Picked up some exciting things from the pharmacy today…
I’ve lost a ton of weight, and I’m seeing a lot of improvement in PCOS symptoms (hell yeah!) so we just want to see where my body is right now.
Fingers crossed, trust, and baby dust!
(images cropped for privacy, if you know me IRL we aren’t announcing this and I want it to be as low-key as possible so please don’t bring it up ♥️)

In in vitro fertilization (IVF), ovarian stimulation protocols are tailored to optimize egg production.
Some common protocols include:
GnRH Agonist Long Protocol: Gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) agonists are used to suppress natural hormone production, followed by gonadotropin stimulation to induce multiple follicle development.
GnRH Antagonist Protocol: GnRH antagonists are used to prevent premature ovulation without the initial suppression phase, allowing for more flexibility in timing and reducing the risk of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS).
Microdose Flare Protocol: This protocol involves the administration of low doses of GnRH agonist in the early follicular phase to stimulate the release of endogenous gonadotropins.
Luteal Phase Protocol: Gonadotropin stimulation starts in the luteal phase of the preceding menstrual cycle, bypassing the need for down-regulation with GnRH agonists.
Natural Cycle Protocol: In some cases, IVF can be performed in a natural cycle without ovarian stimulation, where only one egg is retrieved.
Minimal Stimulation Protocol: This protocol involves using lower doses of gonadotropins to produce fewer but potentially higher quality eggs, reducing the risk of complications.
The selection of an ovarian stimulation protocol in IVF depends on various factors, including:
Age of the Woman: Younger women typically respond better to ovarian stimulation and may require different protocols compared to older women.
Ovarian Reserve: The quantity and quality of a woman's remaining eggs influence the choice of protocol. Women with diminished ovarian reserve may require different stimulation approaches.
Previous Response to Stimulation: A woman's response to previous ovarian stimulation cycles can guide the selection of a protocol for future cycles.
Body Mass Index (BMI): Women with higher BMI may require different dosages or protocols to optimize ovarian response.
Presence of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS): Women with PCOS may have a different hormonal profile and may require specific protocols tailored to their condition.
Risk of Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome (OHSS): Women at higher risk of OHSS may benefit from antagonist protocols or modified stimulation strategies to reduce this risk.
Patient Preferences and Lifestyle Factors: Some patients may prefer protocols with fewer injections or a shorter duration of treatment, while others may prioritize the chance of a higher egg yield.
Clinician's Expertise and Clinic Protocols: Individual clinics and clinicians may have preferences based on their experience and success rates with different protocols.
By considering these factors, fertility specialists can tailor ovarian stimulation protocols to optimize outcomes for each individual patient undergoing IVF.

Understanding Female Infertility: Causes, Evaluation, and Hope
Many couples dream of starting a family, but sometimes, conception doesn't happen as easily as planned. If you've been trying to get pregnant for a year without success, you might be wondering if you're experiencing infertility. While infertility can be a challenging experience, it's important to remember that you're not alone and there are many resources available to help.
This blog post aims to provide you with information about female infertility, including common causes, the evaluation process, and available treatment options. By understanding the factors that can contribute to infertility, you can feel more empowered to make informed decisions about your reproductive health.
Causes of female infertility
Several factors can contribute to female infertility. Some of the most common causes include:
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS): This hormonal imbalance can disrupt ovulation and make it difficult to conceive.
Ovarian insufficiency: This condition occurs when the ovaries stop producing eggs prematurely.
Tubal blockages: Scarring or blockages in the fallopian tubes can prevent sperm from reaching the egg.
Endometriosis: This condition causes tissue similar to the uterine lining to grow outside the uterus, which can interfere with implantation.
Fibroids and polyps: These growths in the uterus can affect implantation and increase the risk of miscarriage.
Age: As women age, their fertility naturally declines.
It's important to note that this list is not exhaustive, and there are many other potential causes of female infertility. If you're concerned about your fertility, it's important to talk to your doctor for a personalized evaluation.
Evaluation process
If you're experiencing difficulty conceiving, your doctor will likely recommend an infertility evaluation. This process typically involves:
Medical history: Your doctor will ask you about your medical history, including any past pregnancies, surgeries, and chronic health conditions.
Physical exam: Your doctor will perform a physical exam to check for any abnormalities that could be contributing to infertility.
Tests: Depending on your individual situation, your doctor may order various tests, such as:
Blood tests: These tests can assess hormone levels, ovarian reserve, and other factors that may be affecting your fertility.
Imaging tests: An ultrasound or hysterosalpingogram (HSG) can provide images of your uterus and fallopian tubes to identify any structural problems.
The evaluation process can help your doctor pinpoint the cause of your infertility and recommend the most appropriate treatment options.
Treatment options
There are many different treatment options available for female infertility, depending on the underlying cause. Some common treatments include:
Lifestyle changes: Maintaining a healthy weight, eating a balanced diet, and exercising regularly can improve your overall health and fertility.
Ovulation induction: This medication helps stimulate ovulation in women who don't ovulate regularly.
Intrauterine insemination (IUI): This procedure involves placing sperm directly into the uterus, increasing the chances of fertilization.
In vitro fertilization (IVF): This more complex procedure involves fertilizing eggs with sperm outside the body and then implanting the resulting embryos into the uterus.
It's important to discuss your treatment options with your doctor to determine the best approach for you.
Conclusion
Infertility can be a challenging journey, but it's important to remember that you're not alone. With proper evaluation and treatment, many couples are able to achieve their dream of parenthood. If you're experiencing infertility, don't hesitate to reach out to your doctor and explore your options. There is hope and support available to help you on your path to parenthood.

Me: “wow I’m so excited for this event/activity/vacation!!”
My body: *gives me a period that only lasts the duration of the event/activity/vacation for the sole purpose of making me uncomfortable*
Me: “…thanks. Do I at-least get to ovulate?”
My body: “No.”
