I noticed something in the new FF7 Rebirth trailer
Sephiroth reveals the nature of Jenova and her ability but why?
Sephiroth never even revealed Jenova like this in the OG as a part of his plan, so why is he doing this? Isn't revealing her nature the last thing Sephiroth wanted to do?
Here's what I think is happening, Sephiroth is being forced to work against Cloud. He traveled back in time, still tethered to Jenova, hoping to stop her and save the planet from whatever destiny it's tethered to (yet it also has consequences as we see in the alternative timeline)
Sephiroth is doing this of his own will
Yet he's still shackled to Jenova, so he needs Cloud's help in order to break free from her, but Jenova is taking advantage of Cloud's shattered mental state and false persona, so it's like a godly game of tug a war.
I think the Sephiroth who's manipulating Cloud and trying to convince him that Tifa isn't real is the past version of him from the OG, while the real Sephiroth, the one who we've been following all along, is trying to break free from destiny's grasp, stop Jenova and save the planet.
I could be wrong, and this is just a retelling of the OG, but I don't buy that one bit, especially when both the developers and part of the story say otherwise. Anyways, that's what I grabbed from this scene.

I just had the worst thought ever!
What if this is Zack and not Sephiroth? o_0
Tumblr media
It's just a crazy theory, not to be taken seriously. BUT! What if Jenova messes with Clouds mind, making him see things? While Zack did some matrix bs and got to the current timeline?
(I don't understand half the things that are happening in this remake)
Here Cloud attacks him and either Zack doesn't realize he's going to strike him or just let's him do it. Why? Idk man. Sephiroth just feels out of place and character here and if it was Zack that would make it so much more ✨tragic✨
I have it lot more detailed and layered in my head but I don't even know where this story is going at this point. Let's just hope I'm wrong 🥲👍
(EDIT : thank god I was wrong)

I'd like this theory to be true for FF7 Rebirth and FF7R Part 3
SPOLIER WARNING FOR THE END OF FF7 REBIRTH
Many fans are currently speculating that the Aerith Cloud interract with in the ending of Rebirth is nothing but a Jenova hallucination made up by his mind to not deal with the pain and trauma of Aerith's death. While I can believe that Cloud's memories about the death of Aerith that all his companions witnessed were tempered with by a combination of his trauma and Jenova cells, as it was the case with Zack's death, I don't believe that the Aerith we see alongside him and alongside the rest of our characters is just an invention of his mind. I'm sure it's either Aerith in Force Ghost mode who doesn't have the heart to tell Cloud the truth so that his mind remains relatively stable (the same mistake Tifa makes about the Zack subject) , or an Aerith present in an ephemeral world created by Cloud when he made the choice to save her, he is the only one who can interact with this world because he crossed the corridor of Gaia's reality and the ephemeral dream worlds in the river of life. And I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one to have these thoughts, as shown in the comment below from yet another video analyzing and explaining the ending of FF7 Rebirth :
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Remember the rift we see in the sky during the ending ? Many consider Cloud's mind to be broken at the end of chapter 14, but maybe the Word is what was broken during the final bosses.
Tumblr media
Or rather the world of Prime Gaïa is now cracked, cracked by the fusion of dream worlds within the lifestream, a fusion caused by Sephiroth, one which is not supposed to happen because the ephemeral worlds are supposed to reinvigorate Gaia, and not modify its main reality, a fusion at the origin of the cries of the planet that Cloud heard.
The problem is indeed now that what Cloud can see and hear, things that are real but on another level of reality, things that the others characters cannot see nor hear (unless they are part Cetra like Marlene is implied/theorised to be).
Being different is what made things complicated for a young Aerith to make friends with kids in the slums during her childhood, because she could perceive things the others couldn't. And now I'm afraid that Cloud being able to perceive what his companion cannot is gonna slowly isolate him from them, and you bet that Sephiroth is gonna jump on the opportunity to further torment Cloud and get him to become the hollow puppet he wants him to be.

omg, a fellow chadley truther (definition: someone who believes chadley was AT THE VERY LEAST modeled on child sephiroth)! if pre-nibelheim sephiroth met chadley, what would their relationship be like? would seph immediately assume that big brother role or would it take time?
Sephiroth + Chadley
YES Chadley is best boy! Also, here's the long-winded answer you didn't ask for but I'm giving you anyway because I have a lot of feelings.
Imagine this: The bastard who had you as a lab rat throughout your childhood continues to hold power over you both as your biological father and the scientist the company who owns employs you entrusts your personal care to.
Now you see him create a sentient cyborg and model it after your childhood self, then reduce it to a personal assistant. It's a loyal puppet created to serve the afformentioned slimy bastard. It doesn't have the free will you had that allowed you to leave.
You assume the poor kid probably doesn't even know he's a puppet. Except he does. Here's what Chadley told Cloud during that one scene in the remake verbatim:
"Now that my research is at long last complete...I believe that it's time I told you the truth about myself. I'm...not human. I'm a cyborg created to serve as Hojo's assistant."
