KENPACHIRO SATSUMA R.I.P.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I was extremely saddened to learn that suit actor Kenpachiro Satsuma passed away yesterday, December 16, from a bout of pneumonia.
Satsuma-san was apprentice and friend to original Godzilla suit actor Haruo Nakajima. Satsuma-san's first suit role was as the Smog Monster, Hedorah, battling his sensei as Godzilla, in Godzilla vs. Hedorah (1971).
Satsuma-san went on to play the space kaiju Gigan in the next two films in the series, Godzilla vs. Gigan (1972) and Godzilla vs. Megalon (1973).
Nakajima-san retired from the role of Godzilla in 1972. When the Godzilla series was revived in 1984 with The Return of Godzilla (aka Godzilla 1985) the role went to his former apprentice, Satsuma-san.
Satsuma-san played Godzilla throughout the entire Heisei series, ending with Godzilla vs. Destroyah (1995), when Toho retired the Big G a second time.
Satsuma-san brought an animalistic fierceness to Godzilla that made the king of the monsters truly terrifying and unpredictable. Gone was the super heroic, somewhat goofy Godzilla of the 1970s, and returned was the menace of the original Godzilla/Gojira (1954).
I had the honor to meet Satsuma-san, and other Toho luminaries, in 2015 during G-Tour 3. He was very polite, gracious and humble, with a mischievous twinkle in his eye. He was a delight to speak with, and I will always remember that visit as one of the highlights of the tour.

KENPACHIRO SATSUMA (born YASUAKI MAEDA 1947-Died December 16th 2023,at 76). Japanese actor and stuntman who portrayed Godzilla in the Heisei films, from 1984 to 1995. Born in Kagoshima Prefecture, Satsuma began his acting career in the 1960s with small roles in samurai films. In 1971 he was offered the role of the smog monster antagonist Hedorah in Godzilla vs. Hedorah, opposite Haruo Nakajima as Godzilla. He went on to play Gigan in two further Godzilla films. When Nakajima retired from the Godzilla role in 1972, substitutes were hired between 1973 and 1975 until Satsuma took over permanently in 1984. His portrayal took the character away from the humour of the character's portrayals over the past decades, returning to the more animalistic Godzilla persona of the original 1954 film.Kenpachiro Satsuma - Wikipedia

I have obtained more figures
Tumblr media Tumblr media
First up is the og Gigan from Godzilla vs Gigan(1972). Gigan is an alien cyborg capable of flight, and his buzz saw on his chest is very deadly. Gigan is also the first monster to actually make Godzilla bleed.
Anyway, here he is T-posing
Tumblr media
And here is his pose(or the closest to it) for his flight
Tumblr media Tumblr media
His sails/wings/fins(whichever one they are actually called) are movable to a small degree, as the two outer ones can be pulled out slightly to position them in that pose. However I have heard that they can be somewhat easily breakable, at least in terms of them falling off and it being hard to put it back on. I don't have much issue with it, especially since I tend to treat these guys very well and don't try to force the joints. But they are attached by only one little ball joint, which can be seen here.
Tumblr media
Overall I love this figure, and it is so well detailed. The buzz saw on his chest can move slightly as well, though mine is a bit stuck.
Next figure is from a game I'm not very familiar with, but I like the design of this creature.

This is Mizutsune from the Monster Hunter games, and I honestly love how pretty this guy is. I don't know much about this guy, but the design is very good. The only issue I have is that the back leg in the third photo falls off pretty easily, it seems the ball joint is loose. But otherwise nothing else is a problem. It also comes with a water breath attack thing and bubble bases.
Also the tail is pretty heavy compared to the rest of the body, so most poses that might be used would only tilt back, but I found a pose that allows the tail to be up in the air without it falling over. But otherwise it's best to have the tail touching the ground.
