“High German is just Yiddish with a Christian accent, Ludwig.”
one of these days, maybe, Roderich might learn how to flirt without being aggressively uncharismatic. but probably not because i honestly think he gets more joy out of deliberately making Ludwig uncomfortable
@eyk-hetaart‘s comic about dialects inspired me to finally finish an idea i’ve had floating in my mind for literally a year and a half (remember this? no you don’t. shut up). Yiddish (esp Western Yiddish, which geographically/historically speaking, would be Roderich’s Yiddish, though it was largely extinct even before the 20th century bc it was so close to German that it p much just got absorbed sklfdj) has a LOT of linguistic similarities to Viennese German. Austrian German, Bavarian, and Yiddish are older Germanic language groups which came before High German. (kind of like how Shakespeare’s English wouldn’t have sounded anything like modern standard British English).
Roderich is basically like “I outrank you.”
*shidduch = arranged marriage **please note that Ludwig is not uncomfortable for questionable reasons. i don’t do that shit so don’t come anywhere near me with it. Ludwig is uncomfortable because Roderich is being his usual unsettling self and invading personal space while being unsubtle about the merits of marriage YET AGAIN

Some people consider some of these ships to have familial bonds and that is okay. Any kind of ship hate/ship bashing in the tags or replies will have you blocked.

Currently, I am in GerAus hell, but this will change as I tend to shift a lot between pairings. But here we are:
Who tends to worry the most? They both do, but for different reasons. Roderich worries a lot more; somewhere in the back of his head, there is an eternal worry that he is just not enough. He is cynical enough not to voice it or show it, but it is there. Ludwig, on the other hand, worries about business things, the EU, wars, and international relations. He is a lot more involved in German politics than Roderich is in Austrian.
Who is the most physically affectionate? In public, they barely touch; if they do, Roderich initiates it. But it is very casual, with small touches. At home, Ludwig likes cuddling on the couch. They would put on Netflix, and 5 minutes later, Lutz would be asleep cuddling Rod. Austria would watch the movie to the end.
Do they go to sleep at the same time as each other? Not usually, Ludwig tries to get a decent amount of sleep, as this is apparently healthy, but paperwork prevents him from doing so.Roderich suffers from insomnia; he also likes composing in the night, so he would often come to bed to an already asleep Germany.
What do they do when the other is stressed? Roderich makes Ludwig tea and brings him a slice of homemade cake. This way, Germany takes a small break and can talk about anything and everything. Ludwig takes Roderich for walks. Austria always complains, but secretly he noticed that fresh air and sun are quite good for stress-related headaches, and walking is not that bad after all.
Who is the dramatic one? Despite popular belief that Austria is dramatic, none of them is. Roderich can play dramatic very well if the situation requires it.

Sabrina (A PruAus Fic-Idea)
Roderich Edelstein has spent his most of his young life polishing silver and pining for Ludwig—the second son of the wealthy Beilschmidt family his aunt is chef to. Handsome, cultured, and a gentleman in the making, he's everything golden that Roderich looks up to from his dull corner—and everything that is far out of reach for a member of the help. After all, Ludwig barely knows the kitchen exists, let alone that the bespectacled Edelstein exists within it.
(Those two bits of information unfortunately, are general knowledge to the wrong Beilschmidt brother: the crass, coarse, first-born Gilbert who makes it his life's ambition to not only harass the kitchen staff for nibbles at all hours, but to bother the errand-boy like the plague that he is.)
Regardless of these misfortunes, Roderich is determined to improve his lowly station in life. Making Ludwig a goal to attain (and Gilbert an obstacle to overcome), he eventually procures a scholarship to a prestigious conservatoire abroad. It takes four years, but Paris works its magic, polishing Roderich up just like the silver he used to shine. His return home finds him graceful, chic, and refined; ready to air his vast repertoire of music and sophistication to a certain member of the Beilschmidt household audience he so seeks to serenade.
...But there must be, however, a fault in Roderich's stars; born on an unlucky day perhaps, or simply the butt of a universal joke told without his approval: for when he once more fails to attract the oblivious, recently-engaged Ludwig, he finds that his charms have not been wasted—only that they have meandered rather off course. Because it's the older brother—arrogant, spoiled, playboy extraordinaire Gilbert—who has been left with stars in his eyes at the sight of Roderich: once ugly-duckling, now turned most ravishing swan.
So, for the first time in his life, Roderich finds himself smack-dab in the strange new territory that comes with being the object of desire, of being wanted—and it might be the coquettish nature of the game, or simply too much imported champagne—because young Mr. Edelstein has been left a little tipsy, a touch lightheaded; his uncertainty of this new situation making it rather hard to differentiate where his feelings for one brother end...and where, for the other, they begin.
...

