one of my big comfort videos is the emily in paris ones from friendly space ninja, i dont really like emily in paris tho so i got exited and kinda confused when i saw this
Tumblr media
so apareantly they have a collab,,, and because im annoying and curious i ofc bought three products and you can now read a make up review from a 15 year old guy who has no idea about anything that isnt eyeshadow
(i already apologise if i use weird terms or my photos are shacky my arms are currently disabeling me)
the lipstick colour for emily was a really nice red, mindy and camille had kinda similar colours although camille had a more pink-ish tone unlike mindys, her colour was more orange and even more pale
the highliter was a gold-ish colour and the "lip & cheek blush" had three diffrent shades too, emilies was a red one wich was a very pretty colour and could be suited for darker skinned people while camille and mindys were not so suitible and they again had rather similar colours one more pink and one more orange
the lip balm was slightly tinted in a very nice orange-pinkish colour! tbh i cant really give a review on the quality on these products as i usually dont use this type of stuff BUT i will try my best
Tumblr media
i think the packaging is really nice! especially of the lipstick, im not a biggest fan of the packaging of the lip & cheek product tho
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
i think its cute and the lipstick has a simple but chic look to it, while the blush//lip product has a diffrent colour scheme and im not a particular fan of the design on it but the colour is very nice, as its camilles colour its more pink than i think the mindy one would have been but the mindy lipstick is also very pale and orange while still a pretty colour
Tumblr media
like i said the lip balm is a bit tinted but you dont see it on the lips, it has a very nice feel too it tho like most other lipbalms ive had now for the texture of the lipstick id say its pretty velvety and as i dont wear lipstick ofthen i think you will kinda notice the feel of it, from what ive noticed it also isnt smudge or stain proof but i didnt expect it to be!
now for camilles lip & cheek blush id say it feels nicer on the skin than on the lips, it might just be that im autistic and very sensitive to these things but i it stays wet relatively long on the lips and just becomes kind of sticky after a bit it is very pigmented tho but that also depends from skin to skin as i am relatively pale
now for the price,
i specifically paid 19.97 for these three products, i am not used to paying this much for beauty stuff but im pretty sure its actually a regular price if not actually pretty low depending on quality
blush, 6.99€ lipstick 6.99€ lip balm 5.99€
would i buy any of these products again? hell no! im not even gonna use two of em im gonna ask my friends if they want it, plus the show sucks no shame in saying that look at the show!! the eyeshadow pallete looks fine but youre able to get better for a similar price im pretty sure, the phone designs pretty cute tho!
another note id like to add,
i think its kinda funny how theres 3 shades for the lipstick and lip & cheek thing but 2 of said shades are catered towards white people and its probably more accidentally that emilies shades will probably look nice on darker skinned people as the show has a "small" issue with racism, but aside from that i think you could maybe make camilles lipstick work if u have tan skin, else unless you want emilies shades good luck!
ive also just realised that emily in paris has TWO not just one eye shadow palletes AND also has a colab with essence,,,
so about the eyeshadow pallete and essence collab,
Tumblr media Tumblr media
these are from the make up revoloution website, now i think with the first one you could work more with if you have darker skin and the second one would be more difficult, i think the packeging designs are pretty nice and very on brand for emily in paris! the colours are okay id say
as for essences collab tho essence from what i know is a german brand so they are more white//light skin catering too and the products are like the show, painfully white.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
they do also have an eyeliner and mascara if i saw correctly, but else i think these products would be relatively hard to use if you were a bit darker than a tan but knowing essence these probably are okay quality and an okay texture//feel the price is like usual cheap

Repaint Woes: wtf did I do wrong ahahahaha
(Originally posted Jan 23, 2022 on Patreon! Become a patron for as little as $3 a month at patreon.com/pandorkful to catch updates early!)
Tried making this post a few weeks ago, but the Patreon app crashed exactly as I was finishing up >_< So this is attempt #2. But the upside of having to rewrite everything is: I'm pretty sure I know exactly what I did wrong now.
So, I've had this Obitsu Slim Male 01 head since mid-November, 2007. He's had a bunch of face-ups over the past 14-ish years, at least 4 that I can recall, and he's now on his 3rd body. He's my 1/6 scale Ghaleon, the first custom doll I ever put together, and super special to me.
Tumblr media
I was really happy with his most recent previous faceup, which I did sometime between 2013-2015. Unfortunately, the gloss on his lips and eyes eventually went tacky and picked up a gross layer of dust and lint, a problem I've had with every gloss varnish I've ever tried for faceups on vinyl heads. (Idk if it's something about the environment in the area I live in messing it up or what, but I've about given up on glossing eyes and lips now ahahaha)
Additionally, the white saran hair I had rooted back in 2007 had yellowed into a sickly blond and had gotten brittle with age and handling.
So sometime in late summer, 2021, I decided it was time to give him a complete reroot and repaint! I had a bit of white alpaca suri left over from making a wig (for my 1/3 scale bjd Ghaleon hehe) a few years ago, and decided to use it up for the reroot. I did a combination of tension method rooting and needlefelting to secure the natural hair fiber inside the head. I really should make a video on how to do it sometime, cuz it's way easier to show it than it is to explain. XD Anyway, it turned out really great and very secure--almost no fiber loss when I comb his hair!
Tumblr media
(See the aforementioned wig on your left. :3 And look at how yellow that saran had gotten even back then--this pic is from 2015.)
Ghaleon's currently on a Barbie Looks tall mtm body (that I still need to do top surgery on with my dremel) which is a shade darker than the Obitsu "white" vinyl color--almost a perfect match to Obitsu "normal" actually. So I was gonna need to blushing to match the head to the body... if I had been motivated to set up a place outside my new apartment to do some MSC spraying, that is.
At my old place, when I was still living with my folks, we had a nice enclosed "courtyard" I could set up for spraying without feeling self conscious--my current apartment has a yard, but it's wide open to gawkers :P And it's currently a mess from my landlord-adjacent guy doing work on the downstairs apartment, AND I don't have any lawn furniture to prop dolls up on. Sooooo....
I said fuck it, I'm just gonna colormatch with paint. No problem.
It should have been no problem, I've done this several times before! To great effect! I have a good eye for mixing colors! Here, look at this acetone shrunk MH Finnegan Wake head I painted to match a Xinyi body (which was Ghaleon's 2nd body for a short time, btw):
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He's a little textured from the layers of paint, yeah, but it looks pretty natural in pics and almost unnoticeable in person. I started painting this head not long before I moved, btw, in 2019. Really need to finish him soon. That'll be a future post, haha!
Anyway. Ghaleon's repaint... didn't go so smoothly as that one did, as you can guess from the cover image.
Tumblr media
(Plz excuse the static--suri is gorgeous... when it isn't winter. >_< Still need to clean up/feather the bangs at some point...)
From a cursory glance, you can't tell that there's really any issues. I think the faceup turned out pretty alright, I'm not crazy with the darker lipstick and eyeshadow I went with, and it's been a couple years since I'd last painted a doll's face so I felt really rusty--but over all, not terrible.
But, if you get closer...
Tumblr media
Cracks, flaking. Oh no.
We'll come back to this in a second. At the same time I was working on this head, I was also finishing up a second Obitsu SM01 head to be Eternal Blue Ghaleon...
Tumblr media
I'm less happy with how this faceup turned out, I didn't do as good a job color matching--and you can see the cracks very clearly. The "crazing" almost works with his purple scars, but it also just looks like caked-on makeup to me. :-/
Tumblr media
Soooo.... what went wrong with these two heads? Why did these color matching attempts crack and flake while my previous ones have held steady??
I think it could be a combination of factors--the MH head was acetone shrunk, so it was very hard and had no give to it to allow cracking to occur. Obitsu vinyl is also very, very soft in general, and preforms best when it's been sealed with Mr Super Clear Matte.
But I think the true culprit is this: I remember mixing mod podge into my paint when I painted Finnegan's head, but I didn't mix any medium into my paints when I painted the Obitsu heads. Additionally, I used artist grade acrylics when I painted Finnegan, but used hobby paints for miniatures when I painted the Obitsu heads.
I think the issue is buried somewhere between those two points, experimentation is probably required to figure out if I'm right or not... but in the end, since I know that MSC is just the better method to prep an Obitsu head for paint, and it's too cold to paint comfortably right now... maybe I'll just wait for spring to redo these faceups with MSC, anyway. :P
Oh, on a semi-related note, I decided to try the new Barbie Looks guy as a base for Dyne:
Tumblr media
I think the Ghaleons have accepted him.

I'd love to know some of your favorite makeup products, if you're gonna talk about it 👀
ghsskjh I’m SO READY for this, I literally made a photo collage, so if you feel like a long makeup post, go ahead! I’ll just give you an overview of my favorite products I use basically all the time. Unfortunately; I am not getting paid for talking about all these products/brands, lol.
Tumblr media
These are my absolute favorites which I use pretty much on a daily basis. At the bottom you can see Photo-loving primer, Absolute Control Foundation (literally my shade, I am so pale) and a setting powder, all by NYX, to begin with the face.
Their Bangkok palette includes a lipstick, 4 eyeshadows, highlighter and a blush, which I definitely recommend, the colors go great together and you can basically do your whole face with one palette! I don’t recommend the purple lipstick included tho, it doesn’t seem the best quality and it needs like a million coats to be actually bright.
That nude eyeshadow palette in the middle is by The Balm and I love it! The best nude palette I’ve ever used, the colors are bright and long lasting and you can combine all of them into so many different looks. 10/10.
Bottom left - NYX vivid brights eyeliners, I have the yellow and the lavender one, and honestly they’re so great I want them all! I’d say they’re quite easy to apply, smooth and really bright.
Mini lipstick kit right above those is also amazing, by The Balm cosmetics. I’ve been using it forever and it’s super practical that it includes a lot of shades in small packages! All the colors are absolutely gorgeous, the texture is thick and needs like 2 coats to be nice and even. They’re pretty long-lasting too, only they tend to dry out sometimes and you gotta put on some lip balm. But definitely a great product.
Another thing I adore is the Ultimate Edit eyeshadow palette, again by NYX (I literally use like 3-4 brands the whole time lol). LOOK AT THOSE COLORS! I love mixing them and eventually using them with eyeliner for a very colorful look. One thing - they’re not all so bright so they need a few coats to really stand out, but they’re pretty long lasting.
The Balm’s “Mary-Lou Manizer” highlighter might actually be the love of my life. It’s drop dead gorgeous, shiny, rich and long lasting. Glow for days!!!
To top it all of, MAC’s iconic red shade Ruby Woo. The prettiest matte red I’ve ever come across, it’s worth the price and the hype. Long lasting and absolutely beautiful, possibly even my favorite makeup product I’ve ever bought.
I hope you enjoyed my accidentally super long makeup rant! And thank you for asking about this, it turned out to be really fun 💖💖💖

