Garbagefest is Food Not Bombs DC's annual benefit show, a celebration of punk, community, and the dumpster. Food Not Bombs DC is a mutual aid group which serves the encampments in downtown Washington, DC on a weekly basis since its founding in 2013. We take food which would otherwise go to waste, prepare it, and share it, to provide delicious vegan meals at these encampments. Food Not Bombs stands for eliminating hunger, by ending the use of physical force which allows hunger to persist. Globally, Food Not Bombs chapters exist all over the world as a decentralized network.

The Mostly Dead Debuting in 2008, The Mostly Dead have worked with luminaries including J. Robbins, Brian McTernan, and Mike Schleibaum, and they have toured throughout the country, including an appearance at SXSW, playing with such bands as Gallows, Defeater, Flatfoot 56, The Business, and Underdog. They have released numerous albums and EPs, which have been described as “musically intense soirees featuring mostly punk tinged up-tempo tracks that meld into dark-tinted metal” and “fast paced and hard hitting...characterized by loud guitars, pounding drums, and angst filled vocals."

Cecil and Delilah are six friends making harmony laden folk-rock and dreaming of eco-socialism. Trumpet blasts and shouts disrupt quiet melodies as the band gulps for air and cries out for hope.

Gabbo is the solo project of nonbinary DC resident and outsider pop creative Gab Franks. Known for recording music as a teen under the moniker Frankie Goes on a Walk, and as part of Baltimore lunar rock band Moon By Moon, Gabbo’s multi-genre discography experiments with elements of pop, folk and emo. Their debut full-length is set to release in early 2023, and combines acoustic folk stylings with a psychedelic/electronic mixing approach, describing it “like if 'Love is Overtaking Me' by Arthur Russell and 'Tomboy' by Panda Bear had a baby.”

The world is an objectively different place than it was 20 yrs ago. Why are you all saying the same things (except, again, stupider) that I said when I was 20 yrs old? Maybe it's b/c your political identity is being shaped by forces that exist beyond current political reality?

I volunteered for the Nader campaign in 2000, when I was too young to vote. I thought being subjected to "lesser of two evils" discourse in 2016 would constitute my necessary penance, but boy oh boy was I wrong. Now we're at "Maybe Bin Laden had a point."

I saw a viral tweet the other day about how "it's all about the oil" and I think I had a brain bleed. Let me please wave my cane at you and say, "It's very rarely actually just about the oil NEXT."

If you doubt the veracity of this existential torture, allow me to present you with evidence. Here is an email I wrote in 2003, 20 years ago, when I was 19 years old, in which I rant about Democrats & capitalism:

The only thing that's "new" about any of this is social media. Twitter acts as a distillery for the worst aspects of our human minds. This stupidity has always existed, but algorithms purify & strengthen it, making everyone a bit more drunk. We must tune it out as best we can.

When I was 17, my brother got arrested in the Battle For Seattle. I dropped out of high school & joined him in a Bellingham anarchist commune. I did FoodNotBombs. I protested both wars. I got food poisoning from some dumpster yams. You will not out-leftist me, you little weirdos.

Today we got a late start at the BedStuy Food Not Bombs community food share in Von King Park after the @communitysolidarity van suffered some weather related damage en route. Despite the delay, hundreds of boxes of vegetarian groceries by Community Solidarity were handed out. Thanks to @greenehillfoodcoop @perelandrabk for consistently contributing food. We appreciate you! Also vegan meals prepared lovingly by @feedthepeople_bedstuy were shared with our community. Please support and make contributions to @communitysolidarity. They bring the bulk of the food we have each week and not only that, but they organize five other food shares per week in Long Island! They are an official 501c3 nonprofit so get your workplace and others to make donations as well!
