Yo, insert reader fics are so DIFFICULT to write because everyone is different and so when describing something physical is going to clash with someone. /g

Like, writing 'he ran his fingers through your hair' BUT WHAT IF THE READER HAS REALLY CURLY HAIR THAT GETS TANGLES EASILY LIKE MINE OR DOESN'T HAVE HAIR? Or even 'you blushed' BUT WHAT IF THE READER IS DARK-SKINNED? /lh

Don't even get me started on smuts where the dude just somehow has easy access and I'm just there like 'hehe, my thighs are to THICC to do any of that' RIP wall sex 😔 /lh

As a writer, I realise I make a lot of these mistakes myself since it's just INGRANED in me what to write or base my character off of even if I don't match the same background (e.g. religion, ethnicity, body type). /g

I don't think anyone can put it better than @/ficmedown and their podcast where they talk a lot about this when discussing self-insert fanfic.

...my point is, Y/N fanfics cannot be 'true Y/N fanfics' unless you wanna make your story really boring/confuzzling to read or are extremely talented. Goddamn paradox fics. /g

hence why i avoid describing anything physical like it's the goddamn mf plague.

Girll im hella late to the party 😭 I read ch 8 but work and life have been kicking my butt so i havent been able to send u an ask yet, but im here now to praise you and your wonderful writing as usual! 👏🏽👏🏽 U know that ive been with ego since the very beginning so im sad that its coming to an end but im also happy to have been along for the ride for this long~ this last chapter hurt but i know those two idiots will finally put everyone out of their misery and confess their heavily requited love 🙄 Oh and ive also been listening to your podcast and ive really enjoyed it so far!! Thank you guys for taking the time to call out many of the toxic behaviors that exist in the fandom and in fanfiction as well. i'm also really glad you're enjoying the podcast! we have a lot of fun making it and also hope some people might be able to understand our messages better through a different platform. there is a lot of toxic behavior that the fandom as a whole allows to occur, but maybe if people start by doing the work of unlearning their own latent prejudices, we can make progress overall. thanks again and hope you're doing well!! 💜
