Hexsquad's favorite anime

Ok, so, there's absolutely no way Luz didn't teach the gang about anime from the human realm. And we know Dragon Ball Z exists in canon. So, without getting into Luz herself....

Amity: You know she loves romantic anime, I'm positive Revolutionary Girl Utena hit a cord with her. And we also know her and Willow binged Sailor Moon and a bunch of Magical Girl stuff.... But I think Amity likes Slice of Life anime, even the ones like Azumanga Daioh and Nichijou.

Willow: Again, magical girls, sure. But also, much like Hunter, she's chest deep in shonen like the rest of us. I think she'd love My Hero Academia, probably also Bleach and Jojo for sure. I also feel like she leans towards horror, which she watches with Vee and Luz.

Gus: Shonens for sure, but just about anything that's visually appealing. He totally loves Jojo, FMA Brotherhood. Probably likes Eva but understands that a lot of it is problematic. Also, he and Hunter thrive on mecha and sci-fi. When they found out about Captain Harlock, they damn near lost their minds.

Hunter: One time, he was sick and he and Luz watched Naruto. That boy had feels for days from that. He looked right at Gaara and Naruto and went 'they're just like me fr.' Also, I think Hunter occasionally builds gundam kits with Gus and Matt. Just the boys having fun building kits and talking.

Vee: Our favorite cinnamon roll is into horror and psychological thrillers. Sure, she will throw herself into a romance or shonen, but, like... Eva's right there, same with Boogiepop Phantom, Monster, and Paranoia Agent. She also totally has a Death Note notebook and got her Uzumaki books signed by Junji Ito at a convention. Oh, and she totally loves musical anime, especially ones with hard rock and punk themes.

timothee chalamet in dune convinced me i actually have to rewatch gundam wing immediately. this show slaps so hard from minute one. right away zechs, inexplicably dressed like he’s in a painting about the french revolution and wearing a phantom of the opera mask, is like, “i’m a true soldier, not like those thirsty losers.” heero is like, i am clearly and obviously a totally unhinged child lunatic who loves murder almost as much as i want to die. he falls into the ocean, washes up on shore, comes to at the sight of relena shaking him, tries to self destruct, punches a bunch of EMTs off some stairs, and steals their ambulance. relena, the richest girl at her boarding school who gets chauffered around in a pink limo and is so popular the other kids talk about her like she’s beyonce but doesn’t get enough attention from her dad, sees all this go down and instantly, INSTANTLY, is like, “i need him carnally.” this is of course before the iconic scene where she invites him to her birthday party and he rips up the invitation and when she starts crying he wipes away her tears and whispers in her ear “i’ll kill you.” the first time we see treize he is wearing opera goggles??? i love Art that makes Choices (is about crazy people).

For Woman's Day, i decided i draw Tory wearing and performing the showtimes in different attires based on a new game that's coming out on the Switch in a few weeks called Princess Peach's Showtime. So Tory is doing different Roles like Princess Peach does, we got her in detective, figure skating, a Ninja, a Mermaid which her Mermaid attire looks different even though it's the same as her color attire, which i bet it would be perfect to use the Mermaid attire for Mermay if she and her friends want to do a showtime with them. And we also got her in a Swordfighter attire which Tory has never sword fought before, i hope her Brother and her Best Friend will help her out. Especially if she's trying to act like she's playing Musketeers. And we have Kung Fu which i bet she would love her attire with all the flames. Then we have her Cowgirl attire which i bet it would be perfect for her anytime she wants to go up north with her dad and her brother when they want to go the Western style towns by the mountains. We got her Mighty Hero attire which looks just like what you expect the Power Rangers or Mobile Suit Gundam, as well as for being in one of those Saturday Morning Superhero Cartoons. We got her Patisserie attire which works a lot like a chef's attire like if anytime Tory wants to cook and be a chef and bake really cool treats and meals. And Finally we got her Thief attire which it's not use for the Pokemon Phantom Thieves, but it's just an actual Thief attire like if the Ramcats or their friends want to dress as Actual Thieves compared to the Pokemon Phantom Thieves, which it is the same category of when it comes to working as a Thief. And there you have it, all 10 of her costumes for her to perform a showtime. Tory 😺🩰: Wow! This is really amazing how i can perform a Showtime for Woman's Day! My friends including my family will love this! I'll see if i can have Lisa and the others to do a Showtime together with me and we can all dress up in different showtime costumes. Plus i bet my Mermaid attire looks nice and even my Figure Skating one, since my Figure skating does fit my ballet attire, which i'll try this anytime i want to figure skate, since i have never figure skated before. Happy Woman's Day Everyone! 😄

Everything I Watched This Year

I have watched the most movies this year of my life, which is still so few that I can fit them all into one tumblr post, so here they are in approximately chronological order (along with TV shows). I almost exclusively watch visual media with other people, and they're often the ones picking. Favorites get an asterisk (*), and this does not include rewatches.