Mega Project Pan 2019 Part 2
Tumblr wouldn’t let me upload everything at once, so here’s a round two!
Tumblr media
Left to Right
104. Clinique lotion - Goal is to use out, it’s a sample size.
105.Garnier Honey Shampoo - It works, but I have other shampoos I enjoy more. Goal is to use out.
106. Milani coconut lip treatment - Goal is to see progress. I’ve had this for 3+ years.
107.Sally Hansen Set Sail - Goal is to use this out, I’ve got too many nailpolishes. Seems insane, but this polish dries fast BUT it seems to chip faster than the polishes that take forever to dry, so I usually have to do my nails 2x a week. That being said, the brush doesn’t always get down to the bottom of the bottle, so it’s basically only got a few uses in it.
Tumblr media
108. Nyx Doll - Goal is to use more often.
109 Nyx Athens - No clue how much is left in here, but I want to see if I can use it out.
110.Jordana Matte Bare - Goal is just to use it more.
111.Nyx Matte lipstick - This is basically new, but I want to use it at least a little.
112-113. Clinique lipstick + mascara - The lipstick is almost done, so my goal is to use it out. The mascara is almost dried, so I’ll likely mark it complete when the lipstick is done.
114. LA Colors Sea Shells - There’s nothing wrong with this aside from it’s old. goal is to use more.
115.Nyx Arigato - Almost new, goal is to use a few times.
Tumblr media
116. HoliPop cheek tint. - I bought this a few months ago and haven’t really used it aside from trying it out like once, so I want to use it a bit more. Goal is just to use.
117-118 LA Colors Nail Duet - Red + Glitter - These are mini polishes, so my goal is to use out the red one, and make significant progress on the white one.
119. Sally Hansen Re-Teal Therapy- Goal is just to see movement on it, since I’ve not worn it much recently.
120. Clinique Black Honey - This is SO old it’s not funny. I’ve had it in like 2? 3? Project pans before, and never do much with it. Goal for this one is to use it out.
121.Victoria’s Secret Lipstick - I actually enjoy the scent of this one, and the color isn’t half bad. I just want to use it more. No clue how full it is because the color is painted on the bottle...
122.Milani Naturally Chic - I’ve had this since highschool, and have only used it perhaps a handful of times. Goal is just to use.
123. LA Colors Lipstick - This one is basically new. Goal is to use.
Tumblr media
124. Coca Cola Cherry lipbalm - Goal is to make progress on. I’ve had this since high school.
125. Butterfly mascara - This is the second time I’ve bought this product, but my goal is just to use it more since I’ve neglected an open tube of mascara.
126. Tarte mini lipgloss - goal is to use out. I’m not a fan of the minty tingle this has, and I’ve managed to yoink out the stopper somehow, so it’s definitely going to be annoying to use.
127. Wet n Wild Stoplight red - This was my favorite lipstick in highschool. Which makes it like 6 years old. Goal is to make progress on.
128.Nuance My Favorite - I love the color and texture of this, but the tube itself is a bit damaged. Goal is to use out.
129. Nivea Care + Color Lipbalm - I enjoy this when I need just a subtle tint of color, and it’s very nice to apply/wear. Goal is just to make progress.
130. Wet n Wild Cushion lipstick - Goal is just to use more often, since I don’t reach for this one much due to the funny applicator.
Tumblr media
Left to Right, top to bottom.
131-138. Handaiyan Blue Ocean Palette - She Young, Cashmere, Honeymoon, Pumpkin Pie, Dusty Rose, Cocoa, vintage, and Unicorn Tears. The Blue eyeshadow here was damaged upon arrival, but otherwise, the palette is barely used. Goal is just to use these shadows a bit, especially when Autumn rolls around.
139. Laura Geller Blush n Brighten in Berry - This has damaged packaging, so no lid. It’s been chilling in my Z-Palette for the most part. It’s also VERY used, although it doesn’t look it since it’s a baked product. BUT, it’s gone from being domed to being flat on top. Goal here is to hit ‘pan’ (or the ‘tile’ they bake it on).
140-147. Fashion Nova Eyeshadow Palette - Top to bottom, pans 1, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10. These are rather small, so goal is just to use these a few times. I’ll especially look forward to using it when September-October rolls around!
148-149. ELF vampire palette - right row, pans 2 +3 - Goal is just to wear off the top pattern on these...
Tumblr media
Top to bottom, left to right.
150. Mally blush - Goal - wear off the top pattern.
151. Victoria’s Secret Lip Scrub - Goal - Make obvious progress on.
152. Jordana Classic Bronze - Goal - use
153-155. Cream Blush Palette - pans 1, 3, and 4, top to bottom. Goal is to make progress on.
156. Urban Decay Primer Potion - goal is to use, I’ve had this forever.
157. Loreal Everlasting Rose - Goal is just to use and see progress on.
158. LA Colors Stardust - Goal is to use, see some progress.
159. NYX French Fries - Goal is just to use.
160. Wet n Wild Eyebrow Pencil - Goal is to use out, as it’s almost done and the actual product is so soft it runs out super easily.
161. ELF liquid eyeliner - Goal is just to use more often.
162. LA Colors Red lipliner - Goal is to use out.
I should note I managed to take pictures of the ELF Vampire Beauty book TWICE because I forgot to pick it up. LOL.
Tumblr media
163. Nailtek Nail Treatment - I’ve had this for 2+ years. Goal is to use out.
164. Sinful Colors Nailpolish - Goal is to see progress on.
165. Covergirl Peacock Mascara - Goal is to use.
166. Wet n Wild Lipgloss - Goal is to use.
167. Kokie Rosewood - goal is to use more often.
168. Sleek Red liquid lipstick - goal is to use a few times, maybe see some movement.
169. Jordana Matte Lipstick - goal is to see some progress.
170. Burberry mini perfume - Goal is to use out - I’ve got too many tiny perfume samples!
Tumblr media
171. Bareminerals Maverick - Goal is to use more often, maybe see some progress.
172. Sally Hansen pink nailpolish - goal is to use out.
173. Hemp Seed Lotion - Goal is to use out, it’s almost done, perhaps a few more uses in it.
174. Maybelline Fit Me - It’s mostly used up, goal is to finish it.
175. Ultra Repair cream - Goal is to use out.
176. Hask Hair treatment - Goal is to use out, it’s basically a single use vial.
177. Mini Purity cleanser - Goal is to use out, since it’s travel-sized.
Tumblr media
178. Victoria’s Secret Heavenly Gel Perfume - Goal is to use out - I’m not a huge fan of the way this feels, and i’ve got other perfumes I love more.
179. Kleancolor Nailpolish - Goal is to see Progress
180. NYX French Maid - Goal is to use more, I’ve no idea how much is left since the tube is so damaged.
181. ELF Pink lipstick - Goal is just to use more.
182. Wet n Wild Frosted lipstick - goal is to use a few times.
183. Celavi Lipstick - goal is to use a few times, maybe round off the top.
And again, this is as much as Tumblr will let me put into one single post, so there’s going to be a part three, and maybe part four coming up soon(ish)

It’s Ipsy time! Up for review are my Ipsy bag for December, an Ipsy deal, and an Ipsy shopper purchase (not pictured). I’m really loving Ipsy, and the deals are pretty good, but not impressed with the shopper option. I didn’t read through, so didn’t realize the 50% discount on what I purchased was a cashback offer so they send the check to you later. If you cancel Ipsy before you get the money, you lose the cashback. To me, the whole cashback thing is kind of useless (unless it’s like ebates or something): if you’re going to offer me a cashback discount, just give me the discount. So I’m unlikely to use the shopper option again, though this time is giving me a chance to try something I’ve been wanting for a bit now.
In my bag this month: First Aid Beauty Face Cleanser ($5), a Luxie  Precision Shader Onyx Brush 239 ($14), Pixi by Petra  Mesmerizing Mineral Duo in Orchid Ornament ($10), Smashbox Legendary Lipstick in Legendary ($15), and Lottie London Lottie Lacquer in Riot ($8). Total Value: $52. Really pleased with this month’s bag in general, and the bag itself is gorgeous. (On a side note: the three bags I’ve kept so far are all “special occasion” bags that I don’t want to just toss in my purse but use as a night out kind of bag.)
The deal I picked up for $10 was the Glamour Dolls x Lisa Frank collab, which includes an Eyeshadow in Stargazer ($6.99), the Bitten & Bronzed Matte Bronzer ($4.99), an Angled Blush Brush ($4.99), and a Blending Brush ($4.99). Total Value: $21.96. The Shopper deal was for the First Aid Beauty 5-in-1 Eye Cream.
Let’s get to the reviews, starting with the bag!
First Aid Beauty Face Cleanser :: I’ve reviewed this before, and was so happy to see this in my bag. A little goes a long way, so this sample will last a bit. It sits in my shower.
Luxie  Precision Shader Onyx Brush :: This is a really nice brush. The handle is pretty sturdy, the  bristles are soft, and it picks up a decent amount of shadow and applies it really well. I can pack or brush easily. It isn’t as small as a detail brush, so while not as big as a larger shadow brush, it doesn’t quite count as a precision brush to me. Still it fits well in the inner corner of my eye. Very pleased!
Pixi by Petra  Mesmerizing Mineral Duo :: The colors in the pan are pretty, one with a light pinkish sheen, the other a nice purple-burgundy. The pigmentation is pretty decent, but the lighter color would have disappeared into my skin if it wasn’t a shimmer, and the darker berry ended up more brownish on my lid, which is disappointing. I was really loving the burgundy in the pan. Overall, the duo is disappointing but generally usable though not particularly spectacular. I’m giving this to ProjectBeautyShare.org for someone who might get more use out of the colors than I would.
Smashbox Legendary Lipstick :: This looks more red than it actually is, and is a bit too pink for my tastes. It applied a bit more sheer than I expected, but it builds up well.  It’s creamy, smooth, and very beautifully glossy. I did try to wear it alone, but eventually put a darker color over it because it really is a bit too pink (and orange under  toned pink at that, I much prefer blue under tones in my pinks and reds). I then tried it over a darker color and liked it much better that way, so it got saved from the PBS box just because it’s easy to layer and adds a light, bright glossiness to other colors.
Lottie London Lottie Lacquer :: The color in the bottle look really dark blue, but is much lighter when applied and has a touch of shimmer in it—it really is very pretty. And it holds up pretty well too, even to my dish washing (which is something I need in my polishes). when it does start to come off though, it tends to chip in such a way that it develops bits that catch on things. Still, really like it!
Next up, both the weekly deal and the Shopper purchase.
Lisa Frank Eye Shadow :: This is a beautiful, shimmery, golden brown that actually works on my lids. Browns can be problematic for me since a number of them disappear into my skin. This is actually pretty close to my skin tone, but the shimmer helps it show up and brings out my eyes. However, at the suggestion of my daughter, I tried it as a highlight, and I love using it that way more than I do as a lid color.
Bitten & Bronzed Matte Bronzer :: This is a little light for me and tends towards a warmer tone than I usually use. I had to build it up to get it to show on my skin. I think this may be more suitable for me in the summer, when a warmer tone will enhance that sun-kissed look, though I’m concerned it might end up too light since my perma-tan tends to darken at that time. We’ll see how this works then.
Lisa Frank Angled Blush Brush :: This brush is rather small and feels a little cheap (which, yea, they really are)—where the gold ferrule meets the handle feels a little loose, and the whole thing is lightweight (VERY lightweight). It worked for applying highlight, but is too small for blush or contour, and the bristles are too soft for the way I apply blush. I don’t think I’ll be reaching for it much, but it is very pretty.
Lisa Frank Blending Brush :: Like the blush brush, this brush is on the lighter side, but it’s soft and picked up and distributed shadow pretty well. I like it better than the angled brush, so am more likely to reach for it. That said, the quality isn’t as good as even most of my cheaper brushes, and the lighter weight is off putting (elf brushes may be cheap, but they still have a decent weight to them that was missing from this). I do like the bristles and how it applied the shadow, so we’ll see if it gets used or not. If not, it’s a pretty display brush.
First Aid Beauty 5-in-1 Eye Cream :: This was a much smaller container than I expected considering the price, but like most FAB products, a little goes a long way (seriously, for each eye, just one tiny drop covers it). My eyes were recovering from irritation with another product when I started using this, and the cream didn’t aggravate the issue. It initially leaves the area under the eye slightly greasy feeling, but it absorbs quickly and the feeling goes away. It claims to smooth, brighten, even out tone, nourish and moisturize. Haven’t been using it very long, but I think I may be seeing some improvement in texture under my eyes, if nothing else. May have to update on this one later.
Overall, domy tried these and is very pleased with everything this month. Even the disappointments weren’t that bad, especially with only one item already slated for the PBS box (and it was actually okay, just not good for my skin tone).
Upcoming reviews will include an Urban Decay mini-haul, Glossybox, Lola Beauty Box, a new box called Yes Oh Yas, and a number of freebie samples that will likely go into 3 or 4 separate posts with a few of them not showing up this month. The three beauty boxes will be unboxed on my YouTube channel in a triple threat video before they show up here. Hoping to get that up before the end of the week (waiting for Glossy to show up).
In the meantime, I hope you and yours have a wonderful holiday, whichever one you celebrate. :)

