Okay okay so Nikola very obviously Slavic coded, I think Russian bc he’s immune to the cold lol like in Luna’s interlude he’s watching Lucia train in the snow in nothing but a SUIT. That out of the way

A friend suggested that Hassen is Pakistani American and honestly? I can get behind that. I do think he’s only half tho bc this guy is a white man 💀 I’m sorry but being raised in an orphanage did not help him.

Nobody in command can cook. Absolutely nobody. Except for Celica. Bc that girl can do everything

I also think that Celica can speak like five different languages. She’s just built like that

I think it’d be funny if Celica is trying to explain something and she just blanks and forgets how to explain it in all five languages.

Nikola gains an accent when he’s really angry. It’s like a scale the angrier he gets the more Russian he gets. (idk but personally I gain a weird Filipino accent when I’m frustrated does this happen to anyone else?) If anyone hears him yelling in Russian they better hide because Nikola does not yell

Oh yeah and on that, I don’t think Nikola yells. Yes he’s very menacing and scary and you know when he’s mad, but he never yells. And it’s because he has a nice, tight lid and control over his emotions. Basically you REALLY have to screw up in order for him to yell at you.

Hassen is scary for a different reason and that is that he’s super patient. When he’s mad he’s twice as a scary because once again, you have to really fuck up. He can tolerate A LOT but the scariest thing in the world is an angry Hassen because it’s probably very justifiable

I think this is somewhat in part to him actually being rather cunning. I think he can be quite manipulative as well and that’s where he gets the patience from

Asimov canonically having an attitude is kinda funny to me. Everyone else is stepping on eggshells around the president and commander but Asimov’s unhinged ass is out here like “Uh yeah, so here’s the thing; you’re fucking wrong”

I think the little nerd is feisty and he’s a a little smug about it because he knows that he’s usually right

I genuinely think Hassen and Nikola are friends. You can pry this from my cold dead hands but they’ve known each other forever and they are both the leaders of the Kurono hate club. They trust each other so much I just know it

Nikola has siblings and they’re all high ranking Kurono members

Nikola strikes me as a rich boy that was funnelled into politics and shady business by his parents. Idk he gives that vibe

Asimov has a sweet tooth. Maybe because it helps him stay awake idk.

Hassen keeps alcohol in his office. It’s not even like a nice wine or anything it’s just cheap beer

Asimov has a dark sense of humour. I just feel like he cracks some very out of pocket jokes sometimes

I know Hassen is good with kids it is written all over him

I like to think that surprisingly, Asimov is too. Hey, kids LOVE cool science he would be a neat baby sitter and they’d make one of those little baking sofa volcanoes or smth

Celica is not. She has no idea how to deal with the little suckers but they all like her anyways bc funny lady say funny words

I’m sorry but Nikola is last place here I don’t think he can deal with kids at all 💀 I feel like it could mostly be rooted in his guilt from helping Kurono get actual children to experiment on. Yeah he just cannot with children. He doesn’t hate them though

Week 8 Overview

Happy Saturday! I had a bit of a headache yesterday and got home and immediately slept it off for twelve hour after dinner lmao. So here’s my weekly overview post now: 

Successes this week:

We took our Mid-Module II exam yesterday and I think I did pretty well on it!

Got a 91.67% on the Lesson 12 Vocab Quiz (which not gonna lie I’m a little mad about because I would’ve gotten a higher grade had I remembered to use accusative case with certain sentences. Whatever it’s fine) 

I think I’ve created a pretty good study routine

Things I need to work on:

Verb conjugations my beloathed 

In general just studying stuff, but I’ll get more into specifics in the “plans for this weekend” part of the post. The course is definitely getting faster paced but I’m kind of liking it lol

Plans for this weekend: 

Memorize lesson 13 vocab AND lesson 14 vocab because I want to be super duper on top of vocab again like I was for the first few lessons!!!

Memorize all the verb conjugations, for lesson 13 and from the ones before, and maybe if I’m feeling feisty, the ones from the next lesson too

I wanted to make some picture flashcards if I had time but that’s not a huge priority

I also wanted to start a Duolingo streak again. I can do that, I just need to remind myself that only a little Duolingo a day is enough since I’m already getting a huge amount of Russian instruction outside of it 

I’m in the mood to get a loooot of studying done this weekend so let’s see how it goes! That’s that for Week 8. 1/6th of the way through :O!!!

An Unlikely Teammate, but Welcomed Nonetheless

La Squadra x Reader (Fem), SFW

(A/N: just for the record here I’m not American and didn’t actually know what a valley girl was until I looked it up. I love the concept but just wanted to warn you about this incase I’ve gotten the wrong idea from my research)

Formaggio- it’s love at first sight. Formaggio practically bursts out laughing the second he hears your voice but he swears he means it in the best possible way. He finds you a real charmer, and since his style of speech tends to be more casual too it’s easy for the two of you to converse. You’ll be fast friends without a doubt.

Illuso- let’s face facts, you could insert him into a group of Valley Girls and he would fit right in. He just would. For this reason, Illuso will also click well with you. However, he also picks up on how funny your accent sounds when you get angry, so he starts annoying you on purpose just to hear more of it. Some of the scenes you make get everyone laughing. He might be an ass, but you soon get used to it and come to like him.

Prosciutto- oh Lordy lord. Things are off to a... difficult start, let’s say. Prosciutto is immediately off put by the unprofessionalism and pettiness he can hear seeping from your voice. That will never do around here, and you need to fix your attitude! (Yes, Prosciutto is aware of the shambling manchildren that make up the rest of this squad but facing that fact scares him). But over time he comes to see that you are just as competent an assassin as him. Perhaps he shouldn’t judge so much from first impressions, he wonders. It’s dangerous, for someone like him.

Pesci- aww, your voice is really cute! Also, an American? The rest of his team all had similar stories to tell of their childhoods, most of them very miserable, but regardless of whether that’s the case for you perhaps you might have some different experiences to share from your life across the Atlantic. Your voice is unique but soothing, regardless of how abrasive the others say it is. He likes to hear you ramble.

