The snow had melted away in Forgotten Hollow due to an odd warm spell. James may or may not of had something to do with it, given the fact that he’s not a fan of snow. The weather was the furthest thing from his mind at the moment. His wife is missing.

Soon enough, he tracks her down in the town’s square using instinct on where she might be. He knows where she’s headed. He needs to stop her.

His first impulse upon seeing his wife’s lovely form is to yell at her. He has told her more than once not to leave The Straud Estate’s grounds.

“Typical female.” James mutters under his breath before approaching her. He doesn’t yell at her, he knows that will get him nowhere. “Dear one…”

“Oh…hello, James.” She greets, knowing she’s been caught. She doesn’t understand why it’s such a big deal for her to meet her sister. She keeps hearing the timing isn’t right. That there’s more going on than just her situation with her sister. She knows that he’s not telling her something.

“Look, I know you want to meet your sister. I can understand that.” James tells her and he’s actually not just saying the words. He does understand why she wants to meet her sister. To have connection to family. “The truth is.” He pauses for drama’s sake, because he knows what he’s about to say will hit his wife hard. “The Vatore’s still stay here. Well, Lilith does. Caleb visits often.”

If the female across from him was still capable of drawing breath, she would have ceased breathing for a few moments.

“YOU DIDN’T THINK TO TELL ME THIS BEFORE?!” She yells at her husband.

Somehow, James wasn’t expecting that reaction out of her. He’s speechless for a few seconds before finding his voice. “I was trying to protect you.”

His words are a lie.

“Whatever! I needed to know this! You know how much I loathe them! They act so high and mighty, I wish the world knew who they really are!” She rants and raves, starting to pace.

She ignores the concerned looks she and her spouse are getting from the humans in the nearby park. Asa and herself, even The Count, don’t sugar coat who they are. They don’t present themselves as wholesome and good. The Vatore’s are hypocrites in her book.

“I need to feed. I will be back at the grounds shortly.” She finally speaks. Thaddeus opens his mouth to argue but she gives him a look that he hasn’t seen in her eyes since she turned. He decides not to mess with her. He accomplished his goal – distraction.

The vampire stalks through the park, finding a visitor from Sulani to feast on. She doesn’t kill him.

Unbeknownst to her, the very sister she so desperately wants to contact is standing across the street from the park.

hey remember when you did an experiment on those gamer supplement things and noticed how great they were for ADHD well i was doing research on antihistamines (reading wikipedia because i was too lazy to look up proper articles) and the thing you said adhd brains were deficient in idr the word starts with an a, antihistamines kind of uh also inhibit because it's connected to allergy responses sooooo just thought you should know about that

Acetylcholine.

While OTC allergy meds (1st and 2nd generation H1 agonists) do impact acetylcholine function, the most common ones are also the ones that have the least impact.

Basically, these meds can clog up the little parts of your brain that use acetylcholine to communicate with each other, so even though acetylcholine levels remain high, the function is reduced because it's not going in the little door for it.

Zyrtec (cetrizine), which is my daytime antihistamine is very low impact in this regard. Most of the non-drowsy allergy medications (that aren't relying on caffeine) have comparatively little impact. It's why they don't make you drowsy.

Benadryl (diphenhydramine) is IIRC the lowest impact of the drwosy ones, and is also my night time antihistamine.

Additionally, all of them (even the rarer ones) are very temporary in impact, with acetylcholine function returning to normal quickly when not being taken.

TBH, I'm far more concerned about the impact on antihistamines on people with mild seizure disorders than ADHD, all things considered.

Though, I would guess that the disproportionate "hangovers" that some people with ADHD (my GF for example) get from benadryl is related to this, now that you mention it.

Now, can you tell me more about this connection with acetylcholine and allergic responses? Because that's not something I've seen any information about, and I would definitely like to know more.

ETA: @miseriathome adds:

Benadryl is a first generation antihistamine, ie a (weak) anticholinergic with CNS and PNS effects. Second and third generation antihistamines are the ones that are non-anticholinergics and also do not act on the CNS as much.

In the above post, I generally used "non-drowsy" to refer to 2+ generaiton, and "drowsy" to refer to 1st generation. It's a good enough rule of thumb for walking around the pharmacy aisle. It is not a good rule of thumb if you're an actual pharmacist or medical professional or otherwise trying to be diligent about central nervous function at a level beyond "grocery store shopping."