AMAs 2019: The Best Skin, Hair and Makeup Looks on the Red Carpet
At the annual American Music Awards, the biggest names in music get a chance to make a statement on the red carpet—and this year, it was louder than ever!
Among the beauty looks: a retro bob, red eyeshadow and bleached-out eyebrows....
Keep scrolling for all the hair and makeup you need to see!
Selena Gomez

Unpopular opinion: Selena had my favourite look of the night! I know this hairstyle wasn't everyone's taste, but I've always love a curled-under retro bob. (Here, I think it really modernizes her almost '80s-inspired dress.) The soft, neutral makeup works well, although her skin finish could be a tad less matte.
Taylor Swift

I've got more of an issue with Taylor's outfit than her beauty look—what were those boots?! But this could still be better. On the plus side, her skin looks flawless and the matte coral lipstick is gorgeous, even if the lip liner is too obvious. It's her side-swept textured hairstyle that falls flat, or maybe it just doesn't work with everything else going on.
Ciara
Tumblr media

Can we take a moment to appreciate Ciara's insane bone structure? Those cheekbones! And her skin just glows, needing what looks like very, very little foundation. The swipe of blue liner under each eye is a nod to her outfit, paired with brown smoky shadow and a cool-toned pink lip. Really nice!
Ciara is wearing: Primer • Eyeshadow in Blood Moon, Jubilee and Vermillion Venom • Eyeliner in Blitz Brown and Blitz Blue
Katherine Langford

Katherine did a very editorial look, rocking what her makeup artist described as "red velvet eyes." The creativity here is amazing! Her eyeshadow doesn't match her dress exactly (which I like), and it diffuses into a blush, which reminds me of Rihanna at the 2017 Met Gala. The little gold beads along her hairline are the perfect finishing touch.
Dua Lipa
Tumblr media

At first glance, I thought this was Hailey Bieber! I didn't recognize Dua as a blonde—here's how striking she looked with dark hair, so I hope she goes back to that. The high, cheerleader ponytail seems a little dated, but the makeup (or lack thereof) is okay. Maybe her brows were brushed up a little too aggressively.
Constance Wu

Seeing Constance in space buns was totally unexpected, but I'm here for it. This hairstyle gives her a much more playful vibe than usual. And the makeup has a lighter touch than the last time we saw her, at TIFF. I like the soft metallic liner and coral lip gloss, but perhaps her brow pencil could be ashier.
Lizzo
Tumblr media

Tumblr media

Lizzo went for a '60s-inspired look in shades of peach (even though it was her ridiculously tiny purse that stole the show!). It's all super costumey, but the makeup is actually pretty good. I like how the false lashes are long but soft, framed by a halo of diffused colour and strong brows. However, I'm not a fan of this hairstyle or texture at all.
Lizzo is wearing: Foundation • Concealer • Powder • Eyeshadow in Punk (as contour) • Lip gloss in Snitch (as highlighter) • Eyeshadow in No Shame • Eyeshadow in Guilt Trip, Jet, Hell Ride and Wildheart • Eyeliner in Starfire • Brow pencil in Dark Drapes • Lip liner in 1993 • Lip gloss in Star Stunner
Jameela Jamil
Tumblr media

I'm not mad about it, but Jameela always looks the same at awards shows. Hair down, bangs, cat eyes and a bold lip—it's only the colours that vary! This time, her eyeliner is super glittery, and the lipstick is a nice juicy berry tone. I guess when you find something that works this well, you don't stray from it!
Kelly Osbourne

It's been years since I've seen Kelly on a red carpet—not since 2015!—and I have to say, she's looking really good. Actually, she might be the only celebrity who actually looks better in bright purple hair! I love how she styled it with bangs and a ponytail with a big bow. And it was smart to stick with warmer peach tones in her makeup.
Kesha
Tumblr media

I had no clue this was Kesha, what with her new black hair that looks like she just stepped out of the shower! It's certainly a memorable look, although I wish her hair was slicked back (instead of these helmet-like baby bangs). Makeup-wise, I love that she doesn't hide her freckles, and the exaggerated cat eyes are super fierce.
Jenna Dewan
Tumblr media

We just saw Jenna at the People's Choice Awards, and this look isn't that different. Instead of a smooth blowout, her hair is textured and parted down the middle. But she stayed in her comfort zone with a muted red lipstick, metallic eyeshadow and loads of blush. She's gorgeous, but it's a little heavy (thanks to the foundation and false lashes) and doesn't feel the most current.
Jenna is wearing: Primer • Foundation • Concealer in Ocher • Powder in Medium
Camila Cabello

I'm all for an au naturel look, but I can't help but feel underwhelmed by Camila's ensemble. The extra-long braid is something new, I'll give her that, but we've seen the same tousled bangs and low-key makeup many times before. She needs to mix it up a little!
Carrie Underwood
Tumblr media

You all know how I feel about Carrie's beauty aesthetic in general, but compared to her last appearance on this blog—at the 2017 Golden Globes—this is an improvement! Her eyebrows are more natural this time, and the eye makeup is a lot more toned down (although I wouldn't expect her to give up her beloved lashes). As usual, though, it's way too heavy overall. Does anyone else think she is doing lip injections now? Compare and contrast!
Halsey
Tumblr media

After her girly glam look at the Emmys, nobody was expecting this from Halsey! While the rainbow eyeshadow definitely has some artistry to it that I can appreciate, I don't think anyone really looks good without eyebrows. Maybe it would've worked better if her hair was just slicked back, instead of having these extra crimped pieces.
Christina Aguilera
Tumblr media

Remember when Christina did a super natural look at the 2018 Billboard Awards? We need more of that and less of... whatever this is. She actually has beautiful skin, but you don't notice it with the distraction of the weird outfit, heavy eye makeup and swollen lips.
Billie Eilish

Then we have Billie, who discovered the best way to avoid all this hair and makeup business. The look is Chic Beekeeper!