*Fallen Angels (Wong Kar-Wai): Five loosely connected lonely people chase imagined versions of each other around the Hong Kong nightscape. I didn't go into a plotless arthouse film expecting it to be extremely funny, but it is. He Zhiwu (my new tumblr icon!) deserves to be up there among the deranged autistic blorbos of all time.

What We Do in the Shadows (Showrun by Paul Simms and Stefani Robinson) [First half of S4]: If you're on tumblr you probably know the premise already. I was disappointed that after S3, which felt like a build to huge shifts in the characters and status quo, S4 felt like a walkback. Don't remember much else about it other than crying laughing at the sequence where they try to get baby Colin Robinson into private school.

Brokeback Mountain (Ang Lee): Everyone knows what this movie is already. It's well-made and solid, but it wasn't anything that exciting for me. I expected it to be more striking. Love the 70s home production design in that one scene though, and that kiss truly is good.

*Velvet Goldmine (Todd Haynes): A reporter tracks down the truth of a rock star gay affair that sparked his own queer coming of age. Dreamy, gorgeous, and I could not describe the plot scene to scene if you paid me. Just a really lovely film to experience for me, someone who had latent and unnamed transgay feelings as a teenager about the concept of "emo boys kissing."

Phantom of the Paradise (Brian De Palma): Phantom of the Opera-inspired drama about a songwriter getting revenge on the predatory producer that ruined his life. Total delight of a campy melodrama.

Kamikaze Girls (Tetsuya Nakashima): A delinquent and fashion-obsessed scam artist strike up a lesbian-tinged unlikely friendship. This movie is bananas. Way more stylistically experimental than I'd expected--there's a sequence of the protagonist's birth, people just float offscreen sometimes, the townspeople constantly turn to the camera and advertise for the megamart they buy all their clothes from, etc. A really really surprisingly fun watch.

*Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury (Hiroshi Kobayashi and Ryō Andō) [First 6 episodes only]: Optimistic young pilot of a war machine that she may have an illegal psionic connection with goes to space high school and is promptly drawn into political plotting via accidentally getting gay engaged to a corporate heiress. Highly enjoyed the parts of it I saw - great action sequences, fun character drama, and just enough political substance. Not as weird as Utena, which it's inspired by, but can be brutal where necessary. I should watch more!

*In the Mood for Love (Wong Kar Wai): Two Shanghainese emigrants in Hong Kong discover their spouses are cheating and embark on a tragic affair of their own. God, this movie deserves every bit of praise it gets. I gasped out loud multiple times at the gorgeousness of shot compositions. Top notch acting, gorgeous colors. This tends to be a movie pitched as being about a repressed love affair, but it's also a movie about the positionality about being middle class colonial subjects and the relationships they have with the world. This gave me so much to chew on after I watched it.

Happy Together (Wong Kar-Wai): Two Hong Kong expats living in Argentina have a toxic gay relationship trapped in a tiny apartment. This one felt very opaque to me, and it is allegedly an allegory for Hong Kong being returned to Chinese rule after British colonialism, which I absolutely do not have enough background to really get. Wong is a great director though, and I constantly think about the sequence of the main character seeing the abusive ex walk into the club, beat while he finishes his drink, and then he breaks his bottle off and goes in to screams.

Bound (The Wachowskis): A lesbian handyman falls for a woman married to an abusive mobster that they plot to rob. The first 45 minutes were very enjoyable as a lesbian heist film. Unfortunately, once the gunshots started the torture scenes became so stressful for me to watch that I sweated through my shirt. (I also had Covid).

Delinquent!Gudako Character Info

(Because I realized I haven’t really elaborated enough about her. Also I use Ritsuka and Gudako interchangeably but you get the gist it’s the same person)

She’s half Japanese/half Welsh. The Welsh part comes from her Father’s side of the family. Ritsuka never bothered learning Welsh before coming to Chaldea because the bad association with her absent deadbeat dad. But after some convincing, she picked up some of the language from the Knight of the Round Table (Mostly from Bedivere)

As for her mother, Ritsuka doesn’t remember much about her before she died. 1) because she was so young at the time. 2) because she almost doesn’t want to remember the only other person from family that loved her knowing she’s already gone.

