The vanilla is soft, gentle and not gourmand or overly sweet. It is supported by a citrus note and woody notes. This made my day🧡Thank you @everdandysilverfox ・・・ Thinking of my dear distant friend Maria McElroy as I walked darkening streets in cold evening air... my skin & coat alive with Geisha Marron the latest addition to her range of textured Japanese inspired perfumes that seem to revel in the nuances & challenges of raw materials, in this case a creamy umber-toned chestnut blossom woven intricately with a slightly tart muguet & a sunglasses bright triptych of mandarin, grapefruit & bergamot. The careful calibration of tension between the floral elements (inc a pale waxen magnolia) demonstrates Maria’s considerable skill in handling her loved & honed materials. I have Geisha Noire & Geisha Vanilla Hinoki, both of which I adore. Maria’s Aroma M perfumes love my skin & bring solace to my senses. She is also one of most stylish & generous of perfumed folk. What I love about Vanilla Hinoki, which comes from a New York-based line called Aroma M (in which every single scent is good — seriously, not a bad egg in the batch!) is that it gives you everything you love about candy (easy comfort, instant gratification) without the cloying stomachache that some vanilla perfumes can induce. Perfumer Maria McElroy found a charred, almost meaty vanilla available only in Morocco and then cut it with the Japanese wood hinoki, which to me always smells like the inside of a sauna right after someone pours a ladle of water over the rocks. It hits your nose as less of a bonbon and more of a barrel, maybe an oak one that some sweet liqueur was aged in years ago. It takes the idea of a silky gourmand and puts a few decades of life into it. It has depth and space and ambition. Floating on this wonderful post! The Fragrant Journey reviews Geisha Vanilla Hinoki Perfume ❤️ Geisha Vanilla Hinoki opens with a brightness, but it is toned down by a meditative, almost camphorous wood smell. t is like being in a forest when the clouds above part and a ray of sunshine pierces the tree canopy. Then the clouds again cover the sun, muting its brightness. The Vanilla is soft, maybe a little green, and more like smelling the pods than sweet vanilla desserts. The wood and vanilla seem to merge as one note so that neither one takes precedence; it's a perfect partnering. If you normally shy away from vanilla scents, this could be the one for you. At no point does this ever scream "vanilla perfume" to me. Once the vanilla enters the mix, Vanilla Hinoki becomes more of a skin scent.