Melone- hm... definitely his type. Your voice conveys a feistiness and energy he adores in women, so he’s eager to learn more about you. His interest you is nothing to be concerned about; he would never harm a teammate! So although the others may get weird about it when you spend time together, your friendship is actually pretty good and wholesome. Though it could always lead to something more if you’re interested.

Your way of speech irks him, to put it mildly. Ghiaccio has no issue with you speaking your native English around the base (since it’s either that or your broken Italian) but can’t you at least speak the normal, unfucked version of the already utterly stupid language? Regardless of the topic he’s going to call you out on every choice of wording you make that annoys him. What stops him in the end? He just gets tired. It’s clear you aren’t going to stop and he honestly doesn’t have the energy for it. Weird words aside, you’re pretty cool, he guesses.

Risotto- not being the sort to call people out on their personal features unless relevant to the matter at hand, Risotto makes no mention of your strange dialect, simply speaking to you as he would anyone else. To someone watching you interact from the outside, it’s hilarious: Risotto’s deep, solemn, authorative tone against your perky, upticked, jittery one, just having a casual chat about murder.

Sorbet- a strange mix between Risotto and Ghiaccio’s reactions. Although he calls you out on some of your stranger choices of dialogue they don’t really bother him that much. To him, it’s just a little quirk he’ll occasionally tease you about. “Come on carina, can you tell me again without saying ‘like’? Could we go a full three minutes without you saying it again? Oh, I know you can do it!” He’ll sometimes say to you, followed by a short, rare laugh.

Gelato- he gets you. Coming from the far north of Italy and having Russians, the French and a couple English folks in his family tree, Gelato has frequently been told his accent is weird by native Italian speakers, especially now he lives down in Naples. He finds your accent funny in the best possible way, and will often make atrocious attempts at mimicking it, much to your and Sorbet’s amusement.

okay so i just got done with a dnd session and i can’t stop feeling giddy about it for one reason in particular.

if you’d like to read about it, it’s under the cut. it might be a bit long cuz i get too excited over the littlest shit.

so, my character, vidor, is a minotaur barbarian who is not the smartest but very kind and cares a lot about a lot of people. something that he has been saying over and over again is “i am not a magic man.” “i don’t know magic.” “i don’t cast spells” because well... he mechanically can’t (and tends to beat himself up over it.) despite that though, he’s very interested in magic and a lot of his other party members are spell casters. he doesn’t have the stats to start taking levels in any of the main spell casting classes, so i’ve mostly put off trying to multiclass just yet.

BUT! during today’s session, after we “liberated” a town of warforged, (it’s a long story) we explored the town and found a lot of magic items including two magic tattoo sets and two spell scrolls. vidor and the warlock of the party, ren, couldn’t find out what the first scroll was (knew it was high level but nothing else) but the second scroll drew vidor’s attention. it was a find familiar scroll that allowed familiars who have had companions that died to be repurposed for other spell casters to have. i’ve always wanted to give vidor an animal companion but never got around to asking the dm about it so vidor and i were very excited about trying out this spell (and nobody else in the party needed/wanted a familiar)

with some help from ren (albeit, a little shy about asking), they were able to cast the spell! after waiting a bit, a goose appeared. yep. a goose. a very feisty goose who has a habit of trying to steal vidor’s hand-axe and wandering away. but he was so happy to be able to cast magic. so so so happy to cast magic. i was genuinely beaming and smiling at his new little friend (now named Volga, after an area in russia where tula fighting geese are native to since minotaurs in this world have heavy russian accents).

after that session we leveled up to level 10 and since vidor is an ancestral guardian barbarian, he is now able to cast certain spells without spell components. and i could not be more excited for him. all his life, being never able to cast magic and not asking for help about it because he thought he couldn’t due to something wrong with him. not wise enough to be a cleric, not charismatic enough to be a sorcerer, and definitely not intelligent enough to be a wizard. all he thought he could do good enough to not get killed was hit and throw himself into the heat of battle to protect people. now, with help from his patient (and a little mischievous) friends, he is able to do something that he never thought he could ever do. 

i dunno. i just wanna share this beautiful moment and my thoughts on it. after level 10, i want to take levels in paladin just so i can explore his investment into magic in mixture of his fighting style. i never thought i’d love this little character i made as a “don’t get attached and just play or else you’ll get disappointed.”

thems the facts

the youngest of four children with three older brothers.

her parents met in russia. her mom was an american student studying abroad on an exchange program and met her dad at uni and they fell hard and fast. after graduation he basically followed her back to the states

while her dad was on track to become a professor in the russia, school was much more expensive and competitive in america and his english was pretty much non existent. he took a job working construction to hopefully save enough to finish his education but as the kids started coming around it became more of a pipe dream then a reality for him

mom got a job as a language teacher

all the kids speak russian bc both parents speak it and it’s just easier for their dad bc it’s his native language

two of her brothers work in the trades. hvac and a mechanic. the youngest brother, aleksandr and the closest to eva played soccer all the way through college but it wasn’t enough to land him a professional contract so he’s teaching

eva is studying architecture and girl is not only passionate but damn good at it

she spent years dancing growing up and was actually pretty good at it but her passion lies with design and architecture

she’s basically a combination of soft girl and feisty. she’s vivacious and full of life but she has no problem standing up for herself (3 brothers ppl) or telling someone theyre being a dick.

Hdbdjsvsu i grinned like an idiot at ur response lolol. Like that made me so happy (*/ω＼) Also I very much agree that having someone fiesty instead of mellow is definitely a fun change. She was actually the first grumpy/fiesty main character i created and im IN LOVE with it lolol

Ah, yes, Rigby and Saeyoung having a bit of Genius Rivalry. Luckily for them, they don't overlap entirely. He seems to gear more towards robotics and whatnot, which she does not. She likes making gadgets and weapons and techy suits and some seriously sci-fi stuff lmao.

