Ok imagine rai after the leonardo show is like we need another historical period drama but instead of a renaissance one they decided to do one of ancient rome + it's shows Mark Antony with his two brothers, Curio, Fulvia, his 15+ kids, Cleopatra, Cytheris, his full story from start to finish and it's plutarch's Antony. I just want it so bad

not to be dramatic but i would LITERALLY DIE!!!! i really don’t know why no one’s done an antony biopic/miniseries yet, he’s objectively one of the most entertaining figures from ancient rome (also clodius, why tf has no one gotten on that yet, and also fulvia is a fucking badass why has no one gotten on THAT yet either)

JKHSDJFHG ME!!! and my exact journey too, at first with the giuliano/simonetta story i found it dull but otherwise felt neutral about it, but after so many rewatches by now it just annoys me SO much lmao eventually i’ll get to the point where i start skipping all their scenes when i rewatch

I've just realised Francesco is the medici equivalent to castiel from spn; amazing hair (cas' season 4 hair specifically *chef's kiss*), angelic smiles, is in love with a dumbass bisexual himbo (lorenzo & dean respectively), so many issues with family bar that one sibling they're ride or die for, legit stole the show, most attractive male cast member (tho cas is tied with dean), the problem child, has a terrible "father" (guy who raised them) figure, does things for the right reasons but then awful consequences, legit has done nothing wrong ever, angels who make smile, angels who deserved hugs, too powerful for the show, will cut a b-, they both deserved better & happier lives... I don't think you've watched it but you're the only person I know who's watched medici that I can talk about the similarities from Francescos end & be understood, sorry

i’ve never watched spn and everything i know about it was learned against my will and the mere sight of the characters’ names triggers my fight or flight response jksdfg But i’m glad you’ve thought of some parallels you enjoy! maybe there’s someone out there who’s seen both shows and can hit you up to discuss!

I'm a simple woman, I want is TV show putting mark Antony, his like 15? Kids/step kids, Cleopatra, Octavia, Octavian, etc into a modern like a banking setting (your medici aus have made me fall in love with that idea) + Octavia just wants a break+ raise the kids, Octavian wants to destroy 1, Antony + 2, Cleopatra's bank because rivals+ he's bitter, Iullus + Julia are Romeo+Juliet/Francesco+Lorenzo (without the death), Cleopatra runs the world + Antony is just Jake Peralta going that's my wife!

2: plus slowburn Juba + Selene, Marcellus being bffs with Alexander + all round just giving Octavian migraines, Agrippa being ride or die for Octavian but being 1110% done with him at the same time. Julia + Marcellus being the reason Octavian is going bald, Antyllus + Caesarian being college students who make bets on how badly things will go when the ENTIRE family get together (Octavian included for Octavia). Alexander+Marcellus fakedate to mess with his dad + his uncle only to find out no one

3, but Antony + Octavian are surprised/shocked about it. It lead to Octavia slapping both her ex husband+ her brother when the both cry anybody but HIM! because it joins them together more+ no way is anybody insulting her son + sort of stepson. (1) Au where Giuliano gives Simonetta the crown of beauty at the joust like he did in real life to throw people off his relationship with Fioretta. Simonetta has a character arc outside being pretty+ tragic she's friends with Giuliano and Sandro so she wants to help them keep Fioretta a secret. they develop the tragedy of Fioretta and Giuliano's love they secretly marry. Giuliano still feels awful when Simonetta dies because he blames himself for dragging her into it + still has his character

Development from the second last ep but it's I'm going to be a better man+ husband+ father + live a full life like Simonetta would want him to + get her justice. He learns Fioretta is expecting he's so happy+ he's like it's time to tell my family. And then whelp that very important unavoidable thing at the end of season 2 I don't like to talk about. Opening of season 3 - giulos birth + the show has an actual timeline that makes sense

oh my god you’ve done it! you’ve singlehandedly solved all the problems with giuliano’s character and simonetta’s lack thereof! i would’ve loved this version so much more than what we got!! the only downside of it is that while giulio being born after giuliano’s death would’ve been historically accurate, it also means that he wouldn’t have been able to have an arc in s3 if he’s only an infant for the first few episodes and then like 7 after the timeskip. although i guess if giulio had been maddalena’s age then that might’ve given more screentime to piero and especially the CRIMINALLY underused giovanni, which i wouldn’t have been mad about! but the lack of giulio would’ve been so sad! i’m conflicted

Also just more of both lucretias Sandro Caterina Ippoltia (I hope I spelt that right) carlo + Bianca

i wholeheartedly agree we NEEDED more bianca, i think she was probably the most wasted character of the series esp in s3. i would never complain about more lucrezia tornabuoni and sandro bc i love them, but personally i’m happy with the screentime they got! and same with carlo - maybe this is an unpopular opinion, but i’m fine with carlo just being a secondary character who crops up only occasionally and doesn’t have much of an individual arc, i love him ofc but i didn’t feel like we needed to see any more of him given that he’s not directly involved in the story of florence. i would’ve liked more scenes with him, giovanni, and giulio in rome in the second half of s3 tho, that was a missed opportunity

i adore caterina and ippolita to bits and i would’ve LOVED to see more of them, especially ippolita who was too wonderful to only be in one episode! but on the other hand i can’t really think of ways to give them more screentime without overcrowding things bc (like carlo) neither of them is directly involved in the story of florence. i would’ve so so so loved to see ippolita and lorenzo’s initial meeting happen in s2 or at least have lorenzo reference her since historically they were penpals, but again we just didn’t have time for that bc s2 as it is has the most crowded cast of all 3 seasons i believe, and even as it is there were characters who didn’t get enough screentime!

