//I wish I was good enough to feel confident doing that, but I’m not. :( Some reading material/listening material though (be warned the latter makes some very dark jokes, mostly out of an intent to mock the serial killers themselves): Mindhunter (the book), Last Podcast On The Left, and pretty much any crime show that has an FBI profiler. 

Serial killing at least falls under a few specific types though, and has some red flags: 

-A lot of serial killers showed the same traits in their childhood: torturing animals, traumatic brain injuries, arson, compulsive lying, and bedwetting late into adolescence. Most of them had abusive families or a history of being bullied as well. (This isn’t necessarily true with school shooters, however. For example, pretty much everything the media says about the columbine shooters is kinda sorta absolute horseshit. I REALLY recommend Last Podcast On the Left’s episodes on Columbine. They’re a real eye-opener). 

-The key part of killing is essentially a need for control with many serial killers. They need to feel in charge, better than others, powerful, etc, and often justify this urge with some sort of unusual moral code. (Ie. “I’ll help hookers get off the street but if they want drugs I’ll kill them because I want control  they don’t want to change their wicked, wicked ways.”) For others, it’s a case of sexual release. They can’t get it unless they’re doing something atrocious. They have serious sexual paraphilia issues. Some are motivated by some sort of religious compulsion. God says they have to kill, so they do, because *insert whatever reason here*. More often though, it boils down to a need for control, a need for a ritual, and a need for the catharsis of a kill, whether that be sexual or emotional. Many do the things they do to overcome a childhood trauma of some sort (in particular, men who were forced into crossdressing as a child tend to violently act out towards women because they’re angry that their parents were erasing their identity). I think the only real exception to this I can think of is Kuklinski? But he’s not so much a serial killer as a hired killer who got way too creative and had some serious issues at home. He was also aware of the fact that he was sociopathic and would try to watch snuff and the like to try to NOT be a sociopath. That kind of self-awareness isn’t common in serial killers. Many exhibit narcissistic traits to their personality and thus externalize all of their problems.

^All of the above is why my post-game Akechi got off with probation. That, and Sae is a good defense attorney. Plus Japanese criminal justice has the serious problem of being confession based so if you just... don’t admit to your more serious crimes they’re SOL.

WHAT EXPECTATIONS DO YOU HOLD TOWARDS YOUR PLOTTING PARTNER:  i guess just be able to put up with my rambling and stopping and starting, a lot of characterisation choices i do go through various stages and its pretty messy so when i communicate that with others it usually ends up equally messy. just be patient with me please.

WHEN YOU NOTICE THE PLOTTING IS RATHER ONE-SIDED, WHAT DO YOU DO?:  i don’t mind! sometimes ppl have more ideas that they want to share first and i’m always super happy to listen to those ideas !! sometimes its nice to have someone with a clear guide or structure and be able to work around that rather than trying to fumble through a plot together.

HOW DO YOU USUALLY PLOT WITH OTHERS, DO YOU GIVE INPUT OR LEAVE MOST WORK TOWARDS YOUR PARTNER?:  i try to map out some basic info abt their characters that i otherwise don’t know from their bio or verses and try to pick out points of confrontation or similarities to expand on with giselle that can be used as points for like a starter to happen. its either that or sometimes i have really stupid ideas i just toss out there like ‘LMAO THEYRE BREAKING SHIT AT DISNEYLAND’ and go buck wild from there if the other person is down. i also always try to warn people or get a gauge for what subjects to avoid and steer clear of considering that giselle is a bit of a Freak(tm) and will say and do bad things.

WHEN A PARTNER DROPS THE THREAD, DO YOU WISH TO KNOW?:   YES / NO / DEPENDS. - And why?: if there’s something giselle did or said that upset you, i would love to know not to repeat it again (since i do still feel pretty new to the rp game, theres still plenty of time for me to make stupid mistakes). if its just a general lack of interest or uncertainty of where the plot should go, then you dont have to tell me i wont take it personally i promise !