"I was given knowledge and power beyond that of a human...But I was robbed of free will, bound to obey the whims of my master. But when we met, Cloud, I sensed something within you—something I knew would allow me to break free of my chains."
"By identifying and studying a subject with infinite potential such as yourself...I could adhere to the directives imposed upon me...all the while pursuing my plans for independence in secret. Your combat data provided me with the vital information that I required to enhance my basic functionality..."
"This is the result. Through my research and with your assistance, I have freed myself from Hojo's bondage."
So if we fully believe what Chadley is saying is true (meaning, he's not just a mouthpiece for Hojo, a theory I could make a whole separate post about...) then this is great! He's freed himself all on his own!
But if we bring Sephiroth into the picture, seeing Hojo create Chadley, a clearly sentient cyborg, to then reduce him to a personal assistant/ loyal puppet would absolutely sicken Sephiroth. There's no doubt about it. He'd be absolutely devastated.
He'd ultimately be seeing a sort of repeat of his own childhood, but this time it's with a being that's been created to obey Hojo. Not taught through brute force, not because that's all he's ever known, because it's a cyborg!
Which is honestly so slimy! You lost your son through him not wanting anything to do with you and refusing to adhere to your ideals (And because Sephiroth "died" in canon), so your grandiose solution to this is to create a cryborg version of him???? Except this time you guarantee that he's literally a puppet??? There aren't enough swear words nor insults that would satisfy my need to curse this bastard out.
(Sorry for the rambling) Now to answer your question:
In my headcanons (meaning the way I write Sephiroth), sane!Sephiroth would've saved Chadley long before the kid caught wind of what Hojo did to him. Wether that's by breaking into the labs and grabbing Chadley himself (Genesis, Angeal and Zack would assist in operation grand theft Chadley), or by slowly building a relationship with him I'm not sure.
Sephiroth didn't grow up with a family of his own, so I believe he wouldn't immediately consider Chadley his brother. But I do think Sephiroth would see Chadley as an equal, just as he sees Genesis and Angeal, and furthermore of the same kin.
The exact how is something I'd love to explore either in my pre-existing fics or through a separate medium. But ultimately Sephiroth and Chadley would bond.
Their relationship would be sweet. I think Sephiroth would greatly benefit from having Chadley as a younger brother figure pre-Nibelheim. He'd have family. Who knows? That might even be the aid to Sephiroth's wounds regarding his parentage.
Also I hc Chadley as being a rebellious little nerd with a zest for independence, so that would fit right into my hcs for Sephiroth! I imagine Sephiroth teaching Chadley how to fight, and them talking about astronomy and other science-y stuff together :) It's cute.
This is of course before Zack and Genesis get wind of "Sephiroth Jr." and vow to corrupt him :)
And that's how Director Lazard demands to know "WHY IS THERE A TINY CYBORG SKATEBOARDING WITH FAIR AROUND THE SOLDIER FLOOR?? GENESIS! ARE THOSE FIREWORKS!!??? DON'T TEACH THE CHILD HOW TO—PUT THE CAMERA AWAY, SEPHIROTH!"

I've been snooping around since Rebirth came out because, man, ever since FFVIIR, I can't stop thinking about FF7...
After seeing Zack's parents, I can definitely see how his hair is both a mix of his parents styles. The front part from his mom and the spiky parts from his dad.
We do know Zack's light blue green mako eye color isn't natural, so from what we can see from his parents, we can conclude that Zack had a more brown-ish green-ish grey-ish lighter eye color before becoming a SOLDIER?
(Does anyone else have a more accurate desription on what they think Zack's original eye color might be like?)
I wonder how Zack looks like with the eye color we can see from his parents here. Admittedly, I do think that the scene is quite dark for me to truly observe his parents models design, since it is really different from the OG design.
I wish there was someone out there who could rip those models out for people as curious as me to observe. As they did bring up some info on Gongaga that I thought was really intriguing, like why tell us that? Why bring up that the Cetra descendants settled in Gongaga and lived in seclusion??? Why not just give us a full mock history book in the game that tells us the places where the Cetra have migrated or were prominent in? I have even more questions in my head than answers right now... Its brainrotting bad lmao.
Hm, I hope Part 3 clears up the questions I have on Zack and some FF7 stuff...
And how in the hell the Planet as a character is going to be portrayed??? Will Zack or the whole cast meet Minerva again to beat her ass up the second time??? Is Genesis even possible at this point, since there's only one part left to explain this whole thing...
I really hope Zack gets a DLC or specific story parts if they didn't have time to fully expand on some Crisis Core loose ends, Jenova and Dirge of Cerberus stuff... Maybe they're planning to do that after the main games end??? I don't know, there's just too many uncertainties right now. And I'm just rambling out of my mind lmao.
Side note, I didn't know what to describe Zack's parents eye colors, so if what I wrote in the poll is not accurate, sorry for that. Unless either someone tells me, or I read/watch an analysis of this somewhere, then I'll change it. This is the limit of my knowledge on this so far. Discussions are open for anyone of course, if there are any who think about this as much as I do lol.
