Moderoid God Gravion, SolΣGravion, and GodΣGravion

Another series I’ve never seen, but bought a bunch of model kits for when I was on a Super Robot building kick. I somewhat regretted the purchase until I started building them, and the build ended up being pretty fun. I ended up buying all 3 because of the premise of combination, which is its own thing we’ll get to later.

The Good: Unlike many other Moderoids I’ve handled, which use a lot of replacement parts and cheating, these guys don’t require much of it at all. You remove the head wings and horns so the helmet will fit, and a single piece from one of the flyers, but that’s all that’s required. Yes, they each come with a replacement torso, but it’s hardly necessary. Apart from that, Sol has cannon extensions, and the transformation hands are smaller, but that’s all they require individually to transform.

The combination is also pretty solid. It requires a lot of adapters, but has ok posability, and won’t easily fall apart.

The Bad: So these builds require a lot of replication. Both ΣGravion are exactly the same apart from the color of their chins, and both Gods have the same auxiliary vehicles apart from the legs. And you’d think that owning just God and SolΣ would be enough to make Ultimate Gravion, but GodΣ has all the required adapters, so you need to own all 3 even though only 2 of them combine.

Speaking of the combination, when I said it required adapters, it requires a lot of adapters.

The Details: For the most part I stuck to standard panel lining and using the included stickers. The one additional detail I added was I repainted the scar on ΣGravion’s cheek red to make is stand out more, as well as the small bit of scarring where the left eye used to be since that was left blank.

Overall, It’s a good collection of kits, but GodΣGravion is entirely repetitive pieces if you’ve built the other two, but is also required if you want to make Ultimate Gravion. It’s a weird conundrum, and one I’d recommend you mull over yourself to determine if it’s worth it or not. I like Ultimate Gravion enough as a design that I’m ok with it now that I’m far removed from purchasing it, but I’m not everyone, and mileage will vary.

much as i love this show and would obviously love More Bravern in general i am just. genuinely terrified by the idea of a sequel/spinoff/whatever FNDNCNNDNCNDN. obviously nothing’s been said either way yet and but with how unexpected of a success it was in jp it seems like it could be possible and augghhhhhh………mayhaps i will change my mind whenever i get around to watching gravion zwei cause tbf idk how obari does sequels but like. as a Gainax Show Enjoyer its like i always say. you can’t make another flcl by making more flcl and so the idea of trying to recreate what made bravern so special to me is like. idk if it would work yknow!!!! like. even putting the “wtf would the plot be” situation aside, bravern is a very specific story and i do worry that things that i like abt it would be watered down if that makes sense. like having ONE gattai (which sidenote. why tf did gattai get translated as FUSION it buggs the hell outta me LMFAO) is such a brilliant move but idk if that would continue to be true if they made a sequel yknow??? but then again there are sequels to completed stories that i like quite a bit like dynazenon/griduni and diebuster so like. i assume it would be possible and i just gotta trust the process but STILL. LMAO. i suppose they could also do the “first timeline” story but tbh the idea of bravern without bravern himself there just sounds so depressing to me, i like that the story is happy and fun and that the ending refuses to be sad :[

also if there was a sequel i just. i worry that it could feel potentially unsatisfying w regards to smith/isami cause like the way the show ended was quite abrupt and tbh it rly did feel like they HAD to cut it off there bc everything after that single frame was Not smth that could be aired on japanese television. FNDNFJNDNDNDNSN. and obviously idk the intricacies abt what specifically can be shown but i do know that companies are still Like That abt queer shit. and i’ve said it before but i do strongly believe that bravern the show being so explicit abt it was probably helped by smith being bravern during the latter half and not a Human Man. and idk if they could pull that off again in a way that is satisfying to the audience if they want to progress smith/isami’s relationship any more? unless maybe if they outright market it as bl and maybe make it an ova instead FNFNCJNDNC although i suppose maybe if they. wait actually i did make this joke to a friend the other day hang on let me grab the image

I'm enjoying Gravion as a dumb, fun, horny mecha anime (like made by a guy who does hentai levels of horny), but I also have my guard up in case it pulls some Bullshit. I don't feel like I was tricked and immediately need to stop watching like I did with Godannar, but it's already got some stuff that's a bit Weird or Off. Not quite so much that I can't try to brush it off, but I got my eyes on it.
