Pec: 9 10 12 13 16 39; Jules: 5 7 24 25 41 44.
PEC:
9. Is your character’s current socioeconomic status different than it was when they were growing up?
oh my god yes. now, he’s the thane of multiple cities across skyrim and he owns like five houses currently and he’s the arch-mage of the college o winterhold and he’s a member of the thieves guild and and and…!!
when he was growing up he had very little that was just his, and now he’s got all of that and a family to boot. he’s doing very well for himself :’)
10. Does your character feel more comfortable with more clothing, or with less clothing?
i’ve been keeping him in light armor/thieves guild armor, and before that i had him in robes for the early parts of his journey, so i think i’d say that he feels comfortable in less clothing in terms of armor, but he does like to be fully clothed as often as possible. he’s shy.
12. In what situation was your character the most calm they’ve ever been?
after he got married (he’s married now! to sylgja!) and adopted his son (he’s got a son now! named blaise!), and he was able to come to his home at winstad manor, after dealing with all the quests in solstheim. he was away from home for a very, very long time while he was over there, and he worried a lot about leaving his daughter, lucia, home alone, even if she had the dog, meeko, and the house steward, valdimar, there to keep her company. he decided that that meant that it was a good time to actually get married, and the first person who came to mind, as i slogged through all these quests, was sylgja, so i reasoned that that meant that she was the one he was really in love with. SO! i went to talk to her, and after being gone from skyrim for aaaaaages, the first thing she said to him was the standard “it’s a fine day with you around” greeting, but that was just the amount of kindness needed to make that choice the right one! and then, pec ended up upon the farm that blaise was working at one night, and saw the kid sleeping on the floor of the stables, and went “NOPE” and woke him up to adopt him right there.
so, coming home to a full house after being away for so long, was a really nice, very peaceful feeling, especially after feeling out of place during pretty much the entire time away.
if he could give valdimar a raise for taking care of lucia while he was away, pec would have done that already. but he’s gonna hire a pretty bard to play at the house and keep val company instead.
13. Is your character bothered by the sight of blood? If so, in what way?
nah, he’s an orc. blood doesn’t bother him unless it’s his and he’s seeing too much of it all at once.
16. Which does your character idealize most: happiness or success?
happiness, in his heart. the success that he’s accumulating as he goes is consequential to this duty that he has to save the world….and once he does that, he gets to just settle and relax with his family. so he’s idealizing his future happiness for sure.
all the other orcs shake their heads at him for being a big dumb squishbaby
39. Has your character ever been bitten by an animal? How were they affected (or unaffected)?
YES HE GETS BITTEN BY ANIMALS ALL THE TIME. he’ll just be walking along and then get absolutely mauled by skeevers/wolves/bears/giant spiders/sabrecats/fucking DRAGONS etc etc.
at first it was really jarring and upsetting to him (and me, cuz i used to get startled by them), but by now he’s just gotten so used to it that it’s like this “*SIGH* okay, here we go again…” kind of reaction on his end. though, even with his “been there, done that” attitude, he still occasionally contracts diseases like ataxia and rockjoint, so he can never really shrug off the attacks, cuz he’ll need to pop by a shrine to get rid of them before everyone he talks to worries about him looking sick.
JULES:
5. On an average day, what can be found in your character’s pockets?
her phone, her keys, her ID, a few folded up bills (all under $20), some loose change in her jean pockets (probably under $3), 3-5 forgotten hair elastics, and several receipts in the back pockets of her jeans that she meant to throw out but keeps forgetting about
and, if she’s lucky, a few hard candies or sticks of gum
it’s noteworthy that she doesn’t keep weapons in her pockets!
7. Does your character have recurring themes in their nightmares?
mhm mhm she still has bad dreams about her sister dying, or, more generally, being in hospitals with no way of getting out (jules was ten when her sister got sick, and she literally got lost in the hospital a few times and it was all very traumatic and scary for her). hospitals are her big no-go zone and make her uncomfortable even when she’s awake, so in nightmares they become ten times worse.
24. How quick is your character to trust someone else?
superficially, she’s pretty quick to trust, if only in the sense that she doesn’t just assume that anybody and everybody is out to get her, or that they even gaf about her. if someone isn’t acting shady, she’ll be fairly pleasant towards them. but in terms of Getting To Know Her, she’s a fair bit more guarded and rarely gives more than she needs to, so there’s definitely walls up as well. she keeps her personal life very separated from her professional life, so if someone tries to dip into one from the other she’ll hustle them back to where she thinks they belong pretty quickly. and once someone’s proven to be shady or unreliable she’ll close up on them almost immediately. i’ve compared her compartmentalizing to “stacking boxes on top of boxes” before, and that’s still really true.
but, on the other hand, if someone does prove to be trustworthy, she kinda opens up really suddenly and eagerly, because she does want to have close bonds with people, it’s just that People Are Tough. this tends to happen accidentally, though. like, one day when she’s not paying attention, someone scurries into her heart and she’s like “crap. well. guess i care about you now! *protects with life*”
sometimes those boxes fall over and the contents spills out and it’s hard to sort back to where they originally belonged, y’know?
25. How quick is your character to suspect someone else? Does this change if they are close with that person?
this is definitely a follow up to that last part of my previous answer: it definitely changes if she’s close to someone acting shady. jules will absolutely not believe that someone she trusts has betrayed her until they have literally shot at her, and even then…y’know…sometimes that’s just what happens, y’know? no hard feelings when it’s for a good reason, right?
for example: if, and this is not a scenario that’s ever happened, but, if it was revealed that there was a mole who was feeding information to the enemy, and someone suggested that it was newt because of a huge pile of pretty convincing looking evidence? she would still be like “nope. nope. it’s not him, you’re wrong.” and get very defensive, in part because her trust in someone really does just turn into deep faith in them as a person, but also because if someone she’s close to could break her trust, then anyone and everyone could (!!!) and she…doesn’t want to have to think about that. she isn’t equipped to handle that kind of thing.
but, if it’s someone she doesn’t like, she’s almost gleeful if they get revealed to be suspicious. she feels vindicated and kind of smugly wants to go deal with them just for the satisfaction of feeling right not to trust them. she’d be a fun rival or nemesis just for that reason alone.
41. Does your character feel that they deserve to have what they want, whether it be material or abstract, or do they feel they must earn it first?
honestly, she doesn’t really know what she wants for herself. she devotes so much of her energy to just doing her job that if you were to ask her “what do you actually want, though?” she wouldn’t have an answer for you. and that’d make her feel really bad and uncomfortable and she’d get grumpy and leave.
BUT. she would definitely feel like she would need to earn anything good that was coming her way, regardless, lol. she’s very “oh, you don’t deserve bad things/you deserve better” to everyone else, but “not me tho lol” about herself. not even in a self-loathing way, either, she’s just bad at applying the things she says to herself, for better or worse.
44. How easy or difficult is it for your character to say “I love you?” Can they say it without meaning it?
i don’t think she’d say it if she didn’t mean it, unless it was a case where the person she was saying it to knew that it wasn’t for real (ie: if they were undercover or something). but she says it very easily to the people that she does love!! it isn’t easy for her to really reach that point with people, but jules is very all-in once she does care about others, so she has no hang ups about telling people that she loves them! she’s a tootsie-roll pop: hard outside shell, mushy sweet inside.
character development questions meme!

