Meet the Road Kings MC Portsim charter

While not the most original with naming, the Road Kings extend throughout the south towards the border. Road Kings Portsim has an auto garage that helps them with club expenses, however, its rumored they are no strangers to shady dealings.

Now it's time to meet every patched member with a place on the Road Kings MC table of Portsim charter. Starting with Curtis Church, the president.

Continuing with the vice president Rocco Palma and the STG at arms Joey Reyes

Then the road captain Daniel Riggs and the treasurer Jamey Woodson

Patched members are Neil Butterfield, Kieran Painter, Dale Kauffman and Ofelia Muños.

There are two prospects, JD Reyes, brother of SGT at arms Joey Reyes; and there is also Clay Grayson.

Last but not least, while not part of the club, this two women have given their life for the club and shown their commitement. Dayna Carey on the left is the wife of Curtis Church, the president, while Rachel Walker is the girlfriend of Daniel Riggs

Lately @threewaysdivided 's OlderBrotherDanny!AU has been occupying the majority of my brain space so I've just had to draw a few somethings for it 🥰🥰

We've been volleying ideas and headcanons back and forth about this AU and we've come to a consensus about a few significant features:

With the exception of his eyes and nose, Danny is the spitting-image of John Grayson while Dick has mostly inherited Mary's facial features

Danny and John share the Grayson family tradition of Big Bushy Brows™️

Since 3WD and I are big fans of the Danny-Has-Very-Light-Blue-Eyes train, @threewaysdivided has come up with an awesome headcanon that Danny's unusual light eye color is a weird recessive trait that pops up every few generations in the Grayson family

The reason that Danny was adopted out at birth is that he was born premature and with congenital defects that would have made it unsafe for him to be part of the troupe, least of all a traveling circus

I have to say, drawing baby Danny with his little messy mohawk has given me a lot more joy than I expected it to, I can't stop looking at it 🥺 I love looking at Brother!AUs, they never fail to make me reach for the Kleenex.

👻 What is one WIP you think you may never pick back up?

Funnily enough, I don't have any of these! The closest thing is my bird painting, which has been languishing as a result of my moving house twice and just not having the time or table space.

I know myself well enough to be aware of my tendency towards completionist over-commitment to stuff. I tend to hang back on actually starting projects that need more than a couple of weeks unless I'm ready to actually see them through. WIP-projects mostly stay in my head or as...

🧠 What’s an idea you have that you can’t quite call a WIP yet?

There's actually couple of these in a fairly developed state that have stayed bunked in my brain either because I didn't feel like spending the time to turn them into prose with all the connective tissue, or because they work in that liminal dream-sequence brain-space where I can blend from one scene to the next and hop in and out of flashbacks for context but I would have no idea how to structure them as an actual story that makes coherent sense to someone else.

A run-down:

YJxDP Brother's AU story concept #1, building on this starting point. Dick finds out from Jack Haley that he has an older brother, only to discover that Fentonworks is gone and the trail is completely cold. Meanwhile Wally finds himself getting drawn into the life of a new classmate at Keystone High, who seems to be estranged from his family, is perpetually tired and a bit standoffish... and who looks an awful lot like an older Dick Grayson at first glance (but that has to be a coincidence, right? Because Dick doesn't have any living family.) First impressions can be misleading and the more Wally looks the less certain he is that they're related but the more he notices other things. Most importantly: that this is a person who needs help and maybe a friend.

YJxDP Brother's AU story concept #2, would completely not work in writing as it would fully rewrite both canons but basically exploring the concept of "what if they DID grow up in the circus together and somehow got separated, lost contact and then reunited as heroes", going into the loss, hurt, anger, distance and misunderstandings that would come from being suddenly split apart from your only remaining family with no warning. In which Dick is sitting on the kind of vicious anger that only a deeply hurt child can, Danny has been drowning in the guilt of a broken promise for five years and a certain someone has been interfering with the mail because the timeline needed both Robin and Phantom. A lot of shouting and crying ensues. The other reason I probably won't write this one is that it turns Danny into a distinctly different character to his canon counterpart.

