Kenzie's hand was wrapped tight in y/n's, pulling her toward yet another fairground ride, y/n chuckling at the excited footballer who was already paying for the two of them.

"In ya go ladies." The man nodded, letting the two girls climb into the Ferris wheel seat and pushing the bar down to keep them safe. The wheel moved slowly and Kenzie grinned.

"What's got you so excited?" y/n asked her girlfriend who happily wrapped an arm around her so they could cuddle together.

"On a night like this? The view is gonna be beautiful!" Kenzie explains.

"I can think of a prettier view." y/n replies cheekily, pressing a kiss to the reddening cheek of Kenzie.

"You're such a sappy bitch." Kenzie giggled, and y/n huffed pushing her lightly as they moved again, slowly toward the top.

"I try and be all romantic and what do I get?" y/n huffs and Kenzie laughs again.

"Okay, okay I'm sorry! I love you cheesy pick up lines, promise!" Kenzie hums and y/n chuckles again wrapping an arm around Kenzie's shoulders as they move once more, nearly at the top.

"I'm glad you dragged me here Kenz." y/n hums after a moment of silence.

"Really?" Kenzie asks, eyes bright with happiness after remembering her pleading to her girlfriend to come with her.

"Yes, really." y/n promises and Kenzie leans up to peck her girlfriend's lips in thanks just as they move closer to the top. "Wow." y/n gasps the view of Glasgow around her beautiful.

"Yeah." Kenzie sighs, joining y/n in her shock and awe of the beauty around them.

As y/n looked out in wonder, Kenzie couldn't help but take a picture, the innocence in her stance and the view around worth the dry look she was sent by her girlfriend.

After Kenzie taking a few more photos the two seemed to finally be at the top, looking out at the world below, they smiled in wonder and their fingers linked as they took each other's hands.

Looking up at the stars, y/n sighed softly enjoying the comfortable silence which had been casted over her and her girlfriend as they watched.

"I think I'm in love with you." Kenzie whispered quietly, their seat moving away from the top spot and back toward the ground.

"What?" y/n asks, turning to her girlfriend with wide eyes. y/n had been in love with Kenzie pretty much the second they took the step to be girlfriends, but she had never said so.

Kenzie had asked to take it slow, to take tentative steps into their relationship so y/n didn't want to scare her. But she knew she'd been in love with Kenzie the day the girl said yes to being her girlfriend.

"I know I'm in love with you." Kenzie repeated.

y/n looked down as they moved once more, Kenzie looking out at the scenery around as if frightened that if she looked up at y/n she would freak out and take all she had said back.

"I know I love you too Kenz." y/n promises her, pressing a kiss to the crown of her head.

"Really?" Kenzie asks, looking up with wide shocked eyes as they moved back toward the ground.

"Yeah, I've known since the cricket game." y/n says with a soft smile and Kenzie huffs and hits y/n.

"Why didn't you say?" She whines, y/n chuckling and kissing her cheek as she climbs from the seat and holds her hand out to Kenzie, the girl taking it as they thank the worker and walk away.

"I didn't want you to feel pressured, I wanted you to want to say it." y/n explains, she was maybe a little more clued up about relationships, this still being Kenzie's first true one.

"I was so worried about it." Kenzie whines y/n laughing as she looks at a shooting stall.

"Come on grump." y/n chuckles, dragging Kenzie with her to the stall and paying for three goes.

"What are you..." Kenzie begins before watching in shock as her girlfriend shoots three perfect pellets.

"Jesus!" The stall owner chuckles as y/n puts down the rifle, chuckling at him as he hands her the small teddy bear.

"Thank you." y/n smiles, taking Kenzie's hand and pulling her to a side bench, sitting her down and handing her the bear.

Kenzie had a tendency to over-think things, and while y/n found it endearing, she knew how dangerous it was, Kenzie would go quieter, her voice meeker.

"Hey, look at me superstar. Don't let that brain run off without me, yeah?" y/n asks Kenzie who gulps and nods. "I knew if I said it, you would have spiralled and thought you had to say it back." y/n says to her.

Kenzie grips the teddy, looking down at the fluffy brown bear with a soft smile, she runs her hand over one of the circular ears, before pulling the bear close to her chest and hugging it.

"I wanted you to say it when you were sure, and I would have happily have waited another eight months for you to say it." y/n promised.

Kenzie's eyes blinked away tears which were misting her vision as y/n sat next to her. Kenzie pushed up and pressed their lips tightly together, pouring her thanks into the kiss.

y/n's hand slid up to cup Kenzie's cheek, rubbing her thumb across the soft pink skin which was there, wiping away a stray tear which Kenzie let roll down her face.

They pulled away slightly breathless and lips stinging from the force of Kenzie pushing her lips so tightly to y/n's. y/n smiled softly, pressing a light kiss to Kenzie's head.

"I love you." Kenzie says, pushing her head into y/n's shoulder. "I love you so much." she repeats and y/n smiles into Kenzie's hair.

