I have a few questions, if you dont mind answering. 1: what is your favorite rooftop dress used in the restaged tour? 2: Are there any Christine's that you wish had wigs that were very standard but wish had gotten a color adapted to them? And 3: I heard about Emilie Kouatchou possibly having red tassels on her wishing Gown. Are there any other instances of abnormally colored details in christine costumes? Thank you!!
I only ever saw what Katie Hall wore in the UK leg of the tour. It was the "rosy" UK ones, made of a highly structured pink fabric with metallic/blue/pink decorations. This is how the UK dresses were made c. 2000. The dress was later inherited by Julia Udine and Grace Morgan in the US leg of the tour. I rather like these versions, due to their colours and girly looks, though I find the main fabric a bit busy:
Tumblr media
That said, I like it WAAAAYYYY better than the chintz-y UK dress seen on Kaitlyn Davis and Celia Hottenstein in the US leg of the tour. Since it showed up there, I assume either alt. Olivia Brereton or u/s Leigh Coggins wore it in the UK previously. Its origin is c. 1997 West End, as Myrra Malmberg wore a very similar or the same one during her run. It can look good under the stage lamps, as the fabric becomes less patterned and more shiny. But backstage it's quite... too much. Probably my least favourite version in the tour.
Tumblr media
As a contrast, the one worn by Eva Tavares was quite cool in fabric and silhouette... but slightly drowned-out by the decorations. Quite the opposite of the "chintz" dress.
Tumblr media
My favourite is probably the Vegas dress worn by Katie Travis. I like the paisley-patterned metallic fabric with a hint of green, I like the balanced decorations and I like the overall silhouette. Alas not the best of photos, but:
Tumblr media
A last version I was never able to find photos of in use is this elder US style, with a beaded top fabric and blue rosettas and trims. I only ever saw this backstage photo of it. But Sandra Joseph wore this style on Broadway c. 1999, as did Adrienne McEwan. If it is in the same vein of those, I wanna say that is my favourite featured in the Restaged Tour. Here's McEwan in her dress:
Tumblr media
So a ranked list would be: The two-layered beaded one (last photo), the rosy UK one (photo 1), the Vegas one (photo 4), the kinda busy US one (photo3), and the chintz-y one (photo 2).
Christines who should have a wig adapted to them... Sibylle Glosted in Copenhagen! I have no idea why they fitted her, a natural redhead, with such a dark brown wig. It was a slightly harsh colour on her, and curiously - all other wigs in Copenhagen before 2018 was very light brown in shade. I think she would have benefitted from the earlier shades. Here's the very light brown wig of Agnete Munk Rasmussen as a comparison:
Tumblr media
As for the latter, with curious colours or details appearing in Christine costumes: definitely. For costume fabrics, for surprising trims and appliquées, and for small details added to make the costume pop. The added blue velvet trims on the current mint UK Rooftop cloaks comes to mind:
Tumblr media
The use of gold in many Star Princess bodices, to accenturate the bust and sleeve decorations:
Tumblr media
And also the use of pink in the dressing gowns. A lot of the early versions in the UK, US, Australia and Canada had rosy ribbons, for example, and/or a dash of pink silk ribbons in the sleeves. It's rarely or ever seen nowadays, except maybe the Aussie/World Tour ones. But Samantha Hill was fitted with one early in her Broadway run:
Tumblr media
It was replaced by a newer white one during her run, but it was interesting to see the elder style in use for some time! Last, but not least... What I think was an old Dutch or Belgian skirt in Hamburg had been extended and remodeled. To mimick the brocade originally used they covered a printed cotton in spray-dyed lace. From a distance it looked identical, but if looking closer... you could see sailships featured upside-down. Haha! One of my favourite quirks.
Tumblr media
And now I've reached the 10-photo limit Tumblr put on asks...

Principal Jeremy Bull and marketing director Tess Glasson, both of Alexander &CO, were always interested in purchasing the house next door to their Bondi Junction property, should it ever come up for sale. When it finally did 10 years later, they saw a rare opportunity to buy the property and convert this into a workspace of sorts.