lucrezia donati i’m torn on because on paper, there’s absolutely no reason she should’ve even been in s3 at all - her function was to be lorenzo’s first love, and once that was served, she no longer had a purpose in the story (her suddenly becoming super religious in s3, while a good way of showing savonarola’s impact, felt kinda shoehorned in there bc we saw no indication of that aspect of her personality in s2, and i feel like they could’ve just used sandro for showing a beloved character falling under savonarola’s sway since historically he did). i’m 99% sure lucrezia wouldn’t have even been in s3 if she hadn’t been played by such a famous actress, which brings me to, on the other hand, alessandra mastronardi is a fantastic actress and made me love the character, and she felt wasted with the minimal screentime she got in both seasons (particularly absurd when she gets top billing in both seasons bc she’s so famous, even over ppl like synnove karlsen and matteo martari whose characters were way more important to the story).

#now i have seen ppl say alessandra should've been clarice since she's a better actress + has better chemistry with daniel #but i disagree with that i feel like that wouldn't be a good fit for the way they wrote clarice #clarice is SUPPOSED to be prim and proper and plain and un-charismatic and alessandra's just too naturally glamorous to pull that off lmao #wait now i sound like i'm insulting synnove but i don't mean to! #like yeah objectively she's not on alessandra's level bc alessandra is a fuckin superstar #but synnove is still a good actress and v pretty just in like a less strikingly glamorous way u know #answered #fairygoddaughterjane

Me, before the leonardo trailer: I don't know I wish they kept going with medici rather than start a show about leonardo Me, after: I WANT IT SO BAD (not that I understood a word of it ciao is the 1 word I know for sure lmao -I tried watching medici season 3 in italian because I couldn't wait for it but didn't understand much of what was happening + I legit thought Bianca was poisoning Lorenzo + was low-key rooting for her because even tho I didn't understand him I knew Lorenzo was being an ass)

ME on the one hand the art plotlines were always the least interesting to me in medici but the leonardo trailer just!! looks so good!! and sufficiently schemey and politics-y despite having art as the focus. most of the dialogue was just classic Dramatic But Vague trailer dialogue, the major takeaways are lots of waxing poetic about art + leo has a forbidden love, is accused of murder, and suffers a betrayal

but oh my god bianca poisoning lorenzo is the s3 alternate ending we need jdfhkg i’m dying can you imagine the drama of that!!! would’ve been a solid Good For Her from me

anyway the first dinner is bianca and guglielmo being supportive right away, also contessina bc she’s thrilled to see the medici-pazzi feud finally buried, giuliano's doing his damnedest to provoke francesco and it’s taking all of francesco’s willpower not to strangle him in front of lorenzo’s entire family, piero’s fussing about pazzi mischief but no one’s listening to him and eventually he tires himself out into a sulky silence, lucrezia’s being unfailingly polite to francesco while mentally plotting how to break him and lorenzo up, lorenzo’s like “did you all try the chicken? i thought the chicken was lovely”, and cosimo’s grilling francesco about current economic affairs and becoming more impressed by the minute when it becomes clear that francesco actually knows what’s what, unlike lorenzo “we’re a bank, how can there be no money” de’ medici jdfkghj then later on lorenzo tries to like. hold francesco’s hand or something and francesco’s like “oh my god lorenzo not in FRONT of everyone, have you no SHAME” and cosimo nods approvingly bc he’s glad this boy has a sense of decorum, unlike SOME members of his family who just go around displaying affection willy-nilly in a most undignified way

Speaking as someone who liked supernatural but got out of it years ago +got dragged back in for the last ep, my advice is to stay away, you're a 100% right in not wanting to know. Like not kidding if the pilot never happened we still would have the same ending from the last ep (15 years of development + the core messages of the show were thrown out the window in the last 2 eps) so you're much better off ignoring the show. Trust me I wish I could instead I cry because my babies deserved better

Also 100% agree with the lorenzo's hair was decent compared to sam's in the finale anon because they either put baby powder in sams hair or gave him some cheap wig + it's so funny lmao I saw a picture of it before the ep + thought it was a satire or a meme lol (me, then watching that very scene in the finale: 👁️👄👁️)

So I watched season 1 of da vincis demons 0 spoilers: Pros: I prefer Tom Bateman's *Giulano (the love story/lack of 1 kinda killed Bradley's Giulano for me because his arc was shaped solely around it) & the way the show contrasted him + Lorenzo worked so well. *also he's sarcastic, dumb of ass + pure of heart + I love him so much. Cons: their Francesco can't even compare to Matteo's. I'ma be honest I ended up watching da vinci's demons for giulano only. Medici remains the superior show overall

i know next to nothing about da vinci’s demons and haven’t really seen it discussed in comparison with medici, so this is v interesting feedback! your findings don’t surprise me because a) it wouldn’t be hard to surpass medici!giuliano jdkfg he’s such a fuckboi but not even in an endearing himbo-y way like lorenzo, just in an infuriating way. but anyway dumb of ass and pure of heart is what i’m all ABOUT so that definitely does sound like a good giuliano!

and b) it would be impossible to surpass medici!francesco i mean what an absolute icon. cultural reset. the real francesco pazzi better be grateful that matteo martari singlehandedly did more for his image than anybody else has done in 500 years or will ever do again.

Did I or did not force my art history teacher do the pazzi chapel with us purely because of the connection to Francesco and Guillermo even though it's not on our course because we only need to know about Brunelleschi's dome because he didn't live to see the pazzi chapel being built?