"I love you too Kenz. So much." She adds and Kenzie smiles into y/n's shoulder. "Back to mine?" y/n asks as she stands up, holding her hand out to Kenzie.

"Yeah, back home." Kenzie nods, a smile growing on y/n's face at the referral to her flat as home, but she doesn't mention it, just holds her girlfriend's hand a little tighter as they walk away from the noisy ground behind them.

Rather than let fans down, Move added a third day, which again ended up selling out. “I remember being on a night plane from Miami, while Matt Vines was flying in from Dallas, and we were both using the aircraft wi-fi to negotiate via text for that third show. It was an interesting way to confirm putting the third date on sale, just three days before the actual show!”

He adds, “We’re taking a big bet on this tour when it comes to the number of cities and the capacities of the venues, but we’re hoping for the best, and we’ve gone out strong. We feel that the artist is in a good moment and that the latest album has just created more interest, so we’re looking forward to when he arrives in May.”

Further north, Ocesa will promote three dates in Mexico, including a stadium show at the F1 circuit, Autódromo Hermanos, Rodríguez, deepening Tomlinson’s footprint in that crucial North American market.

Meanwhile, in Tomlinson’s homeland, Jack Dowling at SJM is promoting seven UK dates in November at arenas in Sheffield, Manchester, Glasgow, Brighton, Cardiff, London, and Birmingham, which will round out the European leg of the tour.

“SJM has done every show Louis has been involved with, including all the One Direction arena and stadium shows” notes Dowling, adding that on the first tour, the London show was originally penciled in as a Roundhouse, then two Roundhouse shows, before finally being upgraded to Wembley Arena.

“This time, The O2 arena show in London will be sold out, while all the others have passed the expectations of where we wanted to be on this tour. In fact, when the UK dates were announced, it ranked as the fourth most engaged tour on social media in SJM’s history – his fans are just nuts.”

But Dowling also reports that the fanbase for Tomlinson is expanding. “The demographics are pulling not just from pop, but also from indie rock now.”

Dowling adds, “Louis really looks after his fans. On the last tour, they did a deal with Greggs to give free food to the people waiting in line, as some of them camped out for days in advance.”

Out of My System

Ensuring his fans are looked after properly is the number one priority in Tomlinson’s live career.

Noting that Tomlinson’s audience comprises mainly young women and girls, Rowland reveals that, at the artist’s insistence, a safety team has been added to the tour to ensure everyone that attends his shows is looked after. “They manage all the safety within the shows for the fans,” she explains. “They came in for the Wembley show last year and have been with us ever since - they’ve been beneficial to the running of the tour.

“When he played in South America, some of his fans were camping outside for a month. So we have a responsibility to look after them. Coming to a show should be a safe place, it’s where they find joy, and we have a responsibility to protect that.”

Manager Vines comments, “One issue that we came up against almost all last year was crushing and fans passing out. We adopted a system where we could communicate with fans, who could hold up a mobile phone with a flashing red-and-white sign if they were in trouble but then we’d see them all popping up.

“I don’t know whether some of that was a hangover of the pandemic where fans just weren’t used to being in venues. But we experienced a number of situations where hydration and temperatures in venues became an issue. I know Billie Eilish went through similar issues.”

With Tomlinson determined to meet a duty of care toward his fans, Vines says that the team now sends a “considerable advance package” to promoters ahead of their tour dates. “Our safety team goes into venues in the morning, and basically ensures that a number of different things are in place – making sure that water is given to the fans, where the water comes from, and at what points in the show it happens.”

And on the crushing phenomena, he reports, “We’ve worked out how many fans it’s safe to have without a secondary barrier. So we instruct promoters to have certain barriers in place to relieve the pressure and avoid crushing.”

He adds, “I get detailed incident reports after each show, which lets myself and my management team know exactly what happened, and so far on this tour, we haven’t had any issues with crushing or hydration, which is fantastic.”

Production manager Craig Sherwood is impressed by the way the tour has pivoted to protect the ‘Louies.’ “The welfare officers are vital for the young girls were aged from, I guess, 14 upwards. They can get dehydrated and malnourished pretty quickly if they are camping out for days, so it’s important that we look out for their well-being,” says Sherwood.

Citing the extremes that the Louies will put themselves through in an effort to secure themselves prime positions at the front of the stage, Sherwood recalls, “The first show on our US tour was in February, and it was freezing, but we found out that girls had been camping out on the pavement for five days. It’s crazy, as we know these young girls are coming from all over the world to see Louis.”

However, Tomlinson’s connection with those fans is evident in the level of merchandise sales at each show. “It’s a huge part of our business, says Vines. “In America, we averaged about $36 a head, and it’s not much shy of that in Europe – we set a few national records in terms of spend per head. But we spend a lot of time on merch plans, and we do venue-specific drops and give it a lot of care and attention, as it’s a really important element of Louis’ business.”

Ibrox and Celtic Park, both large stadiums both host Champions League/ Europa League every season. Both clubs have training facilities within 15 miles of either stadiums 30/45 minute bus journey.

