It's the 21st! That means it's fic writer appreciation day!
In celebration, I'd like to share some SH recs, but in a fun way!!! I'll be posting the first and last line of the fic, along with name, author, and brief description as to why I'm rec-ing it!

This is a angsty, passionate story of hurt, comfort, love, and meeting an old love. The story is Modern AU where Sasuke's a model and comes back to visit his childhood town, where he meets Hinata. Honestly, this is the first and only fic that has made me actively cry, and I cannot praise it enough! Please check it out!!!

Okaeri by The Penumbra
She felt his fist connect with her stomach and went crashing down to the ground, barely having time to register what was happening.
"Okaeri, Sasuke. Welcome home."
This is sort of a prequel to the author's other fic "Snapshots: Black and White", which is also a stellar fic. It's set in canonverse, where Sasuke and Hinata slowly develop a friendship/relationship. You'll get your fair amount of angst, but really, you can hardly avoid such things in SH fics xD.

Ichinen by Cinderella Starsend
Hyuuga Hinata stifled a yawn as she stepped out of the door and shut it behind her.
"And I love you."
I LOVE this fic! It's split into 12 chapters, each corresponding with a month. Hinata works at Ichiraku's in an attempt to get closer to Naruto, but she bonds with Sasuke more. I really enjoy fics set in the narutoverse that change things like this, mixing around dynamics so it's not always ninja stuff and war and training. It's a cute story, and the author's prose is beautiful!

Neji Hyuuga: Matchmaker by emilyjm
Hyuuga Neji prided himself on seeing things other people never noticed.
Mission: matchmaker must be completed within five years.. Good luck, Neji!
UGHHHHH! Where do I start????? It's set in narutoverse where Neji's not only alive, but in charge of matchmaking everyone in Konoha so that he can get Sasuke and Hinata together. It's incredible sweet and incredibly moving and incredibly moving, and I love SH fics with a heavy focus on Neji. Please read it, and please read Another Story (sequel) which is JUST as good!!!

When Will I Lose You by @elreinodelpurgatorio
Hinata, Lady of the Underworld, stands in her peach orchard and watches the Doom God and the Messenger God speak to each other.
One of these days, Sasuke, seated on a throne next to Hinata, is the one to look at a wretched soul and say: "Request denied."
This is a really fun HadesxPersephone AU where Hinata is Hades and Sasuke is Persephone! It's a short, magical read that is always a breath of fresh air! The author is really good at coming up with pretty sentences. Highly rec!

This is a rewriting of The Last movie, but SasuHina style! I think it's very believable and a fun thing to read, since I've watched The Last quite a few times. Seeing things that should be Naruto but are instead replaced with Sasuke warm my little, shipper heart. Give this one a chance!

For as long as he could remember, the night had offered him comfort.
"Indeed," he whispered against her skin. His fingers found their way under her fishnet top, making her shiver under the touch. "The most beautiful night."
Sommer hits it out of the park once again! This was their 2022 SHMonth one-shot in which Sasuke and Hinata secretly meet each other when 'borrowing' meds at night. They grow close and confide in one another, and I think it's a loving, deep connection that is impressive to make in just one chapter!

Sasuke Uchiha, as it was well known, was in possession of some very, very gorgeous eyes.
She decided, however, that the regal Uchiha nose would always hold a special place in her heart.
Ahhhh, this is probably one of my all time favorite fics! It's fluffy, it's cute, it's funny! I absolutely adore it! This fic is set in a Modern AU, where Hinata is a waitress at a cafe and Sasuke, a member of the firefighter team that comes by almost daily, has a pretty obvious crush on her. These two dweebs are adorable, and I read this fic so much!!!

Arranged Marriage? Check. Fluff and Humor in a SH FIC of all things???? Check. Witty dialogue and amazing chemistry? Check check check! Without giving too many spoilers, this Modern AU fic follows Hinata and Sasuke, who plan to act 'over the top' in their arranged relationship in order to get out of it. Lets just say it doesn't work as planned for them huhu. This is a really fun fic, so if you're in the mood, give it a read!

