Chris Pine is shocked Patty Jenkins‘ “Wonder Woman” franchise is dead. The actor recently spoke to Business Insider while promoting his feature directorial debut “Poolman” and said he’s struggling to understand how Warner Bros. could pull the plug on a franchise that grossed the studio nearly $1 billion at the worldwide box office.
“I’m stunned that they said no to a billion-dollar franchise and decided to pivot elsewhere,” Pine said. “I don’t know what the reasoning was behind that; it’s above my pay grade, but Wonder Woman is an incredible character; Patty is such a thoughtful director.”
Pine starred as Steve Trevor opposite Gal Gadot‘s “Wonder Woman” in two Warner Bros. comic book tentpoles directed by Jenkins: 2017’s “Wonder Woman” and 2022’s “Wonder Woman 1984.” The director was developing a third movie for Gadot’s superhero when DC Studios brought in James Gunn and Peter Safran as its new leaders. The duo are creating a new DC Universe and Gadot’s Wonder Woman is not a part of it.
In his interview with Business Insider, Pine said that he doubted he would’ve returning for “Wonder Woman 3” had it been made as his character is “dead” and “gonzo,” adding, “It would be ridiculous to try to bring me back.” He also remembered originally being skeptical of the role of Steve Trevor.
“I had no interest in playing the boyfriend, and it sounded like second fiddle,” Pine said. “Then, in talking to Patty, the way she described it was, ‘Forget the superhero of it all, this is a romance, this is ‘Casablanca,’ that’s the movie I want to make.’ I was like, oh, now that is very cool because when have you seen a superhero film that was a love story, ultimately? That had nothing to do with blowing shit up.”
Jenkins confirmed on the “Talking Pictures” podcast in March that her experience with “Wonder Woman” is over “for the time being, easily forever.”
“They aren’t interested in doing any ‘Wonder Woman’ for the time being,” Jenkins said. “It’s not an easy task, with what’s going on with DC. James Gunn and Peter Safran have to follow their own heart into their own plans. I don’t know what they are planning on doing or why, so I have sympathy for what a big job it is and they have to follow their heart and do what they’ve got planned.”
Jenkins had been developing a third “Wonder Woman” to star Gadot when news broke in December 2022 that their “Wonder Woman 3” had fallen apart after Warner Bros. leadership passed on Jenkins’ treatment for the sequel. Jenkins publicly exited the project. The news hit shortly after James Gunn and Peter Safran took the reins of DC Studios, which led to speculation that Jenkins had rebuffed efforts to reshape “Wonder Woman 3” to fit into their DC Universe.
“I never walked away,” Jenkins shared in a post on Twitter at the time. “I was open to considering anything asked of me. It was my understanding there was nothing I could do to move anything forward at this time. DC is obviously buried in changes they are having to make, so I understand these decisions are difficult right now.”
Gunn and Safran’s new DC universe will launch with superheroes such as Superman, Batman and Supergirl, but Wonder Woman is not yet announced for the new franchise.

Since I am the foremost superhero movie lover around here, it’s time I once again looked at the polarizing films, poorly reviewed movies, and box office failures of the superhero movie genre!
1. The flaccid finale to Fox’s X-Men finale that tried to adapt the Dark Phoenix Saga yet again, to disappointing results in terms of critical reception.
2. The film that was pushed back and reshot so much the actors didn’t even think it would come out! Is this the final film the X-Men series deserved?
3. Dwayne Johnson’s attempt to change the hierarchy of power in the DC universe, in which he plays Shazam’s archenemy: the anti-heroic title character.
4. The latest superhero movie bomb, featuring tabloid magnet Ezra Miller and the return of Michael Keaton as Batman.
5. The Shazamily’s second outing and a bomb that rivaled Quantumania.
6. In 1984, Kara Zor-El soared onscreen… only to crash into obscurity.
7. Shaquille O’Neal brings the STEEL!
8. Christoper Reeves really wanted an anti-nuke Superman movie for his final ride in the red and blue tights. He got that, but is it any good? Sources say probably not.
9. Academy Award-Winning Actress Brie Larson stars in the MCU’s most polarizing film.
10. Ever wonder why it was so hard for female heroes to get movies? Here’s the answer.

Shitty Superhero Tournament Rules and Bracket
Finally, ¡the tournament is about to begin! The bracket will be posted under the cut, but first let’s get some clarifications and rules out of the way:
The movies here have been selected (with two exceptions*) based on their Rotten Tomatoes movie scores and do not reflect my opinion of their quality. The tournament will be divided into six rounds.
