idea: bass guitar boyfriend that “purrs” when happy (vibrates at a super low frequency) and, even, dareisay, wraps his guitar strap around your wrists/hands to show affection
Seriously, Frederick the Great fandom sould have a meet up in Potsdam and call it Fritzcon and just stroll around the city, cosplaying and stuff like that, because it's totally the best fandom ever
I really want to get into the Fritzposting but my historical interests have always been more centered about a hundred years the other way... Do you rec any books to begin with? 🥺
Nancy Mitford’s bio has always been the first book that I rec to people who want to get to know Fritz! As someone who often struggle with bulky books, I always enjoyed her smart and witty history works :D
more recent english bios include those by Tim Blanning, Giles Macdonough, David Fraser (I’ve not read this one...), and Christopher Duffy (who wrote two books, both focused on military history)
and - there’s the book that I admire the most in the entire Fritz literature: De Catt’s memoirs. It’s written by Fritz’s fourth reader & secretary Henri de Catt, based on his diary from 1758 to 1760, but only published almost a century later! it covered arguably the darkest years of Frederick’s life in such a close and unique first-person narrative, which added so much to my understanding of Fritz’s character...
here’s the original in french (with german intro) and the 1916 English translation (in two vols: v.1 v.2)