Actually, scratch that—his first mistake was falling hopelessly in love with his best friend, but he’s not sure he could’ve prevented that one.
But the bar—that he could have avoided. And the first shot of tequila. And the second, and third, and fourth.
His seventh mistake was watching Eddie get hit-on by a dead ringer for Chris Evans.
His eighth—and arguably most egregious—mistake was talking to Chimney.
Or, Buck tells Chimney a secret. This proves to be a mistake.
possible the MOST fun I’ve ever had writing a fic. It has some of my favorite firefam interactions I’ve ever written! There is also an incredible podfic of this by @mistmarauder...is it embarrassing to say i laughed my ass off at it since it’s technically my own writing?? but just the energy and comedic timing she brings to it is INCREDIBLE.

He has a book in his lap, so it’s not like he’s just staring at Eddie, but—ok, so he hasn’t actually read a page in over twenty minutes, and in the meantime he has watched his best friend chop like six different kinds of vegetables to go in Bobby’s ragu.
“How’s it going, Buck?” Hen asks, flinging herself into the adjacent arm chair.
“Fine,” Buck says, barely looking at her. “But something’s up with Eddie.”
the dynamic between Buck & Eddie in this fic was SO fun to write...poor Buck just has NO idea what’s going on...

I am so so proud of this fic, perhaps BECAUSE it was so much more challenging to write than the rest on this list. But I absolutely adored getting to focus on Eddie’s relationships with everyone in his life, including Buck.

In honour of Fic Writer Appreciation Day I want to take a moment to say THANK you to every single person who writes fanfiction! You work tirelessly, many times for very little attention, and yet you keep putting your stuff out there for us to enjoy! As a mostly passive voice in the fandom I can't begin to thank you enough for sharing your words with us! You breathe life into the fandom experience and have given me countless hours of joy (and grief, pain, heartache - all part of the experience)!
I've given some specific recommendations already today as part of an ask game, but I'll also take this time to shout out some of the amazing writers I follow! You all give me life!

It’s such a long time coming and still it takes Buck by surprise. It takes him by surprise even though he is the one that leans in and finally kisses Eddie. His second surprise is that Eddie doesn’t push him away, doesn’t even look at him with confusion. Or worse, rage. No, Eddie kisses him back like Buck is a tall drink of water and Eddie is severely dehydrated. Buck knows the feeling.

Kind of exactly what it says on the tin?
A mix of this Tumblr prompt: Buddie platonic co-parenting to very slow burn to something more fic....? I think it’s an interesting dynamic for them to both be accepting platonic co-parents.... which they realized together through talking about it and then very slowly edge into other things without the pining/unrequited love concept... like they discuss things together and then they’re like “well yeah I guess we could try going one step further” bc they know no matter what they will always be friends
- and me yelling at @stellarm that I needed fic where Eddie wants Buck to be Christopher's legal guardian before they're even together.