WISHLIST, BE IT PLOTS OR SCENARIOS:  OH SO MANY! ive managed to fulfil a lot of my wishlist threads with like, giselle talking to characters she’s already zombified and i love all that angst but i want to do more stupid shit. i want to make it my personal goal to bully every quincy man and woman on sight. although a REAL dream would be if i got to write a thread zombifying a character who managed to escape giselle’s clutches. and more fighting! i want to get better at describing action and fights and i love to write giselle getting beat up and beating people up! more more more!! 

THEMES I WON’T EVER RP / EXPLORE:   hohoho theres a LOT... uh r*pe/dubcon threads for one, even if yeah i know writing it doesnt condone it, it makes me intensely uncomfortable to put my muse in that scenario, i feel like i have an obligation to like, protect her from that shit you know? racism is one i don’t want to transgress, even though i’m a poc, its not really cathartic or groundbreaking to write abt racism in threads its just... really fucking upsetting. also i know the quincy’s have this very close parallel to the whole n*zi imagery and ideology thing going on and i am not about to start even daring to thread that into my writing or bring those allusions and references of real life tragedies into giselle’s threads. i’ve already talked at length abt exploring giselles trans identity in rp and why im not comfortable doing so, so.... yeah! all those i guess.

WHAT TYPE OF STARTERS DO YOU PREFER / DISLIKE, CAN’T WORK WITH?: i like starters where giselle can just immediately get right into being a piece of shit. mise en scene and all that! cut out the build up and just get to the intense horror !! i don’t like starters where its not immediately clear where the characters are standing and what they’re doing and what’s happening around them. those really disorientate me and leave me kinda floundering because i always need some allusion or mention of a setting to ground giselle in a time and place other wise i cant tell what her response should be

Amount of sleep: i try to get 8 hours every night but that doesn’t always happen. sometimes i don’t so well, and sometimes i have the morning available so when i wake up and my lethargy kicks in like i only slept 4 hours... i go back to bed and sleep up to 12 hours which im trying not to do anymore. im missing out on life.

Lucky number: another thing i don’t really believe in but as far as my fav number i always liked 5 for some reason.

One last 3 am Ramble before I go to bed because it is something that’s been on my mind all week: S H I P P I N G.

If you asked me, “Spade, what do you ship for Clint?” I would perhaps assume that you are asking who I think pairs up well with Clint romantically based on the fact that this is the $1,000,000 question on everybody’s mind in the RP world.

If I were to answer, romantically speaking, I would say, “Chemistry.” Perhaps you’d be reluctant to follow up, “But Spade, you Clintasha shipping trash, we’ve seen all the reblogs!!” Alright you got me there, but let me reiterate: I ship chemistry. This brings me to a very valuable point regarding my Hawkeye that I will hope dispel some assumptions you may or may not have about him. I have been roleplaying Clint Barton for what is coming up to be six years now. My interpretation on Tumblr is actually the second iteration of Clint I have written, and it all began with the intent that I would refuse to pair him up with any other muse. Period. And this is where ‘chemistry’ comes in. I started to roleplay with a very strong writer, with brilliant ideas, and with the same energy that just clicked with mine. Our muses had: Chemistry. By coincidence it was a Natasha ( @kxtiik ) With whom I’ve grown my stories with for 4 years! “Soooo, Spade, are you an exclusive ship with that Nat then?” My response is, no. I am not. But I want to take this moment to explain why:. I refuse to limit the possibility for stories by making myself exclusive, however this is not to say I am not VERY VERY VERY PICKY. When it comes to Clint I am very protective and particular. I look for profound writing with my partners, and I’ve rarely found that, let alone found any sort of romantic correlation between Clint and another muse. Clint simply has never shown interest in anyone else, however I personally am a multishipper, but I will always listen to my muse first and foremost. For starters just to establish a baseline, I consider Clint to be heterosexual. He is very attracted to women, but he’s never been much of a flirt which is where my Hawkeye skews away from the comics. Again, I want to reiterate that I will not dismiss the possibility of him falling in love again, but...it’s been 4 years of writing that he’s never looked at anyone else, so you know...it may take a while. Every ship would of course exist in it’s own separate universe. “Ok but is it just Clintasha, what are you saying?” Not necessarily. I adore Clint and Bobbi in the comics, and in fact have incorporated pieces of that storyline into my mainverse such as the fact that Clint was divorced when he met his mainverse Nat. I wouldn’t mind the idea of Clint with a very thoughtfully written and powerful OC. Heck, I wouldn’t even dismiss the idea of other Marvel characters I haven’t even considered if the writing was very strong and there was a strong chemistry, but again it ALL comes down to chemistry. I suppose the start of these thoughts derives from being badgered for so long about who I ship with who on this blog as well as others. Honest to God’s truth I don’t care who Clint is sleeping with as long as he is in love with them, the chemistry is there and we as Muns click. My goal as a roleplayer is to explore the human condition. I want to explore friendships, mentorships, commraderie, all the elements that make complex characters. Give me an in depth experience about why people do, or say certain things. Give me unrequited love, give me platonic love, give me all the layers. This blog isn’t exclusive, but this isn’t a dating blog either. Let’s write stories we can both laugh about and learn from. With that I will force myself to bow out of this 3am ramble as I do have work in a few. Another RP Questions For The Mun (always accepting) 