Plenty of Hotels within Glasgow city centre or in the greater Glasgow area

Hampden obviously used for both men's and women's national teams has training facilities less than 5 minutes away (lesser hampden) owned by queen's park is used by the men's national team for training or Oriam sports centre on the outskirts of Edinburgh is used by the women's national team for training 45 mins/1hr bus journey from Hampden

The facilities and hospitality are all their if the teams would prefer to stay in and around Glasgow or Edinburgh so I don't understand why the Scottish FA/ Uefa give us these events over smaller venues

ugh, i'm getting even more annoyed about the stadium situation and how it's not getting better.

i'm planning on going to lisbon 2025 and at least we are cracking 50K there, but to downgrade to less than 30K in 2026?!

who knows someone in the scottish FA to make a pitch??

alright this is going to be long im sorry but get me started on woso and i just blabber. uhh most of my sources cited but this is mostly me going back thru texts from during the world cup and grabbing facts/pictures from then so a few of these claims are a little

BUT i promise i didnt make this up LOL i was Deep in google for the entirety of the world cup so i Know i got my info from somewhere

everything else under the cut bc this got SO long im actually so sorry

there's three primary people involved here:

katie mccabe: left back (but honestly left everything wonder woman). captains the irish national team. plays for WSL's arsenal, has been since 2015 (minus a lil bit loaned to glasgow in 2017). those are the two important facts here really but the below is ~flavor~.

she's 28 and 5'5 and she's a DREAM. scored an olimpico at the world cup (FIRST IN WOMENS WORLD CUP HISTORY!!!!) (THATS WHERE YOU SCORE A GOAL DIRECTLY FROM A CORNER. FIRST ONE SINCE THE 60S IN A WORLD CUP IN GENERAL!! LITERALLY INSANITY!!!)

also for context this world cup was ireland's wnt's first ever major tournament appearance. she's the first ever irish goal-scorer (of men and women!). she's amazing. here's her for arsenal:

ruesha littlejohn: striker/midfielder. scottish-irish, but represents ireland at the senior level. 33 years old. has played for a lot of teams club-wise. currently plays for london city lionesses, a second tier team, but that wasnt announced til after the world cup. her most recent wsl team was aston villa (but i mean it, she's played like everywhere lol). 5'6 if you're curious.

here's her in ireland's kit:

caitlin foord: forward! plays for australia internationally, and arsenal (so teammates with katie. this is important.) she's played for arsenal since 2020! used to play for the thorns in the nwsl once upon a time. 5'7, if, again, you're curious. she used to date a swiss footballer (lia walti, who's played for arsenal since 2018) but they broke up like six months before the world cup. walti unfollows the australian team on instragram right after they post a video of foord, it's all very dramatic (THEYRE STILL TEAMMATES AT ARSENAL THIS WHOLE TIME BTW). arsenal man, always at the scene of the crime.

ok so now you've met our main players!!

world cup happened this past summer (2023), btw. to give you an idea of timing.

katie mccabe and ruesha littlejohn dated for 6-7 years (some articles say 6, some say 7). they came out in june 2019 and said they'd been dating for three years already. their breakup was confirmed right before the world cup (like THE SAME WEEK??), in an article where mccabe was like "yeah, ruesha, my partner at the time..." very casual.

and then. in JUNE. (world cup starts july 20th!!)

foord and mccabe go to ibiza w an ex-arsenal player (jordan nobbs). who (in june 2023, not anymore) played at aston villa with. you guessed it. littlejohn. so yeah your ex gf goes on a trip to ibiza w a new girl and your current teammate, you might be a lil pissed off. maybe.

the sun's (i know, BOOOO but this made me laugh so hard) caption on a pic from the trip had me cackling:

(the title of the article was "inside the glam lifestyle of pals caitlin foord and katie mccabe after ireland’s star’s ex snubs world cup handshake." borderline galpals commentary like have writers there never heard of regular synonyms for friends?? there was also a line that just screamed please don't sue us: "However, The Sun does not suggest the Aussie forward had anything to do with McCabe and Littlejohn's break-up.")

so now we've got two exes on the irish national team going into their first world cup appearance, the captain of the swiss national team and an australian player having broken up like six months ago, and much more, but that isn't directly related to This Specifically.

while you, anon, presumably know how the world cup works, ill give a mini explainer for anyone lost: there's the group stage, where the teams get divided into groups (in this case, of four), and your team plays every other team in the group. you get three points for winning a game, one for a draw, and none for a loss. those points add up and top two teams move on. and then you go into the knockout stage, where you have to win to advance, and if you keep winning you make it to the final yay!!

but for this we only care about the group stage. and more specifically, about group B.

group B is made up of nigeria, canada, australia, and (drumroll please) ireland!!! it is the stuff reality tv shows WISH they could make happen.

ireland and australia play. it is (almost*) the very first game of the tournament (but it's still on july 20th). it is at 5am my time. you would not believe the timezone fuckery i went through that month.

