While reading up on a disorder related to endometriosis, I came across this and I just
Tumblr media
Man it's not even a meme anymore this is just how it is. Why is it that every uterus/ovary/hormone thing is some shit no one knows about. They always have broad estimates for who in the population has the condition, and they can't even say why it sometimes becomes apparent and sometimes doesn't. Or why it's a whole body issue messing with your quality life in some patients but just an annoyance when trying for a baby for others?

Possible start of Pelvic Inflammatory disease due to IUD.  Cervix described as inflamed
Basically, the damn thing was almost 7 and a half inches long and weighed almost FIVE POUNDS. My uterus weighed only 1/2 a pound... It also explains why my cycle only lasted one day tops, and was so heavy...

ER: here is a Rx for medroxyprogesterone
Me: *bursts into tears* this is what Im already taking
ER: no just take more tho
Me: *believing them for some stupid reason* ok
Pharmacist: no you're right this makes no sense, you're right you're not bleeding because your body doesn't think you're pregnant (ugh) it's the fibroid so this wont do anything, you need the tranexamic acid.

Staring back at doctors who say the symptoms are normal, bleeding through clothes in public, losing big chunks of time to pain, and living with undiagnosed conditions for years–these are experiences I know well. Are they familiar to you? These experiences are common for millions of people - some will endure life-altering complications because their conditions were not diagnosed quickly. Mental health suffers, relationships suffer, and they are left to battle against debilitating conditions while navigating misinformation and bias inside a stressed healthcare system. We saw a way to help.Carol Johnson from Uterinekind talks with Mark Alyn on this episode of Late Night Health.

Time to start your healing journey from fibroids! Uterine Fibroids are the most common benign (non-cancerous) tumors of the female reproductive system. These tumors grow both within and outside the wall of the uterus. Fibroids are made up of smooth, muscle cells and fibrous connective tissue. When they grow large enough to put pressure on the bladder or other nearby pelvic organs, they can an increase in urinary urgency, increase constipation, abdominal bloating, and intense pelvic pain. The symptoms depend on the size and location of the fibroids within the uterus and how close they are to various organs. Most common symptoms include: * Heavy, prolonged bleeding * Bleeding between periods * Pelvic pain and pressure – either constant, dull aches or shooting pains * Pain during intercourse if the fibroids are close to the cervix * Constipation * Abdominal bloating * Infertility, not able to conceive, or miscarriage * Anemia, causing fatigue * Frequent urination, difficulty emptying the bladder * Low back pain * Enlargement of the lower abdomen Different types of #fibroids include: * Submucosal fibroids: In this case, the fibroids are growing inside the uterine space (cavity) where a baby grows during pregnancy. Think of the growths extending down into the empty space in the middle of the uterus. * Intramural fibroids: These fibroids are embedded into the wall of the uterus itself. Picture the sides of the uterus like walls of a house. * Subserosal fibroids: These are the most common fibroids. They can push outside of the uterus into the pelvis. Subserosal fibroids can grow large at times and sometimes have a stalk that attaches to the uterus (pedunculated fibroid). * Pedunculated fibroids: The least common type, these fibroids are also located on the outside of the uterus. However, pedunculated fibroids are connected to the uterus with a thin stem. * Cervical fibroids: Cervical #fibroid develop on the cervix, which connects the uterus to the vagina. They’re also rare. #fibroidsawareness #fibroidawareness #fibroidsolution #womenshealth #reproductivehealth https://www.instagram.com/p/CnQX22yvNrC/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

What procedures are used to treat fibroids?
Fibroids are kind growths (not cancer) in the muscular wall of the uterus. These growths can be very tiny or as large as a cantaloupe.
Fibroids are very common. At least 20% of women 35 years of age or older have fibroids. Many women have them without knowing it.
Treatments for uterine fibroids include:
1. Medications that may reduce your estrogen level, which can help the fibroids to shrink slowly.  However these medications may have significant side effects, which limit how long they can be taken.
2. Uterine fibroid embolization (also called uterine artery embolization): During uterine fibroid embolization, the doctor injects tiny particles into the arteries that supply blood to the fibroids. These particles stop the blood flow to the fibroid. Over time, the fibroid will shrink. The procedure works even if you have several fibroids.
3. Myomectomy: During this procedure, your doctor surgically removes the fibroids from your uterus. The surgical tools are inserted in the body either through very small cuts in the abdomen, or through the vagina and cervix.  During myomectomy, the doctor usually cannot remove the smaller fibroids, which will continue to get bigger over time.
4. Hysterectomy:  This is a major surgery during which the uterus is completely removed.  There can be significant complications and side effects from hysterectomy that a patient must consider