Here it is on another post because I am extra and ramble far too much. So here’s an essay on what all the URLs for my sideblogs (and for this blog!) mean, for anybody who was curious:

the-unofficial-force - So this is going to take some explaining... Basically, all of the muses here (my OCs, anyways) are/were from a fanfic universe/series I was planning on writing back in like 2011-2012 when I was in middle school (I might still do this if people want me to and if I ever have time, but, this is fine for now. Also good gravy I just realized how long I’ve been in BBC Sherlock hell... I’m old...). The original idea was that all of the muses here know each other, are friends with each other, and sometimes get involved in their parents’ business in between dealing with their own lives and stuff. Because I wanted to justify this by hearkening back to the original books, I called these doofs “The Baker Street Irregulars”. Therefore, when it came time to pick a URL, I figured the quote where Holmes first coins the term, “it is the unofficial force... the Baker Street Irregulars”  would be a good pick.

The rest are under the cut because this got so long and you probably only wanted this URL... I am so, so sorry.

elijahseditorials - Eli’s a writer and his blog is from his perspective/a good deal more personal than some of the others because of how emotional he is. Editorials, of course, are personal thoughts on the world and the people around the writer. Hence, the blog is kind of like Elijah’s editorials. (I had a hard time with this one, so it’s not the best of reasons!)

the-domin-ator - Dom’s a funny guy but kind of innocent (despite being a little shit) and loves puns, and he’s also a rock star/musician type. When I first started out/in the fanfic verse I mentioned above, I set his age as a young teenager with somewhat misplaced/odd rock ‘n’ roll sensibilities, so, I figured he’d try to make up a really, really stupid badass stage name for himself and use it totally unironically, hence “The Dominator”.

singingsoftlytothedawn - Will’s an actor and really into musical theatre, and I felt like “Corner of the Sky” from Pippin (which is also one of his nicknames) fit him and his attitude rather nicely. The specific lyric is, “So don’t ask where I’m going/Just listen when I’m gone/And far away you’ll hear me singing/Softly to the dawn”.

stvitusdancer - Okay, so the St. Vitus’ Dance was what a lot of people called this outbreak of dancing mania/dancing plague throughout the 14th, 15th, 16th, and 17th centuries (I’m a huge medieval and history buff, so...) where people literally danced until they died. St. Vitus is the patron saint of dancers and entertainers, but there’s this huge macabre history surrounding him because of that. Penny loves any and all things morbid and dark (eventually becoming a detective like her uncle Sherlock), but remains completely well-adjusted, pleasant, and happy. She’s also a ballerina and loves to dance, so I figured St. Vitus would fit a dancer who loved dark and creepy stuff.