(*ok new zealand played norway starting a bit earlier on the same day but that's not as dramatic sounding)

and you know how they shake hands with the other team before a game? yeah well here's littlejohn apparently refusing to shake foord's hand:

and i already shared this on @powerful-owl's post BUT. here's mccabe's little sister, supporting mccabe. please note the date (july 20th) and the comment from foord (from after the game, im like 99.99% sure) asking if she wants her jersey now. me personally if i just beat my totally platonic friend/teammate on the world's stage i wouldnt be pulling up in their sister's comments asking if she wants a jersey now (also implication of the word now as in previously discussed, etc etc. this was the thing that pushed me over the edge into insanity at like 9am after no sleep)

i admittedly have not kept up to date on anything that's gone down since the world cup so it's entirely possible more has happened! in fact i would say that it is downright likely lol. i love soccer lesbians n the insane charts necessary to keep track of their relationships <3

Happy Birthday Scottish actress Blythe Duff, born 25th November 1962 in East Kilbride.

Her love of acting started with youth theatre. On leaving Hunter High School she joined The Company, a youth opportunities theatre company, based at the Glasgow Arts Centre in Washington Street and spent her summers with the Scottish Youth Theatre. She entered the profession in 1983 with her first job at the Young Playwrights Festival, I’m sure she would have known my old school friend, who won The Young Scottish Playwright of the year award back then, may he rest in peace.

Blythe worked in theatre for seven years, appearing with Scottish Opera in Street Scene as Shirley Kaplan in 1989, and at the Coliseum Theatre in London with the English National Opera. She also performed on the soundtrack album which was released on Decca Records in 1989. She was working for Scottish Opera when she landed the role of Jackie Reid in the sixth series of Taggart in 1990. Her first appearance was a community police officer in the second episode of the sixth series, “Death Comes Softly”, on 3rd December 1990, in which she is credited as playing WPC Reid. In the third episode, which first aired on 31st December 1990, she was credited as playing Jackie Reid and her character was seconded to CID as DC Reid. By series eight in 1993 her character was promoted to Detective Sergeant. She became the longest-serving member of the Taggart cast after James Macpherson left the show in 2002. The last Taggart was shown in 2011, seeing Jackie Reid finally reach Detective Inspector.

Apart from Taggart, and a couple of short films Blythe has only really appeared as herself, voice overs and quiz shows etc as well as crime shows and documentaries. She has however performed on stage regularly and was a double winner, in 2013 and 2014, of the Critics Award for Theatre in Scotland, for her role as Fay Black in Iron, Rona Munro’s psychological drama set within a women’s prison.

Duff is married to former police officer Tom Forrest and became stepmother to his two daughters Sarah and Katie. She was made a patron of Scottish Youth Theatre in the year 2000. Blythe was Chieftain of Bute Highland Games in 2009 and Chieftain of the Cowal Games in 2011.

She was given an Honorary Doctorate in June 2011 from Glasgow Caledonian University for her outstanding contribution to the performing arts.

In 2020 Duff and singer Cameron Barnes teamed up to re-imagine the classic Christmas song Fairytale of New York to raise funds for freelance creatives and their families.

In the past month Blythe has bee touring some Scottish theatres in James IV: Queen of the Fight, by the acclaimed playwright Rona Munro.

Last year Blythe said about growing up in Calderwood, East Kilbride, surrounded by references to Shakespeare due to the new town’s habit of clustering local street names around a certain theme. “The streets all had brilliant names” she says. “You live next to Edmond Kean and Hamlet and MacBeth, all these theatre references on street signs. I wonder whether or not that was soaking into my subconscious from an early age. I only thought about that when I was older but I like the idea.”

On acting Blythe said

'I'll never retire but don't tell my husband that'

In September Blythe returned to the No Mean City streets in a new music video based on the role which made her a household name for 21 years. Described as ‘an homage to Taggart, and a love letter to Glasgow’, the film echoes the opening credits and gritty underworld scenes of the long-running cop show which made her a household name longside Mark McManus, Colin McCredie and Alex Norton until its demise in 2011.

It sees the actor crouched over a dead body behind police lines in a back alley, surrounded by rubberneckers and the dead boy’s devastated mother.

Have a wee look and listen to the video, Blythe has a fine voice and it is a powerful emotional video.

in this article for gq, staff writer tomas lennox interviews his twin sister sofia lennox, former midfielder for bayern münchen and now afc richmond's new women's team.

