Having run into a issue I had to fill some burn holes and smooth and flatten the body again
Tumblr media
Wanting a easy win I painted and finished the neck and painted some of the hardware
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Started painting the body a nice purple and mid paint decided to also make a wooden pick guard to make it even more of a strange shaped beast
Tumblr media
With a bit of effort and more paint the initial build was completed
Tumblr media Tumblr media
At this point I spent a morning setting up the guitar to actually play well and feel how I wanted before adding some finishing touches to the design
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And here she is as it stands now. I've got a new electrical rig and pickups in mind which should be installed sometime sooonish....

So I bought another guitar recently...
I’ve decided to base this next project on Billie Joe Armstrong’s iconic “Blue” stratocaster from his Dookie days in the early 90′s with songs like Basket Case, Welcome to Paradise and Longview. I’m going all out on this one as I’ve purchased all I can get my hands on with finding as many as parts accurate to the original. Though I am NOT changing the neck as I like it as is.
The reason why? Well, after watching Green Day’s performance at 2019′s Game Awards where they performed Welcome to Paradise, I was like, I want to make my own Blue replica. Plus, seeing several YouTube channels do the same before me, this further fueled my desire to go ahead with this idea.
Just to further reiterate, I don’t care if it doesn’t look right. I personally like how the guitar looks overall.

all the album and music polls going around this site have radicalized me… votes abound for insert contemporary white punk/pop/metal/indie rock artist and yet for a dollar you cant name a black blues or soul or rock n roll (or ska! or reggae! or dub!) artist … are you not embarrassed? its like trying to do calculus without learning arithmetic. where do you think any of this came from! western popular music would not exist without black music, point blank. do you, tumblr user, understand what that means, or did you just reblog an info post about sister rosetta tharpe once and call it good.

Built a guitar from a kit over the weekend as a late birthday gift
Tumblr media
Showed up in pretty decent condition with cheap electronics and a fairly okay base to build up from.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Using mainly a rasp I shaped the body to make it hold close more comfortably then beveled the edges to make it look a bit sharper
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After spending some time making custom wooden plates then filing and sanding the bridge logo I ran into my first issue
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I attempted to burn them stain the body purple but the varnish I was using for the project didn't like the dye and I had to seriously rethink the build and end result I wanted.

Please excuse all the crap in my living room, I need to sort it all out. No joke.
Anywho, here is what I’ve been up to lately with my most current and recent build, the Dave Grohl tribute Stratocaster. Now, why Dave Grohl and not anyone else? Well, the idea came to me out of nowhere when I was browsing through Ebay and then, I saw it. The body that you see now.
I am in absolute love with the blue! It just really pops and with the black pickguard & Chrome parts make it look even better!😍
Parts used: Unbranded Squier Strat body, Vanson HH Scratchplate Pickguard for Fender Stratocaster, EMG Chrome pickups (57 in the bridge, 66 in the neck) with shaft pots, EMG 3 Position Toggle switch for Stratocasters & Bridge and neck reused from my EVH strat build from Feb-Apr this year.
Gonna paint the front end of the headstock black just like Dave’s DG ES-335. Might add a logo on afterward. Maybe. Who knows.

you know, i was thinking about frank and his fixation on the Frankenstein's Monster character, and how it's always been this thing with him. I think it started by liking the character itself, especially the old hollywood frankenstein films. The drama and the story telling of the old films is alluring and the morbidity of the story Frankenstein itself is alluring, and we know that he loves the dark stuff.
Though, i really think that all started to shift at some point, once he started breaking bones and specifically after the accidents that threatened his ability to continue playing. So when I heard him talking about finding these frankenstein guitars and those being the ones he loves the most, it made me start to think: gosh does he see himself a little as a frankenstein, sort of like the guitars he collects, after everything?
i mean, we've heard it multiple times: he believes the only thing he's good for is making music and if he doesn't have that, he's nothing. He can't be there for his family and he can't be there for himself. We know just how hard he was taking the surgeries on his wrists. Heard him talk about his fear of never being able to play anymore and time and time again, we hear him talk with affection and wonder about some of his favorite guitars being what he likes to call frankenstein guitars, that he finds left in small music shops.
It makes sense though, doesn't it? He had to be stitched back together and made to work again. Learn to live again, struggling and fighting for it, and when he finds these mix matched guitars built with spare parts he finds them perfect because they play the way only they can play and it's exactly what he needs. He craves loving the weird mashed together creations, after all, isn't that what happened to him? a frankenstien collecting instruments he sees himself in, he sees music as his only real purpose here and maybe two frankensteins can carry that out together.