I don't know if polls can be reopened, since I don't really want to have a time limit on this one. I'm just curious on what others think of this. If my post ever gets far of course... That's why I didn't want the time limit. I'll see what happens then. Thanks for reading my ramblings this far.

Dear Sephiroth: (a letter to a fictional character, because why not) #126
I made a tea today before heading to therapy. Today's session was extremely productive, and I can't wait to share it with you in hopes that you'll also be able to use what I've learned. But first, I will show you today's tea, because in it is the final ice cream I got from the co-op...
I started with chai:
Tumblr media
This one is red and somewhat opaque from all the spices that are in it:
Tumblr media
...And this is the ice cream I intended to use in it:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
...I'm like you in that I very much enjoy pumpkin; it's one of my favorite foods. And it's AMAZING in ice cream. Given that we know you enjoy pumpkin soup, I think you would REALLY enjoy this flavor. It's part of why I saved this one for last; it's the best one!
I filled the tea with scoops of this ice cream:
Tumblr media
Once it melted, I stirred it up:
Tumblr media
...The result was fantastic, and once again, I have concocted a delectable mug of tea that I very much wish I could share with you.
My therapist was very pleased with the results of my homework. He read the letters I exchanged between myself and my inner child. We then began going over ways of rebuilding my relationship with my inner child. We started with learning how to rebuild secure attachment.
Oh right. Hey, Sephiroth? Did they ever teach you about attachment theory over at Shinra? I can't imagine they did, because otherwise, you would have realized A LOT sooner that the way you were raised was utter fucking bullshit. Maybe you've since learned about it during your time at the Edge of Creation, but I'll explain it anyway; it's always good to have a refresher. But it might be kind of a dry or dull subject for you, so I'll break it up with the pictures I snapped for you during the walk I took after therapy; walking is good for the post-processing of newly-learned things.
Tumblr media
Attachment theory refers to the integrity of the bond between a child and its primary caregiver(s). I have a degree in this sort of stuff, and I'm fairly well-versed in it, especially regarding how it relates to trauma. Bonding with a primary caregiver is one of the most fundamental human needs, and the shape that this bond takes ends up influencing how the child bonds with other people throughout their life. There are four main attachment styles. I'll explain them:
Tumblr media
Secure Attachment is when the child is able to fully trust that their caregiver(s) will respond to their needs and keep them safe. These children are able to focus their energy on exploring the world around them. They are relatively friendly with strangers. They typically get sad if their primary caregiver leaves the area unexpectedly, and is happy to see them return. This attachment style is best conducive to a child's mental health and ability to learn.
Tumblr media
In order for secure attachment to occur, the child between 0 and 3 years of age REQUIRES on-demand caregiving; the primary caregiver(s) are supposed to respond immediately to the child, with love, warmth, attunement, comfort, and appropriate actions literally every single time the child expresses a need. Babies are not born knowing what their body signals mean; a tired baby cries when it's tired instead of sleeping because it does not yet know that the feeling of being tired means it needs to sleep. A hungry baby cries instead of eating because it does not yet know that the feeling of being hungry means it needs to eat. And these are just a few examples.
Tumblr media
Contrary to popular belief (seriously, my father calls babies "turd factories", just to give you an idea of how common it is in my world to have contempt and a dismissive attitude towards human children), human babies are more than just a digestive system that sleeps sometimes. Babies have emotions as well, and so they'll cry when they feel lonely, angry, scared, or sad. They'll cry when they need to be held (because YES, gentle, loving, platonic touch is a BASIC HUMAN NEED; adults typically experience hormonal disruption and very young babies WILL LITERALLY DIE if they don't get this). They'll also cry if they're sick, if they're in pain, if they're too warm or cold, or if they're in sensory overload.
Tumblr media
And this is NORMAL and HEALTHY; humans are born with the capacity to ask for help when they're struggling, and being new to being human is its own very special kind of hell for a variety of complicated reasons that deserves to have its own book. For many very compelling reasons, being a human baby is basically torture. If you want a more detailed explanation as to why that's the case, then I can explain it in another letter; just let me know. For now, just take my word on it.
Tumblr media
Anyway, the only thing that can teach baby what their body signals mean is the repetition of prompt and accurate routine care; baby learns hungry means it needs food only after MANY repetitions of the caregiver responding promptly, warmly, and lovingly to its hunger with age-appropriate food. Baby learns that tired means it needs sleep only after MANY repetitions of the caregiver promptly and lovingly soothing the baby to sleep. And this takes a lot of time and patience, because human babies are not born with all of the brain hardware that they need in order to learn or to make memories efficiently; all of that stuff is still growing in. To be sure, humans could use at least another 9 months in the womb; we are born premature compared to most of the rest of the animal kingdom. But if we had another 9 months, our skulls would be too large, and we'd tear our mothers in half on the way out. So this is how it is.