Danny Phantom AU where the Fentons are not malicious but are also not very good as parents due to hyperfocus on their work. Jazz leaves to try and make a safer place where she can eventually petition to get custody of Danny. Meanwhile Danny - in attempt to be "part of the family" - volunteers to participate in some tests with ectoplasm that make him increasingly unwell and eventually into a halfa whose ghost form is shaped by his parents anti-ghost rhetoric and is mostly used by them as an anti-ghost countermeasure. Even though Danny is the same person in both forms he and "Hunter" aren't treated that way, and he ends up feeling as though "Hunter" needs to conform their ideas about about ghosts (not feeling emotion, not feeling physical sensation etc) - which is not a good thing for him and inadvertently makes him a lot of enemies among the ghosts that come to Amity Park. After struggling with that on his own for a while, he eventually leaves to be with Jazz and has to slowly learn how manage being a halfa, and to unlearn most of the things he's internalised about both ghosts and himself with the help of Jazz and some ghostly allies he stumbles into finding.

💖 What do you like most about your own writing?

I think it's probably best said in this quote from C.S. Lewis:

I wrote the books I should have liked to read. That’s always been my reason for writing. People won’t write the books I want, so I have to do it for myself.

That's a pretty good summary actually. I started writing Deathly Weapons because I noticed these consistent gaps in the DP x DC (mostly DPYJ or DPTT) fanfic collections at the time, where certain ideas or opportunities weren't getting used and I really wanted to see them.

Specifically some stuff that I like and/or am looking forward to doing:

Causality - I try to make it so that things have a solid in-universe reason to happen. It's totally not necessary for fanfic (its perfectly fine if a story is just an excuse to put your blorbos into interesting positions) but I like to make things feel a little bit more grounded. Especially when it comes to missions in fanfic, often times I kind of found myself wondering why the Team's covert squad was being deployed on certain missions rather than other heroes - it's just one of those things that I like to have an answer for in my own stuff.

Fair-play mysteries - I'm writing for myself but I'm also writing the story that I wish Baby 3WD could have found, and part of that is I think readers like to feel clever, not stupid. I love leaving little hints that point to stuff that's going to come up later (for example, in Chapter 18 I tried to foreshadow Nano being tied up in the cupboard behind the boss before the Team even knew a hostage was missing from the main room) - I feel terribly witty while doing it and I super love hearing when people notice. Two people left comments speculating about some character stuff that's going to go down in Equilibrium and someone else already DMed me with a correct guess at part of the final twist and I love all of you. It's fun to give people the chance to realise what's coming before the characters do.

Character specificity - this is probably more of an upcoming thing than a current-chapters thing, but I really enjoy digging into the specifics of characterisation, character motivations and character relationships. And especially when it comes to grief arcs. I don't know how successfully I'm going to pull off Flashpoints, Combustion and Equilibrium but if I can get even some of the character stuff to work, I'll be happy.

Descriptions - settings are fun and I like describing them, especially when they also set scenes and build mood. I feel like its a part of writing that doesn't see as much love in fic (again, totally fair, we're here for the blorbos) but I love doing it. The oil rig setpiece was fun, I liked giving Wayne Manor a sense of its own personality, and I'm really looking forward to stuff like the jungle setting in In the Mists, the mountains in Rituals, the night sky scenes in Enemy Lines and a lot of gentle flavour descriptions wrapping through Equilibrium.

Tonight, Clay's boyfriend Troy is coming over to prepare sushi together, there's many things that need to be taken care of before cooking though.

Sweeping, getting rid of the beer and soda cans in the living room, and picking up laundry from the floor are some of the things he has to do. After taking a long shower, he is ready to receive his boyfriend Troy, however, someone else shows up at brothers Grayson's home with a knock on the door, no one else than their cousin Tara.

Tara: "I need you to help me Clay"

Clay: "What are you doing here? did aunt Maggie drive you?"

