The people who made the Geneva Conventions put up a UQuiz saying, “Have you broken the Geneva Conventions? Find out now!” And everyone who took the quiz got arrested.

do the geneva conventions apply to occupied Palestine? USA says nahhh
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
if these people were so convinced that hamas/palestinian resistance committed war crimes on oct 7th, they would be doing everything in their power to make sure those crimes are prosecuted under the geneva convention - however, by being ambiguous about whether they believe the conventions apply to occupied palestine, theyre basically giving israel the freedom to commit any degree of atrocities against humanity and get away with it. this is why israeli terrorists are arrogantly filming themselves committing war crimes, destroying buildings and aid, killing civilians holding up white flags - because they know that the USA is going to defend israel even if it means rejecting the geneva conventions

Hi mom I'm violating the geneva conventions since clearly they don't give a shit about IDF literally committing war crimes on a daily basis.

cw// violation of Geneva conventions in a videogame
I sure hope any large team fortress 2 blog never finds this post. I wanna share a strategy I've been using for years with 75% reliability.
For those who don't know, Team Fortress 2 is a team-based shooter with 9 different classes that each fulfill different roles. One of the classes is the spy who can disguise as an enemy team and backstab them in one hit.
But a spy can ALSO disguise as another class in YOUR team.
There is a common meme in the community called the Hoovy. Basically you play as the Heavy, a large guy with a minigun, and instead of killing anyone with it you just pull out your fists, crouch and be friendly. People usually won't kill you because friendlies are funny. You can stand the Hoovy's head and it's just generally hilarious.
So what I've been doing for the past few years is disguising as a heavy, pulling out my fists and pretending to be friendly. And when people come up to me to stand on my head I just backstab them. Sometimes I deliberately stay there and then wait for a high value target to sit on my head.
The drawback is that you can only do it once for every person that sees the murder and if the enemy team communicates you basically can't do it anymore at all.
But also you will make it so people never trust a friendly ever again, traumatising them for life.
I guess this is why the Geneva Conventions forbid soldiers from disguising as civilians ->_->

US trying to persuade Switzerland to waive Geneva Conventions for Israel in Gaza
U.S. diplomats are finalizing a diplomatic initiative to their Swiss counterparts that Washington hopes will scuttle plans for a meeting to discuss violations of the Geneva Conventions in the current war between Israel and Hamas, the Gaza-based militant group, according to State Department documents seen by HuffPost. The revelation comes as the U.S. is simultaneously slow-rolling the most high-profile international attempt to ease suffering in Gaza: a United Nations Security Council resolution that would drastically increase the flow of humanitarian aid into the besieged strip… Palestinian diplomats and a significant group of U.N. member states, including some European nations allied with the U.S., are preparing a call for Switzerland to launch such a conference focused on the fighting on Israel-Palestine that would cover Geneva Conventions violations by all parties, according to the State Department documents and a person familiar with the Palestinian effort.
Despite global public opinion abhorring Israel’s constant war crimes against Palestinian civilians in Gaza and the West Bank, the US is determined to keep Israel unaccountable for its actions.

Francesca Albanese: "The right of self defence can be invoked when a state is threatened by another state. Which is not the case here, Israel has no claim that it has been threatened by another state. It has been threatened, by an armed group, qualify it the way you want, but it is an armed group within occupied territory. And frankly, even saying "the war between Gaza and Israel" is wrong because Gaza is not a standalone entity, it's part of the occupied territory. But so in particular, Israel cannot claim the right of self defence against a threat that emanates from the territory it occupies, from a territory that is kept under belligerent occupation "

I don't know how we deal with the fact that a few members of UNRWA provided actual military assistance to Hamas on October 7, and were engaged in hostage-taking/holding activities. (A lot more were very much not-neutral in expressing excitement on October 7, but this is about the ones who actually participated.) Cutting off assistance to the entirety of UNRWA seems excessive. But.
"Officially sanctioned non-combatant aid organization committing military actions while maintaining status a protected non-combatant" is historically one of the worst of the war crimes. Allowing that to occur endangers everybody's medical aid.* The first Geneva Convents (1864) were only about aid to the wounded, providing for [wikipedia]:
the immunity from capture and destruction of all establishments for the treatment of wounded and sick soldiers,
the impartial reception and treatment of all combatants,
the protection of civilians providing aid to the wounded, and
the recognition of the Red Cross symbol as a means of identifying persons and equipment covered by the agreement.
I could maybe see something along the lines of "you have to do an investigation, one which is actually possible to pass, and put in place some new safeguards, and funding will be restored". And it looks like UNRWA seems to be investigating, and we probably should restore funding soon.
“The Israeli Authorities have provided UNRWA with information about the alleged involvement of several UNRWA employees in the horrific attacks on Israel on 7 October. “To protect the Agency’s ability to deliver humanitarian assistance, I have taken the decision to immediately terminate the contracts of these staff members and launch an investigation in order to establish the truth without delay.  Any UNRWA employee who was involved in acts of terror will be held accountable, including through criminal prosecution. “UNRWA reiterates its condemnation in the strongest possible terms of the abhorrent attacks of 7 October and calls for the immediate and unconditional release of all Israeli hostages and their safe return to their families. “These shocking allegations come as more than 2 million people in Gaza depend on lifesaving assistance that the Agency has been providing since the war began. Anyone who betrays the fundamental values of the United Nations also betrays those whom we serve in Gaza, across the region and elsewhere around the world”.
But this is one of those things that really can't go unanswered. And it sucks.

* Obama ordering military agents to disguise themselves as vaccine workers in Pakistan, while hunting al'Qaida, has now led to international vaccine workers being shot, and has seriously hurt the fight against polio in Pakistan and Afghanistan. While I generally like Obama, that action was a war crime and should have been dealt with as such.

Yeah, so…the United States, *Global Champion of the Rule of Law*, is trying to convince Switzerland not to convene a conference to discuss Israeli government atrocities, as defined by the Geneva Conventions, against Palestinians. And this is despite the fact that said conference would also consider any Palestinian violations as well.
In other words, those Geneva Conventions you’ve always heard about nations having to observe regarding legality of actions taken during times of war? Yeah, well, Biden’s trying to see if his rabid attack dog can be given a free pass on killing somewhere north of 20,000 men, women and children. He’s probably also trying to avoid the U.S.’s support of said rabid attack dog being examined in a multilateral forum.
I’d say “fuck that guy,” except Trump—or whichever other moral leper the GOP ends up running—would be even further up Israel’s ass.