Rereading Harry Potter has just made me want Calliot to have a plot like the episode of Brooklyn 99 with the crossword guy, but instead of the crossword guy, it's a guy about to get drafted for the Chudley Cannons.

lantern, orchard, spice, fog, cinnamon
lantern - how did you meet your best friend? What were your first impressions of each other?
Well, my best friend is my twin sister… so womb. And first impressions? My first memory is of what my family called the climbing tree and I climbed up to see my sister sitting on a branch. (We were about three.)
orchard - share one thing that you’d like to happen this autumn.
Job. On the less practical side, at least a couple of weeks of good autumn weather and the maple tree in front of my house to turn red instead of ugly yellow. (The first year we lived in this house, it was a gorgeous red. That was the only year it was that color.)
spice - have you ever encountered a house that you believed to be haunted?
In the condo we lived in in California, Mom said I used to stare up at a certain part of the ceiling and they would hear footsteps going up and down the stairs.
fog - how well do you think you’d do in a zombie apocalypse scenario?
Not well at all. I don’t have anywhere near the practical skills necessary to survive an apocalypse. Do I want to learn some of those skills? Yes, if only because I write non-modern-tech fiction and feel that I don’t know nearly enough.
cinnamon - if you had to live in a time period different than the present, which would you choose and where?
Does the future count? I want to be able to visit the moon. Also there’s this whole thing about antibiotics and medical care and feminism and oh, being a Jew in almost any other time period and location would be… fraught. So the future. Definitely the (good!) future. I can briefly pretend I’m not worried about the planet.

greenhairedtomato replied to your post: So I’m thinking about D&D and the ways that queer...
yeah i’ve told you about my group before because it’s exclusively women and not entirely but LARGELY queer so that’s a big emphasis. and for a while they were trying to become a full-on organization like the main RPG organization in my city. They had meetups and workshops and wanted to have several different games going with different DMs, but they seemed to kind of let that go because finding venues and enough people was just not working out.
Yeah, I would love to have a group like that, but organizing seems difficult. Like I live in a huge city, I’m sure there’s enough interest, but finding meeting places and getting things actually organized seems impossible.