Oh, she's also a hacker, a very good one at that, although it's not her primary job so I'd say she's probably just below Saeyoung in skill level.

Here's the first thing I didn't mention, the thing that caused her parents to keep her home most of the time: She has powers. It's not too much of a rarity in her universe, but its still the minority of the population, and it's best to keep the fact that you have powers on the down-low as much as possible. Her powers are reactive adaptation, coupled with enhanced strength. Her primary active adaptation is "steel" appendages such as wings. The steel-like organic material is her go-to.

Ever since she was 14, almost 15, she's been a vigilante hero, with her best (and first) friend Ryder, whom she met that same year. He also has powers, and eventually she revealed her powers to him because he was already doing the superhero stuff. And she was bored. Wanted in on it.

Deviant, she goes by, and it's where her cocky side comes out. Overconfident, cocky, witty, along with her usual demeanor. She loves pissing off her opponent, just like she loves pissing off her cousin, who takes care of her at that age.

Ah, right. Her parents, who are actually v good people and helped train her the best they could even without powers of their own, disappeared when she was 12. First her dad, called into work at HQ in Europe (they live in the U.S.), then her mom a month later, same deal, cos her dad couldnt handle the task on his own.

And then another month, and all communications stopped.

From there, it was practically Rigby's life goal to find them. She refused to believe they were dead. Long story short, they had no choice but to disappear, but were finally able to reunite when she was almost 19 years old. 7 years. She was just glad to have her parents back.

Nevertheless, though she would never admit it, she definitely has separation anxiety, and when she was still under her cousin's care, whenever he would leave on a business trip, it showed, though she tries to suppress it.

With her parents, came 2 new family members to be adopted into the family: Vasyl (m12) and Amara (f16). The reasoning behind this leads into an explanation on Rigby's work (and her parents' work), so I'll save that for later.

Rigby was a little upset at first, and it took her a while to get comfortable with not only the new siblings, but her parents themselves. However, she got close to Vasyl pretty fast, and now, at 22, she would put her life on the line without hesitation if it meant his safety and survival. She's stated that he's her favourite person lol.

Okay, one last thing: the whole fam is multilingual. Russian is her parents' first language, but her mom is like 1/4 american. Rigby considers both english and russian her first language, but would say english if she had to choose. By 22, she knows i think... 20 languages? Her powers affect the mind too -- quick learning and such (i did my research lol). So she knows so many damn languages lol.

You immediately sold it to me the minute that you said superpowers. You said wings and I said I'm simping.

She also seems too smart for her own good and sometimes that can be a tedious thing as well as a bad thing but it doesn't seem like it's that bad for her in that regard anyway. It sounds like she has a little too much fun with what she's doing out there. But, who hasn't been a little cocky and in over their head? Especially when you know you're smart and can whoop some ass like that? You shouldn't expect less from a teenager, I mean we've all read the comics, we know how that works.

I definitely find that character arc intriguing so it would be fun to see her pushed to her limits and how long she can hold up that feisty and brazen mask. Because, I know that we all can appreciate a character that's willing to go absolutely Wild, it can also be interesting to see how far they can be pushed before they absolutely lose it for real. That is to say, you don't really know someone until you know... circumstances put your back to the wall.

It's probably a good thing that she and Seven have different fixations because I imagine if they were working on the same thing that they would probably go mad with power. Because when you stick two people that know too much of the same thing together, well, neither can really figure out when to call it quits so they just keep working until they've invented, I don't know, time travel. When in reality they were supposed to be working on making popcorn or something. Nerds are impossibly incorrigible.

I got tasked to transcribe a 30-minute audio file - which would’ve been no problem to do on my own, since taking up journalism made me transcribe a shit-ton of interviews - but I was doing other tasks for other superiors as well which meant that I had to use a lifeline and tap a co-intern for help. I split the file up and told her I would transcribe the first 20 minutes, while she can take care of the last 10 minutes. I breezed through mine and finished in 45 minutes while multi-tasking, while I never got updates on her end. I kept waiting, and after an hour I asked for her progress and she said she was only 4 minutes in. At that point I was pretty annoyed at myself for giving away a task I thought I was too busy to finish on my own. A little later she messaged me and said she couldn’t understand what was said at the “7:25 minute mark” I was aghast. I was like, “Do you mean 27:25? I said I was going to take care of the first 20 minutes,” and it turns out she never even read my message of me splitting up our parts. I was pissssed as fuck, because she took so fucking long transcribing and it wasn’t even the right part I assigned her to, and because she committed my pet peeve of people not reading directions. Goldeneye - #24WeeksofBond

24 Weeks of Bond continues this week with Goldeneye.  Ask anybody who grew up with an N64 what their favorite Bond movie is.  I’d be willing to bet 9 out of 10 of those people will tell you this film.  I grew up with an N64, I knew the Goldeneye video game before I even knew it was a Bond Movie.  The Goldeneye N64 game was my introduction to James Bond.  Today, i feel like shouting from the mountain tops...I can now confidently say, that Goldeneye is my favorite Bond movie.  

Besides the incredible amount of nostalgia playing multi-player Goldeneye in the basement of my best friends house almost every day after school - this movie is gritty, dark, witty, complex, and full of “punch you in the gut intensity”.  Sean Bean plays 006, and it is the ultimate villain.  Who would be a bigger adversary to Bond, then Bond himself?  That’s how close 006 compares to 007.  This film is as close to Bond vs. Bond that we will ever see.  We also have the overtly sexual psychopath in Xenia Onotopp (Famke Janssen) and Boris Grishenko (Alan Cumming) a high level computer programmer and overall sleazy creep who uses “boobs” as his passwords.

