A colleague from another department stopped by my office to chat. Paused when they saw the keffiyeh on my coat rack, “oh! You support Filasteen?!”. I replied, “yes, absolutely”. They were silent for a moment before continuing our conversation. Today I feel like a small change I made in my life—wearing my keffiyeh everyday instead of rotating my scarf collection—added a tiny bit of positive to the day of someone whose life feels heavy.

ٱلْحَمْدُ لِلَّٰهِ
Our tests? Our problems? The difficulties ? The whole lot? but just check on what the people of filasteen and gaza are going through on a daily basis. Nothing will ever be or be seen the same way again not even what we are going through. Not even half a fraction. Period.

(answering like that for length reasons)
Hi anon, I've been putting off editing my answer to this, typing, deleting, rewriting. I tried to post once and couldn't because of this annoying known as Tumblr app bugs. I apologize I'm so very late!
Firstly, all the love back from us Jews to you Persians and Iranians — we all hope you manage to ours the awful dictatorship of the Ayatollah. I didn't know Tumblr was accessible in Iran, i thought it was like china where internet is highly regulated, to the point where government institutions have VPN to post things on FB 😅.
Anyhow, I'll do my best to not digress.
I don't think it's right, by any means, to name-call another woman, especially ex-muslim, by comparing her to any of the ayatollahs, misogynistic men. I think there are things that are difficult to unlearn, especially when it's related to what was the Demon in the Middle East for a long time, and still is for westerners, who hold an extremely orientalistic view on the middle east, oversimplifying it and this also exists within the M.E. itself. The fact that this region has been under Islamic occupation for several centuries, (636-1917), with the begining of it being Arab rule (Rashidun, banu Umayyah, banu Abbas, Fatimids), and Turkic rule (with 1517-1917 being under the Ottoman Empire), it's hard to remember the last time Jews had their own sovereignty over their homeland, especially with many of them having been islamised in the first Islamic occupation. There is no argument that the land of Israel, Provincia Judaea, was arabized after the Muslims won against the Byzantine rule in the land, there is no argument that in its last decades before falling to Arab hands, it was referred to as Syria-Ceole/Syria-Palestina. There is nor argument that the Islamic occupation forces named part of this land Jund Filasteen. There is also no argument (not on my side), that Palestinians aren't native to this land. But when it's so ignorantly stated that "X is older than Israel, thus, Palestine", especially when X is a colonial coin, I always suspect it's not coming from historical knowledge, but from a personal opinion and an emotional reaction to whatever white lies the media spews.
I am not sure if the ayatollah is ignorant about violence against Israeli Jews, since Iranian government kinda funds part of it, but it is nice to entertain the thought of politically clueless ayatollahs, heads buried in holy bookd trying to come up with a new interpretation, ending up doing a caffeine fueled ijtihad sessions with their peers using Zoom. Maybe, one day.
I have immense appreciation for menalez, despite not agreeing on many things with her, because I'm a feminist before i am a matriot, and because her takes are usually quite immaculate, and her heart and her mind are in the right place.
