I love beetles, and I belittle those who disrespect them, but boy howdy, I love Beetlemuncher, too! Beetlemuncher loves beetles, and in fact thinks they look good enough to munch! However, that will have to wait. Beetlemuncher has a more important mission.

Just kidding! Beetlemuncher’s purpose is to eat beetles. But why? Why continue to extend this cycle of creatures eating creatures? Because Beetlemuncher drops PEARLS! Like an oyster, except these pearls are BETTER, and more valuable.

Just like Guppycruncher, Beetlemuncher is a bizarre but delightful sort of creature! This one is a chameleon head with chameleon arms and a tadpole tail sticking out of it. I love it! In the files, it is known as “gekko”, but I just finished telling you it is more like a chameleon. Please trust me!

So, guppies eat fish food. Guppycruncher eats guppies, and makes beetles. Beetlemuncher eats beetles, and makes pearls. Nothing eats pearls, because pearls are a choking hazard, of course! I hope you have learned a lot about Fish today!

Beat Up Your Fish (For Ca$h)

This works even better in Virtual Tank, because you can control your fish’s movements by right-clicking on the tank, but works in any mode. Get 40,000 shells to buy the last pet, the penguin. Line him up with a fish that can drop money, then click on him. He will “beat up” the fish, and make him drop a little more money. Also found up if your fish is playing music, line him up with the penguin and smack him silent. Works great with Santa Fish.

Get Shells Fast

First you have to pass background 3. Then go to time trial and get the dolphin,the mermaid, and you can chose the last one. Buy two guppycrunchers, and twobettlemunchers. Collect about twenty-thousand money, and you will earnone-thousand shells, Repeat.

Buy Low Sell High

In the virtual tank, buy some guppies (it onlyworks with them). Feed them 3 times each. Tocheat, change your PC date to tomorrow byright-clicking on the time in the toolbar on thebottom of your screen. Feed your guppies 3 timesand repeat. Make sure you feed them 3 times a”day”. They will grow 2 times. Once they’regold-layers, sell them, they will be sold for morethan you bought them for. It works good withexpensive guppies.

Pause Game

Press Spacebar key to pause the game.

Turn On Sandbox Mode

After you’ve earned a silver trophy, enter at the main screen and use the arrowkeys to enter the following directions: up, up, down, down, left, right, left,right, b, a.

Santa Fish

In the virtual tank buy a regular fish and name it Santa. It will play music and drop sacks of money.

Make The Background In Outer Space

Type space while playing.

Unlimited Shells And Last Adventure Tank

Go to the Insaniquarium game files (most likely in system/program data. )Click on userdata, then click on any user (ex. User1, 2, 3etc. ) Open in Notepad and copy everything in there then copy. After that, delete everything in there the paste everything back in. Save and exit. Open Insaniquarium and there you have it unlimited shells and last adventure tank. Remember to make backups of the file before making any changes.

Silver And Gold Trophies

For a Silver Trophy, you have to beat the last boss a number of times, have all 4 bonus pets, 4 pet limit, and 7 pet VT limit (this is about 115, 000 shells but worth it, since you unlock SANDBOX MODE, the place where anything can happen. ) . For Gold, you have to have all the stories from Challenge Mode.

Name: Rhubarb the Hermit Crab

Debut: Insaniquarium Deluxe

I have previously posted about my favorite "fish" in Insaniquarium, but there are many more creatures than just the ones you buy and maintain! Alongside them are Pets of all sorts of species, here to help in their own unique ways. And Rhubarb is my favorite, because of course he is!

I love when a hermit crab is stylized with an eyes-in-a-void face. I also love when they aren't, because a hermit crab is lovely in any form! But they feel like the only animal that can be portrayed with a voidy face as the DEFAULT, you know? Turtles can when they're retracted into their shell, but at some point we decided that hermit crabs can keep their eyes in all the time and It's Fine. I agree! It's Fine. Also fine, though, if they want to peek their darling little eyestalks out!

Some pets are powerful, attacking the aliens that want to kill your fish. Some are generous, helping you earn money faster. Rhubarb? He keeps fish away from the ground. When a fish gets too close, he'll snap his claws at it, scaring it away. You should know that there is no real reason to keep them from the ground.