It’s hard to top this cast of characters.  It doesn’t end with the bad guys either, we have our seductive Natalya Simonova, who isn’t the obvious “sex appeal” pick, which is nice.  When we first see her, she has a wool sweater on,  a “Karen” hair cut, and a voice lower than mine - but she gets her shit done and nobody is going to tell her no.  I love seeing Natalya boss Bond around, one of my favorite Bond girls for sure.  We also are introduced to the new M, Judi Dench.  Of course, with any new boss, there is chatter within the work force and M finds herself over hearing some of it.  I do wish we had some moment where M proves her trust, but it’s all well and good in the end because she’s Judi Dench, the best M ever...with all due respect to Bernard Lee of course.

This movie starts hot, with Bond bungee jumping off a giant dam in Russia.  He then infiltrates their military base where he meets up with his pal, 006 Alec Trevelyan.  We see them tackling this mission together, but Alec finds himself in trouble.  Bond decides to improv, and adjusts the timers to 3 minutes instead of 6 - but Alec gets killed despite following orders.  Bond is now pissed.  He manages to escape by driving off a cliff to catch a falling airplane.  

This is probably the most eye-rolling part of this movie.  I can suspend my disbelief more than most (I’m a pro wrestling fan), but this is just non-sense.  He manages to catch up to the nose diving airplane, get in, buckle up, adjust the rear view mirror, throw on some AC/DC for the road, and escape.  We see the bombs going off, Bond has completed this mystery mission. We never really find out what the mission was for.  I guess just to introduce us to Oromov and Trevelyan who will become key figures later on.

We come back from an intoxicating rendition of “Goldeneye” sung by Tina Turner, and we are now 9 years into the future.  Think of all the potential movies we missed out on in those 9 years!  We see Bond in Monaco being evaluated  where he meets a crazy speed demon who turns out to be Xenia.  Bond later goes to a casino where he find Xenia there and starts to realize that something troubling is brewing.  After further digging, he finds out she has a connection to the Janus Group - a crime syndicate who has an unknown leader.  Not really sure what Bond is doing in Monaco. Was he on holiday? Was he sent there for something in particular?

ANYWAY (thanks mom), Xenia ends up killing an admiral with her apparent titanium alloy thighs during a hot night and steals a “Tiger” helicopter that can withstand any sort of electro magnetic blast.  Bond doesn’t get to it in time, and the helicopter takes off.  Now Bond is really curious...and pissed. General Oromov from the opening and Xenia set off one of the Goldeneye satellites which trigger an electro magnetic pulse, destroying every type of computer generated device.  They then enlist the help of Boris, who had just hacked into the FBI security system all nonchalantly before having a cig.

The Goldeneye destroys the area and Oromov tries to cover it up by blaming it on British separatists.  But doesn’t realize that Natalya had survived the blast.  Bond now wants to meet thee Janus, and goes to see a russian mafia don who Bond has had history with and gets a meeting set up.  This is when we find out that Janus is actually Bond’s ole mate, Alec Trevelyan.  Bond is stunned and shaken.  9 years after he saw his death, here he is. Trevelyan notes that he didn’t account Bond improving and setting the timers for 3 minutes which burned half his face, and broke his heart. “007s loyalty is always to the mission...never to his friends”. Tear.

The plan is to set off another Goldeneye in London, creating a financial meltdown, putting England back into the stone age.  But now Bond has entered the fray, and is keen on throwing a wrench into the plans.  He does so...with a tank.  In one of the more entertaining chase scenes in Bond history, we see Bond chasing down Oromov with a bloody tank.  Destroying everything in his path, and finding time to adjust his tie in the process.  Man I love this scene.  Oromov is also another great character. Played by Gottfried John, Oromov is a desperate, corrupt General - trying to put on a front as head of Russia’s space division, but also keep Janus’ plans in tact.  With flask in hand, and sweating profusely, he has to tell Janus that Bond escaped.

Bond saves Natalya from the bad guys, yadda yadda yadda, SATELLITE FIGHT SCENE!!  Bond comes to blows with 006 on the second base where another Goldeneye detonator is being held.  This fight is so brutal and hard hitting that it really feels like Bond is fighting Bond.  These two, once friends, now bitter enemies.  Just watching this fight hurts.  And just when we think Bond is at a dead end, he kicks a lever for the ladder and drops all the way down to the tiniest platform on the bottom of the satellite, leaving himself with no room for error.  The fight continues on this tiny platform where we eventually see Bond kick Trevelyan off and grab his foot for a final farewell.

I don’t necessarily have a fear of heights, but I do have a fear of falling.  What happens next always leaves me with the feeling of my stomach being sucked up into my throat.  Bond has Trevelyan by the foot as he dangles thousands of feet in the air.  Alec finally looks up and says “For England, James”, then Bond says “STFU” and lets him go.  I get shivers just thinking about it.

Oh, did I mention this score??? The music that plays throughout this scene is heart pounding and really gets me going. There’s nothing like incredibly written fight music and Goldeneye has the cream of the crop.

There is just so much to love with “Goldeneye”.  But unfortunately for Pierce Brosnan, this movie will be his first and his best.  Goldeneye was such a tremendous success coming off a 6 year hiatus after “Licence To Kill”, that all Brosnan’s next films suffered because of it.  This film was so good because it was dark, had an unforgettable cast, and had a TOUCH of humor.  That scene where Bond goes to see Valentine is really all the humor you need - how about that Minnie Driver cameo? After this, I guess the writers went all in on the humor bit of it because the rest of the Brosnan catalog can be little more cartoony and goofy.  While I did enjoy “Tomorrow Never Dies” - it just does not compare to “Goldeneye”.

Pierce Brosnan is the perfect Bond for this era and this film in particular.  I just cannot imagine and older Timothy Dalton doing this film justice.  Goldeneye ushered in a new style of James Bond.  This film would be a taste of what was to come with the future Daniel Craig movies, and it provided an opportunity for a new generation of young, teenage movie goers to hop on board the Bond Band Wagon with the N64 video game.  It got me, that’s for sure.  This was the first Bond film I ever saw, and I’m proud to say that it is my favorite Bond movie ever.