"this is probably the most comfortable either of us have ever been for an interview," sofia laughs as she sits down across from me on her orange couch. sofia lennox was born on december 21st, 1996. coincidentally, that was seventeen minutes after i was.

we were born in norway and lived there until we moved to scotland at 14. we both played sports, but sofia was the one who was good at it. obviously, she was the one who went on to play professionally while i only write about it.

when i ask her why she still plays after all this time, sofia tells me like i should already know "i still love the game. i love the level of competition and i love my teammates." sofia has always strived to play stronger and play better. she even switched positions from defense to midfield her first year at bayern.

sofia tells me she didn't always intend to go pro, she just wanted to keep playing. she could have played in uni, i point out. she tells me that was never her plan. "by the time it was time for me to think about going to uni i was already playing at pre-professional level. i just don't think uni would have been in the cards for me. i don't even know what i would have studied." her interests were never in school, she explains. she wasn't drawn to writing "like you were" and she didn't see herself as good at maths or science. "if i hadn't gotten to play for glasgow city i likely would have gone back to norway or tried to work at a charity shop somewhere. i've always loved vintage fashion."

i compliment her outfit of choice. today she's wearing an orange floral print dress and brown boots. my sister knows what look she's going for, and it's admirable. she's dressed this way for a long time. i don't even remember how long it's been. so i ask, "why'd you start dressing vintage?" i know from the look in her eye, she's about to start a tangent. "i love how people like sharon tate and jane birkin dressed back then. oh, and twiggy! i've lived in areas with such good vintage shops, and vintage inspired shops. charity shops and i are best friends." the only truly modern clothing she claims to own are her "training clothes and her favorite pair of jeans." sofia makes sure to emphasize that she has loved fashions of the past, for a long time, but is so glad for the progress we've made. she knows not buying mass produced clothing is a privilege. "i see a lot of people on social media making videos of buying fast fashion that they wear once and throw out. i don't want to be that person or promote the idea that that is sustainable. if you've got to buy fast fashion because it's all you can afford, you're not the problem. the problem is those who can afford to pay for sustainably produced clothing buying cheaply made clothing and throwing it out and the companies who profit from churning out trends." i know i'm making a face because she tells me immediately, "you can put all that in." sofia's not interested in making her opinions more palatable for brands. speaking of more palatable to brands, a quick glance over at her new pr agent tells us to turn the conversation back to sport.

she's just moved to richmond to play for afc richmond's newly founded women's team. i couldn't be prouder of her. "it's incredibly exciting. i'm so grateful to have been brought on board to play for richmond. i've got to thank ms. welton and keeley jones for thinking of me and allowing me to be apart of this team." sofia gestures for keeley jones, the pr consultant who suggested her for the team, to come over to the couch. she gives keeley a hug and thanks her personally. UCI World Championships — August 6 to 13; 2023.

The UCI World Road Race Championships move to early-August this year, which makes the Tour de France an even more important event as it’s the best place for riders to hone their form. And the events couldn’t be taking place in a more stunning location: Glasgow, Scotland. Raced by national teams and run entirely without race radios, these are always some of the most intriguing and intense races of the season.

The hilly city circuit should favor the riders we’re used to seeing at the front of the World Championship road races: the Dutch (led by van Vleuten, the defending champion) and the Italians on the women’s side (both teams are too deep to single-out any one rider), and puncheurs like Evenepoel (the defending champion) and France’s Julian Alaphilippe (winner in 2020 and 2021) on the men’s. Each winner will spend the rest of the season and the first half of the next in the rainbow jersey awarded to the winner of each discipline.

On 26th November 1917 Elsie Inglis, the Scottish nursing pioneer and suffragette, died.

Elsie Maud Inglis was an innovative Scottish doctor, suffragist, and founder of the Scottish Women’s Hospitals.

Inglis studied medicine at the (then) revolutionary Edinburgh School of Medicine for Women, after three years going on to study under Sir William McEwen at the University of Glasgow, where her interest in surgery began.

After she qualified as a doctor in 1892, Inglis was appointed to a post at what would later become the the Elizabeth Garrett Anderson Hospital for Women in London, but which at the time was just an ordinary general hospital. Unhappy with the conditions, and in particular about the standards of care for female patients, Elsie decided that the way forward was to have hospitals run by women.

In 1894 she returned to Edinburgh where she established a medical practice with a fellow female physician. In 1904 she set up a small maternity hospital for Edinburgh’s poor in the city’s High Street, staffed entirely by women. This later became the Elsie Maude Inglis Memorial Hospital.

Inglis had for some time been a member of the National Union of Women’s Suffrage Societies, and in 1906 she launched the Scottish Women’s Suffragette Federation.

In 1914, Elsie offered to help but the Army did not permit women doctors so she set up a medical unit in France instead. Elsie sent 14 teams of women volunteers to give medical help on the battlefields.

In 1915 Elsie went to Serbia, where Serbs were fighting Germans and Austrians. She faced many hardships, dangerous battles, freezing weather and being arrested as a spy. From Serbia, Elsie went to Russia to work as a war doctor.

Elsie will always be remembered in her home town of Edinburgh, I wonder how many of us have a connection to the Elsie Inglis Maternity Hospital, in Edinburgh.

Her poor health meant she was forced to return to Britain, but she died of cancer on 26th November 1917 a day after her ship arrived in Newcastle Upon Tyne. Her body was taken home to Edinburgh, where she lay in state in state at St Giles Cathedral, an unprecedented honour for a woman back then, it showed the high regard the people of Edinburgh held her in.

Elsie is buried in the city’s Dean Cemetery, as seen in pic two, pic three is Elsie Inglis Memorial in north aisle of St Giles Cathedral Edinburgh.