theotherdilestrade - This one is pretty self-explanatory. Isabel, like her dad, goes into police work at New Scotland Yard and becomes a DI. So I figure there would be a lot of confusion between having two DIs with the same name, and Isabel would have to clarify who she is and how she’s not her father (if somebody expected to have her father consult on their case but got her instead, for example). The scenario I was imagining specifically was Isa and Greg eating lunch together or something and someone calling for DI Lestrade, and both of them turning around, Greg making motions to get up, and whoever called them would have to say, “no, not you, the other DI Lestrade”. Also the URL can sort of be read as Isabel trying to step out from her dad’s shadow while still being really close to him and honoring the work he does.

neverchangeanddontyoueverstop - So Sarah is still woefully underdeveloped and I need to fix that at some point, so I had no idea what to do with her URL. Thankfully, Fleetwood Mac’s song “Sara” has the line, “Sara/You’re the poet in my heart/Never change/And don’t you ever stop” which captures her attitude fairly well (she’s an optimist and has a very plucky outlook on life) so I just used that.

quis--custodiet and forged--in--fire - Ah yes, the cryptids of my blog. Sean and Daisy are a pair of siblings who may get scrapped at this point (but I love them so much...) but are important to everybody else here as they’re part of the fanfic verse I’ve been talking about. Quis custodiet is Latin for “who guards”, and it’s a take off on the phrase, Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?, or, literally translated, “Who will guard the guards themselves?”. I feel like that’s sort of a summation of Sean’s role in the team, as he’s often times the voice of reason and is very protective of all his friends. Daisy loves to do really cool metallurgy stuff (welding, soldering, smeltering, mechanics probably too, all that jazz), and really comes into her own by finding it/something she’s good at (it’s a big character moment for her), so, she was literally forged in fire.

rose--of-the--world - My unannounced, unofficially official Rosie Watson blog! This is just a translation of one of the meanings of “Rosamund”.

lets-investigate - So this is theoretically the home for my Holmes and Watson muses, but, I’m not on here as much as I ought to be. I probably should have made this its own main blog but I got lazy... this whole account is probably going to be going through some overhauling soon (nothing bad though!). “The Other Side of Life” by The Moody Blues always has given me really strong Sherlock Holmes vibes. Like, all of it, but specifically the lines, “The atmosphere on the streets tonight/Is the driving beat of the world/The word down here on the streets tonight/Is the truest music you’ve heard” but I couldn’t think of a good URL from that because all of it is so good. So, instead, I picked the chorus to pluck a URL from: “Baby, baby, baby, let’s investigate/The other side of life tonight/The lovers and the fighters and the risks they take/Are on the other side of life tonight”.

holmesthemeddler - This comes from one of my favorite exchanges in the ACD books, from The Speckled Band, when Roylott is trying to intimidate Holmes and Holmes just gleefully takes the (in my opinion) really silly insults: “I know you, you scoundrel! I have heard of you before. You are Holmes the meddler!... Holmes the busybody!... Holmes the Scotland Yard Jack-in-office!” Also, he does meddle, a lot, and I think it’s a pretty good descriptor of his character.

goodoldwatson - Also from the ACD books, this is from His Last Bow: “Good old Watson! You are the one fixed point in a changing age. There's an east wind coming all the same, such a wind as never blew on England yet. It will be cold and bitter, Watson, and a good many of us may wither before its blast. But it's God's own wind none the less, and a cleaner, better, stronger land will lie in the sunshine when the storm has cleared.” I also thought it complimented “holmesthemeddler” nicely!

What inspired you to take on your current muse (that you are posting this on): Honestly, i love developing characters with little canon information and it bothered me how many assumed sugimura was probably a cheating pervert with no personality beyond being an abusive dick. I thought to myself, what if I fill in the lack of canon info with something absolutely unexpected but entirely plausible so he seems to make more sense in peoples eyes and more human. I love the humanity of characters that shows that even the worst are not always so evil sitting in their evil lair cackling and plotting to do some evil. like can you imagine, sugi sitting around punching a punching bag with harus face on it or something?

What are your favourite aspects of your current muse: I like to rp characters with very intense personalities. Either super passionate, super cold, or super vain like sugimura. Sugimura is very much a spoiled rat bag of a man who thinks hes above everything and is sort of a stereotype for the type of character he is. you know, the asshole richboy kind. He reminds me of some other ppl ive roleplayed cough natha.n prescot.t in a few ways.

