So anyway you repeatedly say we only feel corn husks and similar inedible parts to cattle but Never add a source to back it up. Having worked on farms I’m afraid for the most part the feeds I’ve seen have been parts entirely edible to humans. And like fuck man 5% of all grown soy is fed to humans or however the stat goes, do you really think the remaining 95% is inedible? really?
Anyway yeah I’m asking for a source here cause I don’t want to add this on to months old post
Ingredients such as “grain by-products” are referring to the husks, stalks, and other “green” parts of the plant that we humans don’t actually have the digestive capabilities to eat. The breakdown of most livestock feeds looks like the above when you actually take a look at it.
Different cattle feed, similar ingredients. Still primarily things that, and I have to stress this, you cannot eat. This one is slightly higher in quality and does indeed have actual grain products included. Some of those are edible to humans. Some are not. Generally cattle are fed cattle cubes with supplemental mineral licks and hay. Some also supplement with whole corn, but I can gladly assure you that corn is not in short supply and even if all the corn sold to animal feed was donated to the poor, you can’t actually live off of corn because there’s very little nutrition in it. Hence why in both human and animal food it’s typically seen as a filler ingredient. Keeps the mouth busy with a meal without making your stomach feel full and you end up eating more without feeling satisfied.
Soybeans are really only often used in feed for pigs because they’re a great source of protein for these animals. I would state that soy is also a terrible option to use as an emergency food for humans in need because while, yes, it is indeed a healthy bean, it’s also one of the top eight foods that humans are frequently allergic or intolerant towards. I’d also ask you for whether your 5% of all grown soy statistic is referring to the beans or the entire plant because yeah the beans are the edible part. The rest of the plant isn't especially healthy for humans to eat. I would say the beans are around 5% of a mature soy plant sure.

i feel like i dont see people talking enough about composting. like we had the big push to get rid of plastic straws but where's the big push for composting. hell they even give out compostable straws now a lot of places. but wheres the COMPOSTING!! there should be compost bins on every corner. there should be free composting provided by every city. how can you expect me to watch an ad where people are scraping food waste into the trash when they could be composting. you guys are throwing away your food?? in the TRASH??? why aren't we on this

A fun fact I learned in the the last two years is that tomato greens are edible in moderation! There are a few other nightshade species that also have edible leaves (in moderation and/or with proper processing) as well, which is wild because before this I thought that nightshades were all toxic outside of the fruits.
That said, I’m still v scared every time I nibble at a tomato leaf. :P
That said: Don’t try and eat nightshade greens unless you can positively identify them and 2) you know for sure the process for making them edible so you don’t get poisoned.

I think this is the first time in like 4 years where I haven't been either looking for housing in a panic or looking for a job in a panic. It's nice.

Thought I’d get over it, but I didn’t
(Heads up- this is basically a rant about chicken nuggets)
So Morning Star changed their plant-based chicken nuggets recipe, right? No big deal. Except that this particular brand and style of nugget (I have since learned) was a very popular safe food for autistic and sensory sensitive kids and adults- myself included.
Why is this an issue? The general consensus among consumers that have been buying this product in the past do not like the change. And not in a “we don’t like change” kind of way, either (though, of course, there is some of that too)- but like a “it’s bad” kind of way
And what does Morning Star do in response to this reaction for their consumers? Nothing.
Well, not nothing, exactly.
They pad all the negative reviews that start flooding in with positive reviews from promotions and product giveaways.
It actually pisses me off so much the amount of money they are willing to waste on collecting promotion testimonials from consumers that will likely never purchase the product, on top of their past consumers they are essentially throwing away by not being receptive to their feedback. This cannot be the best long-term growth strategy for the company, it just can’t. Because I tell you this- I will never be buying from Morning Star again.
And, sure, I may sound like a tantrum-throwing toddler. But I’m okay with that- because if they’re so willing to abandon me, then I’m more than happy to do the same goddamn thing to them.

i'm glad i decided to try out a ketosis diet again (aka changing my metabolism to basically only use ketone bodies made from fatty acids for energy by reducing carb intake to max 20g/day) for a few weeks because it was a neat experiment but i'm also glad I decided to stop because now i get to enjoy life's greatest fucking simplest yet finest delicacy: mashed potatoes/sweet potatoes with melted butter and salt. i cannot understand how i could live without that. just. vegetables. keto has opened my eyes to new ways to cook foods and experiment with ingredients but i don't think i can live without carbs. i doubt that the majority of people could. also have you any idea how much good simple near-zero effort food there is out there like holy gosh darn in heaven. i don't have to spend hours cooking something to have a nice meal

i kind of want to try a bit of meat to see if its something im intrested in but im not sure if like. having something small and average like a chicken nugget would be better to give me a better idea of what it usually is or something that i know is up to my ethical standards like local and ethcially caught seafood that i’d probably enjoy more and wouldnt make me feel super guilty but wouldnt rlly be a good indicator of the average meat experience

emmanuel loves fruit-bearing trees. he thinks it's just delightful the way they extend into public space with the promise of free food for the taking, for anyone who needs. he adores long colonnades with apple trees same as he adores one forgotten date palm in an oasis. what's more, he has so much appreciation even for the smaller berry bushes, for vegetables hiding underground. they are all a gift. and he is especially happy to see humans accept it ever so nonchalantly while going along the trajectories of their regular lives