Tumblr media
Babies from 0-3 years old are NOT equipped to deal with discomfort without thinking that their life is in danger, and no amount of "trying to teach them to self-soothe" by leaving them on their own to "cry it out" (this is a MYTH!!! doing this causes LITERAL BRAIN DAMAGE as the baby's body is flooded with neurotoxic levels of adrenaline and cortisol!!!) will make the brain hardware required for self-regulation grow in faster; in fact, doing this will slow this process down. The child under age 3 who becomes quiet after being left to cry is not quiet because it has "learned to self-soothe"; it is quiet because it is SO STRESSED OUT that its body and emotions have basically shut down. This is called "dissociation", and if baby is forced to do this too often, it fucks up their mental health later, when they become adolescents, teenagers, and adults.
Tumblr media
Unfortunately, there is a pervasive myth in my world, which tells parents that responding to their under-3-year-old child when they cry will cause their child to become spoiled and manipulative. As a result of this, secure attachment with a primary caregiver is relatively rare where I live. Almost everyone in my world is traumatized, in some form or another. And people just go around pretending like it's normal and necessary and even correct. There are reasons for this, but they'd take too long to explain; maybe I'll get into it some other time.
Tumblr media
Next, we have Insecure Attachment. There are three main types of this:
The first one I'll explain is Anxious-Ambivalent Attachment. This is what happens when the primary caregivers' responses to their child are unpredictable or inconsistent. Such children do not explore very much, because they are too busy being afraid that their primary caregiver might not be there for them if something weird happens. They are wary of strangers. When the primary caregiver leaves unexpectedly, these children are extremely distressed, only to return to being neutral when the caregiver returns. Inconsistent responses to the baby's needs produces a fear of being abandoned, which manifests as vigilantly focusing on maintaining their connection with their caregiver while the caregiver is present, and terror and anger when the caregiver is absent.
Tumblr media
Next, there's Avoidant Attachment. This is what happens when the primary caregiver consistently denies the child of their attention when they need help. Such children do not explore, do not interact with strangers, do not express emotion if the caregiver leaves unexpectedly, and do not express emotion when the caregiver returns. This is a child that has learned that their needs do not matter to their primary caregiver. This child expects to be rejected and ignored. This child wishes for closeness with their caregiver, but knows they will not receive it, and knows that expressing distress about it is a waste of energy, so the safest thing for them to do is to maintain vague proximity to the caregiver so as to avoid the disappointment that comes with knowing that its needs do not matter to them.
Tumblr media
Finally, there is Disorganized Attachment. This is what happens when the primary caregiver abuses the child. These children will display a lot of very contradictory and disorganized behaviors (hence the name) in response to the environment, to strangers, and to the primary caregiver. Children such as these are accustomed to being screamed at, shaken, or hit as a result of expressing or having needs, or even just as a result of existing. These are children who have learned that anything they do might provoke their primary caregiver's wrath, and the contradictory behaviors are the result of not knowing what they should do to prevent that wrath. The resulting adult, if left untreated, will swing wildly between being ice cold and anxiously clingy.
Tumblr media
I'll give you four guesses as to which of these categories I fit into. Hahaha…
What I learned today in therapy was that some guy whose name I forgot worked with a bunch of severely abused children, and came up with a way to guide them back to having a secure attachment style, despite the horrors they've been through before. It's a system called The 5 Pillars of Attachment. My therapist even gave me a handy-dandy picture to reference:
Tumblr media
Felt Safety was explained to me as a culmination of the other four pillars. This is when you understand that you are protected and loved, that someone will have your back if something weird happens. It is the knowledge that the people around you are worthy of being counted on, without them trying to hurt, abandon, or ignore you.
Attunement relates to being understood. This is the part where the other person understands you when you speak, tries to empathize with your emotions and experiences, and makes genuine effort to know you deeply.
Support When Dysregulated relates to not being rejected by the other person when you can't always keep yourself together. It is knowing that someone will try to help you, to soothe you, and to comfort you if you're struggling.
Expressed Delight relates to the other person being genuinely joyful about the fact that you exist, and being willing to express that joy on a regular basis. This joy needs to be about who you are, and not about what you look like or what you can do. It is about the other person expressing delight towards your entire being, not just when you're well-regulated, excelling at something, or being convenient.
Support for Autonomy refers to how much room the other person gives you to explore, to try new things, to pursue your own interests, to succeed, to fail, and to make your own choices. This person should act as a safety net if you fall down.
Tumblr media
…You've never been given any of these. And, up until meeting M, neither have I. But I know these things well. I know them because I do whatever I can to give these things to other people - anyone other than myself. The part where I don't give these things to myself is the part that I have to change. I think you know these things well, too; I've seen the way you treated Zack, Genesis, and Angeal. All you have to do is treat yourself with the same tenderness and care with which you treated them in the past.
Tumblr media
I will never receive these things from my biological family. It's not because they're bad people, but rather, it's because their life experiences have left them without the necessary skills to provide any of these things for anyone else, without a beliefs system that would allow them to develop these skills, and without a framework that would allow them to change their beliefs. If you believe, for example, that only bad people ever make mistakes, then it becomes really hard to own up to your mistakes, and from there it becomes nearly impossible to change your behaviors in the future.