Rhubarb is ESPECIALLY bad if used in tanks with Guppycrunchers, who wait ON the ground for fish to come down to THEM. Not if Rhubarb has anything to say about it! He'll scare the guppies away from those hungry jaws (which I guess the guppies are not scared of) and cause the poor crunchers to starve...

Rhubarb is, generally, seen as Not Very Good. Let's just refer to his official biography:

RHUBARB has often been accused of being the "worst pet ever". RHUBARB doesn't really care what his detractors think, though. He's not aiming to be a crowd pleaser. He's not trying to prove anything to anyone. He just wishes those darn fish would stay off the ground!

This characterization makes me love Rhubarb even more than I already did, which was a lot! Rhubarb is not very good, and he does not care! He has his own goal, unrelated to YOURS, thank you very much.

As much as I love Rhubarb for his apparent uselessness and his pride in being himself, he DOES have some actual gameplay benefits, in some situations! Mainly, the further your fish are kept from the ground, the longer it will take for the money they drop to fall and despawn. This also helps Starcatchers in particular, giving them more time to catch the stars they love to catch! If you don't have any ground-dwelling vulnerable creatures, then when an alien appears, you can corral it toward the bottom, and Rhubarb will shoo guppies away from the danger zone.

Rhubarb can be helpful, but more important is that he is just being himself, and he is happy to do so! I know people want me to write about the pregnant fish. I don't know if I want to do that. Goodbye.

Name: Starcatcher

Debut: Insaniquarium

“Starcatcher” is such a magical sounding name! The magic of a shooting star, now harnessed by a creature? How delightful! It must be full of magic and made of dreams and it probably even poops diamonds.

Actually, it is a stupid little doofus idiot! And please know that when I make fun of this creature I mean it 100% affectionately, because I love it and I love it exactly the way it is and would change nothing! It does poop diamonds, though. I’ll get to that.

So! Starcatcher is a “Fish”, and it’s easy to think of it as more of a cephalopod with its dangly tentacles, but it only has the four, all in a line! This is, in fact, a relic of a simpler time...

A time when it was an arthropod, in the original version of the game! Basically the same, just with a more vacant stare, and some crabby legs. Starcatcher would end up being a victim of Reverse Carcinization, evolving away from a crab-like body plan! I think it’s for the best it was changed, though. Insaniquarium Deluxe would introduce our friend Guppycruncher, a much more blatantly arthropodian creature, who inherited the scuttley style of legs, and Starcatcher would get new appendages that fit its rounder, softer body. And of course its OwO face!

That OwO face would become more of an 0w0 face, and is really one of the wackiest things about its anatomy! Starcatcher eats stars. Starcatcher’s name indicates that it Catches stars. And I’m sure you have seen the massive gaping hole in Starcatcher’s head. It’s noticeable. And that’s how it eats! Stars fall into that hole, and are eaten. That flower pot hole is a dang mouth! Then is the cutesy cat smile just for show?

It is not! When a Starcatcher begins dying of hunger because its gaping mouth hole has not been filled with celestial objects, its smile becomes a frown! So it IS a mouth, just not used for eating! At least not for eating stars. Maybe in the wild it forages on the bottom of the sea, and catches detritus in the top mouth? Whatever the case, it poops diamonds, and that makes it economically valuable.

Where do Stars come from, anyway? Space? No! That would make sense! They come from Fish. Regular Guppies drop Money, of course, but Star Guppies drop Stars, and that’s Better! Also highly unnatural, but don’t tell anyone. If an adult Guppy eats a Star Potion, it will become a Star Guppy! But an immature Guppy will instantly explode and die upon trying to eat the potion. It is not appropriate for children! But yeah, Star Guppies drop Stars that Starcatcher catches, and Starcatcher makes Diamonds which are even better than better.

Anyway, I would not be surprised if Starcatcher was an entirely unnatural being, since it seems to die almost immediately if it is not fed the byproduct of mad science. What a life this thing lives! The little doofus idiot. Wonderful creature!
