So after watching the first three seasons of Friday Night Lights I skipped to the episodes in which the cast that left guest star. Watching 4x06 and 5x12 back to back was really fun because Tim Riggins has the exact same plot in both. Tim's ex comes back to town and they rekindle the romance, but they know it will be short-lived because the ex has moved on to other things and Tim is stuck in their small hometown. There is a bittersweet hope that they may come back together for real down the road but it is unlikely. It makes sense with Lyla in 4x06 because they were together for the entirety of season 3. It is hilarious with Tyra in 5x12 because at that point they hadn't been together for years and they are definitely wearing nostalgia glasses and remembering their relationship as better than it was.