Fic Writer Appreciation
Hello my friends I am appreciating you <3 I tend to be a bit... chatty, so some of these love letters appreciation posts are longer and some are shorter, but the level of love and appreciation I have for all of you is the same. <3
@rewritetheending : Morgan, you are such a friend to me. Not to get sappy, but I love every conversation that we have, whether it's about fandom or other things. I love you, thank you for sharing bits and pieces of your life and family with me. I cherish them greatly. You write Buck and Eddie with such a genuine honesty that I think is missing from a lot of fics. Which isn't to say other fics are bad AT ALL, but Buck and Eddie's openness and their ability to be open with each other is one of the things I value most about their dynamic and you consistently capture that. I know I mentioned it before, only a few days ago, but that fic (you know the one) was such a soul-twisting piece of honest writing. Thank you for writing it and sharing it.
@eddiediass : Dev, your writing makes me feel like I'm sitting on a therapist's couch being forced to reflect on my life. You and I have such complicated relationships with our emotions, but the depth of your capacity to not just feel but emote shines through in your writing. Writing is such an act of vulnerability and it's very raw and unnerving but you do it so well. I know you hated it but Buck Doesn't Cook Anymore is hands down my favorite of your fics. You see things in the canon narrative that other people don't see, ways and angles to view the characters and realities presented that completely turns the story on its head. I hope you always love what you write.
@hattalove : Kris, here's a fun fact, we were mutuals once upon a time back in 1D world! Silent mutuals, lol. I don't think we talked once but I remember distinctly when you followed me because I was thrilled that such a talented, brilliant writer even knew I existed. Every year, you wrote a massive fic for HL and Amaryllis and Got the Sunshine on my Shoulders are still some of my favorite 1D reads of all time. Your writing was so good and engaging and captivating then, but it's only gotten better over time. The way you write Eddie and Buck's dynamic, and the way you write Eddie specifically just brings me to my knees. You evoke such depths of emotion in me that I have to put off reading Tell Me About Despair until I'm emotionally ready to handle it. I think about the end scene of the light's been out though, baby, where Buck and Eddie are in the kitchen, at least once a month. The tenderness of it all unspools me like a skein of yarn. I think you are and will be an amazing author.
@kitkatpancakestack : K, I remain absolutely undone by everything you write. I can name several fics off the top of my head that I think about with an increasing frequency, starting with Leave Me Alone (I'm Renovating) and ending with How Beautifully We Fall. The day you started writing fic was the day the world changed for the better. I knew from the moment I read the summary of How Beautifully We Fall that that was going to be one of those fics that burrowed deep into my soul and remained like buried treasure until I thought about it again, and I was right. Reading that fic was such a beautiful, heart-wrenching, heartwarming, cinematic experience and I'm thankful every day that I got to read it. And for FREE!!! Your use of words amazes me constantly. YOU amaze me constantly. I'm glad you exist.
@henswilsons : Mia, I cannot tell you how many times I've reread everything's coming up millhouse by now. Awkward twitter star Eddie is such a delight. Your ability to capture love and joy and humor in your words is such a gift and I'm so thankful that your share your stories with us. mwah glad you exist
@extasiswings : Chapel, your fics were some of the first I ever read in this fandom and I distinctly remember thinking if any of the fics in this fandom are half as good as this one, this will be a fun fandom to read for. You are one of THE Buddie writers of all time. You throw so much heart and soul into every word and it is obvious, whether I'm reading angst (dream of some epiphany, my beloved) or the filthiest sub!Eddie smut. I love you lots, you're an amazing person to have in this fandom.
@hmslusitania : Hayley. *screams into hands* Hayley. I have so much to say about Leave the Light On. I read it over a year ago, by now, and I still have no idea how to arrange all my words in an order that tells you how much I loved everything about that fic. I have insomnia, and I started reading that fic sometime in the middle of the night thinking I'd just read a little bit and then fall asleep. Wrong. I stayed up until four consuming every word and maybe it's because I was sleepy and foggy, but the range of emotions that fic took me through was so visceral and beautiful. I will never forget it. You have such a gift with words. I did cry over mangoes. Thank you.
@letmetellyouaboutmyfeels : Mags (yes, I just nicknamed your nickname), I was so intimidated when you first messaged me lol. I was like, there's no way this awesome and cool and talented person wants to talk to ME and then after about five seconds of knowing you, I was like "ohhh okay. so she's a dork, got it." You are such a delight and I love talking to you all the time. You're empathetic, funny, enduringly sweet, and such a brilliant writer. You are the one of the only people I can come to and be like "hey what if Buck and Eddie had this specific type of nasty, dirty sex" and you're just like "*already typing* way ahead of you." I frequently reread your fics, even just to go over my favorite little snippets, but my favorite is still Your Fingerprints Smeared on My Heart (Lead Me Back to You). I know that fic put you through the paces for a minute there, but the payoff was so worth it. I absolutely adore it. The collision of past to present and Eddie getting shot in both timelines, and Buck's birthmark and their DREAMS of each other. Kill me. you're one of the best parts of this fandom and I adore you
I know for a fact I'm missing a lot of people, a lot of friends, and once I publish this, I know at least four people are going to come to mind. But know that even if I didn't tag you that I love you endlessly and that all the fics you've written have brought me nothing but joy. I am endlessly grateful for you all and I'm glad we all share the planet at the same time. Whatever it is that brought us all to this point where we write about these silly little fictional men for fun, I'm glad it happened.