greenhairedtomato replied to your post: the hardest thing about doing theatre reviews is...
personally I try to prioritize lesser known productions over the big theatres in town because those big theatres have plenty of money to spend on marketing and are already kind of an establishment whereas a lot of people in town don’t even KNOW about some of these smaller productions. but it depends on your theatre scene too.
that’s what i’m leaning toward! our theater licenses a lot of musicals to draw in bigger crowds, i think to kind of offset the quieter plays that might not get as much traffic. and a lot of those plays are written by local playwrights, so it would be nice to give them a spotlight. :)

greenhairedtomato replied to your post: Melania Trump wore a jacket with this message...
I think she was perfectly aware of her tone. Someone like Melania Trump dresses very deliberately whatever she does. She knew what she was doing.
If she did know, that’s even worse and I hate her. Fuck me, why not show a little compassion
aaaaahh this made me so angry

Ughhh that sucks. I can understand when people have issues with someone tripping up the party at every opportunity because they’re “playing to character” but that’s…not what you were doing? And you did exactly what your very frightened character would do that’s what you should have done
the thing that bugged me most was it was kind of a slow progression?  in early games with that gm, they rewarded good rp - for better or worse, which was helpful because i was still getting my sea legs at a serious game.  By the end, it was literally like “make the crazy choice or youre boring why are you playing” and i was like .... no this character would NOT DO THAT even for inspiration?  so like?  No???

8. Oldest WIP
My Nano 2010 novel, I think. I wrote the first draft for Nano, obviously, and it’s a novel I’ve wanted to rewrite since then. I tried once fairly recently and practically killed the idea. But I still want to rewrite it because I love the characters and world; I just don’t really have a plot.
27.  Favouriteline/scene
Ooh… This changes moment by moment. The ending of my Silmarillion fic “A Tyrant Spell Has Bound Me” still sends good shivers down my spine.
34.  Whatwas the hardest scene you ever had to write?
I’m tempted to say anything involving romance! I’m not great at it and I struggle to master the indications that say people are romantically involved instead of being platonic friends. (Seriously– I find it easier to write torture than romance.) I’m better at established relationships.
Honestly, though, I can’t point to a single scene and go, “This was the hardest.”
48.  What’sthe most self-insert character/scene you’ve ever written?
I don’t base characters off myself or anyone I know, so I can’t answer this question.

"Party of One" by Brandi Carlile?
couldn’t listen all the way through | not my thing | it’s okay | kinda catchy | ok i really like this | downloading immediately | already in my library
How did you know that I’ve been listening to Brandi Carlile pretty much constantly? Admittedly mostly The Story because my introduction to her was a Pandora channel I mostly listened to 4-5 years ago, and since then, that’s become one of those albums that’s sort of become a part of me in that I can just listen to it on loop and know nearly every word of every song. But, man, I should really listen to her newer stuff, because it sort of has the same effect of being completely unrelatable in any literal sense (what do I know about relationship struggles when I am constantly endlessly single) and yet perfectly able to capture my frequent wistful gay mood. It also seems that she’s moved slightly more acoustic, which is a thing I generally like. (I don’t know if the use of Pachelbel’s Canon is something I should forgive or applaud, but those are solid orchestrations.)