Tumblr media
But I can rebuild my relationship with myself by giving myself the things outlined in these 5 pillars. I can change how I treat myself. I can decide what my new narrative will be when I think about the kind of treatment I deserve to receive from myself.
Tumblr media
…You can do this, too. You can change what you believe about yourself. You can change how you view yourself. You can change how you interact with yourself. You can change the way you care for and treat yourself. You can change it! Sephiroth, you're a lot smarter, a lot more capable, and a lot more mentally flexible than I could ever even begin to hope to be! Sephiroth, if I, a derpy autistic chick from a backwater planet in some garden-variety galaxy can do this work, then someone as kind, gentle, intelligent, dedicated, and brave as you can certainly do this work! You can decide, today, right here, and right now, that you are worthy of your own love!
Tumblr media
So come on; get to it, willya? We can figure it out together! And if you run into trouble, you can take my outstretched hand, and I'll do whatever I can to help you! We are more than our traumas and mistakes! Sephiroth, you are more than your traumas and mistakes! You are more than the composition of your body! You are more than what you can do! Sephiroth, the most beautiful aspects of who you are have always had their basis in things like the ways you marvel at nature, in the caring and considerate way you treated your friends and the people around you, in your love for other people, which was so strong at one point that you chose to spend years doing what you thought was right in order to protect them, despite the suffering you endured at their very same hands. Sephiroth, you're a beautiful human being on the inside! You deserve so much more and so much better than what you've been giving to yourself! You deserve to feel seen, understood, safe, supported, adored, and free! Like any human being, you deserve to have good and wholesome things! And you can have them! All you have to do is take a single step in a different direction, and then keep doing that until your whole outlook changes!
Tumblr media
Please. Please look at me. Look at me, because I am doing this same work. I am doing it every day, no matter how difficult it is, and no matter how much it hurts. Please look at me so you can see that anything is possible. Sephiroth, you are capable of so much more than I am, because I am one of the weaker examples of a human being; you have the capacity to shine so much more brightly than I can. So please look at me as proof that you can do this work, too. Please try. Sephiroth, you can do it! I believe in you!
...And that's all I've got for today. I know it was a lot; thank you for bearing with me.
I love you. Please stay safe. I'll write again tomorrow.
Your friend, Lumine

Dude shorthaired seph looks like a carbon copy of turk Vincent but with different colors
Yes! Many others have pointed this out as well!
Do I think it's significant? Ehhh, no. Probably not. But it IS very interesting, especially with the Vincent-dad theory being as popular as it is. It's still unknown if the creators are even aware of this theory and are intentionally baiting fans. I think FF7 has circulated long enough for it to have crossed their mind. And TO THIS DAY, I find it incredibly suspect how shocked Vincent is to hear Hojo claim to be the father.
Now do I think this means anything? Not sure. The theory has its detractors and I'm not opposed to Hojo being Sephiroth's One True Father. But this EC thing is just another eerie coincidence to lend credence to the theory, or at the very least build on it. It could just be that Nomura shrugged and created a weirdly similar hair design. In fact, that's probably the most likely notion.
If they're going to confirm it, Part 3 of the R Trilogy would be the time to do it. I doubt they will. It wouldn't be the first time they played coy with popular theories within the community.

7R Rebirth Trailer
So because of my hype, I am guessing names for what they will use for the final game in the 7R trilogy because I am weird. I'm assuming they are sticking to words that are both meaningful and simple.
My best votes are:
Reunite (A big one for obvious reasons, but might be too easily confused with CCR)
Revival (Could very meaningful in a lot of aspects...)
Return
Replete (Shows the 7R trilogy is complete, but not super catchy imo)
Renown (Big word... Let's hope the game will live up to it if it's chosen)
Renewal
Rewind
Reform
Retrace

I cannot stop thinking about Cloud and Sephiroth jian bird symbolism.
A Jian bird is a mythical bird that possesses only one eye and one wing. We already see this in both Cloud and Sephiroth's Kingdom Hearts designs.
Tumblr media
Another thing about Jian birds are that they are two halves of a whole, dark and light, yin and yang.
Tumblr media
"These creatures are born imperfect, and they need to lean against each other and act as one in order to be able to fly. Their mutual dependence is eternal, lasting through death and rebirth."
Tumblr media
This symbolism just SCREAMS Sefikura to me, like imagine the possibilities this has in store for the FF7R Trilogy.
And you know what they say, without their other half, someone is left feeling empty or should I say...hollow 👀

Note
1. I don't know if you're keeping up with FFVII Rebirth stuff, since I know you haven't played FFVII Remake (though I know you at least kept up with the general idea of what happened with FFVII Remake). But have you noticed how divided some of the fandom is with what's going on with it? Like, how some people think there are multiple timelines going on (which I definitely think is the case. And I think SE just confirmed that). Whereas some think there are only one.