UK — Airdrie, Scotland. A 50-year-old mother-of-two has been charged with a hate crime after an extremist transgender advocate reported her to police for retweeting a photograph of a green, white and violet women’s suffrage ribbon. Police Scotland confirmed that Marion Millar, an accountant, business owner and gender-critical feminist campaigner, was arrested. Ms Millar, who has since been released on bail, is accused of posting six tweets in 2019 that run afoul of the Communications Act 2003.

The women’s suffrage ribbon, which was tied to a chain-link fence in front of a tree outside the Glasgow studio where a BBC soap opera is shot, appears to be a central focus of the police investigation.

Women seeking suffrage in the UK used green, white and violet to stand for “Give Women the Vote,” and to represent royalty, freedom, purity and hope.

The complaint is rumored to have been filed by David Paisley, an aged 42, heavily muscled, tattooed actor who stars as Rory Murdoch on the Glasgow soap River City. There is no official confirmation that Mr Paisley filed the complaint. The complainant purportedly told police that the bow of ribbons shared by Ms Millar represented a hangman’s noose, putting the complainant in fear of his life as a transgender advocate who is also a gay man. The C-list entertainer tweeted that he has fled his home and is in hiding. He claimed that police have “put my home on rapid response,” and that he is in contact with a local victims and psychological support team.

Last year, Mr Paisley, a high-profile trans advocate, insisted that men who obtain a Gender Recognition Certificate (GRC) have the right to perform medical examinations on female rape victims who request a female forensic team, because GRC holders have “change[d] their legal sex so it aligns with their gender.” Ms Millar may be sentenced to up to six months in prison if convicted on the hate crime charges.

To honor Ms Millar, artist Birdy Rose illustrated a graphic of a woman shouting defiantly while holding up green, white and purple women’s suffrage ribbons to the sky. The words “Woman: Adult Human Female” are written on the ribbons, and a banner with the words “Women Won’t Wheesht” graces the bottom of the illustration.

Transgender-identifying extremist Joss Prior posted an altered version of the artist’s illustration, in which the fist holding up the ribbon has been modified to an outstretched hand, making it appear that the woman is doing a Nazi salute. “They’re not even subtle about the Nazi symbolism any more [sic],” Mr Prior wrote in the tweet accompanying the altered illustration.

The artist said she is “absolutely fuming” about the altered graphic.

Mr Prior had posted a YouTube video in February titled, “Trans woman in womens [sic] spaces.” The video shows the transgender advocate dancing in a women’s restroom to mock women’s concerns about sharing sex-specific facilities with male individuals: “I was waiting for the toilet and had a dance to show the nefarious interests trans women have for using the womens [sic] toilets,” the video description reads. After her arrest, Ms Millar briefly locked down her Twitter account, a measure she said was to stave off continued abuse. She has since made the account publicly visible again. Following complaints from transgender activists, a GoFundMe campaign created to raise funding to cover Ms Millar’s legal expenses was shut down and all donations refunded to Ms Millar’s supporters. The campaign had raised £14k in 3 hours.

Ms Millar later began accepting donations through Paypal, but the account was locked for suspicious activity, presumably because the account was mass-reported.

& Co, a criminal defense law firm, will organize a crowdfunding for Ms Millar’s legal expenses “in coming weeks,” she announced in a tweet yesterday. “The past few weeks have been a nightmare for Marion and her family and it seems there is no end in sight,” a For Women Scotland spokeswoman said. “Sadly, in Scotland, it seems both free speech and women’s rights are under attack.”

On Thursday, Ms Millar was subjected to a two-hour interview with law enforcement at a Coatbridge police station. Her supporters held placards and wore shirts with the slogan, “Women won’t wheesht” (‘wheesht’ is Scottish venacular meaning ‘shut up’, ‘be quiet’ or ‘hush’), and tied violet, green and white ribbons to nearby posts. Some wore fake mustaches. Many are showing support of Ms Millar on social media under the hashtag #WomenWontWheesht, and using an image of women’s suffrage ribbons for an avatar or primary profile picture. Ms Millar is expected to appear at Glasgow sheriff court next month.

She is not the first person in the UK to face legal prosecution for displaying defiance to gender identity ideology on social media. Katie Scottow of Hertfordshire, England was convicted of the offense of Persistently Making Use Of A Public Communications Network To Cause Annoyance, Inconvenience, And Anxiety following 2018 tweets in which she used male pronouns to refer to transgender-identifying advocate Stephanie Hayden, and called the advocate a “pig in a wig.” Ms Scottow was fined £1,000 and handed a two-year conditional discharge. She successfully appealed the conviction in December.

The “dude” who wants to let males examine rape victims is offended by a ribbon. Something that if a woman (who hasn’t been trying to escape being a woman) did she would be called a Karen.

I hope the second dude peaks a lot of Scottish women.