Birchbox review: A great subscription box for skincare enthusiasts looking to discover new brands - Mashable
Every product here is independently selected by Mashable journalists. If you buy something featured, we may earn an affiliate commission which helps support our work.
Tumblr media
It's what's on the inside that counts, but that packaging is pretty damn nice, too.
Image: nicole cammorata/mashable
Super customizable • Loyalty points for discounts • Extra focus on skin and hair care • Great value for the price
Samples can be tiny • Less than stellar customer service • Repeated products
For skin and hair obsessives, these monthly samples are a clutch way to discover new products — just don't expect a $10 box to singlehandedly stock your collection.
The makeup world is officially taking over. This $60 billion industry continues to grow and according to Statista, "consumers have been spending higher levels of disposable income on cosmetics than they had in the past." In fact, during economic hard times, buyer interest in cosmetics stays steady — something economists have cheekily dubbed the "lipstick effect."
Considering Instagram is packed with beauty gurus and their flawless skin, and that a Google search for the term "makeup tutorial" returns a whopping 700 million hits, I'd say that our beauty obsession isn't going away any time soon.
If you're anything like me, you regularly spend more money on makeup than groceries. (#sorrynotsorry) But for the beginners out there who are trying to figure out a way to learn the ropes of the industry without setting their wallet aflame, beauty subscription boxes are the answer. One of the most popular (if not the most popular) choices is Birchbox.
Launched in 2010 as the OG beauty subscription box, Birchbox sees over one million subscribers and over four million customers total, which includes online purchases from the Birchbox store and from the physical Birchbox store in New York. Though 2015-2016 were relatively rough years for the company (and the country as a whole, honestly), Birchbox recently had a record-breaking year of growth in 2017, turning profit for the first time in a while and seeing a 63% increase in subscribers.
So, I've set out to answer the question on every beauty junkie's mind...
The short answer: Hell yes.
The long answer: Get a bowl of popcorn and keep reading. I'll get pretty in-depth here, guys, because if there's one thing I take seriously in this world, it's my beauty products. Before I get into the nitty gritty, here's the gist
You'll get five samples per month ranging from makeup, to skin care, to hair care.
The value of each box ranges from $20 to $40.
Birchbox supplies more of a variety of makeup, skincare, and hair care products than Ipsy, which sends mostly cosmetics and less skin or hair care products.
Birchbox's loyalty program offers discounts on full-sized items in the Birchbox store, as well as extra amounts off when you review a product online.
Now, onto the good stuff.
Packaging: Aesthetic overload
Tumblr media
Image: nicole cammorata/mashable
Let's talk about this adorable packaging for a sec. Not only are these mini gift boxes perfect to reuse for gifting over holidays or as storage for small items like jewelry, they're also hella cute. You can tell Birchbox really puts effort into them and it's much appreciated — and actually makes me trust their item choices even more.
You don't get a cute little makeup bag like you do with some other boxes, which could be a bummer — but those bags are sometimes worthless and end up taking up space in a drawer most of the time.
But it's what's on the inside that counts
Tumblr media
Image: nicole cammorata/mashable
Each month, you'll receive five beauty treats ranging from makeup, to hair stuff, to skincare, to fragrances from both premium and niche brands. The actual value of the boxes ranges from $20-$40. Considering you could spend that much on a single item at Sephora, that value is pretty insane since you're getting five items for $10.
You can also choose between two different boxes each month: Choose a curated box, where you can preview all of the samples you'll be getting that month, or a choice box, where you choose one of your samples and get surprised by the rest. Many months also offer the option to choose a featured box or Guest Editor box, which will include hand-picked items by your favorite YouTube bloggers and gurus. Regardless of your choice, the price won't go up — and all you have to do is log onto your beauty profile to let Birchbox know what you want.
Men who aren't interested in receiving makeup samples can also subscribe to Birchbox Plus, a monthly dose of all things grooming, lifestyle, and men's health related for the same $10/month. They also have a ton of options for free gifts with your box like leather NFL coasters, BENNKAI sunglasses, and more. (*Hint gift idea hint*)
You can't expect full-sized items when you're paying what you would for one travel-sized thing.
Keep in mind that most of the items will be pretty small. They're perfect to try new products before jumping all-in on the (expensive) full-sized product and are great to throw in your bag for an on-the-go emergency kit — but you're gonna be disappointed if you wanted Birchbox to singlehandedly stock your beauty collection. It's $10, guys. You get what you pay for. You can't expect full-sized items when you're paying what you would for one travel-sized thing in the Sephora check out line. If that's what you're looking for, hit up Boxycharm.
But full-sized items aren't totally off the table yet: If you get a sample you really like, you can order a full-size version (with free shipping) in the Birchbox shop, and then get $1 back in loyalty points for every $10 you spend.
They're themed based on the month, so that's fun
Everyone knows that everything is more fun with a theme and beauty boxes are way better when the products are sent according to the month (or at least the current season).
The April Box was (aptly and adorably) dedicated to Earth Day and included all clean beauty items or items that sought to honor Mother Earth:
Clarins Multi-Active SPF 20 Day Cream (full size $54)
CLEAN Reserve Citron Fig Eau De Parfum (full size $95)
COOLA Classic SPF 30 Dawn Patrol Primer (full size $42)
OUAI Volume Spray (full size $26)
Wander Beauty Catch the Light Highlighter and Glowtion (full size $34)
My favorite box recently was July, which featured five products to combat those devilish, sweaty, and frizzy 90+ degree days:
amika Perk Up Dry Shampoo (full size $32)
Beauty Protector Protect & Blonde (full size $23)
Coastal Scents Blush & Bronzer Palette (full size $19.95)
Marcelle Hydra-C 24H Energizing Hydrating Gel (full size $21)
Stila Cosmetics Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick (full size $22)
I needed that bronzer palette because I'm pale AF, and I used the shit out of that dry shampoo when I was skipping hair wash days on vacation. I also found my new favorite lipstick shade thanks to this box. (I ended up buying the full-size version of that lipstick and used that sweet Birchbox store discount. Boo ya.)
Tumblr media
Image: nicole cammorata/mashable
December's boxes aim to dazzle up your holiday glow and give users a $10 off coupon and an extra treat to stay in line with the giving season. Subscribers receive items like special primer to combat winter dryness and flaky skin, festive shimmery liquid eyeshadow, fashion tape (holiday dresses literally never cooperate), and more items to make sure you're the best looking one at the office's holiday party.
A few of my favorite brands that I've received from Birchbox are Stila, Keihl's, Benefit, Smashbox, OUAI, and Coola. While it's always nice to get samples from premium brands that you know are trustworthy, don't freak out if you open a box to find that you haven't heard of any of the brands. If they weren't nice, Birchbox wouldn't put them in there — and they provide a handy card that explains each product and how much it costs IRL. Imagine how cool you'll feel when you discover a new go-to item and get to feel like a damn guru when you suggest it to all of your friends.
Personalization: Pretty on point
Sure, getting samples of expensive brands for a fraction of the price is cool, but it doesn't really matter if none of them are things you can use. Good thing Birchbox has you create a personal beauty profile to give them an idea of the kinds of products that will work best for you — because makeup isn't always one size fits all.
The questionnaire will ask about your skin type, skincare concerns (like dark spots or acne), skin tone, hair color and texture, whether you color your hair or style it with heat, and what your makeup experience is — are you a newbie or could you teach a class? Do you stick with nude tones or go for the neon palettes? You'll also get to mention if you'd prefer more makeup, more skincare, or more haircare products. I marked that my hair is extremely thick and that my skin concerns were acne, aging, and dark spots.
Here's what they sent according to my profile:
OUAI Wave Spray (full size $26)
Lipstick Queen Lip Liner in Raisin (full size $18)
Love of Color One & Done Shadow Stick in Champagne Problems (full size $10)
COOLA SPF 30 Dawn Patrol Setting Spray (full size $36)
(MALIN + GOETZ) grapefruit face cleanser (full size $36)
They did pretty well following my requests, if you ask me. The tousling spray for curly hair and cleanser make sense for obvious reasons, and no makeup enthusiast will ever be upset with a new setting spray. Though I'm not a fan of stick or roll on eyeshadow and usually use my liquid lipstick without liner, that's a super specific personal preference that I didn't even mention in my beauty profile. Don't judge the actual products so much as how they listened to your preferences and the brands they send.
However, if you really aren't feeling one of the items you receive and want to make sure you don't get it or something similar again, you can review the item online and Birchbox will take that into consideration when packing your next box. You can also go back into your beauty profile and change preferences at any time, which is convenient if you dye your hair a totally different color or something like that.
Don't judge the actual products so much as how well they listened to your preferences.
Downsides: A few complaints, but nothing too serious
This is probably just nit-picking, but one downside I wanted to mention is that repeated products seem to be thing — based on my boxes and on what I've gathered from other reviews. I mean, you can kind of expect this as they're trying to tailor boxes to millions of subscribers and can't keep a 20-foot long list of what they've already sent to each person — but when you're only getting five tiny samples, the last thing you want is to see the same thing you just got the month before. The surprise is half of the fun, right? They do try to combat this by allowing you to review products and note what you'd prefer to not receive again, which is nice of them. Though all subscribers obviously don't get identical shipments each month, it'd be nice if Birchbox could set aside the entirety of items they've sent out in a certain month and make sure there are at least a few months go by before the add those items to boxes again.
When it comes to personalization, I do wish they would have inquired about color preferences, just to make sure you're not getting a shade of lipstick that makes you look like a clown (though the complexion questions probably help with this). I guess it's a way to see how something looks on you instead of purchasing and hoping for the best, which is the entire point of Birchbox anyway. *Shrugs*
The competition: How do Ipsy and Play! by Sephora stack up?
10 bucks is an insanely good price for how much stuff you get, and Birchbox obviously isn't the only one taking advantage of that affordable AF market. If you've done any other research, I'm sure you've seen that Birchbox, Ipsy, and Play! by Sephora are all battling it out to be the $10 box with the best value. While Birchbox was struggling with sales a few years ago, Ipsy stayed sitting pretty, and continues to be Birchbox's number one competitor — and with the way they keep bumping up their subscriptions, Birchbox can't afford to stay complacent.
I wish Birchbox's beauty quiz inquired about eye and lip shades that you prefer instead of leaving it up to your complexion.
Ipsy's boxes range from $40-$80 in value, Play! by Sephora's boxes range from $40-$60 in value, and Birchbox subscriptions range from $25 to $40 in value each month. That's obviously a slightly lower value for the same price, and you obviously want the best bang for your buck — but I promise Birchbox meets that requirement, guys. They are the box that sends the most niche and less well-known brands — meaning they're gonna be less expensive — but the entire point of the subscription is to expose you to brands that you wouldn't find on mainstream shelves. Ipsy and Sephora don't exactly offer that variety.
And if you watch any YouTube tutorials, you know damn well that even the most famous beauty bloggers don't care if something is cheap. All that matters is that it's good, and Birchbox ensures that their samples are the best of the best — plus you're only spending $10, which is significantly less than what you'd spend on even one item in Sephora or Ulta.
As I mentioned earlier, I wish Birchbox's beauty quiz inquired about the eye and lip shades that you prefer to wear instead of leaving it all up to your complexion. Ipsy's beauty quiz really gets into the nitty gritty, asking what shades of eyeshadow, lipstick, eyeliner, blush, and nail polish you prefer, as well as the types of makeup you prefer to get in general (for instance, I never wear lip gloss or lip liner, so I'd prefer to just not deal with getting them). This makes the chance of getting something you don't like even smaller, which is obviously important as no one wants to spend a monthly fee on getting things they won't use. IMO, Ipsy's beauty quiz is just more user-friendly and fun to take, but this is not a deal breaker.
Where Birchbox does have an advantage is in its loyalty program: For every $10 you spend on a purchase at the Birchbox store, you'll receive $1 of loyalty points that can be used directly toward another purchase — it's just like a money-back credit card. Once you've spent $300 at Birchbox in a calendar year, you'll be bumped up to Ace status (similar to Sephora's VIB and Ulta's Platinum status) which gives significantly more points on purchases, AKA more money saved.
Play! by Sephora obviously only helps with loyalty points at Sephora in-store or online, which limits you to Sephora-only brands. Ipsy's loyalty program revolves around a point system where you get points for reviewing bags and products, following Ipsy creators on social media, and referring friends. While racking up points can happen relatively quickly, it's more work than Birchbox  — and Ipsy's points can only be redeemed on select product and expire eventually, whereas Birchbox is more flexible with their rewards.
If you follow a skincare routine religiously and care about your naked face over your caked face, Birchbox is the way to go.
Ipsy also recently launched a Plus version of their Glam Bag, which bumps the price up to $25/month and features five full-sized items instead of samples. The catch here is that you already have to be subscribed to Ipsy's $10 bag to participate, which does give them a slight leg up. (Why Birchbox hasn't upgraded to a full-sized box, I don't know. I'm just as surprised as you are, but after seeing what Ipsy's doing, it's not long until Birchbox does the same.)
It's nearly impossible to say which one is best. They're all good for different things, and trying to name one as "the best" doesn't really make sense. If you like to cake your face and care more about trying new makeup samples from more premium brands, go with Ipsy. If Sephora is your second home, you trust those brands, and would like to continue racking up VIB points, Play! will be your best friend. If you follow a skincare routine religiously and care about a naked face more than a caked face, Birchbox is the way to go. Jonathan from Queer Eye would be proud.
The good thing about all three is that they're only $10 per month. If reading reviews just isn't giving you enough deets, subscribing to all three for a few months to get the gist won't set you back too far, and you can just cancel the ones you don't like later.
Final verdict
Newbie to the entire industry? Get Birchbox.
Skincare-obsessed refuse to hit the hay without doing a skincare routine? Get Birchbox.
An expert who could school any YouTube blogger on a cut crease? Get Birchbox.
Tumblr media