13. Most forgiving VS Most grudgeful
lol “grudgeful”
this one made me realize just how bad most of my OCs are at forgiving people, cuz so many of them would have such petty grudges when they’ve been wronged… i just checked the “OC negative traits” post i did and all of the ones i did that meme for have “vengeful” either italicized or bolded l o l
but, going backwards for a second, fletcher straight up has people killed when he’s holding a grudge. like, probably about 25% of the jobs that he’s had gambon take for him involve killing people that he’s just kinda feeling vengeful towards, so i’d say that he’s the most “grudgeful”.
comparatively, joseph’s pretty good at forgiving people. a big chunk of his personal plot involves forgiving his parents, which is a big deal! so he’d be good with forgiving others too, no problem! but, also, fraser is pretty forgiving, in a surprising way. he’s still good at holding a grudge when he’s presented with a rivalry (ie: why him and jules don’t get along for ages, cuz she loves perpetuating that shit), but he’s consistently the first to offer his hand to call a truce when he thinks he’s got a shot at one, and a good reason to call one. i think it’s cuz he knows he doesn’t have a lot of real friends, shh
17. Judges a book by its cover VS Judges mostly by personality
fraser is VERY “what you see is what you get”, so he kind of expects others to be the same. he knows that people hide things about themselves, obviously (he’s dumb, but he’s not that dumb lol), but he’d still probably assume that his first impression of someone was right until proven otherwise. this is actually intentional on my end, because my initial concept for him was “adam fraser: generic cannon fodder Guy; toxic masculinity personified” because he was originally supposed to just be a dude who died early on and he wasn’t supposed to have likeable traits so no one would miss him. but then i went and explored how he’d get there, which resulted in a complete overhaul of his character and motivations (new and improved! now with added depth and nuance!). so, his “book by cover” judgments are just this sort of this nod to his original existence, which was literally someone you could judge at first glance, cuz there wasn’t anything else to him!
judging by personality falls right into the laps of both renata and jules, because they’re both women who operate in male-dominated spheres, so they know all about there being more than meets the eye to most people. renata is still surrounded by wolves in sheep’s clothing, so she has to assume that there’s a persona behind a persona behind a persona in most people’s cases (as is the case for herself, too!), whereas jules is often put into positions where she’s backstabbed and has to fight for her life, or she’s fighting for her life and is assisted by someone she would never have expected to help her, so she’s learned the hard way many, many times that she can’t afford snap judgments of people. she refuses to comes down with a hard-lined idea of what a person is really like until they’ve proven themselves one way or another. that tends to make her look like she’s got a loosey-goosey approach to most people, but she’s really studying them very closely to try to figure out if they’re friend or foe.
19. Cast iron stomach VS Most squeamish
oh god, fraser can, will, and must try absolutely any awful concoction you throw at him. if you’ve got a character who is a godawful cook and you still want someone to fearlessly offer themselves up as a guinea pig to that person’s culinary reign of terror? fraser’s your guy. he’ll try anything. he’ll find a chip in the couch cushions and, if it isn’t covered in lint, pop it into his mouth. and he’ll be perfectly fine!
fletcher, by comparison, has a hoity toity palate, and will only eat/drink stuff that he trusts. if he needs to, he’ll slum it down in coffee shops or diners, in order to either meet with people he doesn’t want to have seen in his office, or to intimidate people, but he won’t order anything because. ew. one time i wrote him eating a fry off someone’s plate, trying to act like he was part of the ~”scene”~ of this diner, and then he immediately, casually, spat it into a napkin. because ew.
23. Best at self-care VS Most self-destructive
fletcher takes very good care of himself. because he can afford to. and because he’s pretty vain and materialistic. but, mainly, it’s because he has a goal that he’s striving towards, and he knows that he can’t get there if he’s falling apart and miserable. so he is definitely the best at that sort of thing.
i don’t get to compare these characters to one another often, but jules is absolutely the opposite of that. she isn’t consciously self-destructive, but she is a mess in her personal life. she’s always getting the shit beat out of her on ~missions~ or just on plain security detail for the family she works for, she never gets a full night’s sleep (so she leans on caffeine something fierce), about the only time she gets a proper meal is if she drags her butt to a diner or she goes to family dinner at her parents’. she does go out of bars to let off steam and she does make bad life choices while she’s out there. and, yeah. she’s got her shit together for work, and takes very good care of her employers and their kids, but she’s not so great at taking care of herself.
24. Most flirtatious VS Most modest
jules flirts a lot and fraser flirts a lot but neither of them can beat out newt, who flirts with everyone. is it sincere flirting? maybe! maybe not! but as long as it’s not making anyone uncomfortable, he’ll make flirty comments to anyone he can get away with doing it to. it’s not quite the blatant “i am unquestionably hitting on you” ~charm~ that fraser lays on women, but newt will weave together flirtation into genuine compliments and greetings and banter (”how are you today, aside from being unfairly beautiful? d’you have that report i needed?”), that it’s really just part of how he talks to people. and, if that kind of thing is reciprocated, even better!
the opposite of that should probably be “who is the least flirtatious?”, and that would be gambon, because he just doesn’t care. but, most modest implies something more than just apathy towards flirtation, so for this i would have to say conrad! he gets flirted at a lot (again, newt. but also jules), but it almost perplexes him that he’s noticed in that way? it doesn’t annoy him or anything, he’s just kind of like “o…kay? thanks?” because he’s got stuff to do! why are they hanging around his work space and telling him he’s good looking?! that’s nice and all, but…shoo! he isn’t not receptive to it (it flatters him, and once in a while he’ll humor them back, just cuz none of them are being serious-serious about it or are they), but mostly he’s just like “can you go tell me that i’m pretty from the doorway? you’re standing in front of this screen that i need to look at. …. :)”

I highly doubted you voted for Trump given you were adamantly not a fan leading up to the election. I'm more surprised you voted for Hillary because *I* did that reluctantly. But I'm also just picturing this person doing the woman math meme now.
Oh, I’m always reluctant. Every politician sucks. XD
