when i first learnt of the wish I thought that gabriel would eventually get it and use it to bring back his love only to loose adrian as payment, making a sort of bad timeline where ladybugs (and mabye gabriels wife's) objective is to reverse the wish or something

So like.

I think one of the issues with ML is that, as presented, Gabriel was always going to somehow win.

It might be a situation where he ends up dying, or he is revealed and arrested, or Emilie is revived and immediately files for divorce, or who knows what. But there's no way they were going to let Emilie stay dead. Even if Gabriel was 100% defeated by LB and CN, the second they find out why he's doing what he's doing they're gonna use the Wish to save Emilie. He is going to get what he wants, no matter the cost to himself.

And, on the surface, I don't.... inherently mind this if it's done well. But the best ways I can see it working are either

1.) Make it so that they use something other than the Wish. Maybe the Guardians had some healing magic for exactly this purpose. Maybe There's Other Magic Out There and something else brings her back.

2.) Do a proper version of self-sacrifice that starts the cycle over again. Gabriel loved Emilie so much he'd die to save her? Turns out Emilie is just as unhinged and becomes the new Hawkmoth to switch things back.

3.) Divert this entirely by having Emilie be 100% dead and not in some Magic Coma, and have the narrative lean hard into FMA territory on how you can't bring back the dead and you have to keep moving forward and your remaining loved ones can help but you also gotta make the effort yourself.

his name is sion lee. thirty-five year of age. a professor of metallurgy at verum academy. if not caught teaching, he can usually be found in his own office buried nose-deep in a book about metallurgy or the human anatomy, or in the lab jotting down calculations upon the already full chalkboard. if you still can’t find him by the time the clock strikes 5 pm, try again tomorrow because he had already headed home to his husband and daughters. joined verum as a part of the faculty five years ago despite having never studied there, though he claims to have been taught by a former professor during his time in the military. strangely enough he avoids anything relating to weaponry and would rather utilize his skills for communal purposes like engineering. do not ask about his past (he’s terrible at lying and will instantly freeze up), though rumors say he used to be a part of a squad that underwent special training to become the military’s most efficient weaponry producer and killing machine after losing his entire family to the war in his childhood. upon first glance might seem standoffish due to his quiet and intimidating exterior, but is actually helpful if you ask. always looks deep in thought which could either mean two things; too many ideas going in his head at once or he’s simply recalling something from the past—either way go ahead and snap him out of it. can be quite blunt but only because he thinks holding back on things might cause problems later. always jumps to the worst case scenario so he won’t ever be taken by surprise, and will not hesitate to state it out loud even if it means lowering the morale of the group. also fiercely protective of those he considers as “his”. the type that will not rest until he’s satisfied with his own work.