Seriously, guys. Birchbox is great for beginners who want to try new brands before making the plunge to full price, but also clutch for experts who use samples in emergency run-out situations or to keep in on-the-go bags. It's a little more skin and hair oriented than competing boxes, which is something to keep in mind if you're choosing between this, Ipsy, or Play! by Sephora — but all true beauty connoisseurs know that expensive makeup isn't worth it if the skin underneath isn't healthy. The samples can be pretty small, so it's not the box to get if you're trying to stock a full makeup collection. But purse-sized items are still a necessity — you never know when you'll get stuck in the rain in non-waterproof mascara or need a breakout-clearing moisturizer when you're traveling.
If you're not great with change and only want to try premium brands, another box might be up your alley — the whole point of Birchbox is to discover brands and products that you wouldn't be able to find elsewhere. However, if your beauty tastes are more eclectic and you're down to discover niche brands and blaze a trail for your friends, Birchbox is about to open up a whole new world for you. [Review] Catrice Cosmetics on Full Face Makeup
Tumblr media
First of all, welcome to this blog~ And this embarked my first post ever on this blog, which will be about make-up products by Catrice Cosmetics. Now for those who haven’t been familiar with this brand, it is a German brand under Cosnova Beauty which is also a home of other brands such as essence and L.O.V.
This is my first (how many times have I mentioned the ‘first’ word here umm) time trying out this brand as well so why did I decide to do this as my first(dammit) post? Because they’re not pricey (YASSS! bought everything for less than IDR 647k / $49 USD) and they seem okay (yup what a convincing reason). Although this post is made by me, but my sister was doing the favor for the whole makeup and review.
Well, without further ado... Let’s jump onto the makeup!
FACE
~> FOUNDATION ( HD Liquid Coverage Foundation )
Tumblr media
claims to give 2nd skin effect with high coverage & texture giving off natural finish with 24 hours lasting power, has a total of 4 different shades
Mine was in shade 010 / light beige and bought it for IDR 108k (~$8) which was quite an okay price for a liquid foundation. My sister and I both have oily-combination skin type so this foundation pretty much does its job by giving off matte finish.
Pros
suitable for oily skin (matte finish)
easy to blend
natural finish
doesn’t feel heavy on the skin
nice packaging (pump is luv)
for super dry skin, no need to layer with finishing powder
long-lasting (but definitely not for 24 hours as they claimed to be)
Cons
doesn’t cover as well as it was claimed
offers narrow range of shades (only 4)
Do we recommend this foundation? If you have oily-combination skin like us and on a low budget, then yes.
***
~> CONCEALER ( Re-Touch Light-Reflecting Concealer )
Tumblr media
for radiant eyes and a fresh looking appearance with light & creamy texture as well as light-reflecting pigments
Targeting for eliminating them dark circles and brighten up the under eye, we’d say this also does its job quite well. However, we found it a little difficult to blend as it has a creamy texture.
Ours was in shade 005 / light nude and the price was IDR 63,5k (~$4,8)
Pros
doesn’t feel creasy (causing the fine-lines)
perfect for highlighting the features of the face
travel friendly packaging (stick tube makes it easy to carry everywhere)
Cons
its creamy texture takes more time to blend perfectly
~> POWDER ( Nude Illusion Loose Powder )
Tumblr media
transparent, loose powder which gives velvety & matte finish suitable for every skin type and tone
Nothing much to say about this product, it acts as a finishing powder like they’re supposed to. BUT! What we hate about it was they didn’t provide puffs which was a shame... Price IDR 88k (~$6,7)
Pros
does give a matte finish
fits oily & combination skin
Cons
doesn’t come with puff!!!! (wAt is this sorcery)
~> BLUSH ( Multi Matt Blush )
Tumblr media
for a unique and fresh look with 4-in-1 matt blush shades with light & soft texture
Apply this with brush for better application. We got ours in 010 / love, rosie! for IDR 63,5k (~$4,8)
Pros
pretty colors
suitable for natural look
travel friendly packaging (small & light)
Cons
low pigmentation
not suitable for dramatic look
~> CONTOUR & HIGHLIGHT ( Prime And Fine Professional Contouring Palette )
Tumblr media
professional set for shaping the contours of your face
Umm how do we start about this product..
...We DO NOT recommend this product at all! It doesn’t pick up properly on the brush nor finger, doesn’t transfer onto the face at all. Just.. no. And just in time to find out that this product was already discontinued but still sold in the store.. Yup. Bye IDR 72k (~$5,5)
In case you’re curious, this was in shade 010 / ashy radiance. I’ll still state the pros & cons tho:
Pros
suitable for natural look
travel friendly packaging (small & light)
^ a soft way in saying that they’re not pigmented at all
Cons
extremely low pigmented
the highlighter is not glowing at all
in conclusion, doesn’t worth the money even if it’s not that pricey (we understand why it is discontinued)
***
Done with the face makeup! In conclusion, they’re pretty good and affordable EXCEPT the contouring palette, could have gotten different and better one with the same/lower price (or we don’t mind paying a lil extra for nice stuffs)
And nope, this is not over yet as we still have eyes and lips parts to cover so scroll more for those!
EYES
~> Eyeshadow ( The Precious Copper Collection Eyeshadow Palette )
Tumblr media
eyeshadow palette with a powder texture consists of highly pigmented and long-lasting power with a matt contouring shade as well as a highlighting shade
One of my favorite step... applying them eyeshadow. First off pretty warm tone, shimmery copper colors. Honestly this palette’s our style! Really suit the natural look.
Have we mentioned how nice and pigmented this pallete is!
Tumblr media
This was in shade 010 / metallux ( IDR 85k / ~$6,5)
Pros
pretty shimmery colors
high pigmentation
quite long-lasting
wide range of bright and dark color options
Cons
cause fallouts while applying with brush
~> EYELINER ( Eyeliner Pen Waterproof )
Tumblr media
felt-tip pen with intensive black texture, fast-drying & longlasting
RECOMMENDED! Glides very smoothly, the tip isn’t shaky at all which is so good for such a noob at drawing eyeliner like me, luv luv luv it!!! Plus, it’s freaking waterproof so it doesn’t melt easily. In 010 / black waterproof (IDR 50k / ~$3,8)
Pros
very easy to apply because of the stiff tip & the ideal tip shape
can create any kind of eyeliner shape (the variety of the thickness)
perfect for beginner
waterproof
Cons
Honestly can’t find any flaw in this product, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!
~> EYEBROW ( Eye Brow Stylist )
Tumblr media
naturally accentuates the brows with powdery texture in creating a simple and accurate application
This one’s in darkest shade which was 040 / don’t let me brown’n (IDR 42 / ~$3,2)
Pros
high pigmentation
easy to apply
good for everyday usage
Cons
the brush is quite uncomfortable to use as it was rough
easily get smudged (when accidentally rubbed it or something)
***
Done with eye makeup! Oh wait, we actually forgot something. Yup, mascara! Well, we didn’t exactly forget to get one.. but we still have a lot in our vanity, which is why we decided not to add more as we’re afraid we won’t be able to finish them all in time or dried them up.
So as y’all probably have predicted which product we recommend the most... Definitely the eyeliner! As for the eyeshadow and eyebrow, they’re still okay to get as well.
Finally to the last step of our makeup... the lips! Let’s get to it~~~
LIPS
( Ombré Two Tone Lipstick )
Tumblr media
lipsticks with two colours each for an ombré finish, contains argan oil
If you want to achieve a moisturizing ombre look on your lips, then we’d say this is the product! But if you want something with more lasting power, this is a weak product for you. Has a total of 6 different shades (ours was 010 / rockabily rosewood) which costs IDR 75k / ~$5,7)
Pros
contains argan oil, which is good for moisturizing the lips
pretty colors
soft finish
Cons
doesn’t last for long (not a big deal tho, can always retouch after meals)
Finally we are reaching the end of this post... What I forgot to mention since the beginning was before we bought all the products, we didn’t rely on any single sampling because they didn’t provide samples. So our lesson here is, let’s not be afraid to try something new (pffft)
Hope you guys enjoy this long post and find this useful!
Ask me away here.

2019 Mid-Year Clean Out
This year I did the Konmari method of cleaning and have accumulated a small basket of items to dispose of. Items that were never used and were still good, I have given them away.
I will also be giving small descriptions of items that I have tried but did not work out, hence I’m disposing of it.
Make-up
Tumblr media
1. Annabelle Kohl Eyeliner 156 Rhone I got this a long time ago, maybe highschool, and have kept it because it was a fairly smooth eyeliner. But honestly I hardly wore eyeliner, plus this is now very old and is not as smooth.
2. Etude House Play 101 Pencil #6 I got this on my second trip to Korea, 2015, and when I wanted to use it again the whole thing just came out. From what I remember this was a very good liner, I mainly used it under my eyes and in the inner corner.
3. innisfree Always New Auto Liner I bought this on my most recent trip, September 2018, thinking that this would be good. I have gotten innisfree liners before but they weren’t that good. They felt very hard, but when I tested this one it was pretty good and very similar to the Etude House one. But once again it was a disappointment, when I got back and decided to try it I found that it was really hard. Also this liner has a twist cap and not one that just pops out.
4. the SAEM Cover Perfection Tip Concealer with SPF28/PA++ Shade 1.5 This is the best concealer so far. It’s inexpensive and a lot more affordable than the Cover FX that I use to get. I actually dont fit this shade that’s why this is in here. But I do have to say that Cover FX carries a wider range of shades. I do feel that the shade of Cover FX fits a bit better compared to the SAEM.
5. dear, klairs Creamy & Natural Fit Concealer I actually didn’t give this a good run. But from what I remember this didn’t quite fit my skin tone but when I swatched it on my wrist it fits perfectly. I do remember that the formulation of this was a little drying and the coverage wasnt that great. And if you try to build it, it makes the area unnatural. I might give this a go but it’s hard to give others an oppurtunity when the SAEM is so much cheaper and works. I’m disposing of this because it has been opened for a while now.
6. Cover FX Cream Concealer in G Light This is actually pretty old. I was going to swatch it but the formulation has already sperated. This was not the same as the stick format and I just didn’t like how it felt on my skin and how my concealed spots looked either. I just checked and they have now changed their concealers. They don’t even sell the stick one anymore only a dapper.
7. Geisha ink The Silk Mascara I received this in a subscription box and I really enjoyed using this. It has like small hair fibers that make your lashes seem fuller. It says it’s buildable but I don’t like having that much eye make-up hence I didn’t really try building it. But I really enjoyed using this, however it is expensive around $40 or more. I would not spend that amount since mascara tends to go bad fast plus I don’t use it often enough to justify that price.
8. The Face Shop Brow Lasting Powder & Pencil in 04 Dark Brown I bought this for my mom, I forgot who I saw using it or recommended it. I felt this was okay. It’s nice that it has a pencil and powder together, reminds me of a Benefit product.
9. The Face Shop Designing browcara in 02 Light Brown & 04 Brown I really liked using these and have different colors because my hair color has changed. These are fairly old, hence they are getting disposed. But these gave me a nice hint of color/ color change for my brows. It also helped make my brows stay in place.
10. A’PIEU Water in Tint in CR01 I bought a few tints to try but have discovered I’m not a tint type of gal. I definitely like using balms more. I don’t like lipsticks either because I find it heavy.
11.L’Oreal Color Infailible in 002 Hourglass Beige I believe this may have been the first eyeshadow that I ever purchased. I forgot who I saw on Youtube that recommended this line of eyeshadows and decided to grab one to try. This is still a very nice eyeshadow since it goes on so smooth and this shade can also act as a highlight too. However, it doesn’t really stay on unless you have a primer. This has been in my collection for a very long time and it’s time to let it go. Since I don’t reach for it plus it’s really old.
12. bareMinerals Prime Time foundation primer & Matte SPF15 Foundation in light W15 I can’t remember how I obtained this mini set, but it was from Sephora. This was my first foundation and foundation primer I have ever tried. I did like it when I first tried it and was going to repurchase when I finished the sample. But over time I discovered K-Beauty and started to lean towards that more, also because of cost. I was a student back then and didn’t have much income plus this was an item that I hardly used and was not part of my daily routine.
Tumblr media
13. Pupa Sonolone 3 Brown 14. L’Oreal Color Infallible 013 Burning Black 15. Etude House Drawing Eyebrow 03 16. Clinique colour surge eye shadow soft shimmer 06 Frosted Blossom 17. Clinique Blush & Bronzer Duo: Iced Lotus Blushing Blush Powder Blush & Sunkissed True Bronze Pressed Powder Bronzer
Samples
Tumblr media
18. Estee Lauder Pure Color Love Lipstick 19. The Face Shop Aura Color Control Cream 02 Natural Beige 20. Nature Republic Super Origin Complete Control Cream Tinted SPF30 PA++ 21. Skin79 Super+ BB Cream 22. Tony Moly Pure Aura Luminous Pure Aura CC Cream SPF30 PA++ 23. Lioele Beyond The Solution BB Cream 24. Etude House precious mineral BB Cream SPF30 PA++ 25. BRTC Aqua Rush Water Drop BB Cream 26. Skin79 Super+ BB Cream Gold Collection
Skincare
Tumblr media
27. The Body Shop Japanese Matcha Tea Pollution Clearing Mask This was okay wasn’t really what I thought it was going to be. I used up about half of it before giving up. It did tingle a bit on my skin when I used it.
28. dear, klairs Freshly Juiced Vitamin E Mask I really enjoyed using this in the beginnning until I started reusing it again and noticed that I kept on getting mini pimples, and decided to double check the ingredients in this. Lo and behold sodium hyaluaronic was one of the top 5 ingredients. Hence, I have to dispose of it because I am sensitive to that ingredient. The texture of this is very interesting it’s like a pudding and everytime you use it you would see a flat product as if you never touched it.
29. Huna Apothecary Skin Nutrition Balm I got this in a subscription box and really wanted to just finish it but couldn’t get around it. One the product is really hard to get out as it’s really hard and just rubbing my fingers on the surface doesn’t give enough for me to apply it. I also found it really oily to the point of it being greasy. Not something I fancy.
30. Avene High Protection Lotion SPF 50+ I got this in a set. I don’t think I ever tried this product but it has a scent which I don’t really like.
31. Avene Cicalfate Restorative Cream I thought this would be sort of like a healing cream to help fade some of my scars and also provide moisture for my legs. However, I couldn’t get past the scent of this. Honestly I wasted like $22 on the set which included the above product. The only thing that I did use in the set was the mineral spray which I finished a while back.
32. Thank You Farmer Sun Project Shimmer Sun Essence SPF 30 PA++ I’m not sure what is in this sun essence but I wasn’t a fan. I found it was a little oily and I didn’t like how it went on my skin. I have noticed I’m not a big fan of all over shimmer products. I just like the hints of shimmer on like the high points of my face/body.
33. Frienvita Peeling N Deadcell Sauna Godness Pad The pads couldn't even last the exfoliation process. It literally came apart after a few wipes. It also doesn't help that the rice granules were thick and didn't have enough liquid/solution to make it glide smoothly. In the end I just rubbed the rice bits on my face and used it without the pad.
WOW 33 items in total, it’s actually not that much but I still think that’s a lot. I did do an inventory of all my products and found that I have a lot of stuff that I need to use and go through. I actually had a lot more stuff that I was able to give away to people but I have definitely accumulated a lot of products and wasted a lot of money. This year I really wanted to focus on not purchasing as much and only buying when I need to. I use to be fairly good with my spending but I also feel like I’m spending in order to fill a void or to find something that would ‘spark joy’ in me. I feel like I’m living a mundane life right now.
I might do like a yearly round-up of my purchases, not sure yet. Honestly I didn’t think this through, because the photos I took so far aren’t that great and were for my reference only. It only occurred to me now that it might be nice to do a yearly round-up of my beauty purchases and maybe also put pricing down as well to see how much I spent.

