As a kid I used to worry that because decongestants work by sort of drying?? the mucus to make it smaller, this meant that there were layers of dried mucus building up in my sinuses from every cold I’d ever had, too dry to get out and making every subsequent cold worse. This was, in retrospect, a pretty logical line of reasoning for a kid with massive allergies, regular sinus infections, regular head colds, and massively chronically infected adnoids and tonsils. Dear god I literally just lived like this at all times! There was never ever not-this except for the many and regular times it was worse than this! I remember my mother asking me how I stood it once and not having a response like - I wouldn’t stand it if I could choose not to, I’m not being strong or brave here or anything, it’s just happening to me and I can’t make it stop.

Anyway I’m trying to decide whether to take a decongestant today because maybe it will help clear out the lingering gunge but - what if it dries it out and makes it harder to get rid of?
