luis figo’s second return to the camp nou after his transfer from fc barcelona to real madrid (2002.)
prior to the game, figo had decided to return to taking corners and throw-ins for madrid, something he did not do on his first game back at the camp nou in 2000.
midway through the second half of the game, madrid won a corner and figo took it, taking two minutes to do so. madrid then won another corner on the opposite side of the pitch, so figo walked to take that one, picking up missiles thrown by barcelona fans all while smiling and showing them a ‘thumbs-up’ as he did so. however, every time he attempted to do his run up, a missile was thrown—including the infamous pig’s head—until referee luis medina cantalejo decided to suspend play for roughly 20 minutes. as a result, barcelona were originally forced to close the camp nou for two games, a punishment later reduced to a €4000 fine. the game ended 0-0.