Tara: "Maggie doesn't know I am here, I need your help, can you drive me downtown? My partner is waiting for me"

Clay: "You are sneaking out on a date? Sorry Tara, I can't go against your mom"

Tara: "haven't you ever done things like this for love?"

Clay remained silent for now, remembering his escapades back in his hometown, when he was deeply in the closet.

Tara: "My mom doesn't like my girlfriend, hell, she doesn't even know she's my girlfriend, please help me"

Clay: "If your mom finds out you and I are in big trouble..."

Tara: "She won't find out, she thinks I went to a friend's house, you are gay, can't you comprehend me?"

Clay: "what are you talking about? how did you even know?"

Tara: "You blocked a friend of mine in Grindr after he said he was 18, you sent him a face pic before that"

Clay: "Tara, I can't...."

Tara: "If you aren't helping me I am walking there on my own" and so she started to walk away.

Clay: "Stop! Fine I will drive you there! I am not letting you walk half this town and something bad happen to you"

Tara: "I knew you would understand, thanks!"

Brothers Grayson depart their aunt's home after meeting the family and make their way home on their pick-up

After driving through half of Portsim, brothers Grayson finally make it home.

Hank: "Now I get to wash my teeth, that food was bad"

Clay: "Since when do you wash your teeth?" he teased "I liked the food"

Hank: "When have you not liked any food? And what the fuck was even that? it tasted like shit only fancy people think it's good"

Clay: "it was aubergine parmesan, it was good, and Maggie said it was from a local restaurant"

Hank: "What the fuck is aubergine?"

Clay: "Eggplant"

Hank: "I fucking hate eggplant"

Clay: "They are good people, I have had better food, but it was good"

Someone, as soon as the brothers parked came out to greet them, their kitten Dakota who had missed them.

Sometimes Clay and Hank do small woodworking, plumbing or gardening jobs to earn extra income when the restaurant is closed; today brothers Grayson decided to spend some time relaxing on the local watering hole after a particularly annoying day at work.

As night progressed, both brothers started to get a little drunk, then an argument started between Clay and a local patron.

Clay: "Your argument is the best warning against inbreeding"

Man: "keep talking with that pretty mouth of yours and...."

It was hard for Hank not to notice the argument between his little brother and the man.

Hank: "...and what happens? stay away from my brother asshole"

Clay: "Brother, lets go, he's not worth it"

Hank: "Stand up!"

And so Hank and the man started to fight, it started to attract the eyes of everyone at the bar, some with more interest than others.

Hank: "stay away from my brother asshole! last and only warning!"

Hank's MC travels away from PortSim to a secluded region of the state bordering the Appalachian mountains, a town named Blue Hollow, a coal mining town.

Curtis: "I need you all to be on your best behavior, Tania McCoy runs this town, trading with her will be good for us, you all keep your mouth shut and let me talk to her"

The McCoy cabin was not too far away from the pitstop the MC had stopped by, the matriarch and her sons awaited.

Tania: "Welcome to Blue Hollow, I am Tania McCoy, and these are my dear sons, Abel, Mike, and Donnel, you are free to run amock the property, Curtis and I have stuff to talk about."

Curtis: "Keep an open eye boys" the MC president instructed, then he headed inside.

The day before brothers Grayson had gotten to rest all day without any worry in the world, however the day after that Hank was expected to help the MC with some tasks that would include driving all the way to another town.

Hank left his house on his bike (pretend bikers use bicycles normally) before the afternoon, meeting at a warehouse near Portsim's downtown.

The MC meets with a certain slimmy fellow who will help them store precious highly sought after cargo in his warehouse.

Curtis the MC president, Hank, the brothers Joey and JD Reyes and Ofelia (the only woman actively inside the club) will travel to the region of Blue Hollow, a region in the mountains north of Portsim to meet with the buyers of the cargo.

Hank has to make a call before leaving.

Hank: "Clay, dumbass, I will leave town for some days, don't get all scared if I don't come back soon like you always do ok?"

Clay over the phone: "Should I worry?"