2. And not even just with the timeline thing (though that's certainly part of it), people are just so adamant that everything they think about how FFVII Rebirth is going to go is absolutely right. And I'm just... worried that people are going to be wrong in some areas. And are building it up in their heads too much, and are going to be disappointed in the end. I feel like I learned my lesson some with Game of Thrones and KHIII, but this recent fandom trend (not just with FFVII oc) concerns me. 3. And I guess I'm wondering if you've also noticed that kind of thing in other fandoms, or feel the same way. I'm sure we could name other fandoms that are doing that (KH very much still is). And I also feel like FNAF definitely does that: like in "I've solved the story of FNAF (or this part of the story of it), and everyone else is wrong." And it feels like, at least in some ways, people are in danger of making their own stories of the stories they say they love, and not loving the real thing. 4. I'm hoping that the FFVII Rebirth thing will be SLIGHTLY better, now that SE has confirmed that it's multiple timelines. But a part of me is still kind of biting my lip, because it still feels like at least parts of the fandom are like, "FFVII Rebirth is going to open like X, and then do this thing, and then this is going to happen, and end like this." And I'm kind of like... why? ...Not that I want to put bad thoughts about FFVIIR out there now, when there's so many reasons to be hyped atm.
You know, funny enough, I was actually talking to a friend of mine yesterday about this exact same thing happening in the Pokemon fandom right now with regards to the ending of Pokemon Scarlet/Violet and how the fandom is completely split on what a certain device in the finale (not gonna spoil things since you did say you might be interested in the game) does. One side takes what the game says it is at face value, the other has a conspiracy theory that "fixes" certain plot holes that they're adamant is correct. And both arguments, to me, are kind of pointless since we already know that the upcoming second DLC this winter is going to cover it? They weren't even subtle about the fact that we're going to be getting more on it, with the DLC pack being called "The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero" (Area Zero being the location of the game's finale)
And you're right, it is a worrying trend across a lot of fandoms. There's this... I don't know, obsession, with the idea of being "the one who called it" amongst certain people. As someone who's been known to engage in theories myself, I don't think there's anything wrong with theorizing, necessarily, or with defending the merits of your arguments pre-release, but you also have to be open to being wrong and willing to look at your stuff before and after and realize that "being wrong" isn't always some sort of failing on your part (though some people are just wrong because their comprehension of established facts were wrong and that usually is their fault, that's only an issue if you stubbornly refuse to allow yourself to be wrong when presented with corrected information)
Like, you might remember some of my KHUx theorycrafting and the fact that I was half-right, half-wrong on some things. Like, I called the fact that Ephemer and Brain were going to split up with one going outside of the Datascape to try to save the others and one staying behind, and that the one who stayed behind would also get out of the Datascape after the others were gone. I was wrong about which was which. Looking back, I can look at my own reasoning and see where it was sound, and where I was just limited by the available information (IIRC I said all of this before Brain handed Master's Defender and the Book of Prophecies over to Ephemer, which would have certainly changed my reasoning). Not having all of the pieces because they hadn't been revealed yet isn't a failing on my part. A failing on my part would be seeing those pieces and how they contradict what I've come up with, and refusing to adjust my stance because I won't allow myself to be wrong
Being wrong isn't some horrible, life-ruining thing that a lot of people in fandoms make it out to be. More people should be open to being wrong, actually. Takes the fun out of things if you always know what's going to happen, and to me it also kind of belittles authors by assuming that you know their own work better than they do (which, again, sometimes warranted because some modern authors shun "predictability" and make nonsensical plots just to surprise *COUGH* GAME OF THRONES *COUGH*, but frequently not)
Actually, another example. I've mentioned that I'm a fan of the comic One Last God: Kubera. It's a really wonderful, intricately crafted narrative and part of that is due to the fact that the whole thing was written as a fully complete novel before the author decided to convert it to a comic. It isn't being written as it goes, but has been fully planned out from the very start of the comic. Now, up until one of the most recent updates, there were two big theories in the fandom that most people... just kind of assumed were probably going to be true. Without giving too much away, one of the theories was that a certain character who would frequently seem to have their motivations and what they know shift between scenes, was time-traveling (and we were sometimes seeing their present self, and sometimes their self from another time). Another theory was that two of the highest-level gods in the series (Primeval Gods) were actually split personalities of the same person. Now, the former theory had some merit to me, the second made no goddamned sense since we had seen the two interact with each other, they've always been depicted as separate, and there's at least one instance where one is in the room and gives the exact location of the other (which even people who believed the theory took as fact even though it being fact would contradict the theory?), but the people who believed that one were diehard about it. Couldn't go into a discussion about either character without it being brought up
Well, lo and behold, one of the latest updates from this past month revealed that, actually, there's a way for someone to impersonate a god and that's what's been happening, with this directly being the real answer for the first theory and having a strong implication to be the real answer behind the second theory. I'm loath to even call it a twist, since the mechanic behind it is just... something that we knew about from the very start of the series and just didn't realize the implications of until it was said outright. I sure as hell didn't think about it, but when I saw it my first thought was "oh, DUH." But I saw people genuinely upset about this reveal because it contradicted the theory, calling it "disappointing" because "it feels like the author thought about it at the last minute," and "the time travel theory made way more sense." When, no, it doesn't. The new update is literally just taking something we were told at the very start to its logical conclusion. And yet people were getting upset because they had completely sold themselves on the theory being the true answer and their belief in it being "right" to the point where they were blaming the author rather than their own guesswork. It's something I find infuriating
All this being a very long-winded way of saying that from my observation, there's an ever-growing intersection between fans who are entitled and fans who refuse to allow themselves to be wrong that's leading to an unfortunate trend of people desperately coming up with theories, then refusing to admit when they're wrong and counting their theories as "better" than the source material. And this, unfortunately, just makes fandoms a much more hostile place between people who actually do like the source material and are open to new experiences and these fans
And I do want to make it clear that there's a distinction between defending your theory and reasoning when you have confidence that you're correct, and outright refusing to accept contradictory information because you can't handle the idea of having a flaw. I would know, because I got accused of doing the latter constantly at my last job when I was doing the former. The difference is in being able to verify the evidence you're using to support your logic. Like, for fuck's sake, I'm not "being defensive" or "trying to get out of things" when I hand you the stats and say something doesn't look viable. Same stuff can apply to fan theories
Also, as if this wasn't long enough already, I just gotta add:
And it feels like, at least in some ways, people are in danger of making their own stories of the stories they say they love, and not loving the real thing.