Great review Sam, and I’m with you on this one. This is a fantastic Bond movie and one of my favorites, if not my favorite. I think I have seen this movie more times than any other (I think Casino Royale might be second). I’m pretty sure I had the VHS, and I think you and I watched it numerous times. (I think Joanna was getting sick of me quoting the movie when we were watching it since I knew all the lines.) This is the movie that really got me into Bond movies. The action, the plot, the twists all made this an excellent and entertaining installment in the Bond series. Makes me want to fire back up that ‘64 and get the rumble packs out!

I have been following along to these and have been giving them the Facebook like, but haven’t been commenting or watching along because honestly I could probably recite every Bond moving verbatim from start to finish. My earliest childhood memories (way, way earlier than any kid has a business being exposed to Bond) are of sitting with my Grandpa in his recliner while he munched popcorn and watched Bond. For better or for worse they are like a comfort food for me.

I say all of that to say this. Goldeneye is my favorite. I still remember watching it for the first time with Mark Kulig. We played the game and watched the movie more times than you’d think possible. The double cross, resurrection storyline. The characters. The cast is stacked. It all adds up so well and revived the franchise from some abysmal showings. I love this movie.

*cackles* Muwhahahahha. What if Bucky and Natasha were both former Russian figure skaters as teens but they moved to America cause they had enough of being treated so severely (the Red Room was a terrible company) and lost the love of figure skating but immediately fell in love with Hockey cause they were born for the ice. Skinny Punk Stevie with blue streaks in his hair and ends up in the penalty BOX ALOT.

Peggy and Jarvis both black mail Howard after Maria passes away and when Tony shows interest in figure skating they are all for it! Ilove your ideas sooooo much. A silly thing like that would be cute or the Olympics tell me more I want to hear what else you have. Maybe Rhodey and Pepper are fellow figure skaters and Nat knows Tony cause she has a crush on Pepper???            

I started to answer this on my phone and realized that nope, no, I needed to do this on my computer for reasons.

SKINNY PUNK STEVE who is small (mostly compared to everyone else around him on the ice) and feisty and you would never guess he’s got such a high PIM but oh boy. He’s never really pleased to be sent to the box but sometimes he’s very smug about it. Bucky despairs.

Bucky and Natasha could be cousins maybe and - oh man, BUCKY COULD HAVE PULLED A MALKIN MOLLY. lol - it’s basically out of a spy novel anyway, so you know, fitting. Natasha’s probably a figure skater, maybe she did the Olympics one year when younger, but her heart was always on hockey - played it with her cousin and his friends and was twice as vicious as any of them on the ice. (And twice as fast. Their friends learned quick not to allow Bucky and Nat on the same team because it was basically a slaughter of the other team.)

Natasha follows her cousin to America and the NHL because “like I’d let you go play hockey without me, fuck you, I’m going to be more famous than you just to spite you.”

(She makes sure Bucky doesn’t get too homesick and doesn’t make (too many) dumb life choices as a rookie. And also keeps his ego in check and him laughing when he needs it and basically is The Best, which Bucky tells everyone in interviews all the time.)

So you know, through one means or another Tony and Bucky meet - maybe the Olympics, but what do I really know about how that shit works lol, maybe some silly promotional event like in the video, a silly little fundraising event for some charity - maybe a charity for skating lessons for local low-income children, Bucky and Tony both wouldn’t be able to say no to that, and so they’d both be at that kind of thing. I could PROBABLY bullshit my way through that pretty well, or well enough. This is fanfic, there’s allowed to be a certain level of handwaviness.

HEY MOLLY WHAT IF MARIA WAS A FORMER FIGURE SKATING CHAMPION? AND TAUGHT TONY HOW TO SKATE? And you know, she passes (did she get sick? was it unexpected, an accident, an attack against the famous Starks, what??? Who knows, not me yet!), and maybe it’s for a year or two that Tony’s still with Howard, who does Not Handle It Well, and there’s Howard Stark’s A+ Parenting™ and that brings Jarvis and Peggy, besties as we got via MCU canon in Agent Carter, to basically blackmail Howard into letting one of them adopt Tony, it’s better that way, really Howard, now we can all be happier. And they realize that not only does Tony like skating, like his mama, but he’s GOOD at it, and he LOVES the fancy skaters on TV, LIKE MAMA, and at first they encourage it so he can feel closer to his mom which Tony does, but he also just plain enjoys it, the complex mix of skills and how sometimes it’s kind of like math, and look he loves it. And he’s good.

PEPPER IS ALSO ONE OF THE FIGURE SKATERS FOR THE EVENT, SHE GETS PAIRED UP WITH NAT. NAT IS VERY OKAY WITH THIS BECAUSE PEPPER IS HER GF, THEY MET WHEN SOMEONE HIT ON NAT AT A BAR AND SHE KNOCKED HIM ON HIS ASS AND PEPPER HAS BEEN HEARTEYES EVER SINCE. She does couples skates with Rhodey, but Rhodey’s retiring to pursue “an actual career to fit in with the rest of the world, Tony, you can’t skate forever are you even thinking about your future also my mom wants to know if you’re family’s joining us for Thanksgiving this year and if you don’t give me an answer by the end of the week I am giving her Peggy’s/Ana’s number, don’t think I won’t.” He still tags along, a few years older than Tony, knows people and has connections and “can’t you just be my agent or something honeybear, really” and Rhodey’s all “No, I want an ACTUAL JOB not what I do now but with money” which Tony thinks would be the best job but okay, whatever.

(Sam’s one of the team physicians for the hockey team, and he and Rhodey get a friendship going and Sam convinces Rhodey to go into physical therapy or something as a career - he already knows figure skating and figure skaters like the back of his hand, why not make use of that knowledge? And stay involved with a sport he loves without having to keep performing?)

So anyway, Nat and Pepper are already girlfriends, and Nat has met Tony only a few times, heard about him a lot more, and she never thought about him in regards to her cousin but within five minutes of them meeting she’s like “Ah-HA! Pepper, I know what we’re gonna do today!”

