Not many would imagine Neuvillette would leave Palais Mermonia when the moon is high in the sky, but not because he was busy with work. Not many would know that he was neck deepin the novel that had laid hidden amongst the records on his shelves;

(he makes sure to finish his work first, he couldn't dare ignore his duties...)

Not many would imagine Neuvillette's approach to understanding human emotions would be noticed by Furina. Not many would know that she would get him to read certain novels, or watch specific plays at Opera Epiclese...

(and she found it rather frustrating— why doesn't he just go out and socialise?!)

Not many would imagine Neuvillette to actually enjoy cheesy romance novels, because he finds it to be, although exaggerated, honest expressions of love. Not many would know the slight upturn of his lips as he indulges in such novels;

(if Sedene says that Monsieur Neuvillette was in a particularly happy mood without reason, then and you can wager a good guess as to what the Iudex was up to...)

Not many would imagine Neuvillette would dislike stories or plays with sad endings, because his heart aches as he watches the story unfold in a tragic ending. Not many would know that although he says he dislikes them, Neuvillette understands that they are simply projections of reality;

not on all days can you enjoy sunshine, just as how not all days can be overcast...

Not many would imagine Neuvillette's hobby would be picked up by the Melusines and Sigewinnie. Not many would know that they try to keep an ear out for any talk about trending novels;

(and if the pile of books appearing on the Iudex's table was anything to go by, then you could guess the Melusines secretly gifting them to their beloved Iudex...)

Not many would imagine Neuvillette's new pastime would become known to the Traveller, Wriothesley, Clorinde and Navia. Not many would know that they accidentally forget books in his office...

Not many would imagine Neuvillette would find his books stored away in one of his drawers to be filled with paper bookmarks, each with unique colours and patterns. Not many would know that there are more origami found in the books than the number of documents on the Iudex's desk...

Melusine hands make it difficult to write, which is why they all use stickers to mark their items. Despite having human-like hands and fingers, Sigewinne is still very much a Melusine, and she participates in this culture. She puts stickers all over Wriothesley and his gauntlets because that is hers.

Wriothesley doesn't learn this until after he and Sigewinne are together, but he's doing the mental math and he's pretty sure she was stickering him even before they started dating. He tries to bring it up subtly, like oh, so I overheard- or someone mentioned to me the other day that- because. Surely there must be some other meaning behind the stickers, other than just declaring ownership of belongings. Surely that doesn't count for people? You wouldn't mark a person as your property. Right?

And Wriothesley has his back to Sigewinne as he says this. But he turns to face her, and she's smiling at him just as sweet as ever, but her eyes are just a little different, in a way that has nothing to do with appearance. Looking in them feels the same as the first time Wriothesley descended into the depths and then looked out at the bottom of the sea. All the breadth and oppressive weight of an entire ocean, and miles and miles of unfathomable dark and all the things that hide within it.

Sigewinne smiles and tells him no, he understood it correctly. The stickers are how they mark belongings. There is no other interpretation and no deeper meaning. Sigewinne has staked her claim. Wriothesley is hers.

so seeing Sigewinne constantly protrayed as Wrio/Neuvi's daughter is so funny to me because imo (and you don't have to agree with me!), i am like 99% sure that is a full grown woman.

evidence:

-yes child model but all melusines are like that

-referred to as miss (in a serious context), adult job

-melusines' full maturity seem to still be rather child-like compared to other species

-P&T referred to her as "older sister"-like

-i really don't think Wrio would trust someone with the mind of a child to have the responsibility of being the Fortress's head nurse

folks, that is not a ten year old. that is a nurse with a gun.

she's Wrio's younger sister who enjoys putting strange meat in people's food and playing (nonmalicious) mind games. Sigewinne is chaos with an innocent face and a kid-like style and i love that for her

I don't want to step on anyone's feet but I have to get it off my chest: the way so many people portray Sigewinne acting like a small child really bothers me.

Yes, mélusines are small and cute (and Sigewinne looks more like a tiny human than an actual mélusine which certainly doesn't help and I'm mad about that too), but they're all 500yo creatures.

Yes, many mélusines have been shown to be naive about the world and people, but 1) being naive doesn't mean they're babies, they're still adults, and 2) I don't think ALL of them necessarily remain naive, especially the ones that have come to live within the city. Sigewinne in particular has been shown to be more shrewd than she appears, and she herself stated that she likes to act innocent so people will underestimate her.

The father/daughter relationship that people imagine for Wriothesley and Sigewinne is adorable but it doesn't make sense. If anything Sigewinne should be the mother, she's so much older than him. And I much prefer to imagine that they have an actual adult to adult, complex relationship, there's so much interesting stuff to be done there, why is anyone going the boring route of "oh she's baby".

Now this is just my humble opinion of course, and if people prefer to do cute stuff, that's fine. Although the way people automatically put cute and small characters into the "small child" category kinda irks me, so, maybe check your biases there...? Idk i'm not your dad. I'm just saying.

Genshin French Fontaine Names Make No Sense

I've joined the hate train on French Fontaine names & have to rant for I'm writing 2 fics on Fontaine & hate that I constantly have to copy-paste the names as they are complex and long.

I pity the voice actors having to pronounce these names

What even is the origin or meaning? Are these even names? or the case they wanted fake french names to stand out?

On the Upside:

I like the steam punk aesthetic playstyle & swimming in Fontiane but it has some weird lore that I don't really like mostly as not sure where the origins are coming from or it's way too complex.

Also, my favorite regions lorewise & aesthetically have been Sumeru & Liyue

At least Sigewine derives from a snake women legend in German lore on the wiki but why snake woman?

Melusines when I looked up were some sea nymph , freshwater fairy, or mermaid half fish half human so I'm bummed we missed out on that

I'd like them to be more fairylike like and cute the wings on Sigewinnes back are cute.

Also, why is she so human and the rest not? I honestly don't want to think about that too much it freaks me out sometimes.