Each movie will come with a quick summary of some of its highlights (or lowlights, depending on your point of view) but feel free to create and submit your own propaganda.
You may vote in any way you want, rooting for whatever gives you the most entertainment in a train wreck sort of way, the movie that’s the most incompetently made, a film you feel is actually really good, or however you want to interpret what the winner of a Shitty Superhero Movie Tournament entails.
Personal attacks/bigoted comments and propaganda WILL NOT BE TOLERATED. If you are here looking for an excuse to be racist/sexist/homophobic/anti-semitic/body-shaming/a dick to people trying to collect a paycheck under the corporate grindstone, fuck off. Just because these movies may be shitty doesn’t mean you should be.
If I make a factual error, feel free to correct me on it. Reblogs are encourage, ofc.
¡Have fun and be kind to each other!

Supergirl Soars in Summer 2026!
Tumblr media
Okay DCU fans! Get ready for the Girl of Steel! "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow" is soaring into theaters on June 26th, 2026, marking the second film from the all-new DC Studios led by James Gunn and Peter Safran. Mark your calendars, because this ain't your typical Supergirl story! This summer blockbuster is based on the 2022 comic book series of the same name. The series is written by comics writer Tom King and brought to life by artist Bilquis Evely. We're trading in the bright tights and cheery persona for a more hard-edged Supergirl, played by the talented Milly Alcock, who stole hearts in "House of the Dragon." Supergirl's Road to Release So, what makes this Supergirl different? According to James Gunn himself, it all boils down to upbringing. Unlike Superman, who landed on Earth as a baby and was raised by loving parents, Supergirl's experience was a lot tougher. Imagine growing up on a harsh alien world, witnessing death and destruction around you. Yeah, that'll put a different spin on things. Gunn describes this Supergirl as "hardcore" and a far cry from the cheery hero we're used to seeing. This grittier take on the character is sure to be a breath of fresh air for comic book fans. And with Milly Alcock in the lead role, we can expect a powerful and nuanced performance. Alcock will actually appear in another DC project before taking flight as Supergirl on the big screen, so keep an eye out for that! This isn't the first time Supergirl has graced the silver screen. Back in 1984, Helen Slater donned the cape for a more classic portrayal of the character. While that film has a certain nostalgia factor, "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow" promises a bold new direction for the iconic heroine. This upcoming film marks the second project from the newly formed DC Studios. The first? A Superman movie directed by James Gunn himself, hitting theaters in July 2025. It's clear that Gunn and Safran have a vision for the DC Universe, and "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow" is a big part of that. So, are you ready for a Supergirl who's seen the dark side? This promises to be an epic adventure that will redefine the Girl of Steel for a whole new generation. Mark your calendars and get ready to soar alongside Supergirl in June 2026! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fxTfczQ-pGM Read the full article

For no real reason, I just went and looked up Faye Dunaway's IMDB page to see if she was actually still alive, and found, to my surprise, that she has been regularly working in low-rated straight-to-video-type films you and I have never seen for the entirety of the 21st century.
The last decent film she was in I've even heard of was The Rules of Attraction, 22 years ago, and even then it must have been a small role, because I don't remember her being in it. Then there was a cameo in the remake of The Thomas Crown Affair in 1999, and again in Don Juan DeMarco in 1994.
She was very good in Barfly (1987), and had a prominent, scene-stealing supporting part in Supergirl (1984), but you have to go back to Mommie Dearest (1981) to find a starring role anyone remembers.
This is really weird to see, when she is still so famous a name and a massively respected actress and yet hasn't done anything great in over 40 years. She was one of the biggest stars of the 1970s, with classics like Network, Chinatown (her best role), Bonnie & Clyde, Little Big Man, The Three Musketeers, The Champ, Eyes of Laura Mars, The Towering Inferno and the original Thomas Crown Affair, but then all this time since there's been just... nothing. Meanwhile, Meryl Streep's still going strong and as popular as ever.
It seems a terrible shame no great roles have come along for her in all those years, but even the rich and famous can live unlucky lives, and everyone's struggling with something. That's about all I can take away from this.

10 Brilliant Ways To use Poker Slot
Long before The CW’s Supergirl Tv show and Melissa Benoist earned favorable critiques from critics and fans alike, Columbia Pictures’ UK division introduced Superman’s Kryptonian cousin to the large display with 1984’s Supergirl, which was framed as a spin-off of the live-motion Superman collection starring Christopher Reeve. It’s laborious not to really feel unhealthy for the Incredible 4 (and especially their fans), as Marvel’s “First Family” has but to have a giant display screen adaptation worthy of their name. But whereas 2005’s Improbable Four and its 2007 sequel Rise of the Silver Surfer came close in some regards to doing the Fantastic 4 justice, the 2015 reboot was so dangerous that it makes these previous motion pictures look like genre-defining spectacles by comparison.