I’m late!!
But I am still gonna play! Thank you @kelliealtogether for tagging me in the ‘five favourite fics that I've written (for writer appreciation day)’
This was the kindest thing you could have tagged me in, because as much as I love my fics when I post them, I tend to have a distorted view of them later on, thinking that my writing must have been so much worse, that I’m sure I fucked up the pacing, etc. But having now gone back and re-read a lot of these, I like them just as much - so much that choosing just 5 is gonna be hard!
1. Pan Cookies
Oldest first - and also because it’s the only Dragon Age fic I have and tbh I adore it. Short and sweet, Dorian and Sera deserve to bond over shitty parents - the end!

This is the story of how Sera and Dorian became crazy, drunken, selfie-olympics bffs. Enjoy.
2. Kisseltoe
This was a holiday exchange fic that I still think is really stinkin’ cute. Did it have to be this long, or complicated? No! But I thrive on turning simple plots into drawn out character studies.
Overwatch, Cole Cassidy/Hanzo Shimada
Trapped under the mistletoe, Cole has now kissed every person at this party but the one person he actually wants to.
3. Rita’s Blessing
First rule of thieving: Know what your mark wants.
The Penumbra Podcast, Juno Steel/Peter Nureyev
First rule of thieving: Do your own research.
First rule of thieving: Know what you, yourself, want.
What Peter Nureyev wants is to wake up next to Juno Steel every day for the rest of his life. He wants to travel the galaxy at his side, day after day, until death at last parts them. He wants so deeply and with such fervor it weighs on his heart like nothing else, save the ring, which stays always in one of his many pockets, feeling like a star attempting to collapse in on itself.
And that is the problem.
FOR INSTANCE. This was supposed to be a short and sweet exchange fic for a friend. It wasn’t supposed to take as long as it did (the better part of a year) but it did! And tbh - I love it a lot. I’m glad it took that long. I’m glad I met them. I’m glad I wrote this. I genuinely think it’s one of the best things I’ve ever written.
4. We often confuse what we wish for, with what is
“You just have to hope that betraying one another is not in their self-interests?” Juno misquotes back to him, dry.

“This is not the first partner, team, group or crew I have allied with,” Nureyev finally says, clipped and crisp. Weary and wary and just him in place of where Ransom would already be soliciting Buddy’s forgiveness. “And I’m sure you are all familiar with the...self serving nature of those in our line of work.”
He nods. “Quite. And once the job is complete, it’s not uncommon to look into the face of an ally and see an enemy instead."
Second FOR INSTANCE. This was a fic I never intended to write. As many of my fics start, this came from the want of using one particular line and having to figure out WHERE that line fit. Juno saying ‘oh you’re gonna want to think so carefully about what you say next,’ was living in my brain rent free and I had to find a home for it and so came forth this Murderbot-Leverage-esque story of Peter Nureyev, master thief.
...crap now I have to choose between Captive Prince and The Raven Cycle. Wait. No I don’t. Fuck it. I’m going rogue!
5. Attend Me
This is just fun, silly, modern day fluff. I like the world I made behind it, but mostly I just wanted to see how they fit together.
Captive Prince, Damen/Laurent
Housebound following an accident, Damen prepares an important dinner.
6. Here with You
The Raven Cycle/The Dreamer Trilogy, Ronan Lynch/Adam Parrish
When Adam received the invitation to Declan Lynch's wedding, he'd known that seeing Ronan again was going to be difficult.
This is one of those fics that has a huge, sprawling backstory that I have no willpower or time to fully write. However, I think this small snippit gives just enough of a look into what was and what could be and I really like it for that.

Fic Recs on this fine Fic Writer Appreciation Day!

After Eddie Diaz has a breakdown in the middle of a grocery store, he's forced to face the fact that he might not be dealing with his PTSD as well as he thought. At the urging of his aunt, he leaves to spend the summer in a small California beach town, where he meets a bright-eyed, blond-haired surf instructor who reminds him what it feels like to be alive.
(I don’t read a lot of fic, I especially don’t read a lot of WIPs, but I read the first chapter of this when it was originally posted and made an exception—and now of course it’s complete so it can be read all at once! If it made me cry—and I’m not saying it did—I was very indignant about it ❤️)

hi!! y’all probably don’t know me cause i don’t make enough posts in the 911 fandom, but im adrian, who’s been an enjoyer of the weewoo show(s) for a little over a year now, and have been reading fics even before i was watching the show. and during these past 14 months or so i’ve been reading fics for this fandom, i’ve found some true gems. here are some authors whose works that have really stuck with me, in no particular order.