Boxing is her preferred form of fighting, but the training she got from Scathach, Beowulf, and Leonidas made her more adept at Mixed Martial Arts.

Will NEVER admit that she has a massive inferiority complex about her magic circuits being kinda crappy compared to everyone else. It’s another big reason she trains as much as she does. Overcompensating for something beyond her control.

I think I mentioned before but, a massive reason why she’s so dense is because of her low self-worth. Aside from her Grandpa, there wasn’t anyone else that was willingly to give her the time of day either because they feared her or hated her. She didn’t have other people she could call friends and most people would avoid her. So the concept of anyone might be attracted to her is baffling.

That entire event in Shimousa involving Shuten really fucked with her head for a good two weeks. Waking up in the middle night, phantom pains on her abs, feeling like she’s about to vomit blood when she wasn’t. No one else aside from Musashi, Kotaru, and Dantes knew what had happened because she begged them not to speak of it. Eventually Nightingale and everyone found out about it after they pressed her for questions.

Ritsuka is still human in this AU. It’s just there are certain oddities about her that would make people second guess it. She can see in the dark without her eyes having to adjust, she’s alot more durable than most humans even before the training, and her inhuman appetite. Little things like that make you think something about her is…off

When I mean inhuman appetite, Ritsuka can eat about 2/3 of Barghest’s Valentines Day gift. ON. HER. OWN. Baffling to both Chaldea Kitchen Staff and Saberfaces alike.

A big part of why this version of Gudako is compatiable with so many servants isn’t just because she’s an average human. She’s an average human who had to learn how to empathize fast ever since Singularity F. She didn’t care about other people that wasn’t her Grandfather until she met Mash. So learning she was capable of even that small bit of empathy was new to her and something she had to work on.

Ritsuka use to hate maguses. Especially towards those that work at the Clock Tower. It’s only after she got to meet people like Olga, Romani, and Waver that had her think maybe all maguses aren’t completely awful people.

She learned Mandarin and Cantonese just she so could cuss out Yu Mei-Ren in her language. Same thing with Jalter and learning French because Ritsuka is that petty

Ritsuka actively tries to not cuss in front of child servants since she thinks it would set a bad example for them.

You can’t debate her with about G Gundam NOT being the best series because she will give you a 10 page paper on why you’re wrong.

She’s actually self-conscious about the scar on face. Not because of how it looks (although it doesn’t help), but because it’s a reminder of how powerless she was when it happened.

If this Ritsuka was ever a servant, she would be either a Rider or a Berserker.

Gudako has a habit of repressing all of her trauma, anger, and anxieties because her everyone still needs her and dealing with it is a hassle. This will have consequences later…

Despite being a delinquent, Gudako still has a code of conduct thanks to Grandpa Fujimaru. Mostly her being against fighting the kids and the elderly even if they are servants.

Game: The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

The way I discovered TotK's big twist was absolutely incredible and haunting and devastating and, while I still would've loved the game deeply if I hadn't had this happen, that I did just made it that much better. When things line up in a game so something special like this happens, it's truly unforgettable.

Movie: John Wick: Chapter 4

I can think of multiple sequences in this movie that kept going on and on and the whole time I was yelling (in my head) "HELL YES! HELL YES!"

I! Love! Well! Choreographed! Action! Sequences!

Show: Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury S2

SULEMIO! SULEMIO! One of my top five TV shows now, contender for favorite anime. A life-changing watch. I loved Witch from Mercury more than life itself. I have....several kits to build still...

Song: Phantom Liberty

Kinda sacrilegious of me to not have an Alan Wake II song here, but I'd be lying if I said that Phantom Liberty's main theme didn't do things to me. Especially hearing it after the ending I got.

Sadly I didn't get to any books that were released this calendar year. Did finally finish reading all the Witcher books though, which cemented them as my favorite series in literature. Especially enjoyed Baptism of Fire.

Did you know that I’ve never built the actual Strike Freedom until now?

I’m aware that people say Strike Free’s design is very try-hard, but if I’m being honest, as a model it’s rather unique; inner frames that aren’t gray/dark brown are fairly rare, it’s got alternate hands- and for a kit with a Funnel-type weapon that isn’t the Nu Gundam, each of its Dragoons are its own piece. Add to it, it’s got weapons that can combine. Plus, it’s had numerous variants over the years, from the edgy Love Phantom, to the dynamic Amazing Strike Freedom, to the weapon-heavy Perfect Strike Freedom-

My point here, is Strike Freedom is a fairly versatile kit that spawned even more unique builds along the way. And if I’m being honest, customs made from any of them are pretty fun to make.