Hey doll hey!!! Hope you are having a great day today. Today I will be reviewing the complexion products I purchased from the J Cat Beauty website. I do have to say that I’m low key obsessed with this eye look and I used glitter. GLITTER!!! Tati Westbrook knows what she is doing with eyeshadow!! So let’s get started with this Face of the Day, and also mini product review ….
Base: I primed my face using the J Cat Beauty Prime & Glow Face Illuminator Primer ($7.99 on their website) the Licorice formula. For foundation I am using the J Cat Beauty HD Perfection Skinsealer Foundation ($7.99 on sale for $5 on their website) in the color Warm Honey. I chose not to color correct today so i could test out the new concealer …. I concealed my under eyes using J Cat Beauty Staysurance Water-Sealed Zero-Smudge Concealer ($7.99 on their website) in the color Custard. I set my face using J Cat Beauty Aquasurance Compact Foundation ($13.99 on their website) in the color Natural. I warmed up my face using J cat Beauty Golden Soleil Baked Bronzer ($7.99 on their website) in the color Cancun Golden Tan. I then set my under eyes and baked my jaw line, center of my forehead, and bridge of my nose using RCMA No Color Powder ($15 on the Beautylish website).
Eyes: I primed my lids using Tarte Shape Tape ($27 at Ulta) in the color Light-Medium Honey. For today’s eye look I am using Tati Beauty Textured Neutrals Palette ($48 on her website). I set the Shape Tape using the color Aura-Matte (the cream row of colors). I then took the color Soothe-Matte (the tan row of colors) and used that as my crease and transition shade combined. I then took Soothe-Glitter on my mobile lid skipping the very inner part of the mobile lid. I used the color Soothe-Metallic on the inner part of the mobile lid and used Ritual-Matte (the dark brown row of colors) on just the outer 1/3 of the mobile lid over the glitter. I used Hikari Cream Pigment ($15 on their website) in the color Fair Tale (an icy white shimmer) to highlight the inner corners. For my brows I used Benefit Precisely My Brow Pencil ($24 at Ulta) in the color 4.5 and Benefit Gimme Brow ($24 at Ulta) in the color 6. I carved out my brow line using BH Studio Pro Brow Highlighter ($5 on their website) on the shimmer side and set the brow line using more of Aura-Matte. I lined the waterlines using ColourPop BFF Creme Gel Liner ($6 on their website) in the color Get Paid (a rose gold shimmer liner) and then used more of Smoothe-Matte on my lower lash line. For mascara today I am using Revolution’s The Mascara Revolution ($10 on their website) in the color Black.
Cheeks and Lips: My blush today is J Cat Beauty Blush-Mallow Soft Blusher ($4.99 on their website) in the color Tutti Fluffy (a bright pinkish coral). I used the J Cat Beauty You Glow Girl Baked Highlighter ($8.99 on their website) in the color Twilight (a mid-toned gold) to highlight the tops of my cheeks, bridge of my nose, center of my forehead, and Cupid’s Bow. I lined my lips using Loreal Infallible 6-HR Never Fail Lip liner ($8.99 at Ulta) in the color Coral and then filled in my lips with MAC Satin Lipstick ($19 at Ulta and MAC) in the color Brave (a mid-toned pinkish coral).
Final Thoughts:
J Cat Beauty Prime & Glow Face Illuminator Primer: A++                                                       You get 1.05 fluid ounces of product for $7.99. This is a pretty primer. It gives the skin a nice glow that has a pinkish shift to it. It felt very hydrating and created a great base that allowed my foundation to go on very smoothly. It also seemed to blur my pores.
J Cat Beauty HD Perfection Skinsealer Foundation: A+++!!!!                                                  You get .85 fluid ounces of product for $7.99, it is on sale on their website for $5. This foundation is billed as a flawless, full coverage foundation that gives the skin the most beautiful natural finish. It’s offered in 10 shades with 4 shades for deeper skin tones. This foundation is so freaking beautiful!!! It left my face so dewy and so fresh. The color was a tad bit darker than my skin tone but I loved the finish so much that I will finish the bottle up and then purchase the shade Sweet Buff (which is one shade lighter than Warm Honey). This foundation is definitely full coverage but when using a Beauty Blender it lays down more like a high medium coverage so I went in with a 1/2 pump more (I used a total of 2 1/2 pumps to get full coverage) and it built on itself nicely. I waited 7 minutes to see if it would oxidize and it did not. I seriously can’t tell you enough just how much I loved this foundation with just 1 application!!! It didn’t emphasize pores or fine lines, in fact it seemed to make my skin look perfected and flawless.
J Cat Beauty Staysurance Water-Sealed Zero-Smudge Concealer: A-                                    You get .33 ounces of product for $7.99. It’s billed as a light-weight, yet, long lasting concealer that combats dark circles, redness, and any imperfection for a flawless look that is waterproof and has a medium to full coverage. It comes in 16 shades with 6 shades for deeper skin tones. This is a thick concealer and is so pigmented that a little goes a very long way. It reminds me a bit of the Tarte Shape Tape, however it’s more hydrating than the Shape Tape. It isn’t as light-weight as their claims say, but that’s Ok because it leaves the under eye smooth and polished. I haven’t tested the waterproof claim but it does feel like it could be at least resistant to water. I will definitely be using this product up but am not sure if I will repurchase it… I want to test it in the Florida Summer heat.
J Cat Beauty Aquasurance Compact Foundation: A+++!!! You get .31 ounces of product for $13.99. It is billed as a finely milled luxurious, silky texture that minimizes the appearance of pores with medium to full coverage. It comes in 13 shades with 4 shades for deeper skin tones. This powder foundation is the first one that I have come across that is actually full coverage if you use the sponge… it is about high medium coverage with a fluffy powder brush. I don’t know how, but this powder actually blurs the pores! My skin looks flawless. I really, REALLY like this powder and have already purchased a back up.
J cat Beauty Golden Soleil Baked Bronzer: A+++!!!! You get .35 ounces of product for $7.99. It’s billed as a velvety SOLAR baked formula that wears all day and won’t transfer onto clothes. The smooth texture blends effortlessly with any powder brush for buildable, customizable coverage that wakes skin up and delivers a lit-from-within luminosity. The non-dusty and non-drying color stays true and even for hours without oxidizing. Lately I have been loving a glowy bronzer… this one takes the cake!!! It’s glowy without having shimmer to it like the other satin bronzers I own. It’s the perfect under tone and buffs into the skin so nicely that you can’t tell when the bronze begins and ends, it just leaves your skin looking sun kissed. I love this one so much I’ve already repurchased it.
ColourPop BFF Creme Gel Liner in the color Get Paid: A+++!!!                                                    You get .007 ounces of product for $6 however this color is on sale for $4.50 on their website right now. This color is so beautiful on the waterline! SO BEAUTIFUL!!!! It’s creamy and did not skip or tug at my skin. It stays pretty good on the waterlines too.
J Cat Beauty Blush-Mallow Soft Blusher: A++                                                                             You get .14 ounces of product for $4.99. It comes in 16 shades. This is a cream to powder formula. It reminds me of a matte version of ColourPop Super Shock Cheek. It is extremely pigmented! I used a duo fiber blush brush and tapped it into the product just slightly and still had to buff some of the product out. I really love the color I chose but do not see my self purchasing other colors.
J Cat Beauty You Glow Girl Baked Highlighter: A+++!!! You get .30 ounces of product for $8.99. It comes in 9 colors. It’s billed as a multi-dimensional Baked formula brings instant GLOW all day long due to high intense shimmer pigment. It is designed to complement all skin tones and all skin types. The smooth texture blends effortlessly and gives the perfect luminous finish that complete your look. There is no glitter in this highlighter and yet it’s so super reflective! I love the formula so much, it’s smooth and doesn’t go on patchy or chunky. A really good find!!
**** On a side note …. I tried the Tati Beauty glitter formula and I have got to say I am obsessed with it!! There was very little fallout with this glitter formula, it went on smoothly and opaque and super stunning!!! OH MY GOSH ….. I never thought I’d ever like glitter…. I do now….
Well that’s all for now dolls. I hope you enjoyed this look, I’m so in love with it! I hope the rest of your day is amazing and remember save a spoon for a bit of lipstick.
XOXO
Ethereal Eyed Face of the Day Hey doll hey!!! Hope you are having a great day today. Today I will be reviewing the complexion products I purchased from the J Cat Beauty website.

