Everything Right/Wrong with Ninjago “Rise of the Serpentine” E12: Rise of the Great Devourer

Disclaimers: Show owned by LEGO. This is not a professional review/critique - it’s mainly intended for comedy.

- Episode title gives away its own ending ❌

- Intro ✅

- Also, according to Netflix, the episode is titled, “Rise of the Great Devourer,” but the episode itself says it called, “THE Rise of the Great Devourer.” My entire viewing experience is ruined /s ❌

- No part of Wu’s vision actually happens in real life ❌

- If Cole is so airsick, why is he just chilling out on the open deck of the Bounty? ❌

- “Hey, Cole, you’re looking a little green over there. How’d you like a mucus salt sandwich?” Jay is an a*shole ❌

- “Who would’ve guessed Little Lloyd Garmadon…” Little Lloyd Garmadon ✅

- “Where is that little runt?” Runt ✅

- “Serpentine, it’s time I spinjitzu you back into the filthy holes you came from…” I… I just love him, okay? He’s such a dumba*s, and a child, and I just <3 ✅

- The passage of time in this episode is absolutely ridiculous. It’s night for a moment, then day, then night again, and there’s no way enough time passes to actually make it make sense, so I’m just gonna sin it all here ❌

- “Ships don’t fly - only planes!” Birds don’t exist in Ninjago. Or flies. Or dragons, apparently. Or- ❌

- At this point the voice-swap thing has happened so many times that I literally ran out of jokes to make about it ❌

- “Butts are for sitting,” Only the wisest words from our favorite master, huh?

- “But even the sun must go down so that a new day begins.” Yeah, and then it rises again, which is actually a much more accurate description of Wu so I’ll give it to them ✅

- There is absolutely nothing securing this wooden board to the Bounty’s deck ❌

- Why did they drop the fangblades? Wouldn’t it have been better to just take them with and throw them into the volcano while they were going to grab Wu? ❌

- This ninja-chain thing is one of my favorite moves the ninja do. I don’t know why but it just shows their teamwork and how well they understand and care about each other so d*mn well ✅

- “Thank you, Cole.” Very blatant favoritism ❌

- “Someone or something has overwritten the system!” Actually he threw a sledgehammer into it, but sure ❌

- “Uh, cliche?” ✅

- “I’m not trying to defeat you. I’m just trying to keep you busy until the calvary arrives!” ✅

- “I hit him! I hit him, guys!” He sounds so proud of himself 😭 ✅

- How is a tour bus gonna go faster than a helicopter? ❌

- Lloyd please don’t throw the suitcase full of magical weapons down the staircase. Like there’s nothing objectively wrong with doing so I guess but still ❌

- “You’re too important now that you’re the chosen one.” Lines like this fuel so much potential for angst ✅

- “If you look off to your left and behind you, you’ll find ninja!” They don’t have to look out to their left at all, actually ❌

- “That is no truck; it is a moving fortress.” Still just looks like a bus to me ❌

- They said that Venomari venom was powerful stuff but Fangpyre venom gave that bus machine g*ns!

- WHERE ARE THE SERPENTINE GETTING ALL THESE MOTORCYCLES FROM? WERE THEY IN THE BUS?!?!? ❌

- Lloyd flying the Bounty ✅

- Also Green Bean if you’re gonna do this please get a stool ❌

- “Don’t let them reach the front!” “I’ll personally see to it myself!” Fun fact: Skales does absolutely nothing to prevent them from reaching the front. Like he literally doesn’t even try; he only even runs into Cole and gets immediately yeeted off the d*mn bus.

- “What? You try fighting up here!” ✅

- “No, no please!” This man legit BEGS for his life and Cole f*cking detonates him. Granted, Skales was the one who hypnotized him, sooooo go off king? ✅

- Also, H*LLLLLLL NO. Skales just took a godd*mn missile to the chest, there is no way he survived that ❌

- Love that Zane just holds Kai ✅

- “Who’s first?” *Wu rushes forward and detaches the car* Oh for f*cks sake not this sh*t again I swear to all that is Ninjago why the f*ck does he do this every godd*mm time what the actual fu- ❌

- Wu genuinely thinks that if he, his four super-powered ninja, and a massive, metal samurai all go in to fight the ONE (1) snake person who’s only weapons are invisibility (not very helpful in an enclosed car that he needs to arrive at Ouroboros) and a stick, they’ll lose. ❌

- “How do we get off this thing?” You use the vehicles literally attached to your backs, dumba*s ❌