(Not that they really have to do much, because that bickering between Bucky and Tony definitely is not hate-fueled, and Nat would bet the Hart that Bucky is well aware of that, but is too dumb to realize that chirping is not always the most straightforward method of flirting omfg these hockey idiot boys she’s surrounded with Pepper, honestly.)

Stereotypes

I’m sick of them.  I’m sick to death of them.  If I see one more show, movie, or book with a stereotype of a minority in it, I will scream and pretend that piece of garbage doesn’t exist.  If you have to add a commonly used adjective to your minority to describe it (one you’ve seen used previously), you are writing a stereotype.  I have dropped show after show after show because of this.  At this point I just watch silly videos online, because almost every show has this, with the exception of The Flash, because that show is apparently being written by people who actually interact with minorities.  The story line may be a little hackneyed, but the minority characters are gold.  And people need to take a page from its book, because fucking hell it’s beautiful.  

If I can watch a movie/show or read a book with a minority, and predict exactly how they will behave, that thing will be dead to me.  

Example: I was so excited to read a Christopher Moore book.  Super excited.  I’d heard so many good things about Lamb.  Everybody I knew loved it.  Well, I wanted to read a horror story, and he had written a horror comedy called A Dirty Job.  This book was set in San Fran’s Chinatown district.  The main character, a white male, was written with some depth (goofy, beta male stupidity, but some depth).  His lesbian sister was written as just that.  Her entire story line revolved around her being a lesbian.  Not her as a person, but just her as a lesbian.  Okay, I said, and continued on.  His Chinese landlady spoke in broken English, stole his many pets to eat them, and screamed in Cantonese at him.  His female Russian neighbor constantly talked about fighting bears.  The one black guy in the book, who could also sense the dead, always dressed like a pimp, is called “Minty Fresh”, and pretends to be gay to lure in gay men to buy all his Cher albums.  Also, the main character is constantly “talking black” to him.  He’s also super physically strong.  His creepy fellow shop keeper is constantly searching for “desperate Filipina girls” on dating websites and fetisizes them.  There’s some ugly “trans humor” attached to it that makes me cringe.  And the women are all fuckpuppets.  One of the female souls gets attached to her breast implants.  

Do you see the problem here?  I will never read another fucking book by this author, because the method by which he wrote his minority characters was stunningly bad.  Not all black men have to be big, burly pimps dressed in pimp suits.  Not all Asian people “eat dog”.  I guess he was trying to throw you off the scent with the Russian lady and “wrestling bears”, but fuck man, you don’t make something better by doubling down on it.  And if you’re trying to comment on stereotypes, you have to subvert them in a well-written way.  This author does not do that in the least.  All he needed was the sexed up, saucy Latina character with her big hips and “feisty attitude”.  Thank god there was no “sassy Black woman”, or the many, many stereotypes depicting Black women as either whores, mammies, or non-sexed magical characters for the main character’s benefit (though Minty did come off as a bit of a magical negro character to help guide the story line).  Also, if the main character hadn’t been portrayed as a “beta male”, I’m sure there would have been some white savior complex a la every main white male character Hollywood throws in with a bunch of minority characters.

Well, I am talking about minority stereotypes and the inherent racism therein, so it makes sense to talk about the opposite problem, y’know?  You can’t improve upon a problem without talking about the problem.  Also, stop getting cringey when somebody talks about white characters and their juxtaposition with minority characters in pieces of entertainment.  The troupes are already proven and they are well-worn.  Besides, I’m talking about representation, and it matters.  White characters get amazing representation with depth, personality, romance, wants, goals, dreams, and hopes for their future.  All I want is to see is that with minority characters, which rarely happens unless it’s written by a minority.  And then if it’s a movie, expect a slave narrative, which I pretty much will not watch (#nomoreslavenarratives).

Example: While I did enjoy the movie Logan (went to the theatre and everything), its WSC was off the scales.  I still enjoyed it, but why?  And if anybody rolls their eyes at me mentioning this, just take a look at the way Hollywood furthers this standard.  Avatar, The Help, The Blind Side, The Last Samurai, Dangerous Minds, etc.  Hell, martial arts films made by Hollywood have a straight up complex when it comes to the Asian master who teaches the non-Asian to fight and be the best there ever was.  I can direct you to Iron Fist, the Netflix show that does this, but everybody says, “Hey man, that was the original story!”  Okay, but that’s actually not better.  The fact that this has been going on forever doesn’t make it excusable.  The movie Man of Tai Chi doesn’t exactly endear me to the concept, either.  And I won’t even go into everything wrong with that horrific Dragonball movie.  

And so you know I’m not pulling this out of my ass.

All I’m saying is this: I just want to see some realistic depictions of minorities in Hollywood and beyond.  I’m sick of the stereotypes.  I’m sick of being super excited to watch or read something, only to be hit over the head with stereotypes anytime a minority is introduced.  And I’m also sick of people refusing to even write minorities in lead parts, because they don’t want to offend or have “tokens”.  As Tim Burton put it, “Nowadays, people are talking about it [diversity] more ... things either call for things, or they don’t. I remember back when I was a child watching The Brady Bunch and they started to get all politically correct. Like, OK, let’s have an Asian child and a black. I used to get more offended by that than just… I grew up watching blaxploitation movies, right? And I said, that’s great. I didn’t go like, OK, there should be more white people in these movies.”

First of all, lol.  This is why I haven’t watched a Tim Burton film since he fucked up Sweeney Todd.  Second, “a black”?  Blaxploitation films?  Oh man.  Third, minorities aren’t just people you sprinkle in stories for the sake of diversity.  If you have a diverse group of friends, they aren’t there just because you “sprinkled them in”.  You have them because you like them and what they bring to the table as human beings.  You have friends from different backgrounds, because you have things in common.  It’s those commonalities that cause you to come together and experience life.  Why people who write these scripts and screenplays and books seem to completely forget the real people they know in real life when they put pen to paper is beyond me.  If you have black friends, are they are sexless mammies who are magical negroes that merely exist in your life to further your story?  Are they all thieves or pimps or gangstas who have at some point involved themselves in criminal activity?  Do the young black women you know all resort to drugs or having a bunch of kids for child support or welfare?  Are they turning tricks?  Are the guys all players who fuck women and leave them with kids?  Are the black women in your life all neck-swiveling Shaniquas who wag their fingers and eat fried chicken and talk about “oh no you didn’t!”  