Whereas Supergirl holds the distinction of being the first superhero film to function a feminine character within the title function, that’s in regards to the film’s only redeeming quality, as it’s routinely brought up in discussions of the worst superhero films ever made. In this case, that development Fox was chasing was superhero motion pictures but the irony is that Daredevil was neither commercially or critically successful, so it was arduous to imagine that an unwell-suggested spin-off based mostly on a personality with even less name recognition was in some way going to set the box office on hearth. Supergirl’s cheesy dialogue and poor characterization are even more unlucky in retrospect when you consider how stacked the film’s cast is, with veterans similar to Faye Dunaway, Mia Farrow, and Peter O’Toole all showing in this clunker.
Critics Consensus: The consequences are cheesy and Supergirl’s vast-eyed, cheery heroine merely isn’t attention-grabbing to watch for an hour and a half. Straight arms of five cards are sometimes used as a remaining showdown, but poker is nearly all the time played in a extra advanced type to permit for additional strategy. All the pieces else is dealt face-up, in the middle of the table for everybody to "play off." Consequently, bluffing is harder and the sport holds more of a problem. rahasiaqq : Jennifer Garner inhabits her position with earnest gusto, however Elektra’s tone deaf script is too self-serious and bereft of clever dialogue to offer participating thrills.

Be NICE To Supergirl!!! 🦸‍♂️😂😆 #shorts #supergirl
These are the two goons that we found at the party and it's his mother-in-law they abducted in their Max and we found the film and we think we know who they are and we're trying to figure out where they are and to get information
Trump
I get what they're saying they put it together and I put it together no but wow this is interesting so they're messing with him because of stupid show movie and he remembers the movie now and I have to tell you and it's upsetting angering and it's not making me feel better but I think I will if I get some progress and I need to know who they are and where they are so he says to Google it to find out their names to find out their aliases anything she's seen them around here and it's good to know anything's there Max possibly
Ken
It's really strange as it was Western Massachusetts and they're all going out there and another odd thing people think it might be Trump in his son and they're looking at the movie and it looks like them and Trump showed up afterwards and in a different format then JC and he's telling people off and he got beat up badly. But he was beat up badly for a different reason and this is going on right now and the butt brain opened his mouth again
Thor Freya
Boy you stupid Trump why the hell do anything is going to tell everyone
Obviously they can figure it out or he can or everybody's watching you should mention anything you put a lot of effort into telling people this s*** and now we're going to have Ken on our case trying to find his actual wife and we're messing it up great
Dave
A friend here says it means that we know stuff about the spheres and a lot of other things like the programs that could be true he also mentions since the end of the line no one can tolerate us having that kind of clout and why would they that's how you say it and someone saying it and they're from our own clan there's been a problem for a while it's coming out and probably get beat up today it says of course you will here trying to get me tired to screw around me doing laundry and you're going to get beat to hell probably true so leave it like this I'm going to have to beat someone up and I'll probably be Dave and he'll probably shoot me
Trump
Duck duck goose a grandpa
Zues

Tom Cruise
It says it too it's right there in my life and it's happening every day and these bozos are doing it everyday you can see them doing it everyday and in the past they do it to someone and they threaten to do it to someone else and they try and do it to them and they lose the stuff yeah and lesser evil but to some people like me they need to go now
Ken
I need them out now too they're despicable they have all sorts of stuff on their breath they are disgusting idiots they need to leave their violation of all sorts of rules we have I want someone to write it up and send it in the rules are violating little candid humor in front of him no talking backwards on purpose in front of him no slave jokes informing him things that will get him hurt setting him up trying to steal from him all over and over and over and if we need to send it in and they're saying and send a daily report and it has it on there is this urgent to stop him and it's going on now if people are up and working to stop him and they're doing that ear wax thing and he has to do it but they're saying stuff so we're going to go after them and we mean it
Hera
We have a bead on the guy and we're going after him and he is getting hit quite often and his people get hit wherever he goes New Hampshire is a mess and they're starting a war again with these pseudo empire in New Hampshire and it's starting in they're starting to get up again in Georgia and they're fighting right now it's going to be a big battle really deploying a lot of troops they have a huge number going there and that's the warlock and they're from the East Coast I know you're from the Midwest and the upper Midwest and they do hear what's happening and they're coming to try and fix it and they see that it's a job and they're moving in they say there are a lot of people who oppose of doing it those people are moving out and they're moving out now the maximum course tried to use them as an excuse to launch a major attack the max caverns are now under assault and associated bunkers too it's a huge fight it's a big battle and it's going to go on for a while it just started about 30 minutes ago and it's becoming very big very fast and will not stop and until there's a picture they say
