okay, but where's my steddie AU where steve wants to learn to play guitar to impress a girl he's infatuated with and he remembers that munson kid was always hanging up posters for his weird band at school, so he hikes out to eddie's usual dealing spot behind the track and asks (with far less groveling than he really should have) if eddie will teach him how to play, and obviously eddie says no because why would he want to help king steve, but of course, steve offers to pay him, $20 a week, and well, that's the kind of get-the-hell-out-of-this-shithole-town cash eddie really can't afford to refuse, so fine, he'll teach steve to play and they'll spend inordinate amounts of time together tucked away in eddie's room and they'll start to see that they have more in common than they thought and that they kind of had each other all wrong, and eddie will put his hand over steve's to help him get the placement for a tricky chord and it totally won't awaken anything in either of them?? where is it??
edit: i started writing it

when tara can finally stumble her way through a song on guitar, what do you think she learns to play?
liability
i kept thinking and thinking and thinking about this and it made me realize even more how hard it would be for tara to play. like, painfully hard, seeing you almost always need your middle and ring fingers for the chords. so i wasn't sure if tara would start by learning a song she likes or just a random one in an "easy songs to play for beginners" list.
taking this into consideration, she'd probably list a few songs she wanted to learn and check which ones seemed easier to play.
one she wanted to learn (and i think could be the first!) but took a while was dreams by fleetwood mac; not because it was particularly hard, seeing the song mainly focuses on two chords (F and G), but the positions were kinda hard and it hurt a lot when she first tried it.
i wanna say at the point where tara decided to learn how to play, she was giving therapy and physical therapy another try. and whenever she did try to play and her fingers were shaking, her grip wasn't firm, or holding it for more than a few seconds hurt so much she had to open her hand and put the guitar down, it motivated her even more to put an effort into her next physical therapy session.

So now that Elphelt is a death metal singer(for some fucking reason) she should let some of the other musically inclined cast members feature on some of her tracks

As much as I love and adore Loveless as much as anybody whos been changed by it lol I do think m b v as an album holds up to being just as good as a follow up. I remember when it dropped we were all so happy and hyped for it and did see it as good and enjoyable but it's funny how like Loveless' legacy and I guess the proceeding influence of it didnt give much room to see m b v as beyond just good and solidly an MBV sound.
Which is unfortunate because I think Shield actually elevated some of the original pallet of sound the band established for shoegaze in Loveless. Like the sounds in it feel even MORE expansive, all encompassing, and wide than they did in Loveless; far less grounded despite the heavy bass and kick drum sound prominent in it. Just purely empryean and oceanic at the same time; I remember listening to it for the first time and the opening track literally felt like being a tiny spec floating in the ocean.