Makeup Empties: Foundations, Cushions, Primers, Eyeshadows, Lips and Blush!
We did skincare in the last empties post, so today we're doing makeup - and sunscreen! Usually it takes me longer to use up makeup than skincare (probably because there are more makeup products than skincare products under rotation at any one point in time, and I vary my makeup routine more than my skincare routine). So this is sort of an achievement!
Alright, let's start! Sunscreens! I've been using the Avene Very High Protection Spray SPF50+ Sunscreen for many years now, so this is not a surprise - you've seen it on my previous empties posts, multiple times. I've also been using other sunscreens, too. The Eucerin White Therapy Clinical Day Fluid SPF30 was also nice, and sort of a cross between a moisturizer and a sunscreen. I think that in warmer weather, you can also double this as a moisturizer, as it has a rather creamy texture. Also bearing a creamy texture is the Bioderma Photoderm Spot SPF50+ Cream, and I quite liked this - although it had a thicker texture, it does work blend out well under other makeup and when layered with other skincare.
I also finally emptied some of the Japanese sunscreens I've been having around. One of them is the Biore Skin Aqua Sarafit UV Mist SPF50+, which I quite liked as it was non-sticky and in a very convenient spray form. I would use this again - I do like that Biore sunscreens are cheap and work well (although most of them are better suited for day-to-day indoor use, rather than a hot day out at the beach). Also I used up not one, but two bottles of Hada Labo Air Aqua UV sunscreen, which are also a good choice for those wanting a lightweight daily proctection. There are actually two versions of the Air Aqua UV, a Fresh (for oily skin) version, and a Moist (for dry skin) version, but...I'm not sure which version I used, actually. This is also a good "daily indoor / non-sports-use" type of sunscreen.
Now for foundation and other base products! I actually used up a DiorSkin Forever and Ever Wear Primer, and...wow is that a Dior product on the blog? Yes it is, haha. I admit most of the very high end brands aren't a regular feature on the blog, just because they're so pricey. But I did have and use this, and I did find it really good! I paired it most often with my decidedly-not-as-high-end Etude House Real Powder BB Cushion, which I gave a good review for back in 2016 (yes, with the ye olde products). I liked this combination because it gave the skin a nice matte finish, good coverage, and held up well over the course of a day. I would definitely rebuy the Etude House cushion again - it's cheap, the shade match is good (not a 100% match but good enough to the point where it's not that noticeable), and it's a good product.
Also emptied is the Laneige BB Cushion Pore Control, which I also found to be a nice matte cushion with good lasting power, and also good coverage. I generally prefer matte cushions, rather than those with a dewy finish, just because my skin tends to be on the oilier side, and the weather here in Singapore is always hot and sweaty. So "dewy" often gets translated into "gross-and-oil-slick-y" over here. Lastly, I also actually used up a "proper" foundation, the Elizabeth Arden Flawless Finish Perfectly Nude Makeup, which I reviewed before and really liked, back in 2014(!!!!). Yes that product was ancient, but I just don't use my foundations as much as I do my cushions (which I do use up with regularity). Here's my useful tip for foundation application - all liquid or cream foundation goes on well if you use a cushion applicator puff to apply. I used to use fingers and brushes, but they've all gotten replaced by the humble BB cushion puff now.
And eyeshadows! There are various eyeshadows here, and they're all pretty old. I have used up my MAC Femme Fi eyeshadow, and if you don't recognize it, it's because it's the orange compact (so yes it is from the Neo Sci-Fi collection that launched...in 2008. Don't judge me, I just have too many eyeshadows, okay?). Despite the eyeshadow being quite aged, it still worked well and didn't spoil or anything! Much impressed with MAC here. There's also a Mememe Eyeshadow in Cafe, which is now discontinued, which is a pity since it was the nicest taupe shade around. You can see it swatched here, alongside a number of other taupes from my collection. It's swatched together in that post with the L'Oreal HIP Eyeshadow Duo in Electrified, which was quite the cult product back in the day when it was launched, and for very good reason too - it was such a gorgeously pigmented taupe. As you can see I only used the taupe shade I liked, and decided to call it a day when it was used up. I barely even touched the purple shade, haha.
Also other old old eyeshadows I've used up are some Wet n Wild eyeshadow (no idea what the shade name was, but it was a yellow vanilla shade), an Etude House eyeshadow (beige), a Milani eyeshadow (in a vanilla shade), and a Smashbox Eyeshadow Trio in...Centerstage I think? Anyway all these are all repackaged and/or discontinued now, so you don't need to know the product names. But suffice to say they were all variants of beige/vanilla shades.
This is the "miscellaneous" photo, consisting of highlighters, concealer, and eyeliner. The discontinued Prescriptives Anywear Makeup Stick was a (very tiny-sized) stick foundation, that I basically used as concealer instead (you can see it in some of my FOTDs). The Smashbox Softlights in Smashing Shimmer was a peach blush, with the most pretty subtle shimmer ever (in contrast to today's bling-bling highlight trends, subtle highlights were the rage when I bought this product eons ago). I also used up my Etude House Play 101 Stick in Shade 31, which I swatched in this instagram post from 2014:
Isn't that the prettiest taupe ever??? I used it as an eyeshadow. It was nice but it does eventually dry up (although at a slower rate than some other pencils), so I suggest you don't put this in a drawer and forget about it for a few months - it might harden when you remember it!
I also used up my Urban Decay 24/7 Eyeliner in Bourbon, which is a lovely brown. I really do love the Urban Decay eyeliners, they work very well on me.
Lastly, lip products! Out of all the makeup, I think lip products are one of the products I use up the fastest. I used up a Korres Lipstick in Natural Purple, which I think has been discontinued, sadly(!), as well as the Stila Lipglaze in Grape, which was a bright but wearable plummy pink. I also used up the Etude House Dead a Darling Neon Tint in Shade 3, which colour-wise is pretty much a dupe for another Etude House lip tint I really liked and have reviewed on the blog, the Etude House Color Pop Lip Tint in #08 Berry Pop. I guess it's a good thing brands sometimes recycle their colours - I would definitely buy this shade no matter the packaging, lol.
I also consider the Jordana Lipglaze in Watermelon Shine to be an empty, although it's not quite done, just because I'm not feeling the colour anymore, and this has been around for a loooong time. But at least I tried, right? I also used up a Maybeline Lipstick in Yummy Plummy, which I've also reviewed on the blog a long time ago. I also used up an old Urban Decay Lipstick in shade...5150 I think(?) which is also discontinued now. Not discontinued is the Kate Rouge EX Lipstick in RS-10, which was a lovely plummy rose shade (if you've seen my IG stories you might have seen this on there). As you can kind of guess, I love my plums and roses, haha.
So that's it for my massive empties post! And now I get to throw all these out and start all over again, and come back with another pile in a few months' time, in true beauty junkie fashion!

Trinny London Makeup: The All-Cream Dream Team
Thank the lord: something completely new and interesting and potentially life-changing in the world of makeup. Actually not that new, because the Trinny London range has been out for a while now (always late to the party, me) but definitely very interesting and I’m not exaggerating about the life-changing part. At least for those of you who don’t use makeup brushes and like to swoosh everything on, finger-painting style, with minimum fuss.
The Trinny London range has been designed specifically to be applied with fingertips, so all of the products are cream-based. Which makes total sense. If you’ve ever tried to blend out overdone powder eyeshadow with your fingertips then you’ll know what I mean. Cream products melt slightly with the heat from your fingers which makes them the perfect consistency for blending – they then set nicely, if they’re well formulated, and have the freshest, loveliest finish.
And these are well-formulated. Everything from the foundation to the cream eyeshadow feels luxurious, highly-pigmented and easy to work with and the finishes have that lovely sheeny, sheer quality that so many cream products lack. It’s grown-up makeup for people who just want to add a hint of a flush here, a little coverage there – it’s not glitter-laden lip-glosses and stencil-on brows.
The shades, too, are really sophisticated and neutral. As you search through the website it can all feel quite repetitive – three or four eyeshadows with similar tones, a blush that looks the same as a bronzer that looks the same as a lip balm – but it’s these small variations that are the genius of the whole affair. It means that you can find the shades that exactly flatter your skin and hair tone – and that you get the right consistency to perform well on whatever part of your face you’re using it. A cream eyeshadow has different demands put on it than a cream lip colour, for example – both are creams, but the texture needs to stand up to use.
So anyway, all positive here; I love a cream shadow, I adore a cream blush, lipsticks are cream anyway whether they’re stuck into a tube or kept in a little jar. The fact that the entire range is cream-formulated pleases me; it’s something a bit brave and new. Brave because it won’t be for everyone (lots of people can’t stand applying makeup without brushes, some balk at the fingers-in-pots aspect) but for those who do like to swipe things on without a mirror, in the dark, in the back of a cab, it’s a one-stop-shop.
The portability of these products is also a bit of a boon; easy to slip into hand luggage or handbag, the pots push together to form stacks (though I do think this makes it difficult to instantly find what you need to find) and everything is really lightweight. I think it would be great if the shades and products types were written on the sides of the pots so that you could identify things whilst they were still stacked (the names at the moment are on the bottom) but apart from that, it’s a great concept.
My best buys? The cream eyeshadows and the cream blush and – surprisingly – the foundation/concealer, which is called Just a Touch. It’s just about heavy enough to knock back dark circles, if you build it up a bit, but has the distinct advantage of being light enough to blend outwards with fingertips to form a rudimentary, “just where you need it” sort of base.
(Links marked * are affiliate links, products are press samples unless otherwise stated. For more info see disclaimer below post)
Here I’m wearing the foundation as a concealer (I was doing some test pictures with the new Dior Forever foundation before this, so I must declare the fact I’m wearing a full-coverage base to start with!), two different Eye-to-Eye shadows (Wisdom and Electra ), a cream bronzer and the cream blush in Electra*. I also used the blush as a top coat to my lips and it had a lovely milkshakey quality to it that pleased me greatly. It’s slightly too matte for a lip thing (there is a dual-purpose lip and cheek tint if you want to cover both bases) but I like to have a play about.
The cream blush lasted all day, the shadows did immensely well and I actually applied powder shadow over the top for a night out, so that the cream shadows formed a kind of base. It worked rather well! The only thing I find quite difficult to work with fingertips is cream bronzer – I just struggle with placement and the sheer area that needs covering for it to give that beautiful, overall-sunkissed effect. But maybe I’m a div – plenty of people get on marvellously with cream bronze.
You can find the Trinny London range online here* – I also spent a glorious (and hilarious) hour with Trinny Woodall herself in the back of her Trinny Taxi last year. And someone filmed it. If you’d like to watch that (includes a four minute makeup challenge) then you can do so here.