Thor Freya
I found out that it's related to the film The watchmen with several ties in Georgia and I looked at it and you can see them in the series it's who the people are that's important and the pseudo empire is not the forefront but they have many characters there and they are battling heavily and I believe my husband bja is not trying to run the program where my husband gets the firebird the max. Hey hey bja sees the idea and kind of gets it nothing else is working and we're fighting each other and he's sort of kind of starting to go along with it but my husband thinks something else might happen and it's Sandy Wong who will be executor thinking he might go to China with her and her people need protection that area is largely African-American and they get it and it's the beginning of a different phase but it's turned on by the max you want to ride to survive

Holiday Watch: Santa Claus - The Movie (1985)
Watched:  12/8/2023
Format:  Amazon
Viewing:  First
Director: Jeannot Szward
Even as a kid, when I saw the trailer for this movie and it looked a little suspicious to me. I don't know what it says that a kid pretty game for whatever looked at this and was like "nah", but I think that gut instinct was dead on.   I would have been 10 when this hit, so I wasn't really the audience, anyway - just old enough to not want to see "a kiddie movie", but it looked like schlock to me at that age, and I just had no interest.
Apparently neither did Planet Earth, because the movie made about $23 million against an estimated budget between $30 and 50 million.
Flash forward to 2023, and we put this one on and a whole bunch of things became clear immediately.
Santa Claus: The Movie (1985) was produced by the Salkinds, the same shady guys who put together the first three Superman films and Supergirl.  They have their name up there first and foremost, so you know this is an Alexander Salkind joint.  And if you know anything about the Salkinds you know that if you're ethically a little shaky, these are your guys.
They know how to capture star power, get amazing effects done and make a big, splashy movie.  They also have no concept of what makes a movie actually work, in favor of just hiring big name talent and hoping for the best.  After all, as far as they were concerned, this is what made Superman I and II work.  Not Richard Donner and Tom Mankiewicz pulling everything together, rewriting the script and making it a coherent movie after drafts from Mario Puzo and the David and Leslie Newman creative dream team.  And they know how to do it while lining their pockets and screwing everyone else.
Well, we have the Newman's back and writing, and boy howdy, is it ever the Newmans.  Unfunny jokes that they go back to over and over (and over), incredibly broad characters and a certain hokey "we're putting on a show" writing style.*  But they came by it honestly - David Newman was partially responsible for Broadway shows like It's a Bird, It's a Plane, It's Superman.  Which, if you've ever seen it (and I have) is a meandering mess of a show where they pursued every wrong instinct polite society had about how to deal with genre media.
The Salkinds also brought in director Jeannot Szward, who directed Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, which makes sense on paper!  He managed to make a classic out of a weird movie about a guy and his factory producing fun stuff for kids.  And they have a score by no less than Henry Mancini and a "hit" single at the end performed by Sheena Easton.**  And, of course, Dudley Moore is our star casting, alongside a blowing up John Lithgow, just off Footloose and a string of hits (I wrongly thought Blow Out was 1984, it's 1981).  Santa is played by The Big Lebowksi's David Huddleston, and Mrs. Claus by Judy Cornwell that only anglophiles will recognize.  Burgess Meredith pops up for no reason.
So, you can see the thinking.  We have all the elements: can't fail.  Worked for Superman.
And then they proceed to put forth a clearly wildly expensive, absolutely boring movie that takes a good hour to really get going.
Basically, we start with Mr. and Mrs. Claus as mere mortals who freeze to death on Christmas Eve, and are resurrected to go live with a cult.  They are treated well, but told "now you will deliver all of these toys we make" which Santa is kind of game for, I guess.  But he has little to no agency - he is literally pressed into service.
The factory, by the way, is an amazing set that makes the Fortress of Solitude look like a hack job.  It's a multi-tiered, all-wood environment with moving parts and covered in toys, elves and colorful detail.  In addition to the expansive environs of the film, the impeccable costuming, all of the effects are fairly top-tier for 1985.  Clearly the Salkinds knew to borrow the flying effects from Superman, perhaps made easier when you can put Santa in a sleigh instead of a harness, but it seems to be a pretty similar set-up.  There are also muppet reindeer that have personality and are part of the story.  And, plenty of optical effects.