I certainly hope none of the people I know who write would try to shove me in any of those boxes, because I don’t fit in any of them.  I’m childless, in a long term relationshipand have hopes and dreams and a love of creativity, writing, and books.  I also have mental illnesses that affect my ability to be social and end up staying at home all day trying to parse my own reality while struggling with existential dread and nihilism.  I have the type of personality that would never be attributed to a black woman in many scenarios.  I’m not strong and independent--I’m a sad, depressed girl with anxiety issues who spends her time fumbling through life while trying to be successful and artistic.  That black girl never gets written, and it’s a shame.  That Korean/Chinese/Filipino/Indonesian girl never gets written.  That Latina girl never gets written.  That Indian girl never gets written.  Same with minority guys.  That guy, as a minority, never gets written, and I know so many going through the same ups and downs as me.

Minority characters are fucking human.  When I see us get written as humans in a movie or show or book, I inhale it and support it with all my might.  I will stan for these things.  I get excited about them.  I tell everybody about any piece of entertainment that does this and does it right.  And if you don’t know how to do it (I’m looking at you, again, Hollywood), then just write a character and make them a minority second.  Again, take a page from The Flash, who does this marvelously.  They wrote people first, and minorities second.  Did they have some slip ups (the absent mother who becomes a drug addict arc for Iris West), yes.  And it was stupid.  Did they make up with it with Iris’s brother in a way when they introduced Kid Flash?  Absolutely, and his character is awesome.  He was a little hotheaded at the beginning, but when they found his voice and disposed of certain stereotypical aspect (illegal drag racing), it was much better.  And really?  Even the drag racing played into him becoming Kid Flash due to his motivation for speed.  Even the mild stereotypes made some sense.  He’s a college student now with a job and a loving family, and that makes me so happy.  Why can’t more shows and movies do this?  Why is this so hard?  Joe West is a hard-working detective in the show and a black father who supports his kids.  He doesn’t have some edgy past with drugs and other crap.  He’s just ... amazing.  Why is that so hard?

Why is this so hard to comprehend?  I’m not complaining to be controversial or aggressive or mean or hateful (though many will obviously see that, regardless of how politely I structure my argument simply because I am mentioning race).  I’m complaining about it because I am none of these stereotypes, nobody I know or love are these stereotypes, and nobody I’m around are purely and only these stereotypes.  Whether or not you choose to believe that “stereotypes come from somewhere”, those same stereotypes can be found in any group of people.  So why are they only attributed to some and not others?  Or, if they are attributed to others, why do those others get to redeem themselves while the minorities who have these stereotypes don’t?  That’s where my frustration lies.

Tonight. April 11

Today is my parents 25th wedding anniversary. My parents took the day off. I went to my first hour. A CNA class. I'd probably like the class because it is very interesting But the teacher is very very annoying. She bugs me and I dislike her a lot. I need to figure out why. After that class I went home and helped bring lindy my cat to the vet. Lindy is a dark tabby cat. She's an indoor/outdoor cat so she needs her rabies shot. And her nails clipped. We usually clip her nails but it's a 2 man job. She's a feisty girl. She had her front claws. And she can hold a grudge. We found out her kidneys are slowly slowly slowly getting worse. She's reverted to being a little camel. She drinks and drinks and drinks. We have a cup of water sitting on the floor of every bathroom. We have 3 bathrooms. And her water dish and all our cups. She always steals a drink. She's old. Like 17 years old. As of yesterday. And she is a bit pudgy. But that's ok. I love her with every fiber in my body. After that I went back to school for 3rd hour. We did an interactive lab. It was pretty fun. Then I went to work. I work at gearharts floral and gift. I make arrangements and clean. Today we unboxed a large shipment of Easter plants. And unpackaged multiple boxes of merchandise. I learned how to and made 3 wristlets. For the P.A.L.S prom. Their a special needs group in town. Then I left to go to gym. My last hour of the day. Before I went back to school. I put gas in my truck. I drive a tan doge Dakota from 2004. It's worn out and rust. And I'm always cursing at it for it's flaws. But I love that truck. A lot. My dad gave it to me when I got my drivers license. It used to be His truck. And I have a lot of good memories with it. I put $20 in the tank. And I bought a Twix for me and pretzel M&M's for Miranda. We have gym together and we aren't really there to get fit. We just want to graduate. We always try to leave as early as possible. But today we stayed the full time. Then I went back to work. And made bouts to match the wristlets for the prom. Then cleaned. Then my boss made the 25 rose bouquet my dad had ordered for my mom. While she did that I made and orange poppy and white alstro. Arrangement for the cooler. And an arrangement for my parents. It was a rectangular light turquoise dish. That could be mounted in the wall. I put 2 succulents and peach, orange, yellow, and white Renocculous. I think I spelt it wrong. But. That's ok. It was worth the cost. I delivered them home when I got off work. And mom and dad loved them. They ate cheese burgers and bacon for dinner. And since Easter is coming up my dad made boulka buns. We're Russian and we take Easter very seriously lol. I don't eat mean so I are 3 boulkas and some cashews. I watched the first episode of 13 reasons why. Everyone is raving about it. It's a Netflix series. I found out my boyfriend ray is out of town today. He went 3 hours away. And won't be back till tomorrow ...?im a little upset because he never plans anything and when he does they always change. So I'm gonna wait and see I guess. Whatever. Easter is this Sunday and I'm pretty excited. I really don't like getting gifts. It makes me feel weird. But it's ok. I bought 2inch swede yellow shoes and a multi colored floral dress. I just hope everything goes ok...