‘We were looking for commercial properties, and we thought we don’t know how this will work, but let’s buy it and build a house “thing” that we can use to show clients through, and provide a working from home HQ/showpiece,’ says Jeremy.
That was the initial plan, but with Covid normalising more unorthodox working arrangements, Tess and Jeremy decided to make this their team’s permanent business headquarters.
‘It’s a house, it’s a residential showcase, and a working from home HQ. Broadly our workforce moves in and out, works from home, and comes in as they need to,’ explains Jeremy.
The space is also used for industry events, and occasionally for entertaining out of hours by Jeremy, Tess, and their four children who spill over from their house next door!
Works commenced on Alexander House in February 2020, which saw the previous house on site replaced with a new four-storey interior behind the original facade.
The floor plan now contains an open-plan with banquette seating to accommodate the practice’s team of 24; a voluminous basement area with workstations and materials; breakout spaces for meetings and quiet work; and three bathrooms. There’s also additional ‘wellness’ amenities, such as a steam room, outdoor shower, ice bath and pool.
As principal architect of the project, Jeremy’s vision was for a ‘safe space for reflection, experimentation and to nurture the creative spirit.’ This concept is reflected in the interiors, which incorporate a number of prototypes, reimagined works from previous projects, bespoke pieces created in collaborations with local craftspeople; and never-before-seen material applications.
A small sample of these include a series of outdoor furniture made in conjunction with Re. Studio Collective using recycled building waste from the original building and a rammed earth technique; the first ever use of Lutyens Bricks from Natural Brick Co; custom furniture by Hugh McCarthy and Athol Wright of CDF Studio; and lighting pendants made in collaboration with Shaun Dudley of The Lighting Guild, including a seven metre long pendant that connects all four levels.
‘The house is sort of a random menagerie of things we’ve always wanted to own for ourselves,’ says Jeremy.
Among the various influences referenced throughout are old chapels and churches, with their tonal palettes, double-height volumes, and limestone and sandstone walls that appear to erode away over time. The monolithic pink concrete table by Concrete Bespoke (which weighs 500kg and was craned in to the space) is also similar in form to an altar.
‘Although falling under one story or narrative, each of the rooms is quite specifically different in terms of techniques, materials and details,’ Jeremy says.
Sustainability was another key consideration, resulting in two underground tanks with a total water storage of 22,000 litres; a solar system that generates up to 45kWh of power daily; a Tesla Powerwall battery; and two underground Subpod worm farms processing up to 30 litres of food waste weekly.
Overall, the biggest ambition of this project lies in its deliberate ambiguity. Not simply a gorgeous project, Alexander House is an architectural showcase – a purpose-built live-work set up aiming to challenge preconceptions of home, family, and work.

10 colourful boutique hotels to brighten up your day
Colour psychology studies have long discussed the effects of warmer, brighter colours on increasing positivity, productivity and creativity, while soothing shades of blue and green can induce a calmer state of mind. Join us on a multi-coloured journey around the world in ten vibrant visits to these aesthetically pleasing places.
Palm Suite, Rome – Italy
Tumblr media
A riot of tropical colours and exotic patterns, these eclectic Roman residences are moments from the Eternal City’s ‘big five’: Capitoline Hill, the Forum, the Pantheon, the Colosseum and Basilica of Saint Peter in Chains. Housed within a grand 18th-century building, each of the 12 suites at Palm Suite has its own whimsical style – a statue of a tiger in one, a golden palm-shaped lamp in another. This meticulously mismatched palette is made to be as memorable as the Forum views.
Halcyon House, Cabarita Beach – Australia
Tumblr media
Cornflower blue meets pastel pinks and soft greens, a patchwork of prints and an assortment of frames alongside hatstands and fabric headboards, seaside touches of shell trinket dishes and marine life illustrations. Not to mention the nautical blue and white striped loungers lining the picture-perfect pool. It’s easy to see why Halcyon House was our Most Liked Hotel of 2020 – ‘Instagrammable’ is an understatement, thanks to interiors by designer Anna Spiro.