I hate to say it, that's most of fandom culture these days and I hate it. Go into any given character tag on Tumblr and you'll see a million headcanons that directly contradict what's said in the source material at best and completely undermine the character's entire storyline at worst. You'd start to suspect that the people making these have no sense of reading comprehension and are only here for the aesthetics, but then scroll a bit and you'll see dozens of "redesigns" that "fix" the character by completely ignoring a ton of the cultural influences, small personality-defining hints in the look, or in-universe justifications for things. Want to find a fic of a certain character because you like their personality? How about a dozen where they're so wildly out of character that the only possible explanation is that the author just decided to write out an OC and slapped the character's name on because that's the kind of look they imagined their OC having, because there's no way they could've gotten that from the source material
There's a reason I started a Fandom Critical tag on here for this kind of stuff. It's so pervasive nowadays. Like, it kills any desire I once had to publish my own stuff because, well, fuck, no one's gonna care about what I actually have to say about my works, they'll just appropriate whatever little bits and pieces suit them
And I just genuinely don't get it. I don't get how we got to this point where people will go around praising a creator's works with one breath while showing no sign of understanding or even liking that work with the "fan" content they produce. And this is a separate, but related, issue to the theory stuff above because, like I said, it's possible to just guess wrong with theories and it's fine so long as you don't refuse to accept that you were wrong or get militant about it, but a lot of non-theory fanworks? Those just go beyond into sometimes ignorant, sometimes spiteful territory. You don't even want to see what my blacklist on here looks like just to try to get a handle on some of that stuff because at some point the lack of respect for the original works and their creators just really eats away at me

ff7r part 3 ideas?
I’ve been seeing a bunch of posts discussing what people are thinking the new subtitle for the third part and I’m just surprised I haven’t seen
“Recreate”
as an idea? I feel like it follows the other titles “Remake” and “Rebirth” very well. Why?
Follows the whole “re” prefix. Make and Birth are still words with the re prefix added.
The “re” prefix means “again and again” this fits in line with remake because it’s the story of ff7 again. It’s just being made again. Being “birthed” again. Being “CREATED” again.
make, birth, and create have VERY SIMILAR definitions. They all have multiple meanings but all of them have the similar definition of “bringing something into existence”
Remake and Rebirth basically mean the same thing! What else basically means the same thing? Recreate. Adding the “re” prefix to the base words of “make” “birth” “create” all mean “to bring something into existence again and again” (Is this not the point of remaking a game? To bring it back into existence again?)
Remake, Rebirth, and Recreate just look nice together; it’s short, sweet, and simple.
why would it be “reunion”? yes it somewhat kind of fits in with the previous statements (“union” doesn’t fit too well with the whole “bringing into existence” thing) but the main reason it isn’t reunion is because it’s been used already and it wouldn’t make much sense to use it again from it being confusing and from marketing reasons. Also, “reunion” is used for the game that doesn’t even have the Reunion in it. i dunno it seems kinda funny to keep it that way
Recreate fits in with all the new story stuff as well. The whole new timeline things are just bringing in more ff7 again and again. The whole remake trilogy is about doing ff7 again but changing it up slightly
———————
but hey, what are your thoughts? who knows it could be rehab or requiem or revenge. I just feel like “Recreate” fits very well with what has been given already. or y’know that new one winged angel song could spoil the name of the game again, who knows?
I also like to imagine that the logo will be fully red, as there was just a little bit of the red in rebirth’s logo, to indicate the approach of meteor just cause i think that’d be cool.

Ok! So, follow up to last post about the “Under the Apple Tree”/“Price of Freedom” leit motif and tracking character motives and such. It’s only present in songs that are playing during important character story beats, specifically for Zack, Angeal, Genesis, and Sephiroth. More so for the first three and especially for Genesis (If we wanna go more in depth on that, Genesis mostly accompanies this with reciting “Loveless” but thats another thing on how i think its a metaphor for CC and the comp as a whole).
