How would you adapted Daeron? (I saw your posts about how would you adapted Aegon and I loved so much)
Hello there & thank you! My idealized Aegon adaptation is one of my favourite pieces I've written, so I'm glad it resonated with people.
As it happens, I have another (old) ask like this:
Anonymous asked: How would you adapt Daeron the Daring? People might seen him like a gentle boy, and he definitely was, but always sicked with me that he was popular in the court and with the people, and we know what this means in AWOIAF (cunning politics baby). He might be male version of Maegary Tyrell. Not evil of course, but no saint, I can imagine him having anyone three times his age at the palm of his hands 🥹
Honestly, I would have preferred it if George aged up his characters, because some of these storylines are ridiculous if you think they're supposed to be carried out by literal teenagers. Daeron is 4 years younger than Aemond and 16 when he dies. In the show, I think he's supposed to be younger than Luke and he was super baby faced. So in my adaptation, all of them would be older, early twenties say, otherwise this is just going to be Harry Potter with dragons.
Daeron is a very easy character to like - charming, brave, easy-going, he is the closest thing we have to a traditional hero in this conflict. However, I wouldn't say he is a master manipulator type of character - first of all, he is very young; second of all, he is said to be more of a follower than a leader (again, perhaps because he is v young combined with the fact he has two older brothers with a steamroller personality). So I kind of see Daeron as quieter, courteous, more measured in his approach and pretty level-headed. Daeron wouldn't be someone quick to anger, but his rage should be incandescent when it is finally aroused (i.e. sacking of Bitterbridge).
Other than that, I'm afraid I don't have a lot of Daeron ideas at the moment, but one thing I'd hate to happen is for the show to have him similarly wiffle-waffle on the topic of succession, like they did with Alicent. There is this tendency within the fandom (and perhaps a little in the show too) to have likeable characters on the green side portrayed as somehow sympathetic to the blacks.
We see this in the show with Alicent, who can't seem to remember the legal arguments for why her firstborn son should be king and tells Rhaenyra she'd be a "good queen", so she totally regrets what she's about to do, guys! (+ the discourse on whether or not Alicent loves Rhaenyra more than her own children). We see this with Helaena a little, who has fun dancing with Jace (fair), but because of this, team black think she's a secret Rhaenyra stan or want to "save" her from the greens. We even see this with Aemond, with the fandom writing a ton of defection fics (they sure picked the character for this lmao) in which he is convinced by love interest Luke or OC Rhaenyra's daughter that his mother and brother are evil and he should bend the knee to his half-sister.
So, I really wouldn't like to see Daeron conflicted about this. In the texts, he despises Jace and his brothers. He knows his own brother should be king and gives his life to this cause. He loves his family and would never turn his cloak.

GRRM brutally killing a traumatized autistic 11 year old girl, and replacing her by a younger, happier and "prettier" girl, just to please a boy is so f******* up that I can't even explain
The political union was also a thing, but hey it's a Daemon kid so, I am pretty sure if Aegon II got pregnant by Daemon, Martin would let the kid live ☠️
In the AGOT summary, in the Targaryen line, it says that Viserys II is Aegon III's son. Why he changed that? Daeron I was 15 when he was crowded, so Martin married his father to child? Instead of changing the years of the Targaryen reign, he ratter pull Viserys II as a brother and married him to a 19 yr old? He was a father by 13? That old man is so weird sometimes. If Jaehaera was a Daenerys decent, I believe that Team Green x Team Black wouldn't be so strong and annoyingly repeatedly discussed by the fandom ☠️
I checked and you're right about Viserys II being Aegon III's (fourth!) son. Who was the third son, then?? I wonder what else he changed. It's difficult to keep track and fact-check.
Tumblr media
If Daenerys was Jaehaera's descendant, they'd be writing fic with Jaehaera defecting to team black, don't worry. 😵