Las Alamandas Resort, Costalegre – Mexico
Tumblr media
Powder pink parasols provide shade along a private, white sandy beach, while fuchsia flowers sit beneath peachy walls and popping turquoise windows. Every colourful corner of Las Alamandas Resort is beautifully decorated with Mexican fabrics and rattan sofas in canary yellow that make a bold statement against white ceramic floors. Mexican hand-painted folk art is highlighted throughout.
Hôtel Lou Pinet, Saint-Tropez – France
Tumblr media
This glamorous haven away from the glitzy Côte d’Azur crowds is packed with contemporary art and graphic prints, hand-picked by owners Leslie and Kimberley from their parents’ extensive art collection, alongside works from up-and-coming artisans. Designed by Charles Zana to recreate the glory days of the French Riviera, the artistically inspired aesthetic of Hôtel Lou Pinet is vibrant yet vintage, from the light-filled suites to the frescoes on the walls of the trendy Beefbar restaurant.
La Maison Bleue, El Gouna – Egypt
Tumblr media
The clue is in the name at this blue-washed Mediterranean-style mansion. Inspired inside and out by Middle Eastern, North African, and European art and architecture, La Maison Bleue‘s Venetian-style façade and opulent marble hallways make an immediate impression. Take a leisurely dip in the blue lagoon, before watching the Egyptian sun dye the sky a dusky pink (to match the suites) behind the distant Red Sea mountains.
Byblos Art Hotel Villa Amistà, Verona – Italy
Tumblr media
A statement art hotel combining contemporary works by world-famous artists with the grandeur of a 16th-century Venetian villa, Byblos Art Hotel Villa Amistà has been given an ultra-modern makeover by architect and designer Alessandro Mendini. Each one of the 59 rooms is individually decorated and masterfully styled with the use of vividly coloured fabrics and furnishings as well as works by Marc Quinn, Damien Hurst, Anish Kapoor and Vanessa Beecroft.
Casas Del XVI, Santa Domingo – Dominican Republic
Tumblr media
A treasure trove of 16th-century houses in Santo Domingo’s colonial zone, Casas Del XVI feature local works of art, ancient Dominican artefacts and beautifully carved wood furniture. Maintaining the houses’ original architecture, each one is individually decorated to reflect the area’s historical and cultural significance. All of the properties have a central courtyard with zesty walls, perfect for an evening aperitif or outdoor dining.
Ovolo The Valley Brisbane, Queensland – Australia
Tumblr media
A dash of urban cool here, a touch of rock and roll there (thanks to owner Girish Jhunjhnuwala‘s love of the 1980s music legends), Ovolo The Valley Brisbane is located in an ultra-hip entertainment district – and has the interiors to match. Step inside, and you’re met with energetic contemporary design fused with understated luxury. Think plush velvet, pops of colour, loud wallpaper, and one-of-a-kind artwork.
Hôtel du Petit Moulin, Paris – France
Tumblr media
An historic 17th-century building with an original baker’s shopfront, Hôtel du Petit Moulin is a truly unique residence with flamboyant interiors designed by Christian Lacroix. From brightly coloured 1960s furniture in the bar, and plush textiles, leather sofas and highly decorative walls in the lounge to green corridors with polka-dot carpeting that lead to Baroque, Rococo and Couture designed rooms, it is a fascinating journey through the artistic expertise of Lacroix.
Galleria VIK Milano, Milan – Italy
Tumblr media
Housed within Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, Italy’s oldest active shopping centre, the Vik family have established a Milanese home-from-home inspired by the architecture of the 19th-century arcade and the city’s world-renowned design scene. Reflecting the art and soul of Milan, Galleria VIK Milano is part hotel, part modern art gallery. Clearly unafraid of colour, bold murals, striking sculptures, and a vibrant palette paint a vivid picture, though no two rooms are the same – each bearing the hallmark of a renowned artist, from Giuseppe Gonella and Pino Pinelli, to Felipe Cardena and Shinya Sakurai.