1. Does any part of your body ache right now? Not at the moment, but I will say that I’m now sporting several gashes on my arms and fingers thanks to Cooper’s feisty teeth. His grip is a lot firmer now so there’ve been a few times where he was able to grab onto my skin harder than I expected while we played. 2. How do you like your steak? Barely cooked. Blood oozing once I cut into it and all that. 3. Which bone did you last break? I haven’t broken a bone before. 4. How long is your break at work? Back in my internship, we had an hour for lunch and then we were allowed 30 minutes to take a nap. That was awesome to find out, that my boss would give her employees nap time :) The office lights were all turned off and I would even be told off if they caught me working. 5. What did you do over Christmas break? How about spring break? We don’t have spring break. For Christmas I mostly stayed off of social media. Gabie allowed me to open my presents earlier than the 24th because she got me painting stuff and she wanted me to have something to do before Christmas, which is the period where I get most anxious and depressed. Then for Christmas my siblings and I got a Switch from our parents, so most of post-Christmas was spent getting acquainted with it.

6. Do you know anyone named Jake? My fact-checking instructor was a Jake and I absolutely hated his guts. I really don’t like it when a teacher says shit like “I could very much fail you all right now” and says it proudly, and I don’t like how he refused to help and correct us in our articles just because “what [we’re] supposed to do was already covered in a past lecture and [we] should know better.” That’s why we’re enrolled in your class dumbass. We want to learn, but we’re bound to make mistakes too. Anyway, that was four months of pure hell. 7. What’s your favorite thing to bake? I don’t bake a lot but baking cookies has always been nostalgic for me. I love when I get to do it with friends or when my dad allows me to help out in the kitchen. 8. Favorite kind of cake and favorite kind of frosting? Cheesecake. My favorite frosting is either cream cheese or chocolate, especially on my cupcakes.

9. Do you know someone who is fake? Most of the popular girls in my high school were fake but idk, they’ve since seemed genuine in the few times I talked to some of them throughout college. 10. Which lake is closest to you, geographically? Taal. 11. How would you like to make a difference in the world? Ending up the complete opposite of my mom. I just want to prove that some kids don’t always end up the same as the shitty environment they were brought up in. 12. When’s the last time you used a rake? Maybe in high school? We’d have special days where we were assigned to help our janitors and other auxiliary staff ~as a way of saying thanks~ and it’s likely I used a rake at least once. 13. What would you like to take a class in? If I could, I’d take all the history courses that exist. But other than that, I’d love to take a class that covered different countries’ cultures. It was too late when I found out my school has a department that offers classes that taught Japanese, Turkish, Russian, etc. cultures, so that’s a bummer. 14. Have you ever been to a wake before? Yes, a handful. I’ve been to the wake of the relative of my dad’s friend, Sophie, my grandfather...Nacho’s was the most recent. 15. Have you ever used the phrase “for Pete’s sake?!” Maybe once or twice. I’ve gone with its more inappropriate sibling, for fuck’s sake far more often. 16. When’s the last time you felt wide awake? Saturday evening. 17. Do you know how to change the brakes on your car? No. I always forget that you can do that, lol. 18. Do you enjoy listening to Drake? Sure, especially his songs that came out while I was in high school so from 2012-2016. Again, nostalgia just hits differently when it comes to his older songs. 19. When’s the last time you’ve seen snowflakes? Never. 20. Have you ever been called a flake before? I don’t think so, no. 21. When’s the last time you felt your body quake? Two days ago. I walked into the kitchen as my dad was kicking away a ball of dust and I thought it was a rat, so my whole body shuddered and shook lol 22. Favorite type of milkshake? Anything unhealthily sweet. 23. Do you ever try to shake something in order to get it to work again? That’s how I was when I still used TV remotes. I don’t shake things as much anymore. 24. Are you afraid of snakes? Only venomous ones, and ones that can swallow humans alive. I’m not scared of all snakes, in fact I’ve held a few and put them around me in the past. 25. Has your life ever been at stake before? Not that I can recall. 26. Have you ever had to do picture retake at school? I don’t know what this means since we don’t use this exact term, but I’ve needed my college ID re-done TWICE because I also ended up losing my replacement ID haha. In the end, my mom ended up finding my actual original ID just hiding in one of my bags. 27. Are remakes of things better, or the originals? Either have the potential to be better, it’s not black-or-white. Like I’ll always prefer the original 1976 Carrie movie, but I know that the most recent adaptation of Little Women got very good reviews too. 28. Do you call them hotcakes or pancakes? Pancakes. 29. Do you prefer cupcakes or muffins? Cupcakes. 30. What’s the last mistake you made? I shared an article about an update on Naya Rivera but I didn’t notice until after sharing it that it came from TMZ, and we all know how shittily they handed Kobe Bryant’s death. Immediately deleted my post after seeing that no other news outlet had confirmed that it was her body that was found.

Still, the team in charge of finding her in the lake confirmed that it was her a few hours after the TMZ report came out. I’m absolutely gutted. 31. What activity would you like to partake in right now? Any activity that would involve going outside. 32. Have you ever had a teacake before? How about a clambake? I’ve had neither. Clambake looks super appetizing though. It reminds me of a seafood paella that’s served at a local Fil-Mex place I love going to :) 33. What is one of your keepsakes? A Ferrari keychain that JM gave me and our other orgmates as a souvenir from his trip to Singapore to watch the Grand Prix last year. 34. Do you like cornflakes? They’re okay. I’d rather eat them as it is though, and not as a cereal. 35. Have you ever made a fruitcake before? Nope. 36. Do you like strawberry shortcake? How about coffeecake? I’ve had a few slices of coffee cake before. 37. Who’s the last person you gave a handshake to? Probably one of the applicants in our org. 38. Favorite flavor of cheesecake? Oreo! And New York-style. 39. Have you ever felt an earthquake before? Yes. Nothing too extreme though, like no books falling off the shelves or anything like that. They were strong enough for it to be just noticeable.