Plotwise - it's unclear WHY the elves were already making toys or have this factory.  They say it feels good to give toys away, but they've never done it as far as I can tell.  After all, they have a warehouse full of them.  But they do have reindeer, magical flying powder (more on that later), and an agenda.  So, much as Superman has a lengthy opening sequence, including Krypton and Smallville sequences, as well as the Fortress stuff, this movie thinks Santa needs all that.
He does not.
We're a good hour into this movie before anything like a plot kicks in.  Which is not really how Superman works, but I can see how the mistake was made.  In Superman, you don't see Clark turn into Superman til way, way into the movie, but... plenty occurs with comedy and tragedy and plot tension in that first hour, but not here.  Santa just kind of bumblefucks his way into becoming the Santa we know, including spending *centuries* as the jolly gift-giver before looking at naughty children and  thinking "fuck them kids", taking away their gifts.  With no forewarning, by the way.
Our plot that eventually surfaces is when Santa (a) promotes his tinkerer pal, Patch (Moore) to be his assistant to help out as the world population explodes.  (b) Patch innovates with an assemblyline, which obviously makes worse toys than by-hand toys.  (c) Those toys suck and break.  (d) People decide the man giving them free toys is a loser after centuries of success.  (e)  John Lithgow plays Dan Aykroyd's character from SNL who sells very dangerous and defective toys.  (f)  Patch goes to work for him after getting demoted and thus leaving the North Pole. (g)  Patch puts cocaine
magic flying powder into lollipops and hooks kids on the "first one's free" scheme.  (h) Santa immediately wants to quit.
I haven't mentioned the two kids in the film, the very post 1970-streetsmart homeless kid with a bit of a NY accent and then the cherubic girl who lives in a mansion in Manhattan and feeds the homeless kid (successfully, and daily, because no one is paying attention to what this girl is doing).
Santa meets "Joe" on Christmas Eve and flies him around, but does nothing else for him.  I mean, Santa seems like he could have done *something* to help out this kid, but he just peaces out and is like "see you next year".  Santa, that kid is going to have moved on or be dead.  Meanwhile, turns out Cornelia's uncle is John Lithgow.
There are incredibly long scenes between Lithgow and Moore that feel like extended cuts of stuff the Salkinds thought worked between Luthor and Otis, but they forgot how Miss Tessmacher provided daffy balance.  Or didn't know.  But, my god, all of it just drags.
And that's the weird thing.  This movie is a full two hours because Act 1 takes an hour.  But when we get to Act 2, no one puts their foot on the gas.  The pacing is murder.
For all the sets (which are also weirdly and uniformly dark) and costuming and money thrown at this thing, and what feels like thought put into creating a lore for Santa, no one seems to have a feel for what kind of movie this is.  It's not funny despite featuring Dudley Moore, who often seems kind of sad.  It's not upbeat or quirky.  It kind of just keeps happening with sort of joke-shaped moments occurring.
And, most bizarre, the movie ends not on a December 24th, but in late March, on the recently deployed "Christmas 2", come up with by Lithgow's character to sell more cocaine
lollipops that allow kids to fly and which, it turns out, will explode violently if placed near a heat source.
The movie ends with Santa saving Dudley Moore and Joe, there's a pointless bit about missing two reindeer, and the last moment of the movie is Lithgow disappearing into space to die after ingesting too many lollipops as he runs from the cops.
Christmas.
Look, I've watched some real shit bombs this Christmas, and this one is not the worst, but it sure was trying.  And, most offensively, it was so expensive.  It's a testament to the two most essential things in a film really being a script you can work with and that goes somewhere, and an editor who can try to craft something coherent from whatever wobbling pile they're handed.
The casting of Dudley Moore, famous at this point for playing everyone's favorite raging alcoholic, was weird.  He was oriented to movies for grown-ups, and as a ten-year-old, I remember thinking "that's odd casting" even if I couldn't put my finger on why.  And he's not bad, but he just seems kind of depressed through the whole movie, which was a choice, I guess.  And aside from "Joe", the performances are mostly fine.  And Joe is fine.  He's just... doing the bit in the movie that folks decided had to be in movies for kids until Goonies.
If there's one note about the visuals, it's weird how old this looks and how much like a modern movie Scrooged looks, coming just a few years later.
For decades I'd been told "not worth it", and, by gum, those friends were just trying to help me.
Anyway, here's Sheena Easton's song.  Try to remember that Sheena Easton is very, very good looking before judging her too harshly.
youtube
*there's probably a fascinating career retrospective one could do about the Newmans, because they kind of Forrest Gumped their way through Hollywood as near as I can tell.