Hank: "Nah, I will tell you about it when I am back over some McDonalds or something"

After helping drive his cousin Tara to the park to secretly meet her girlfriend Steph, Clay lets her go on the condition of driving them home and to not get too far and stay safe. Sadly because of this, Clay had to text his boyfriend to cancel the date they were having to cook sushi.

Tara: "Did you miss me?"

Steph: "A little"

Tara: "On a scale of 1-10, how much?"

Steph: "11"

Tara: "not too bad"

Steph: "did your dad drive you here?"

Tara: "No, my cousin, remember I told you about them?"

Steph: "The one that blocked Bryan from Grindr? the one who always uses a cowboy hat like he is in Texas?"

Tara: "Yes, the blonde one"

While Tara is with her girlfriend, Clay has an idea about how to spend his night.

Clay: "Hey, Troy, it's me Clay, but you already know that's me, do you want to come have some ice cream?

Troy: "Ice cream? isn't it a little cold?" Clay could hear the sound of his boyfriend's laughter behind the phone. "Sure, but you have to explain to my ogre boss if I get ill and don't show up to work tomorrow"

Clay: "If your boss gets stupid I have some friends to take care of it" Clay joked "the ice cream store downtown, next to the city hall and the park"

Troy: "Switching off of my pajamas and I'll be there in 10"

After Clay's cousin Tara speaks about her intention to travel half of Portsim for a date, Clay decides to take her there.

Clay: "Who's the lucky girl huh?"

Tara: "Her name is Steph, we both were scouts as kids"

Clay: "No way, you were a scout? I used to be an eagle scout with Hank back home in Millervile"

Tara: "She is still with the local group, she loves bugs, and clouds and flowers and, she is perfect" she spoke with a smile on her.

Clay: "I need you to promise to not escape like that no more, ok? if you need me to drive you somewhere so be it, but I don't want you walking this town so late, whether you are alone or with someone else, after hearing about the women disappearing in this town, I don't want to risk that, hearing about that Whitney Byrd case..."

Tara: "Okay mom" she said mockingly but then her tone became more sincere "I will, I promise"

Clay continued driving with an awkward silence, no music, only the motor of the old truck.

Tara: "I actually knew Whitney, she was in my high school, but she was a little older than I, I didn't know her well, but I had been to her house, you know?"

Clay: "I wouldn't want anything like that to happen to someone I know, back in my town there was a similar case"

Tara: "Steph has a podcast, she talks about unsolved cases and crime, she tried to get into the case but the police told her to stay out..."

Clay: "Stay out, don't need whoever did it with their eyes on Steph and you."

Tara: "It's the park over there in the corner, that's where I am meeting her"

Clay: "I will stay nearby okay? I will drive you home and your girlfriend if she needs it"

Tara: "it's cold outside anyway..."

Clay: "Before you go, what's the deal with Maggie and you, and your girlfriend?"

Tara: "Steph just chooses to be herself, but Maggie doesn't like that, she almost threatened to remove my nose ring herself when I got it, she has an outdated mindset"

Clay: "Is she..."

Tara: "homophobic? yes, she doesn't like Steph much because she thinks she's a lesbian, and also that she is corrupting me"

Clay let out a dissapointed sigh: "I'm sorry"

Tara: "I can't wait to go to college and leave, you know?"

Clay: "If she doesn't accept you, Hank and I are your family too, keep that in mind"

A couple of days passed since brothers Grayson had dinner with their aunt, Hank still visits the MC clubhouse near PortSim's river almost every night, tonight, the patched members are meeting. .

Hank is still a prospect, its been only a few months since he joined the MC, so he is not allowed to go into meetings, instead, he gets to stay outside and watch over the bikes with another prospect, JD

Unbeknownst to Hank or JD, things are not going very well inside the table room.

Tensions inside keep building up until the club's treasurer storms off the room, slamming the door behind him.

JD: "Did you see that? It don't look good"

Hank: "I heard yelling inside"

Hank calls out: "What's going on in there?"