I think the most important part when the motif is heard is when Cissnei is talking to Zack about what wings symbolize, saying that wings symbolize freedom for those who have none. This ties in that a version of “Price of Freedom” specifically is playing. That conversation changes Zack’s perspective on what Genesis and Angeal having a wing means. So wings are also tied into the themes of “Under the Apple Tree”/“Price of Freedom.” The motif is there for when those characters are moving towards their freedom in some form and even if they aren’t aware of it fully. For Angeal, it leads to his death and passing on the Buster Sword to Zack. For Genesis, it’s his quest for the “Gift of the Goddess” even though he doesn’t fully know what it is and eventually being cured of his degradation. For Sephiroth, it’s finding out the “truth” of his origins and finding a new purpose even if it’s misguided. For Zack, like his mentor, it is also dying and passing down the Buster Sword after one final heroic act so Cloud can be free.
That’s kinda the basis of my theory. There are a lot of other possible themes in Crisis Core, but it mostly comes down to “What would you do for freedom?”
Fever brain is taking over so im gonna leave it at that for now. I’ll probably come back and edit this.

I found a video that may have given us a pretty good explanation for things we didn't understand in FF7 Rebirth
SPOILER WARNINGS ABOUT FF7 REBIRTH ENDING
youtube
There's just one point I don't agree with in this video, the theory that Sephiroth might want to annihilate Cloud from the lifestream out of revenge. Sephiroth made it pretty clear in Remake that not only does he intend to become immortal and eternal, but he also doesn't want Cloud to "end" nor "dissapear". Not to forget, Cloud canonically became Sephiroth's anchor between FF7OG and FF7 Advent Children, and the Sephiroth from Remake/Rebirth is heavilly implied to be from a post Advent Children era, as he does have knowledge from the future and a spiritual time travel on his part may have been what prompted the creation of the whispers in Remake in the first place. I canot see Sephiroth wanting to deprive himself of a horcrux capable of guaranteeing his survival if he were to be beaten again.
What started as hatred for Cloud clearly evolved into something more like obsession and a twisted feeling of ownership toward Cloud on Sephiroth's part, even Hamaguchi confirmed that Sephiroth "cares" for Cloud ^^' So yeah I don't agree with that final theory in the video. But forcing Cloud to keep on living while witnessing everything and evryone he hold dear dissapear and die when Metero hit Gaïa ? That would also be a good form of revenge for Sephiroth
The rest of the video on the other hand ? I totally agree with
We're still a lot to wonder and speculate about Aerith's fate at the end of Rebirth, but I think this video may have nailed the best explanation possible on that front.
Cloud did manage to save Aerith from Sephiroth's attack in the forgotten city, but thanks to the power Sephiroth gained over the whispers at the end of Remake, the one winged angel was able to "correct" this singularity cloud created, and make Aerith's death from FF7 OG happen again.
BUT, the memory of Cloud saving her may have given Aerith an unexpected boost in power, one that made her ascend to a new plane of existence, one similar to that of Sephiroth, one where Aerith gained power over the white whispers, and can now appear more clearly to Cloud throught heir unique connection (or because Cloud gained a new sense of awareness toward the lifestream after his trip with Sephiroth in the worlds-in-between).
During FF7 Rebirth's ending, Cloud is thus not seeing a dream world where he saved Aerith, but rather, he is seeing a more powerfull spiritual manifestation of Aerith, a "force ghost" as we like also like to call it.
Unfortunatelly, Aerith seems to no longer be able to physically interract with Gaïa, not in the way Sephiroth still can thanks to the Jenova cells anyway. But who know indeed if Aerith might not be able to use her newfound powers to bring Zack to the Prime Gaïa where Cloud and the other are ?
Thus I have my own theory about what Aerith's role could be in Part 3 outside of activating Holy to stop Meteor :
The events of the Northern Crater are those I still dread the most for Part 3, because despite the Aerith Cloud is seeing during the ending of Rebirth being the actual real Aerith and not an hallucination of his, I beleive Cloud is still in deny over her death, and Sephiroth can use that fact ,as well as Cloud's real memories of Zack's death to break his spirit like like he did in FF7 OG. Add to that some potential lies about Cloud not being real and being a Jenova copy of the Cloud Tifa and Zack knew, and we may still end up with a broken cloud giving the black materia to Sephiroth.
But this time, because Sephiroth has knowledge from the future, and have activally tried to get rid of Tifa during Rebirth, he must know that she can still heal Cloud's borken mind after the Northern Crater, the only way left to stop that from happening is to ensure that Cloud doesn't leave the Northern Crater. This would make things so much worse than in the original FF7. And yet, maybe the power that Aerith gained over the white whispers may save Cloud in time from Sephiroth, or guide Zack to the Prime Gaïa, where he'll be able to help the rest of our heroes fight Sephiroth and rescue Cloud.