Women’s Champions League last eight team guides – No 5: Glasgow City | Football

Overview

Glasgow City have been Scotland’s dominant force for over a decade having now won 13 consecutive league titles. However, their hegemony will be challenged with Rangers and Celtic pouring more resources into their women’s teams – both clubs decided to go fully professional this year. Glasgow City have lost their left-back Nicola Docherty with midfielder Sam Kerr (not that one!) and forward Kirsty Howat set to join Rangers in 2021.

Glasgow City have produced stellar talent such as Arsenal’s Lisa Evans, Chelsea’s Erin Cuthbert and the Manchester United striker Jane Ross. They will be enormous underdogs in Spain and limiting Wolfsburg to a narrow victory in the quarter-final would be a fine effort. Glasgow are the only part-time team left in the competition.

Their task is made more difficult by the fact that the Scottish Premier League runs from February until November, meaning the it was only one game old when the league was stopped because of the coronavirus pandemic. Glasgow are able to cover costs of participation in Spain only thanks to a private donation from local philanthropist James Anderson.

Glasgow City usually play a 4-3-3 formation with Hayley Lauder as an inverted wide forward from the right and Howat from the left either side of Republic of Ireland international Clare Shine. They have plenty of experience in 39-year old defender Leanne Ross and 33-year old midfielder Leanne Crichton in the spine of the team.

Which players have the club signed this summer and can use from the quarter-finals?

Glasgow have added US-born striker Krystyna Freda on loan from the Cypriot champions Apollon to bolster their team in Spain – Freda has scored an eye-watering 245 goals in three seasons in Cyprus. With Docherty departed, they have enlisted 30-year old American full-back Zaneta Wyne, who spent a season with Sunderland in the WSL, from Norwegian side Klepp IL. However, their most notable capture has been South African captain and defender Janine van Wyk from Fortuna Hjørring.

Head coach

Scott Booth is best remembered for his seven years as a striker at Aberdeen before a two-year stint at Borussia Dortmund – he was a member of Scotland’s Euro 96 and 1998 World Cup squads. Booth began his coaching career with Scotland’s under-15 and under-16 teams before spending a year as manager of Stenhousemuir from 2014-15. He joined Glasgow City in the summer of 2015. The emergence of Celtic and Rangers as professional clubs will provide his first stern managerial test domestically.

Star player

Ross, who turned 39 in July, is the only member of the Glasgow City squad to have played in each of their 13 consecutive title-winning seasons. With 133 caps for Scotland, Ross has a wealth of experience and has played in just about every outfield position, scoring over 250 goals for her club in the process – despite rarely playing as a striker. She often plays at centre-half nowadays and her delivery from dead balls is consistently excellent.

Goalkeeper Lee Alexander endured one of the most heartbreaking moments of last summer’s World Cup when she saved a stoppage-time penalty against Argentina in the group stages to preserve a 3-2 lead for Scotland. The save would have guaranteed Scotland’s progression into the knockout rounds; however, a retake was ordered by VAR due to a harsh interpretation of the encroachment rule. Argentina scored and Scotland went out.

Which player could surprise everyone in Spain?

With 170 caps for South Africa, 33-year old Van Wyk is not an unknown quantity, but this will be her Champions League debut having spent the majority of her career in her native South Africa. Holding together a defence under attack from Pernille Harder and co will be one of the toughest challenges of her career.

What is the realistic aim for Glasgow City in the WCL?

They stand very little chance of progressing past the quarter-final, with only the size of the defeat against Wolfsburg in question. Privately, Glasgow would probably consider limiting the Germans to a two-goal margin of victory an achievement.

European pedigree

This is Glasgow City’s second quarter-final appearance, their best ever performance in the competition. In 2015, they were beaten 7-0 on aggregate by Paris Saint-Germain.

In the end they go for the smallest possible ceremony, just a little affair in Bristol’s city hall. Dea chooses a dress by touch, picking one in satin that swirls around her legs and makes her feel like Titania amongst the forest tangles. By smell she chooses lavender, of course, and weaves a stem into the braid in her hair, along with a few sprigs of baby’s breath because she’s heard they’re traditional, and a few larger chicory blossoms because Gwyn always said they remind him of her.

Gwyn himself wears charcoal grey and a bolo tie with a cold metal clasp, on which there’s the raised design of a wolf, and Dea had delighted in feeling out the point of its little snout. Looks like Mojo, she’d said, and Mojo had woofed his agreement. It had been her father’s, of course, since he’d had his western phase as a young man and Gwyn couldn’t be convinced into wearing a real tie come hell or high water, (though if you asked Dea, she’d say he was really only griping for show, and truly wanted nothing other than to wear the thing, with it being so special to Ursus.)

Of course she wears Gwyn’s mother’s bracelet, her something borrowed for years now, and elects Josiana her maid of honour, because as soon as Dea had mentioned wedding bells around her she’d essentially claimed the position for herself. And that’s alright - Dea’s world is little and once they’d got over their initial jealousy about each other, the two young women found they got along much better than anyone expected them to, what with their similar passions for Gothic romance and tragic theatre. Jojo had thrown herself into dress shopping and hairstyle choices and creating invitations for all of the three extra guests in attendance, and when Dea had found herself teary eyed on the morning of the event, Josiana had been the one to wipe away her tears and hug her tightly before they got into their dresses.

