Felix found Annette hidden behind a pillar in the cathedral, face buried into her knees in an attempt to muffle her sobs. His heart broke slightly just looking at her, distressed as she was.
"Annie?" He kept his voice quiet, as gentle as he was capable of being. She looked so vulnerable when she looked up, and she tried to wipe her tears as she let out a sound somewhere between a laugh and a sob.
"Oh, Felix," she said, trying to smile up at him. "Did you need me for something?" Felix ignored her question, sitting beside her and wrapping her in a hug. She stiffened briefly before relaxing into his grip. "I guess I can't fool you, huh?"
"If you were trying to fool me, you were doing a pretty shit job at it," Felix murmured. "What's wrong?"
"Oh, it's nothing," Annette said, still trying to hide her emotions behind a smile. "Don't worry about me."
Felix pulled back slightly, looking into Annette's eyes. "I'm always going to worry about you, Annie. You don't have to tell me what's wrong or what happened, but I'm going to stay here until you're actually feeling better."
Annette was quiet for a while, and Felix started to gently card his fingers through her hair. He felt her relax minutely, and she buried her face in his shoulder.
"It was father," she said, voice breaking. "He- he called for me, to come here, and he gave me a doll, like the ones he used to make for me as a little girl and then just... left. And I just- it's too late for that sort of thing. It's been nine years; it's far too late for that. And yet I just- I want so badly to cling to it, Felix. I don't know what to do."
He pulled her tighter to him, anger surging through him. He hated Gilbert, he really did. He had no right to leave Annette, had no right to turn his back to her time and time again. "He didn't give you enough. He didn't give you nearly enough. You deserve so much better than him." He felt her shudder against him, and gently rubbed circles into her back. "You can cry, Annette. You're allowed to cry. You're safe."
That broke the dam, it seemed, as a sob immediately followed his words. He held her as she cried, gently rubbing what he hoped were soothing circles into her back.
Her cries quieted after a while, the two of them sitting on the floor of the cathedral wrapped in each others arms. A comfortable blanket of silence fell over them, content to bask in each others presence for a while.
"Could you sing to me?" Annette asked after a while, quiet and almost timid in her request.
Felix smiled softly, kissing her forehead. "Just this once." A lie, he knew - he'd do whatever she asked of him - but one she was in on.
And so he sung her lullabyes from his childhood and songs he had helped her write late into the night.

no because felix makes me so sad
think about it: in three hopes, he only knows he’s stepping up to become duke for four years. he’s only prepared for it for four years, and then he’s made duke as dimitri ascends the throne
like the title of duke is a lot of pressure to put on any 17 y/o, forget a 17 y/o who was only informed that he would be duke four years beforehand