if you are one of the authors i have listed here, from the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU. you have written something that touched me, made me laugh, smile, get emotional, (it takes a lot to get me to actually cry when it comes to pieces of media so just because i can’t say i cried doesn’t mean i didn’t get super emo though) feel inspired, motivated, moved, empowered, hopeful, or just an endless amount of happy and grateful. i am so immensely grateful for the incredible art you have shared with us. we as a fandom are so lucky to have your work at our disposal. i dream of writing fics like the ones y’all have done. you’re incredibly talented and i admire you more than you know. thank you again.

idk man on this fic writer appreciation day thingy i also want to take a second to just. appreciate the concept of fic, also. this is not an exhaustive list but fic has
made me a better writer for sure
enabled me to make friends i wouldn’t have otherwise
made me practice reading source texts more closely
allowed me to share my writing with people who are genuinely interested in it
given me a way to work through things
also just given me a way to indulge in things, bc (as @hattalove put it) as a lonely depressed queer adult sometimes you just want to write about other depressed queer adults getting to be a little less lonely
anyway. i’m sure that other people have other things too and i would love to hear them in reblogs if you want but if you don’t that’s okay too i’m just having feelings<3

my 5 favorite fics I’ve written (for fic writer appreciation day)

The Kingdom Lights Shine Just For Me and You
TK Strand is a Prince who has given up on true love after having his heart broken.
Carlos Reyes is a Knight who longs for true love but must put his family's needs first.
Carlos just won a jousting tournament hosted by TK's father.
The prize?
An arranged marriage with one Prince TK.
In Which Eddie Finds Out About the Flaming Car Driven By a Dog, and the 126 Find Out About Buck and Eddie
Buck is completely confused by why T.K. and Marjan would think he was hitting on them. Eddie is not happy to learn Buck was almost hit by a car on fire. Hen cannot stop laughing. Some important things are cleared up for the 126.
Pure fluff with some worried Eddie after the fact. Set right after T.K. tells Buck he has a pretty serious boyfriend during the crossover episode.
Let That Lonely Feeling Wash Away
After the fight with Eddie in the grocery store, Buck drops a glass jar and cuts his hand.
Buck's just too tired, thinks he's just too tiring, to do anything but buy some gauze and plan on bandaging himself up at home.
Buck's not really thinking about the blood thinners he's still on when the blood loss makes him collapse outside the store, right in front of Eddie
When You’re Lost and I’m Scared and You’re Turning Away
Set immediately following grocery store fight between Buck and Eddie.
The thoughts are shoving against the back of Buck’s knees, filling every muscle with ache, deep ache, the kind that never leaves, as Buck watches Eddie leave.
And so Buck doesn’t even flinch when there’s a press of metal against the back of his neck, because what does it matter anymore.
Until Eddie jumps in front of the bullet.
Good News On My TV Screen
That night, after Christopher was in bed, Eddie grabbed the remote and flipped on the TV. He found himself checking his watch, then flipping through channels until he found the call sign matching the one he had seen on the side of the camera that morning.
And there he was, the reporter from the accident. He was standing by the side of the road, a broken off bumper, shattered glass, punctured tires all littering the scene behind him, but not a single injured person or smashed car. "Our thoughts tonight are with all those affected by this tragedy, and with the brave first responders who help without hesitation," the man was saying. "I'm Evan Buckley, with Skywitness News 8. Back to you, Taylor."
Evan Buckley. Now Eddie had a name to match the face. And confirmation that the face was just as attractive as he remembered.
AU Buck/Eddie-Buck is a news reporter, Eddie is a firefighter, and they meet at the scene of an accident.

btw if you don't want to comment on fics because you don't know what to say just know that if you try and comment even if it's a short thing about one part of the fic or literally anything, you will actually get better at it. And you will actually start making mental notes while reading so you can write a nice comment, or even just scroll all the way down every time you want to say something and build an entire comment like that. The writers want to know what people think! ESPECIALLY if you enjoyed it!