January 3 - Part 3

Caleb Vatore arrives in Forgotten Hollow around early evening. He opens the door of the family Mansion, letting himself inside. Instinct tells him that his sister is home, before he even has a chance to see her.

Nacho, Lilith’s new cat, is sitting on the couch when Caleb steps into the Living Room.

It has been a very long time since Lilith has had a pet, but she felt bad for the cat when she found him one rainy night, soaking wet in the town’s square. She picked the creature up, shielding it in her coat. He had started to purr, not caring that a vampire was holding him. Just that he had been shown kindness. His name however, was picked out by Jackson.

Caleb greets the cat, who stares him down like he’s a watchdog, before joining his sister at the chess table. Caleb briefly thinks the cat somehow knows that he’s upset Lilith. Vera has told him several times that some pets are very intune with their owners' emotions.

“I see Nacho is adjusting well.” Caleb starts with.

He feels he was a bit hard on Lilith at the new year’s eve party. He honestly just wants to protect her. She’s always been there for Caleb when she needs him. She’s sacrificed for him and he doesn’t think he’ll ever be able to repay her.

“He is.” Lilith confirms, moving a chess piece. The urge to talk about her cat is intense, but she keeps her mouth shut.

“I am deeply sorry, Lilith.” Caleb tells her sincerely. “I was not trying to upset you.”

Lilith stops playing her solo chess game and looks up at her brother for the first time since he entered the room. “You may not have meant to, but you did.”

Caleb nods, thinking. “Join me for a stroll?” He asks her, rising from his seat.

To his shock, Lilith agrees. They walk over to the town square.

“I do want you to find someone. I hope you know that. I have never wished for you to be alone.” Caleb tells her after they walk a few moments in silence.

“I know that, Caleb.” Lilith pauses. “The truth is, I was lonely. I was so used to having you around. We lived together for hundreds of years. Even when we traveled separately, we still came back to the same place in the end.”

Caleb nods his head. He should have realized that him getting married and moving away would be a adjustment for Lilith.

“I really do like Jackson. I want to keep him around to see where it goes. He asked me to turn him and I agreed.” Lilith explains to her brother.

“I do not want to see you get hurt.” Caleb expresses to his sister.

“I’m a big girl, I can handle it.” She assures him, touching his arm in a sisterly sign of affection.

“Since he asked you to, it was his choice at least.” Caleb comments. “Am I forgiven?”

Caleb has many issues with someone being turned against their will. Not only due to what happened to him but what he did to someone else. Liberty wasn’t the only person impacted by his vampire nature. Someday, he knows he has to tell Vera about Inna Cents.

Lilith smiles at rare smile at her brother, her fangs peeking through her lips. “Of course. Now, let’s complete this little stroll. It reminds me of our human years.”

December 25 - Part 2

Apollo, Naya and I finally got dressed. We also had to change AJ’s outfit since he decided to play in the upstairs toilet. He also got another bath. He’s starting to remind me of his Father.

You would think a little one would be like PRESENTS! Nope, he wanted to dance. He wanted to dance with me, I couldn’t say no.

Once everyone arrived, we ate. This one little girl seemed to be enamored with Caleb. It was pretty cute.

My husband is pretty awesome. He cooked and even cleaned up after everyone. Even if he did frown a bit when most of the guests showed up in swimwear. Hey, it’s Sulani. It’s gonna happen.

Most of us were happy with our gifts. Apollo thinks he always has to get me a gag gift. What am I going to do with a rubber chicken????

It was fun having Aubree and August fly in from Brindleton Bay to join us, along with a some of the locals. Including Ukupanipo, he seems to pop up at a lot of parties I’m at. If I was more full of myself, I might think he has a crush on me. I think he just enjoys parties.

Caleb grabbed me once all the guests got distracted by watching the little kids play with their new toys.

“Do you still wish to dance, my lady?” Caleb asked me in a whisper. I smirked, it was the same thing he had asked me at Apollo and Naya’s wedding before things got steamy between us for the first time.

“Yes.” I replied just as simply as I had back then.