I'm asking the owner of this blog, but... What do you feel about Rusame? Also, what all do you ship in total?
[[ i like rusame a lot! i joke around a lot on this blog that america is straight and i do ship him with a lot of women but rusame is definitely one of my top five hetalia ships. but i like it best when it’s toxic.
as for what else i ship, my top four are itapan, germano, fruk, and pruaus. i would die for these ships they can do no wrong in my eyes and i will insert them into every au. i DO have an agenda when it concerns these ships.
besides those i like and tolerate gerame, spamano, dennor (even though i dislike the nordics) lietpol, amechu, rochu, engchu, occasionally usuk, amebela, geraus, edelweiss, icesey, canukr, and some other pairings that are controversial so i’ll keep them to myself. ]]

so, ms. frukmerunning, what ships do you like? you know, besides the obvious ones
so I have a set of ships that I call the pentagon. it's 5 ships that I put into everything if I can help it.
itapan, germano, pruaus, rusame, and fruk
im pretty neutral on every other ship in existence but there are some others I like besides these.
engita, auseng, geraus, itachu, velvet pair, romechu, I like dennor in theory but overall I dont care for the nordics. icesey is good though. and then usuk and spamano are pretty cool. frain is also nice. GERMERICA. yes I forgot about that one. germerica is so good. im just typing out my thoughts at this point.
but yeah im neutral on most ships except for the ones I loathe with my entire being

It took them forever to understand they had romantic feelings for each other. Anschluss was painful. During the interwar period, Roderich tried to heal, somehow he didn't really pay attention to what was happening in Germany. Until it was too late. During his stay in Berlin, he barely talked to Ludwig or Gilbert. It was complicated because many of his people were supporting the regime. And those who didn't, well, we all know what happened to them. Anyway, after the war, Ludwig tried to apologize, but any meetings between him and Roderich were frowned upon by others. Soon after, he started building a united Europe, and Austria became neutral. In 1995, Austria finally became part of the EU and they started talking a lot Somehow, even with his rather messy working style, Roderich didn't iritate Ludwig. And Roderich slowly started to see Ludwig as a human, not some strange machine buried under all the paperwork.
The first kiss was awkward. It happened on a normal, boring summer day. After the meeting that was organized in Vienna, Austria and Germany were in Roderich's house, eating dinner and relaxing. Ludwig was washing dishes (no dirty dish is safe with Lutz around) when Roderich wanted to reach something from the shelf above the sink. He bumped into Germany, and they stood very, very close and kissed, gently, like trying to check if the other one was okay with that. To this day, neither of them knows who started the kiss. Maybe they both did it.
Roderich sometimes wonders if he is using Ludwig. He is very aware of how old he is, even for a personification. And Germany is young and has a savior complex; he wants to make sure everything is good and working. And Roderich is insecure; there are soo many things he does not like about himself. And he knows it is pure vanity. He is also very aware that he knows how to manipulate people; sometimes he does it even without thinking, and it scares him that he might hurt Lutz and not be good enough for him.
They both have nightmares. Also, both are aware of each other's night terrors. They just, out of respect, pretend they don't know. It is stupid, as both would talk if asked. Maybe not with detail, but they would. Roderich's biggest nightmare is rather surreal, full of shattered glass—lots and lots of it. It is Cristal night all over again, and somehow this particular nasty event scared Rod to tears. Germany wakes up in a cold sweat after a dream in which he marches in the snow. He is freezing, and he knows there is no escape, only terrible whiteness. It is the Eastern Front
