Tbh S3 would have been interesting and better even if everything was the same except the secret base under Starcourt was American. Like scoops troop still picks up a Russian transmission and translate it, but they get down there, and it's Americans. The code was in Russian as another layer of description and to deflect responsibility. But it's still the American government fucking around with the Upside Down, capturing and torturing kids under a mall. Alexei is a Soviet defector working for the Americans. The big Terminator guy is just a silent American hitman. It's all still a government conspiracy.

By season 4 Steve knows who he is. He knows what he likes and what he wants. I really don’t think he’s full of angst and hiding secret interests, pretending to be someone he’s not. He’s moved past shallow highschool assumptions and cliques. He likes sports and talking shit with his best friend. He wants to find someone he can make a future with, not just have sex without connection. Sure he’s 18 and still has growing to do, but he’s not searching for who he is or the opportunity to be himself. He’s confident about himself.

Funniest possible way for stranger things season 5 to have another character come out isn’t byler or whatever it would be Steve and Robin and Vickie packing up a moving truck and Steve saying “hey, once we’re in the city I betcha it’ll be easier for me to find a better man to kiss than Tommy fucking Hagan. And then I’ll have double the chances to find The One.” And both Robin and Vickie going “yeah hopefully you get better taste in men though lol” before driving off into the sunset to live their best lives together. Steddie au where Eddie's band hits it big and while he establishes that he is very private with his life but every now and then he slips some info about his long term partner. Reading a fic with Steve in it nowadays is wild like it’s a grab bag of are you normal about people who like sports or is this revenge fantasy for you being unpopular in highschool? Did you pay attention to his characterization in canon or are you going off fanon. Is he actually just a guy to you or do you resent he is a fan favourite? Do you understand why he acted in the way he did in season four or do you make it one sided because Nancy reciprocating gets in the way of your ship. And of course: Why is this dark fic not tagged correctly.

If anyone has any good post season 4 fics that focus on jancy talking/arguing about all their failed communication and Jonathan’s lies and Nancy flirting with Steve, I would love to read them. I’ve looked but can’t seem to find any that scratch that itch for me and am wondering if they even exist? I think a lot of fics brush past their unresolved season 4 problems and want to see them addressing their issues and either working through them or breaking up because of them. Whether or not jancy stay together at the end doesn’t really matter to me. (I don’t mind bittersweet endings and think there’s lots of potential for jancy to have one)