- “This is really boring…” Nya, you. Have. Rocket boosters. ❌

- “You’re getting slow, old man.” I do have to hand it to them. Regardless of whether or not it was intentional, there are actually quite a few lines between Pythor and Wu that make much more sense with the context that they both fought in the Serpentine War ✅

- I don’t know if the sin should be that Pythor was about to eat Wu or that he was gonna eat the hat with him… ❌

- “Be FREE to do MY BIDDING.” Say that again, Pythor, but slower this time. ❌

- “What is that creature underground?” Idk man. Why don’t you take a guess… ❌

- “You must do everything in your power to defeat the Great Devourer…” Especially since it won’t be my problem to deal with anymore LOLZ🤪. But seriously the reason that so many of Wu’s sacrifices don’t work for me is because there’s little necessity to them. He didn’t NEED to get eaten by the Great Devourer, just like he didn’t NEED to take the Sword of Fire to the Underworld in the pilot, or didn’t NEED to fight Pythor alone a few minutes ago. In all of these instances, it just caused more problems. ❌

- I GREATLY appreciate the notion of completely ditching the lego-style character designs because there was simply no way for them to make the Great Devourer look this d*mn cool had they kept with it. ✅

Okay stuff from last night!

Talked to Jaime again, she said they had something else in the venue beforehand so she had to set up all her decor again and we had to stop her almost tripping over her tinsel but god she was just so damn sweet again

I think they like honestly sat me in tier 2 when I had tier 3 tickets but 🤷🏻‍♀️ It meant I was closer to their audience walkthrough than I was the first night which becomes relevant lmao

So yeah then I saw this man walk in with flowers and I was like I THINK that’s Andrew but I honestly didn’t think it looked tall enough to be him because I know he’s tall 😂 But then June came and hugged him so I was like it’s definitely him, him and Jaime are so cute 😭

And Alyssa got there and then Shashona and watching them when Clark/Dylan came on stage we love that. And then Jade and Traci and it was funny because I saw Traci and figured Joe must be there too but I truly did not recognise him at first because no offence to Joe I was like this is just a generic man 😂 But then it was funny because the other people on my table were like “wait was that Joe walker?” so I had to tell them it was while refraining from being like “you didn’t see his wife it’s her birthday today” lol

Okay and then in AJ’s preshow he does a whole thing of “does anyone have a favourite version of a christmas carol” and Alyssa yelling “this one” was very cute

So back to the audience thing Lauren looked EVEN MORE tiny like what the fuck it’s not okay. ALSO even though it’s physically impossible the height difference seemed worse last night

James had his light up glasses!! And truly christmas electricity is the most fun time ever. And Lo looks so damn happy when she’s dancing 😭

Then aside from the soft shit during priceless Joey walks past their friends’ table at one point so that interaction was cute and at curtain call Lauren leaned out to wave at them and that was VERY cute

Also Brian (H) was saying SOMETHING to Lo at curtain call and making her laugh I love all these friendships so much

And we all sang happy birthday to Nick and Traci and it was a beautiful mess lmao

And then going back into the lobby I was front of the line to be seated again (with Mattie who you may recognise from this blog lol) and then Clark walked out and I was like he just did the show he has to do another show I don’t want to bother him but then we made eye contact and he waved so I waved back and ahhhhhh

And the third show I was seated at the back but the house manager (I feel bad for not knowing her name she’s been so nice) but she’d seen me at all the shows lmao so she knew me and she literally came up to me and was like are you okay here or do you want to move to this slightly closer seat which was SO nice 😭 (although I did stay where I was because the seat was higher and more central so I figured the view would be better and actually it was the best seat I’ve had for appreciating the lighting which is PHENOMENAL thank you Sarah)

THE BRIAN AND LO HUG THE FUCKING SPIN AND SHE’S SO TINY I’M NEVER EVER EVER GETTING OVER IT it was already too cute in the other shows and made me tear up but after that I was GONE god SIBLINGS and I hope they do it again but it WILL kill me seeing it even closer

But also she really has got the voice of a fucking angel it gets better every damn time I hear it

And the priceless high note godd that keeps getting better too and the stage is HERS and it really seems like she KNOWS she’s owning it and I’m so proud of her and the CHEERS ugh it’s everything

Oh but James and Dylan came back as far as where I was during that song and there was a gap for them to walk through but Dylan like fully walked into my legs lmao and I felt bad but I was like there is a table behind me I physically have no more room to get out of your way I’m so sorry 😂

