Bio: Born in the 80's somewhere in France and then grew up, have been in over 25 countries and try to get off the beaten track to bring back stunning, exotic, rare photography shot from remote place, mountain, diving, portrait, cityscape.
SR:When did you move to Shanghai?
F:January 2010, been there for more than 5 years now
SR:How does living in Shanghai influence your photography career?
F:I started to shoot cityscape 3 years ago before that I was doing travel photography mostly then I got attracted by the light and building curve.
SR:At what age you started getting interested in photography? How so?
F:I started around 21 years old but the change came at 23 when I first came to China and bought my first DSLR.
SR:Where do you get your inspiration? How do you describe your photography style/artistic statement?
F:Except Shanghai Cityscape, my inspiration came by relation with people around Asia. I’m calling myself a travel photographer, my roots are in France and I feel like I’m travelling for 5 years.
SR:Who is your favorite photographer?
F:Steve Mccurry is my favorite photographer for travel shot.
SR:What’s the most memorable experience you have had as a photographer in Shanghai?
F:When I get access to the Shanghai Tower, being at 600m in the edge of that tower. Legs were shaking and I took that amazing shot, a 180-degree view of the skyline, a bird eye view.
SR:Can you give us your top three Shanghai's photogenic spots/hidden spots?
F:Nine dragons interchange; Shanghai tower and Suzhou Creek are my favorite places to shoot. I won’t give access to hidden spots; you have to explore the city to find your own best view.
SR:What's the state of photography business in Shanghai?
F:I do it as part time job. It’s more a hobby and it helps me pay my gear and flight ticket. I’m working in industry so it helps to get creative and avoid stress.
SR:Do you have any professional tips for amateur photographers?
F:Share your work, participate to exhibition or mini-event it’s always inspiring.
SR:What’s your current project about?
F:Project Share, another book or mini series of 20 of my best shot which can be removed and to be placed in frame. Plus another full series of black night shot keeping cars trail.
SR:Do you ever plan on moving back to France? What’s your next destination?
F:I have no plan yet to go back France. Next destination will be Zhangjiajie next month then probably France and Qinghai.
Thank you Florian Delalée for sharing your story!