She meets Gwyn now at the altar, Mojo having led her up the aisle, and Gwyn reaches for her hands and holds them tight as Angelica, in the role of officiant, speaks. Together, they say all the necessary responses, and giggle like the schoolchildren they’d been when they first met once they hear the words I now pronounce you married. They kiss and Gwyn has been unmasked from the start, it’s only their dearest friends around anyway, (and everyone in attendance will say afterwards that in the springtime light pouring through the windows, you could hardly see his scars for his smile and the overjoyed tears in his eyes.)

Dea can feel those scars crinkle under her fingers as she holds his face in her hands, her mouth moving against his for a sweet, chaste moment before they pull away, and then they’re husband and wife. And someone snaps a photo and everyone cheers, and suddenly she and Gwyn are the sweet bubble-gum centre in a group-hug lollipop, with Osric’s good arm flung around Gwyn’s neck, and Ursus’s hands on Dea’s shoulders, and David and Jojo squeezing them around the outside, Angelica dragged somewhere into there too.

Together they emerge into the sunlight, and the perfume of roses hits Dea’s nose as tossed petals fly in her face and settle on her hair and shoulders. She holds on tight to Gwyn’s arm and presses her forehead into his shoulder and breathes deeply, deeply.

When they all get back to the house, (with a few white streamers pinned to the walls and a few vases of fragrant flowers on the sturdier surfaces,) Ursus gives a speech, a toast. He takes them all back to the day a scruffy twelve-year-old Gwyn had rescued a tiny eleven-year-old Dea and how, with some coaxing, he’d stuck around afterwards – and just how glad Ursus is that he did so. And they all drink, and the dining room table’s been turned into a buffet of home-made delicacies - pierogi and a huge pot of bigos from Angelica, she’d gotten the recipes during her studies in Poland, a selection of misshapen sandwiches because that was the best David and Osric could manage on a team effort and their combined culinary knowledge (which was negligible). There’s a cheeseboard Ursus put together based on a cookbook from 1978, and a cake Josiana commissioned from the best baker in the city - a three tier sponge with sweet buttercream and delicate sugar flowers. An hour later Osric climbs into the sofa with his shoes on and he’d be reprimanded on any other day, but today he gets away with it and gets to give a somewhat tipsy toast of his own, Gwyn, Dea, congratulations! Best ceremony I’ve ever been to, I think, bar that time I stumbled in on a biker wedding in Glasgow – yours a much classier affair I have to say, hey, good on ye!

You’ll be next! someone shouts up at him. Osric sticks out his tongue and gives a drunken chortle, stumbling down from the sofa before flinging his good arm lazily around David’s shoulders, spilling his champagne flute in the process. Jojo fiddles with plugging her phone into the stereo speakers so that they can dance - it’s no expensive wedding reception but they clear a little space in the kitchen for a dance floor and pair up, first father-and-bride and then maid-of-honour-and-bride and then bride-and-tipsy-dundonian and bride-and-tipsy-dundonian’s-boyfriend ‘til finally Dea finds herself in Gwynplaine Trelaw’s unmistakable arms.

“Hello,” he says, bending close to her. “We’re married.”

“Yes,” she replies, giggling. “That we are.”

After so long being practically married, she has to say it doesn’t feel all that different, or at least not yet, but she’s happier than she can express that all their friends were there to witness it happen. And she’s very happy with her dress, the slippery-smooth feel of it just like magic.

“I'm…” Gwyn starts. “I’m really happy. I mean, I didn’t think I wouldn’t be, but now that we’re here…”

“You’re right,” Dea says. “It’s wonderful, isn’t it? Maybe we should get married every week, so we can always feel like this. We could go to Las Vegas.”

“Oh really,” Gwyn replies, wrapping his arms around her waist. “Or we could do a destination wedding and head somewhere tropical.”

“The Bermuda Triangle!” Dea says, thrilled. “And then we’ll honeymoon in Dracula’s castle.”

Suddenly, Gwyn’s lifting her in the air and laughing as he spins them, like he almost never does, like he doesn’t care at all, like everything’s wonderful. Because everything is! Everything’s wonderful, right now, and Dea shrieks with surprised laughter too, still giggling when he sets her safely back down.

“I love you,” Gwyn says, breathless, like he’s so happy he could sing. “I love you.”

“I love you,” says Dea, “I’m going to tell you every day, 'til you’re sick of it.”

“I couldn’t ever be!” Gwyn says, and he twirls her, and they dance. They dance, and their friends dance with them long into the night, and they hold each other tight until everyone else has gone home, and then they dance once more even after all the music has been switched off, when they’re just in their pajamas and the flowers that had been in Dea’s hair are now in the sink, and they hold each other tight until the morning.

There’s a ring on Dea’s finger, and a matching one on Gwyn’s. And Dea thinks, yes, they might just have to get married a few more times, because after all, she really likes her dress. It’d be a shame if she only got to wear it once.