When Dylan and Joey hugged at the end of the show Dylan held Joey’s head that got me their friendship is so soft

And I think J&L got the loudest applause at curtain call this time which in my biased opinion is what they deserve. They were also talking to each other and idc what they were saying it was cute

Okay I told you this in your DMs but I saw this ask and I laughed and said out loud “oh my god I hate you” 😭 Because how do I pick 5 things I like about THEM? There are so many things and I feel like I’ll sound superficial or not do them justice at all, but for you my darling bubba? I shall do my best 💖😘

And I’m gonna do it under the cut bc it’s become a damn essay

Note: I’m now realizing you meant separately but I did them together because they just go together in everything in my mind 😂

1. Their kindness. To everyone, but fans in particular. It’s more obvious with Seb because he’s always interacted a little more, but godd does that man make me want to weep with how he treats everyone around him? He’s the most precious baby. And with Chris, it’s just obvious from his whole vibe, the way he always talks people up, the way he just radiates love, the way he so clearly expresses how much it all means to him. They’re so open minded and they rarely seem judgmental and I love them for that. 🥰🥰🥰

2. Their commitment & dedication & love for/ to their craft. Some actors do it for the money, for the fame, for idk what. But with both of them you just KNOW they do it because they love movies, they love the craft, they freaking CARE about their characters and put in the effort to translate what’s on the page to screen with so much emotion and dedication. It’s made my heart burst to hear them talk about this all too many times. 💛😭

3. Their passion & love - for a lot of things. Obviously they have space in common. I love love love that about them, the fact that they can become so incredibly dorky and excited talking about it, that they clearly invest time into learning about it more and more, and that they share those things with us. And for Chris, also playing piano or tap dancing or his interest in politics or his love for dogs. Whenever he talks about something (or someone - Dodger) he loves, this man just lights up and and it makes me feel so freaking warm and happy and I’m so happy that he, even if he’s such a private person, still shares those loves & interests with us so freely. And with Sebastian, it’s books & quotes and photography and his love for New York and the love he shows his friends. He’s honestly amazing and so passionate about so many things it makes me all soft and makes me sob. 💛💛💛

4. Their dorky nature. They have no problem being a little silly, act like little kids, do something a little stupid or make fun of themselves. They don’t take themselves too seriously (and they’re so freaking modest), but I love to see Seb do his ridiculous little dances or hear Chris rant about his favorite Disney movies or just see the dumb expressions they pull or listen to the stupid jokes they make bc they’ve not progressed beyond the age of 12 (in Chris’s words), and I love that so damn much.

5. Well I tried to not be superficial but I cannot possibly ignore the fact that they are not just beautiful on the inside, but freaking GORGEOUS on the outside too. I’d say I don’t know where to start, but it’s all in the eyes really 😭😭 I LOVE both Chris’s eyes and Seb’s eyes. So bright and so pretty and I just want to drown in them and I very often do. And I cry about them a lot because it’s just too freaking much for one person to deal with. And then then just, Sebastian’s freaking jawline and that cute little chin and his lanky but strong body and those handsss. And Chris’s arms and that ridiculous chest and that tiny little waist and those handsss. And the HAIR!! We’ve been living in fluffy hair heaven and I don’t ever want it to end. Yeah fuck they’re way to fucking gorgeous and I kinda hate them. 😤😤

6. Okay you said 5 but I cannot, I repeat, CAN NOT possibly leave out their laughs. Their LAUGHS give me so much freaking joy??? I can hear their laughs looking at a photo, and they’re both so freaking infectious, but smiles on these two faces are also so so incredibly beautiful? The eye crinkles & the nose scrunch Seb tends to do, god I’m weak for it. And Chris’s full belly laugh with the boob grab is just the best freaking thing in the world and I want to just see and hear it in person just one time so I can collapse and die happy. 🥺🥺💖💖

Okay I feel like I’ve left so many things out. Like their sheer talent. But I could write ESSAYS on the things I love about them, and I’m so disappointed with myself that I probably left out lots of things I really freaking love about them. Because I love them so much I don’t even know how to deal with it any more, and I think those thoughts are just crowding my brain so much I can’t eloquently express the best things about these boys, but believe me, there are so many things I know I want to add to this like right after I’ve posted this. But thank you for this impossible ask you lovely unhinged madwomen, my sweetest bubba, I love you a whole lot Oula 💕💖💖