What’s your biggest inspiration when it comes to writing: I need to make him seem less like a cardboard cut out evil man and more like a person with thoughts, moments of goodness, hobbies and other really human things since hes assumed to be.. u know, cardboard cut out satan.

Favourite types of threads: i cant say a particular fav but mostly one where a lot of deep conversation goes on. lots of talk on feeling or opinions. or just actions that express ideas via actions like one example being that one thread i had where sugimuras all “hey yeah okumura can I ask a question who the FUCK do you think youre talking to in that tone?? uhhhhh know ur place????” 

Biggest struggle in regards to your current muse: I always fear im going to say something about sugimura that will make it seem like im saying “Its ok he did all these bad things because this happened to him” when really im more thinking “My fucking god what the fuck sugimura you cant do these shitty things just because this happened to you.” as of recent on this blog its been me being reluctant to talk about my ideas about his father and family life because the ideas involve a lot of abuse related things that if i word them wrong could be taken as “Oh he had this happen so now its a reason to forgive and forget what he did.” Which i think, if someone sees it fit to create a scenario for his forgiveness i wont say im not going to be pleased, its fun to see how things like that play out but its not like im like “He did a bad bc his dads a monster plz forgive him.”

@sorrowssinger I have no idea how long ago I followed you but it feels like forever because your blog has that quiet constant presence like idk a monument or something. You want to go and visit just to appreciate the view. I really like your writing (your icons are so cute??) and sometimes I look at your blog just to read your headcanons because they’re really interesting. Can’t remember if we’ve written a thing or not but I want to buT TAKE YOUR TIME AND FEEL BETTER FIRST you can burn yourself out doing anything, even a favorite hobby, too constantly and it’s 1000% okay to take breaks and year long hiatuses to sort out your headspace or even drop muses/threads entirely and move on. People will love your new muses like they were drawn to your first ones and it will be okay.

@lacriimas first of all nIENNA BLOG *clings to tightly* I’m not just following you for what muse you write, though I am excited that there’s an active Valie in our midst. <.<  Heard you’ve been kinda insecure with your writing lately and friend I’m here to tell you, as the student that blew through all the english credits in under two years and then took extra writing classes for shits’n’giggles,  I don’t think you have much to worry about?? Like if you seriously wanted to go through and nitpick everything yeah sure there are a few words you could have done better here and there but you know what? The same is true for my blog. And all the other blogs. It’s the nature of words, and their authors, to fluctuate and change. The rules are wobbly at best and even people we think of as literary masters have bad days where everything seems shitty. Doesn’t mean they suck.

This is gonna get long here but bear with me I promise it’s worth your time (and frankly applies to everyone who feels bad about their writing). When you write as frequently as roleplayers tend to do, you write so much more than you think. Seriously if you had a word count on your blog even if you’ve gone on hiatus frequently you’d still have more than enough to fill an entire book’s worth of pages. And all that practice adds up. We forget sometimes that as our muses and headcanons expand and grow that we as writers are also growing. We really do! And do you know where the change usually shows up first?

Your eyes.

You may look at your writing now and cringe and go oh god it sucks I’m a horrible writer and then reread some old threads and thing, oh gOD i made the same mistakes back then too. This.... isn’t actually because you suck. It’s not! It’s really not. You were perfectly fine with writing those old threads at the time of their creation because that’s where your skill level was, and people loved it even if you think it’s bad now! It’s still good. Your writing didn’t change, your eyes just got better at distinguishing which word patterns sound better.

I’ve been through this more times than I can count, with writing, with art... you name it. It really does get better, and it really does mean you’re improving, not getting worse. It’s a great time to experiment or even take a break. I promise your followers and rp partners will love you just the same. 

Okay that was a lengthy tangent but I meant to mention I like how you format your replies too it’s nice and readable and it makes my inner graphic designer Very Happy.

Anyway i love you all you deserve nice things. *flings glitter*