Before you sit to read this blog post for whatever reason you’ve decide to, may I make a humble recommendation? Brew yourself a holiday blend coffee and add a little bit of pumpkin pie spice into the grounds. You’ll thank me later. You’ll also note that I labeled this post “beauty edition.” I’m also going to write a more general post about food and life, people and such. Stay tuned.
There have always been things in my life that I wish I could like better– like This American Life or bubble tea– but for some reason I just end up feeling “meh” about them. I feel like I could live without them, but then when I hear other people rave about them and squeal “Oh, I love bubble tea so much! Let’s all go get bubble tea” I wonder if I could integrate this into my life on the regular. Really, I want to bond with people over these thing. But somewhere deep inside, I know that I will just never listen to This American Life and those tapioca bubbles feel like guppies swimming around my mouth. Sorry.
But I digress, this blog for the large part is about beauty and for the small part about the gross number of coffee shops I visit. So here are a few beauty products that I wish I liked more. I don’t hate them, I just don’t understand why they are so popular. So I lined them up to look vaguely like the movie poster for Empire Records (something else I wish I liked better).
In the words of Bianca Stratford from 10 Things I Hate About You “I know you can be underwhelmed and I know you can be overwhelmed… but can you ever just be ‘whelmed’”? Yes, the following makeup and skincare products are just whelming me.
Glossier Skin Tint
*shaking head side to side like a disappointed parent* Glossier, glossier, glossier… what am I going to do with you? That’s what I think whenever I see this skin tint waving at me from my makeup drawer. I want to love her, but I feel like she’s just a limp handshake waiting to happen. I’ve tried to make this skin tint work so many ways on so many days. I used a brush: fail. I used my hands: fail. I tried two layers: not much of a difference. I could mix it with another product but then, I’m just putting a band-aid on it.
Could someone please tell me how to use this or how to like this? Because she was not cheap. On another level, I wish I liked everything from Glossier because my name is Grace and having a big “G” stamped on all my makeup and skincare feels very personal.
To me, this skin tint is the makeup equivalent of a the Emperor’s New Clothes. Do you see it? Do you? It’s fashion– but it’s just not there.
RMS Beauty Eye Polish in Magnetic and RMS Living Luminizer MultEYEtasker
I was so excited to get this Eye Polish because I like one-swipe eyeshadows. I just love something that I can dig my finger into in the morning, swipe on my eyes, add mascara, call it a look, and be out the door to work. But this shadow makes me look like I got punched. It is so greasy and creasey, and perhaps it’s just the shade that I picked up or the batch or the fact that my eyelids have more oil than the Saudi’s, but she’s just not working for me.
The color “Magnetic” is suuuuch a pretty purple/brown/greige when I swatch it on the back of my hand. Maybe I’ll try putting it on top of a powder primer? Or set it with a powder? But again,  is that just a band-aid?
On the other hand, I have nothing good to say about this little Living Luminizer stick. Maybe because it’s winter and this texture needs to be warmed up with finger that this doesn’t work for me. But, frankly, someone didn’t think this product through. Living Luminizer is one of RMS’s earliest, most foundational products in pot form. In fact, I still have the one I picked up four or five years ago from ABC Carpet and Home.
IN FACT when ABC in Union Square started stocking RMS, Rose Marie Swift used to stop by often and just hang out there. I had many a lovely conversation with her about life and organics and coconut oil. I felt her enthusiasm for this product. So it really is a damn shame that this stick is a let down, but at the same time, it makes a lot of sense for the formulation. If you have to warm it up with your fingers, then applying it in a teeny tiny stick directly onto your eye would surely make it break and crumble.
Enough said. I recommend the UnCover Up and the blush un Demure. And the OG Living Luminizer. Just, apply everything with warm finger tips.
Briogeo Scalp Revival charcoal + tea tree scalp treatment
For a product with such good reviews and such a lofty $32 price tag for an ounce of product, I really wish I noticed more of a difference with this. I want to like her. She was supposed to be my gateway drug to Briogeo so I could justify spending money on the scalp scrubbing shampoo. But geez, what a letdown. It’s such a thin, watery formula that it feels like it’s doing nothing to help my scalp.
First off, I had high hopes because I love charcoal and tea tree. I use tea tree oil on my skin, hair, cuts, etc. I also use it to add to home made cleaning products. It’s so good for you and it’s antibacterial– even if one whiff will have you saying “That’s the power of Pine Sol, baby!” Charcoal is also ideal for detoxing skin and whitening teeth. Love it.
But, and I tried to take a picture of this for you, all of the charcoal and good goods stick to the bottom of this bottle. I shake and shake, but they don’t budge.
Just, don’t bother. There’s not even enough for you to evenly coat your scalp. I felt like I was counting the pennies as I emptied pipet after pipet onto sections of my scalp. I’m going to finish this, but I just wish I liked it better…
4. Weleda Skin Food
This will likely be my most controversial pick of the bunch. I see soooo many people who rave about this. Trust me, I want to be on that bandwagon more than Jonathan Van Ness wants to get his hands on a beard. Women on Into the Gloss are always saying wild things about this like “I use it on my hair, nails, face, elbows, knees, I EVEN USED IT TO GREASE MY BIRTH CANAL AND I HAD A NO PAIN PREGNANCY.” Ok, so maybe not the last one, but I know that it blew up after Katie Jane Hughes started using it on her face as a primer.
But I have oily skin and Weleda Skin Food is Thiccc. I mean, just look at the dollops that I put in the photo. It’s too hard to spread all over my body and it’s far too sticky for me to want to do that. I do like it for cracked and split lips because it’s very soothing (heads up, it tastes gross). I do like it for my elbows and knees as well, but if ever anyone could be “just whelmed”… I mean, she’s ok.
5. Physicians Formula The Healthy Lip Velvet Liquid Lipstick
Dear Physicians Formula,
Have you ever heard of the word “brevity?” Because that’s a long-ass name, friends.
Love,
Grace
Actually these lipsticks are beautiful colors and they wear beautifully on the lips. This shade in particular, Tu-Lip Treatment is a gorgeous poppy, tulip spring red. It feels comfortable and stains nicely, but I rarely use it. …. it smells gross. For a product that’s going to be right under my sniffer, please make it a neutral smell. This smells synthetic and perfume-y. This is also my qualm with Maybelline lipsticks. Makeup brands should follow suit with M.A.C. and Kosas (the M.A.C. of green beauty), vanilla is a safe smell.
6. isoi Pore Tightening Tonic Essence
I wanted a toner. I wanted an essence. What I got: a glorifed rosewater spray that might have made me break out? I can’t say for sure. I bought this at Whole Foods. It’s in a gorgeous glass bottle and at $22, it’s one of the cheapest items in this all-natural Korean skin care brand’s line. I can’t find a good link for you to buy this online, but it carries some heavy claims.
“Pore tightening” and “sebum controlling” are just a few of the promises that the isoi website offers. I didn’t experience either. I’d rather just buy Heritage Store Rosewater and transfer it to this gorgeous, frosted-glass bottle. I’m guessing the bottle is where my dollars went, anyway.
7. Essence Volume Stylist 18hr Lash Extension Mascara
Panda.
Panda. PaNdA. PANDA. PANDA. I got broads in Atlanta. Twistin’ dope, lean, and the Fanta.
… yeah this mascara gives me panda eyes. I really want to like it because the brush is really good but I think I’d need a waterproof formula. I’ll likely give this to a friend or my sister.
xx
Grace

Shrimp’s Autumn Project Pan!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I was watching YouTube again (dangerous!) and saw this whole ‘project pan’ thing, and figured, why the hell not? I tend to buy makeup, and have it sitting there for gods know how long, because I’m ‘afraid’ to use it out. If we were talking e.g. limited edition packaging/products or something, it would make sense, but it’s literally like... drugstore makeup for the most part?
So since the goal is to use things out before they go bad, here it is! Note, I’m not stupid/crazy enough to attempt to pan out all of these palettes at once! Instead, I’m grabbing a couple shades per palette! Also, some of these are duplicates/similar to others, mainly because I’m including some ‘easy finishes’ in here! Half of this stuff is from high school e.e. This thing is set to run til the first day of winter (December 21, 2018), and I’ll theoretically be checking in every week or so.
(Side note - while most makeup has a ‘expiration’ sticker e.g. 12m, 6m, etc. on it, I’ve been told before that if it’s something that hasn’t been used/used much, it’s more flexible. Plus, I tend to consider it ‘expired’ if it smells funny, dries up, or changes texture or color, mainly because while the expiration time frames are a good indicator of what’s going on, I HAVE had things go off WAY before they should’ve in the past.)
First picture, top to bottom, left to right
Rimmel eyebrow palette - hit pan - nothing wrong with it, I’ve just had it for a while and haven’t used it as much, because I tend to go for pencil eyebrow products!
Softlips Vanilla Cube - Use out - I’ve had this since like junior year of high school. There’s nothing wrong with it, I actually do like it, but I have like 200 other chapsticks. I buy lip balm frequently, because I always lose them. And without fail, the lost one returns within a few days of bringing a new one home...
ELF Gel Eyeliner - Make progress - This one is kind of... Underwhelming? IDK, it’s not as intense as their black gel eyeliner, which I love. So my goal on this one is to make progress, and ideally use it out sooner or later.
ELF ‘Beast’ - make progress - I’ve had this thing since high school, and it’s started to dry up a bit. I never really used it, mainly because I loved it too much and it was a limited edition product!
Colourpop Nooning - hit pan - Had this for a while, but haven’t really used much. Really should though, because it’s a pretty color!
Urban Decay Half Baked - use out - This shade had been used out almost all the way, so I broke it up with a toothpick and repressed it.
Urban Decay Sellout - use out - Had a ton of pan showing, I repressed it so I could use it without scrubbing my brushes too hard.
Urban Decay Twice Baked - use out - See above
Urban Decay Midnight Cowboy Rides Again - hit pan - This one broke from my dropping the palette, so I ‘fixed’ it.
ELF ‘Belle’ - make progress - Have had this since high school, and really should get around to using it, since I effectively never did.
Colourpop ‘Amaze’ - use out - I basically forgot I had this one LOL
ELF ‘Brownie Points’ - make progress - I swear that I lost this one, and only found it again recently when I was cleaning. Oops.
Colourpop ‘Brady’ - hit pan - A pretty color, but I just don’t give it enough love!
Second Picture left to right
Victoria’s Secret ‘Scandalous’ Mini Perfume - use out - a semi-easy finish. Love it, but have WAY too many partially used mini perfumes everywhere
Tarte Mini Lipgloss - use out - I have no idea what the name of this one is, because the label’s worn clean away. I do know I’ve had this for years, so it needs to be gone! It also has a weird minty thing I’m not a huge fan of...
Wet n Wild Setting Spray - use out - Green line is how far down it is. I just never use setting spray.
PUR Primer - use out - something I’ve had almost 2 years. Not particularly impressed with it for the price, so I won’t repurchase. Too far gone to feel ‘good’ giving away (I hate giving away half gone stuff, it feels rude) but too full to toss.
Wet n Wild Foundation - use out - Green line is where I’m at! I actually do like this, but have a couple ‘spares’, and this is my summer color, so may as well get through it while i have a tan...
Third Picture, top to bottom
Wet n Wild eyebrow pencil - use out - almost gone, but an ‘easy finish’. Nothing’s really wrong with this one though.
Wet n Wild eyeliner (flesh) - make progress - This has been here for WAY too long. Need I say more?
Jordana lipliner - use out - almost gone. Needs to be gone, I’ve had this since freshman year highschool.
Wet n Wild eyeliner (black) - use out - Nothing wrong with it, but I have too many black eyeliners!
Jordana blush - hit pan - have had this since high school as well. It fell and broke, so I repressed it.
Wet n Wild Bronzer - make progress - I used it, hit pan, accidentally broke it, repressed it, hit pan again. I’ve had it for a long time, so would like to see the end of it. Won’t happen this time, but at least seeing a lot of pan in the middle would be nice!
Fourth picture, left to right
Anastacia Beverly Hills Fawn - use out - contour color mini stick, but in the wrong shade.
Urban Decay Under Cover Concealer - use out - This has been open for a while, and I have a spare. Needs to be gone.
Milani Eyeliner - make progress -  I’ve really never used it. Really should though.
Urban Decay Lipstick - Use out - I’ve used this, but just inconsistently. Would like to use it more.
Milani Black Cherry - Make progress - I have too many dark red lipsticks.
Fifth Picture, top to bottom, left to right
Cargo Aurora - hit pan - have had this since high school.
Cargo Finland - hit pan - see above
Cargo Arctic - hit pan - see above
Cargo Greenland - hit pan - see above
Wet n Wild Brulee - hit pan - Actually a fave, but have a spare, sooo...
Wet n Wild Nutty - hit pan - has been lurking too long!
Random Brown Eyeshadow - use out - IDEK where this came from, or what it is.
Pink lipstick - use out - again, no clue what it is, or where it came from!
Random plum eyeshadow - make progress - ideally less than half showing!
Sixth picture, top to bottom, left to right
NYC Quad Purple - wear away design - Have had for 5+ yrs
NYC Quad Plum - wear away design - See above
Wet n Wild Palette Definer Shade (bottom) - hit pan - It’s pretty, but I never use it!
Wet n Wild Palette Crease (bottom) - hit pan - See above
Physician’s Formula Blush - hit pan- I use this as a highlighter. It’s nice, and smells wonderful, but it’s also old AF.
MAC eyeshadows - make progress on - These 4 I never use. IDK why. Ideally would like to see dips in them by the time I’m done!
Seventh Picture - left to right
`Lime Crime Rustic - make progress - Pretty, but unused!
Lime Crime Saddle - make progress - see above
Makeup Forever mini mascara - use out - this has been here forever!
Eighth Picture - left to right
Covergirl lip gloss - make progress - I forgot I had this
Palladio Blush stick - use out - I don’t give this half as much attention as I should.
Colourpop Dopey - use out - Green line shows progress
Nyx Lipstick - I have too many bright reds!
Ninth Picture L to R, top to bottom
ABH Raw Sienna - Make progress - I rarely to never use this shade :(
ABH Burnt Orange - make progress - see above
Hard Candy Shade 4 - hit pan - see above
Hard Candy Shade 6 - hit pan - see above
Hard Candy Shade 7 - hit pan - see above
Semi-Rules for myself
If it’s something that I’ve said make progress on, it MUST stay until the end!
If it’s something that I’ve given a definite goal on, such as see a dip, wear away a pattern, or hit pan, I’m allowed to remove it once it hits that point if it annoys me too much to continue!
Anything that doesn’t hit its goal this time will get rolled into my ‘Winter Project Pan’ (If I have one!)