Treasurer: "Stay in your line prospect, not your business"

Curtis: "So much for brotherhood, asshole" Curtis mumbled, thinking of Jamey, the treasurer of the MC that had just stormed off.

Curtis: "Prospects, if you have ANY doubt about this life, leave, you are either all in, or you are out, I had enough of false brothers, you have one week, hard times are coming".

As the afternoon continued the Grayson family received their food delivery.

Auberdine parmesan was on the menu that night, there they would get to meet Maggie's husband and Tara's father, Mike Hornos.

Mike: "And then we were sitting in the street and when this lady walked by he said 'I like coffee, but I prefeer having tea' and turns out that lady was his sister-in-law! HA!"

Tara was not amused by the joke, and the others didn't understand it either

Mike: "it's funnier in spanish, because it's a piropo and it was his sister-in-law, but he didn't realize, then she slapped him and kicked him in the..."

Tara: "Dad, even in spanish it is not funny"

The conversation kept on going and Mike, Clay, and Hank had a lot in common, while Clay and Hank sometimes did odd jobs with carpentry, repairing and other things, Mike was a constructor inspector, they all had similar interests and got along quite well.

Clay: "Thank you for inviting us and for the food aunt Maggie, I don't want to overstay our welcome here so it's best we head home"

Maggie:"Yes, your side of the city gets dangerous when its dark, thank you for coming to meet the family, please come back soon alright?"

Hank:"Will do"

Maggie:"I will have those pictures copied and sent to your house dearies"

A few hours after meeting their aunt for the first time in many many years, Brothers Grayson get to have Thanksgiving alone at home.

Clay: "Do you think aunt Maggie has a big family? I checked their neighborhood online from the direction she gave us, they are pretty nice houses"

Hank: "Yeah, she looked like a Real Housewive, her way of talking, clothing, she just has the type" Hank spoke with a calm tone of voice, compared to his brother's excited tone, a tone that was short-lived.

Clay: "Why did you decline her invitation? I thought you would be excited about meeting...." Clay asked softly

Hank: "It feels like too soon, we barely know about her, don't you think there was a reason why our parents never talked about her? or this family?"

Clay: "Whatever they chose not to talk about, it went with them to the grave, this is our chance to have a family again"

Hank: "We had a family back in Wisconsin"

Clay: "you had them, I couldn't bear to be there anymore Hank, that town did such harm to me, even our family..."

Hank: "Sorry for bringing it up"

Clay: "It's scary to think this family side will not be accepting of me if they knew... not being able to introduce Troy to them as my boyfriend, but I don't want to hide, I want them to be good, I really do, I want this to work, I want Portsim to work"

Hank: "If they don't like that, fuck them, we have been on our own for a long time, us against the world, maybe we are meant to stay that way"

Clay: "Us against the world"

Hank: "If it means so much, let's send her a message, meet her and her family" Hank offered a smile to his brother

Clay: "Thanks asshole" Clay laughed and Hank in turn offered a smile.

It's Thanksgiving in Simport, brothers Grayson don't have any celebration plans other than spending the day home on their own. After looking at the map of Simport they remembered their grandmother Agatha is buried in the local graveyard.

Clay: "I wish mother had brought us here for grandmother's funeral"

Hank: "You ever think of why she never did?"

Clay: "I asked her once, but you knew her... she said nothing"

Hank: "She was a woman of a few words"

Time passes as Clay and Hank offer some prayers to their grandmother's grave, a woman notices this and approaches.

Woman: "Do you mind if I join you gentlemen?" the woman had a strong southern accent

Hank: "Go ahead"

Clay: "Did you know Agatha?"

Woman: "I more than knew her, she is my mother"

Hank: "are you Maggie?"

Maggie: "Yes, are you Hank and Clay? I haven't seen you since Clay was newborn"

Maggie: "It's lovely to see you both again, why don't you come over for thanksgiving tonight and meet my family?"

Hank: "We can't, we already have plans tonight"

Maggie: "It's alright honey, come visit me someday alright? I live in Waterview Street, house 24th, alright?"

Clay: "We will aunt Maggie"
